The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), has dissolved the ZESCO Board.

IDC Acting Chief Executive officer Matero Kaluba signed the letters of dissolution of the Board of the state power utility.

The ZESCO Board included Board Chairperson Dillion Chipungu, Energy Permanent Secretary Brig. General Emeldah Chola, Israel Phiri, Felicitas Kabwe Chibamba and Dr Mbita Chitundya Chitala.

Others were Cecilia Banda and lawyer George Mpundu Kanja. The Board was appointed by former Minister of Energy Dora Siliya in December 2015.

    • Is Emmanuel Mwamba the editor in-chief of Lusaka times? There are more pictures of Mwamba on LT compared to Mmembe in The Post.

  1. Iam not surprised really that ba Dollar Siliya could be left on the loose to appoint or create a board of directors for such an institution like Zescoro. Guys, unless we consult widely l am telling you, we are in deep trouble.

  2. All board members from North east Zambia, no wonder muchinga, luapula, nothern, eastern provinces have been blacked out from Saturday. They thought they were f##king the south westerns, kanshi they are f@@king themselves.

  3. One God, two Zambias, don’t tell me people from Southwest Zambia don’t deserve to be on that board, look at the wako ni wako mentality of dora shiliti has caused in the north east, no power for five days, bang right in your face.

  4. But when you are appointed you will be serving the interests of HH which happen to be a variance with those of the people of Zambia. So tiza chita bwani baasa? The ball is in your court.

  5. The IDC is proving to be a vehicle of corruption, first Cabinet through the then Minister of Energy Hon Dora Siliya appoint a Zesco Board, then comes an Acting CEO of IDC Mateyo Kaluba who is a Director at Ministry of Commerce and former aide of Felix Mutati comes and dissolves a board appointed by Cabinet, something is terribly wrong with the operations of Government. Worse still that the board of the IDC includes the likes of Robinson Zulu, Lawrence Sikutwa, David Kombe, Geofrey Sakulanda, Isaac Ngoma, Sylvia Banda and Father Leonard Chiti. Isn’t this really a State Capture similar to the Guptas in South Africa. Zambians work up your country’s economy is in danger!!!!

  6. You doubt me? You don’t have to look far for proof. Just look at your celebrating loss of power supplies to four and half provinces.

    • One celebrates when the tribal¡sts feel and experience the folly of their tr¡bal voting. There’s no cure for stoopidity.

  7. dont make this about tribe. listen we are trying to stop this tribal talk so it starts here, don’t make everything about tribe. we are the new supposedly enlightened generation so don’t make everything about tribe.
i wish on this forum we could speak about ideas that take forward instead of abusing our freedom of speech. remember people, freedom of speech despite being a right, if abused can be taken from you.
i wish to find out what incompetencies are being referred to when zesco is mentioned. lets break it down one by one so we can hear your concerns. i often hear this blanket statement being made but i wish to know specifics.

    • True but lets not bury our heads in the sand. This cancer has destroyed Zambia almost irreversibly unless we root it out.

    • It’s funny how tribe is everything when it comes to decision making like voting but faced with failure the same tr;balists seek help from the very people they ignored and taunted initially. You can have your cake and eat it. Where were you when Chimbwili said that PF had the right to stuff Zesco and other parastatals with their own relatives and cadres? Enjoy the incompetence of the PF Zesco.

  8. How can we let a minster be hand picking board members of such an institution ..no wonder there are no checks and balances…a corrupt minister simply hires his pals and cadres who are hungry for siting allowances.

  9. Comment:From the sources in Zesco is that the problem we lost the line that supply power to north and east is due to none performance in Zesco. People are not working now, the lines are not patrolled. If this continues like this we shall be loosing one tower after another if lines towers are not checked or inspected time and time again the whole system will be collapsing one after another. The problem is not the board. Give money to the line inspectors.

  10. Thank God the 3 days’ power failure happens to be in the PF zone of Muchinga, Luapula and Northern. Had it been in the opposition arena, the govt would have been accused of blacking out its perceived adversaries. Zikomo.

    • Thank God for that. Powercuts should only be in those areas because they know why the PF Govt and PF Zesco are so incompetent.

    • And had it been in southrn or western where actually this happens normally, the gvt would not have taken the step it has taken.

  11. Politics and tribalism will chase me from LT. Why do we to talk about these, two? Who’s HH and who’s ECL? They are just people like you and me so we shouldn’t let them divide us. Ask yourself why they covet State House to such extremity that they traverse the entire country without rest? Is it serve you? No a big NO

    • Isn’t it funny how divisions are noticed when victims of tribalism complain? But when the real tribalists are giving out jobs and contracts to their tribesmen, it is jubilation. The victims of tribalism have nowhere to complain but on blogsites and social media.

    • Buck, I neither a victim nor a perpetrator of tribalism. But it bothers me when my tonga friends look at me with suspicion.

    • Buck, I neither a victim nor a perpetrator of tribalism. But it bothers me when my tonga friends look at me with suspicion.

    • @Ndanje you are a confused character. HH is for Zambia what your ECL is not. HH has done nothing wrong to petition the Presidential election results. In fact he has helped the nation to highlight the importance of the rule of law and to abide by it. In a true democracy there has to be checks and balances to the ruling government so they stay on course to deliver the much needed public services to the Zambian people. So get a life my friend and stop whinning. We are all Zambians interested in fairness for all and hatred for none.

  12. Only in Zambia can you find a Director of Planning, in this case Ministry of Commerce’s Mr. Mateyo Kaluba being made Acting CEO of such a huge parastatal like IDC. With all due respect Mr. Mateyo Kaluba has been a civil servant all his career, has been a board member for Mukuba Hotel and Zambia International Trade Fair, both of which are huge failures???How can such a person be expected to turn around other parastatals under IDC including ZESCO, ZSIC, Zambia Railways. IDC is a failed project which will surely cost this country as there is clearly no leadership to spearhead the much needed industrial development and job creation. Furthermore if what I ve heard is true about the composition of the Board members, then God help us all. Didn’t Robinson Zulu at one time want to sell his land…

    • IDC is a limited company set up by the then Min of Finance Chikwanda as a way to streamline the 34 parastatals. However this hasn’t worked as most are heavily in the red! The government don’t have the money, the bailout would not mitigate the bleeding. Finally its time they brought in skilled professionals with expertise to run such entities. Better still get private sector involvement. Boma in business has failed and if they are not careful all these entities will be out of business in less than 5 years.

  13. The tribal bigotry that prevails in Zambia stinks, just how could the board of one of the biggest utility companies in the country all be derived from only two provinces of Zambia out of a total of ten! And look at the majority of these appointees, they lack knowledge or education in energy, so one is given to wonder what criteria besides tribe was used to saturate ZESCO with such a humongous pile of dead wood. Well, and its Dora, a girl born long after independence who has the guts to exihibit such vile bigotry in her judgement. They then wonder why Lozis, Bantu Botatwe, Lunda’s and Kaondes want to secede from this rotten country of theirs. Muzasala mweka mweka soon.

  14. Some tribes feel very insecure ayi. When they see a name from their area, thy feel owning owning. What more if it were them. Thank God the power outage affected the PF strongholds. I personally feel very un happy to hear this although it is again very painful. Like someone is misleading another

    • I agree that thank God the powercuts were where they were. Let those people feel the pain of their tribal allegiances. Why vote for your tribe even if they are a bunch of thieves and dunderheads?

  15. IDC is really a classic State Capture story similar if not worse than Zuma’s State Capture with the Guptas. How possible is it that an institution of such magnitude can have board members who include Meanwood’s Robinson Zulu, Madison’s Lawrence Sikutwa, David Kombe, Isaac Ngoma, Geofrey Sakulanda, Sylvia Banda of Sylva catering. Honestly are these the people our Government has confidence will turn around its 34 parastatals, I doubt it. These people are there to aid Government Ministers in looting the 34 parastatals. What track record does Robinson Zulu have apart from being a crook who has even looted old pensioners who bought plots at meanwood. Is the president the board chair of IDC with these characters, nooooo

    • Unfortunately some people admire, worship even, crooks for being so crooked. That’s how PF operates. If you expect PF to show meritocracy, forget it. They run a kleptocracy that is grinding Zambia into utter poverty.

  16. People please educate me, as far as I know the President chairs cabinet meetings which this year approved the appointment of the Zesco board by Minister dora. the president also chairs the idc board which has dissolved the zesco board. so as far as I can see the chair of cabinet which approved the board and the chair of idc which dissolves the board is the same. Is this really good corporate governance or am missing something and isn’t this the same policy inconsistencies that PF or mutati have been saying they want to do away with. How can the President who chairs both preside over the appointment in one organ and then preside over dissolution in another organ within the same year. This is a circus people

  17. DUNUNA REVERSE: No electricity in Northern, Muchinga, Part of Central, Luapula Very good for dissolving the Zesco Board these people have eaten enough. Let others also eat. Please be content with what you have Hebrews 13 v 5 – 6. How many things do you want to have. Ni DUNUNA REVERSE.

  18. UPND is tribal. If IDC board was under UPND Government, all members would have been tonga, Lozi and from northwest but PF is very good they had a well balanced board withbembas and easterners ONLY. . . hahahahahahahahakikikikikiki

  19. Please Mr watchman more sarcasm, if it run by bembas and Easterners only it ain’t tribal, when lozis, tongas, kaondes, lundas, luvales, solis, lenjes, salas, ilas, lalas etc come together they are tribal.

Ask any five year old this question
    What is zesco?
You will be amazed with the answers.

Inept, incompetent, worthless, useless, chakuti chanyoko na wiso.

Today is the sixth day no power in luapula, muchinga, nothern and Eastern, boy these guys are so docile, no questions asked they are just smiling and waving like the penguins of Madagascar.

  20. I was wondering how on earth incompetent and uneducated failed businessmen like Dillion Chipungu ended up being appointed to Zesco board in the first place. There are lots of competent Zambians who were denied an opportunity through nepotism
