President Edgar Lungu’s Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda said that Felix Mutati the was the most competent and qualified person to fill the post of Minister of Finance because he understands and shares the vision President Lungu has.
Speaking when he featured on a ZNBC TV program Sunday Interview, to address the numerous issues in public domain, Mr Chanda said the President has appointed a competent and qualified Minister of Finance who understands and shares into the overall vision of the President.
He explained that the issues of both Micro and Macro economic challenges are at the heart of the President and his Minister of Felix Mutati.
He added that the President will not keep any Cabinet Ministers who will not perform their duties.
“The President will not keep any Cabinet Ministers who will wake up in the morning, go to the office and do nothing. We are with the Minister of Health Dr Chilufya on a trip to Tanzania but even while there, he is deeply concerned about the health situation in the country because of the onset of rains. That is the spirit the President wants and not excuses from Ministers,” he said.
He also said the President means business when it comes to the pronouncement of tightening belts.
“The President is serious on tightening our belts and there will be no wastage at any point, and our Ministers have equally been warned against wastage. The President wants even Permanent Secretaries to know this to the core, it’s not always that Ministers should travel, even the PS can travel on behalf of the ministry.
“Time will come when the Vice President will travel on behalf of the President. Right now the President is making strategic trips for strategic reasons I can’t mention here. But we will see the benefits soon, there is no need for the President to maintain a hostile relationship with his counterparts just because of tightening our belts, that has far reaching consequences that end up hurting our trade balance,” he said.
Yes the IMF demanded they keep the PF bemba thieves away from this key position…imagine having a PF bemba thieve and lungu a fraudstar convict who we are told can not be sued???

I agree with Amos there is no person better than Felix in PF to run MoF. But if Edward had looked outside this clique of incompetents he would have found a much better person than the sweet talking Felix.

amos makes it seem like lungu has the intellect to oversee every mechanism of our country,i dont argue with the capabilities of mutati , but saying he was appointed because lungu knows whats best for our economy is total slander,he has no clue on what’s best because if he did our country wouldnt be in financial ruin it is in,but i understand amos’s job which is polishing the imagine of his boss and he is doing it so well i feel sorry for him because when the fallout ignites he will be at the helm of explaination he should probable learn from chimba and chella before its too late.
The guy has just been appointed Finance Minister. He has no experience or track record in that position and some body just decides to open his mouth and says the new Finance Minister is competent. Even if opening of the mouth is free, shouldn’t there be any logic behind it. I am not against anybody but common sense should prevail
Felix Mutati is a very dull minister, thats why he’s always running away from MoF HQs. If he’s not out of the country, he’s opening seminars & workshops in L/stone, siavonga especially that he loves appearing on DeadNBC.
Magande is the correct man for the job especially with the current economic meltdown.
1. Fiscal & economic policy – No control of overexpenditure from president to entire govt.
2. Treasury – Reserves are at lowest point. Reserves are being used to bolster Kwacha which is more than its real value
3. Management of public funds – auditors report showed how undisciplined Govt are on expenditure
4. Monetary Policy – Kwacha value is more than it’s real value

I am so tired of these eulogies for Magande that I will say this once: Magande is the crap Finance Minister who raised PAYE taxes so high and he claimed it was for one year only until HIPC was achieved. That was in 2001. Magande has condemned high earning Zambians to the robbery at 37.5% that PF continues with. Magande is a socialist. What we need is some type of cleaned-up Penza radical, if that’s possible.

Felix Mutati is all talk and no action. Appointing Felix Mutati as Finance Minister is an action the President will leave to regret sooner than later. First of all, Mutati does not understand the PF’s vision nor the President’s vision and that’s why when one analyses the President’s speech to Parliament and the Budget speech, you will notice fundamental differences in policy pronouncemnet. Secondly, Mutati is in PF purely at RB’s machinations and ofcourse to further his Presidential ambitions. If one looks at Mutati’s history in Government or anywhere else there is no trace of successfully executing any policy, project or programme. Ba Mutati pakanwa epo bachenjela ubufi. Mutati is already making decisions behind the President’s back, watch the space.
The discrepancies and inconsistencies of Mutati are exactly as Lungu planned. Lungu is a drunkard but he is not an idyot. Remember he has a law degree but he stole from a client and lived in Chawama while his peers clambered to be in Kabulonga. Lungu’s story is just beginning and Mutati is a bit player in it.
Am not comfortable Felix is more on theory we needed a practical one to take up this. We have many qualified but cant just come out to be insulted by anyone because they are able to open and close their unclean kachasu mouths. Waiting

If Mutati is a think tank then I am God! Zambia is in trouble.
Mutati is a man of very modest mental capability and capacity. He fits very well with Lungu who runs the country by stealth disguised as humility. The two of them are a snake and a chameleon – I cannot just decide which one is which, but I know that one will be devoured before the show is over.
Maybe he should ask Dora to tighten her belt too, the girl’s chilufumo looks like Chagwa knocked her up or she has post malnutrition.
