FAZ’s 2016 Barclays Cup profit cheers Barclays Bank

Barclays Bank is pleased that FAZ made a profit from gate takings during this year’s Barclays Cup final played on November 26 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Barclays Bank’s head marketing and corporate relations Mato Shimabale said the tournament sponsors were delighted to have helped stage a successful tournament.

“We are also pleased that FAZ made a profit of K110, 000 from the gate takings of the Cup Final as reported in the media. Barclays Bank Zambia Plc met the expenses of hosting the match taking away the cost burden from FAZ,” Shimabale said.

“In fact, for all the nine matches played in the Barclays Cup, the gate takings were for the collection of FAZ while expenses were met by Barclays.

“This is our way of supporting the number one sport in the Country.”

Meanwhile, Zesco took home K300,000 for lifting an unprecedented fifth Barclays Cup title after beating Zanaco 1-0.

Runners-up Zanaco collected K150,000 while Zesco trainer Tenant Chembo won K10,000 for the coach of the tournament award.

Zanaco winger Charles Zulu was the player of the tournament and won K5,000.

“And all the Man of the Match winners in all the 9 games played won K1, 000 each,” Shimabale said.

“Barclays will review the prize money in the respective categories for next year as we aim to make the tournament even bigger and better.”

  1. This is Good News..unlike in the past when Galu and his bandits would chew everything including the table the money was on!!

  2. k300 000 is too little ba barclays bank, for the cup winners not to mention for the runners up! look at the telcom cup, nedbank cup and mtn 8, in S.A. there is big money. make it K500 000, at least, although zambia’s economy is small.
