Part of the Intensive Care Unit at Kabwe General Hospital has been gutted and property worth thousands of Kwacha has been destroyed in the inferno.
The fire which started between 22 hours and 23 hours last night was quenched by the fire brigade before it could spread to other parts of the facility.
Central Province Police Commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi says preliminary investigations indicate that the inferno was caused by a heater which was found connected to an electrical plug.
The country has experienced a spart of fires which includes the Lusaka City Market fire.
Many of the fires have been linked to sabotage.
This caused President Lungu to proclaim the threatened state of public emergency according to article 31 of the Constitution of Zambia.
