Share

Lusaka Executive Mayor, Wilson Kalumba and Vodafone Zambia Retail Operations Head, Muleya Choopa interact.

Lusaka Mayor Wilson Kalumba has disclosed that the city council has procured equipment to measure the level of noise and counter noise pollution.

Mr Kalumba said Lusaka faces many challenges including beer drinking particularly drink and drive, underage drinking, noise pollution from bars and churches, bars operating outside permitted hours.

He was speaking on Tuesday during a consultative meeting between Lusaka City Council and bar operators, beer manufacturers and the Zambia Police Service.

The meeting was held to remind bar owners on their legal obligations and to also hear concerns from bar owners.

Mr Kalumba said the meeting was very interactive and many suggestions were made concerning measures to address proliferation of bars, protect businesses, protect jobs, counter underage drinking by demanding IDs.

“As Mayor of Lusaka I informed the meeting that my office has sourced USD 100,000 which will be used to buy breathalysers for traffic officers, other equipment and technical support. We need to make it clear to the residents that officers will be adequately equipped and the tools will act as a check on beer drinkers to ensure they moderate drinking,” Mr Kalumba said.

    • Unnecessary expenditure, Africans by nature are party beings, they thrive on noise, without the noisy dandy crazy campaign songs i wonder what campaign message they would have relayed to the masses. That money would have been well spent on garbage clearing and town center face lift.

    • Kwena MWe the mosques pollute all of us with noise. Can’t they transfer this call to prayer to cellphones? This is the 21st century mwebantu

  1. not need to do that, we need to control our tempers and stick to one wife or husband like myself, put the house in order not to conquer the outside world.

  2. The biggest noise maker on this platform is Jay Jay. I hope these new machines will be able to detect and manage his noise

Where have you sourced the money? What other equipment? What kind of technical support?
Why can’t IG buy simple breathalyzers for his officers ..he is happy to procure machine guns and riot trucks

    • Understood, BUT we brought this on ourselves due to corruption. When LEVY refused certain mosques to be built but RUPHIA BANDA WITH HIS CORRUPTION CAME AND ALLOWED THEM TO BUILD EVEN MORE!! Their aim is to make that noise from all corners of the city so that the whole city at certain hours is engulfed in their noise!!

    • If they don’t, God will turn the stones to praise him. Get a life and contribute positively. The target should be on bars instead of religious houses.

  4. A call to prayer is not noise….
You are all being blessed when the call to prayer reaches ones ears….
    Dont be ignorant!

  5. The council has bought breathalysers for traffic officers?? how? dont the council have their own police? dont the police have their own budget and expenditure lines? Sounds like a procurement issue or hes just gaffing around as usual.

  6. They should use some of these equipment for the Kabwata Uncle T’s bar. The most annoying and absurdly rowdy place. Full of criminals and drunk senseless people putting our health and lives in danger! Do something, twa papataa
