Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom His Excellency Mr. Muyeba Chikonde has appealed to the authorities in the United Kingdom to bring to book a masked gang of boys who ambushed and stabbed to death a 16-year-old promising footballer Joshua Bwalya.

And officers from the Mission on Sunday visited Joshua’s funeral house in Barking Essex to pay their respects.

In an interview at the funeral house, Joshua’s Mother Mrs. Queenie Bwalya said Joshua was a victim of a “crazy postcode war” and had been targeted by a gang from a rival Barking estate.

She narrated to First Secretary Consular Mr. Portipher Sakala and Frist Secretary Administration and Political Mrs. Millicia Nkoma Mutale that Joshua was stabbed six times in the back and libs and his Lungs were punctured.

“Joshua’s death is the most painful experience. The loss of a child is a grief that lasts a lifetime. My son and his two of his friends were “ambushed” by a group of youths on bicycles who were wearing masks as they were going home from a party. The three were chased into a 24-hour-supermarket in Ripple Road at about 1am, then again into the street, where Joshua was stabbed. Passers-by fought to save him but he died at the scene. His two friends, who banged on doors of nearby homes to ask for help, were also stabbed but they survived. My prayer is that the police should find these people and arrest them,” she said.

Mrs. Bwalya said Joshua’s body will only be released to the family for burial in four to eight weeks after the police conclude the investigations.

She said Joshua played football for Barking FC’s youth team and had just finished his GCSEs (secondary school) and he dreamed of playing central midfield for Chelsea Football Club.

And High Commissioner Chikonde has extended deepest condolences to the Bwalya family on the untimely death their son Joshua.

The High Commissioner in a message of condolences to the Bwalya family said he had learnt with a deep sense of sorrow and sadness of the tragic death of Joshua saying the Zambia High Commission in London and the Zambian Community mourn with the Bwalyas.

“On behalf of all Zambians in the United Kingdom and indeed on my own behalf, allow me to extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” he said.

    • Yawn….

May I ask why people mourn someone they don’t even know.

Ofcourse I’m sorry the family has lost a loved one and wish God find strength to pull them through this hard time and RIP Joshua.

But he is the thing that doesn’t sit well with me . You start going to funeral houses and you never met the late at all – why ?

He didn’t know you for heavens sake. Who are you to steal the spotlight off an unfortunate event.

Stay home watch tv and be. Save your tears you didn’t know him!

      Infuriates me to the core.

      Thanks

    • Nothing cruel and I have read this story and I’m sure they will get the culprit and charge them with murder.

He was a promising young boy and I’m so sorry for the family.

That’s the point here. Why rush to funeral house for solidarity when you don’t know the person.

Leave the family to mourn their loved one in silence.

Is that too much to ask for ?

      Thanks

    • A few safety tips for all young people ( and older ones too) who go to live in these foreign countries, be it Europe, America or Asia. Avoid parties where you have to WALK home after the party–especially late at night. If you have to walk, walk in a group as there’s safety in numbers. Avoid late night clubs, bars, casinos, etc, if you can. Avoid challenging or provoking the locals, even if they started it. Simply walk away. Usually trouble with the locals starts when you try to pick up their women in a bar or nightclub. Also be very careful where you hang out, or who you hang out with. Lastly avoid extremely racist countries. Above all, take care of yourself. Safety kulisunga wemwine. My condolences to this young man’s family.

  1. Mushota comments here to seek attention which she has mostly lacked almost all her life. She adores being the center of a debate and many of you divert your attention from the news items to her. That’s what she is here for. Its a behavioural condition that many are not aware of. They do or say anything to get attention. Sometime in life she was probably very depressed. I could go on, but, this I think is enough for now.

  2. The late Bwalya (adolescent) is a victim of white supremacy, or deviant youths who belong to a rotten subculture of ill-educated off-springs of criminal parents. The core issue here is to identify the purpose of the concept of ‘rival’ which was mentioned by the victim’s family. That said, rivalry in this particular instance comes into play due to the lack of the will to peacefully settle differences in opinions on the part of the attackers. Thus, the author indicated that the off-springs are criminal gangs and, their parents have a deviant background and they are in conflict with the UK laws. Having said that, it is suffice to conjuncture that criminality is passed from one generation to another generation within such familial settings. Such developments culminated into the death…
