Zambia gave King Mswati Land in 2009- Chief Mujimanzovu

A Traditional Leader in North Western Province is worried at the kind of politics which are being advanced by politicians through unnecessary debates of issues such as President Edgar Lungu receiving land from Eswatini.

Chief Mujimanzovu of the Kaonde Speaking people of Mushindamo District in North Western Province said Zambia also gave King Mswati Land in Solwezi as an individual and not the People of Swaziland.

According to the Zambia Daily Mail Newspaper of July 21, 2009, during his state visit under Fourth Republican President Rupiah Banda, Chiefs in North Western Province through Chief Mujimanzovu gave King Mswati land which he promised to develop.

“King Mswati was given land by me with a view of one cementing the relationship which exists between Zambia and Mswati and the mere fact that we gave him land did not mean we will give him resources to develop the land”. Chief Mujimanzovu explained.

The Traditional Leader recalls King Mswati promising to send a delegation from Swaziland to come and see what sort of development can be put up and also look at economic activities the two countries can embark on.

“If he so wishes to develop the land, I think we would have no problems ourselves to it because we offered it and it is up to him on how he develops it”, he said.

The Traditional Leader said the giving of land to an individual is out of interest expressed by that particular person and King Mswati is simply reciprocating the gesture extended to him in 2009.

Chief Mujimanzovu further said King Mswati promised to reciprocating the gesture when President Banda visited that country and this has been done through giving land to President Lungu.

He said Zambia is witnessing politics that will not bring sanity to the country or continue to promote peace and unity from the current crop of politicians and this is a sad situation that must be reversed.
Chief Mujimanzovu becames the third Traditional Leader in the country apart from Chief Chamuka of the Lenje Speaking People of Kabwe in Central Province and Chief Chikanta of the Tonga Speaking people of Kalomo District in Southern Province to give counsel on insuance of land to President Lungu by King Mswati.

    • If Mswati has not developed the land which he might have not developed it so it should be reposed and offered to a deserving ZAMBIAN. These politicians think they are the elite and they can get whatever they want. NO WAY!

    • He thinks he is putting a defense for this when he is here referring to RB with his Nigerian oil connection and Mpundu Trust …really laughable

    • But this is very different, the land in question was not given by King Mswati, but a private country. Nonetheless, the law in this country requires one to declare such gifts.

    • Ignirance is a terrible disease. Chief Mujimansovu, with all due respect should understand that King Mswati is an absolute ruler of Eswatini. He will rule for Life and is not accountable to the people of eSwatini. The people of eSwatini are his subjects and are the ones accountable to their King. In fact Mswati is the only absolute ruler in Africa.
Edgar Lungu on the other hand is a commoner. He is a servant of the Zambian people and employed to manage the affairs of the country for a short period and is answerable and accountable for his actions to the Zambian people. Zambians are not subjects of Edgar Lungu. He was a nobody just a short while ago and will revert to that status upon completion of his term save for the privileges Zambians will bestow on him and which privileges can be…

    • The case here is totally different Mwe Mfumu, a private company which has been awarded tenders to construct roads in Zambia gave Edgar Lungu land.

    • With all due respect, Chief Mujimanzovu doesn’t know what he is talking about. The Kingdom of eSwatini is an absolute monarchy, ruled by a King. The Constitution of eSwatin does not bar the King from accepting gifts from anyone. Zambia is not a monarchy. Zambia is a democratic republic, whose head of State is elected by the people of Zambia. So there lies the difference. Lungu is not a King. He’s an elected official, bound by the Zambian Constitution. So if the Zambian Constitution says he cannot accept gifts to benefit himself while in office, he should follow that, because he is not above the law. Unless Chief Mujimanzovu wants Zambia to become an absolute monarchy, with Lungu as it’s first King. Is that what he wants? We the Zambian people reject that.

    • I am highly disappointed by some Chiefs’ myopic statements. The argument is when a Head of State of Zambia is given anything as a gift and that gift costs .more than $1000-00, the gift must be declared to the Nation because its a national gift! These rules stated in writing. What would these chiefs do if their subjects refused to follo their written I orders? Would they be chiefs? I am disappointed with these Zambian Chiefs. The short of all this, is that, the land in question is for Zambians and not for President Lungu!

    • Chief, with all due respect you don’t seem to comprehend what is being debated on this issue.
      1. The ‘gift’ of land in a foreign country, together with the purported intention to develop it at close to $4m is morally unjustified for the Zambian head of state
      2. It is highly irregular that a private company benefitting from the Zambian Govt contracts is involved in the President’s “private” activities
      3. The 2009 issue you are referring to, is not related in any way to the current one.
      4. Please put your subject’s interests first, by supporting development in your area rather supporting Lungu, who it appears, is trying to get money out of Zambia, to develop land in a foreign country

    • The chief must always quote Swaziland’s law regarding receiving of gifts. The chief should realise that our laws are totally different from the laws of the kingdom of Swaziland.

    • There’s a difference BA MFUMU! jerry is a president (in small letters) and MSWATI is NKOSI! Just like you as a BA MFUMU, if you go anywhere in the world and you’re given land for free, we’ll not complain.

  2. OUR CONSTITUTION SHOULD BAR SUCH GIFTS AS THEY CAN BE ABUSED FOR SELF-AGGRANDISEMENT.
ECL SHOUL RETURN THE LAND HE WAS GIVEN IN SWAZILAND AND APOLOGISE TO THE NATION AND THAT WILL BE THE END OF THIS SAGA.
HH SHOULD ALSO TELL US HOW MANY MANSIONS HE HAS BUILT IN SOUTH AFRICA AND HOW MUCH HE HAS STASHED AWAY IN PARADISE ISLANDS

    • Why should HH do that? Is HH a public servant on public payroll like Lungu? Man they really make them in Zambia… you started well until you brought in your nemesis HH.

  3. Its a shame and scary when you have a Chief talking like this, we Africans do not know how priceless land is no wonder the Chinese get put land from these dull chaps like they are buying chicken in Hungry Lion. This is another reason why we need Land Reforms…

    • True the chief MUST shut up he is very ignorant of different governments operate. In his thinking Zambian laws are Swaziland laws. He thinks if king Muswati is permitted to accept gifts in his capacity as king in that country, Lungu in Zambia should follow suit. Where is the chief henchmen? Advise him please Lungu himself is now ashamed because of Dora and Amos who have spoken with mouth wide open how our president has been ignorant of the law he studied for many years.

    • My point is that the Chief does not understand the law….two wrongs do not make it right ..moreover Swaziland is a monarchy with different set of laws, where a King can simple pick teen girls like goats in the field!!

    • Jay Jay, again what is your point like the other blogger asked? Two wrongs do not make a right, well taken, but what wrong or crime has Lungu committed by receiving a gift?

    • The problem with some of you is you are both mentality and physically LAZY to read or carry out simple basic research..Section 21 of the Anti-Corruption Act of Zambia cited by Elias Chipimo ..its there in black and white but because we have corrupt chaps as leaders who are breaching and violating every law to suit them…you think its okay. FYI the Kingdom already stated that they didn’t give Lazy Lungu that plot…
So are you going to ask me how to locate this clause??

  4. All this simply shows that ECL and PF are working and the clueless opposition characters are panicking as they no real issues to use to maintain their relevance! The PRANK MASTER even hurriedly organized a press conference …. Imwe mwe bantu sure!

  5. It would be difficult to say that Edgar Mutaware Lungu’s economic plan failed because he never had one to begin with anyway. Now. since economic developement does not work like osmosis i.e. wishes morphing into reality, the Zambian economy has floundered under Lungu’s aimless kleptomaniac rule. See, it is impossible to grow an economy: it requires skill, luck and the right circumstances. However, on the other hand it easy to cannibalise by extracting rent wherever it is possible. This is the kleptomaniac tendencies of Lungu and his canibals that have brought the Zambian economy to its knees. Now that people have discovered the Jameson King Mutaware is stack naked, any stories that didn’t fit the narrative of the incompetent regime is deemed unpatriotic and subversive with severe…

  6. I see lies here, Mujimanzovu is not from Mushindamo District but Solwezi district. And if for sure the land was given to him, why has he taken so much years to develop it? Does the chief know if Mswati told his kingdom about the gesture he received?

    • @SALAH YNWA: POINT OF CORRECTION, CHIEF MIJIMANZOVU IS FROM THE NEWLY CREATED MUSHINDAMO DISTRICT WHICH EXTENDS FROM KIPUSHI BOARDER TO MAPUNGA AREA. HIS PALACE IS IN MUSHINDAMO DISTRICT. BUT HIS KINGDOM ALSO EXTENDS INTO PART OF SOLWEZI. YES, BEFORE MUSHINDAMO BECAME A DISTRICT, CHIEFS MUJIMANZOVU, KALILELE, CHIKOLA, MUSAKA ETC WERE ALL IN SOLWEZI. BUT NOT ANY MORE.

  7. Malabishi… full of contradictions in the report. He says Mswati was given land as a personal gift but the same Mswati promised to send the official ‘delegation’ to go and investigate how ‘development can be put up and also look at economic activities the two countries can embark on.’ To me that sounds like Mswati was intending to turn this land gift for the country. He wanted economic development for the country but Lungu is building a personal house. Also Mswati allegedly promised to return the favour to Rupiah but gave it to Lungu. Again another sign Mswati was targeting the office of the president, rather than an individual or private gift.

But there are 2 big issues here: 1) Mswati is a King, Lungu is 2 term president. Thus in Kingdom or Chiefdom, whatever the King owns…

…But there are 2 big issues here: 1) Mswati is a King, Lungu is 2 term president. Thus in Kingdom or Chiefdom, whatever the King owns belongs to the people as entire country belongs to him 2) The land in eSwatini was given to Lungu by a private company Inyatsi that has lucrative contracts in Zambia. You read my lips and need I say more?

They are really trying hard to come up with propaganda to try and defend this corruption bribery but it’s not working. The more they try, the worse the scandal looks.

  9. So HH can own land in South Africa and paradise? and H.E Lungu cannot own land in Swaziland?

    • Man are you for real? HH is a private citizen and can own anything he wants and if his wealth is accumulated illegally the law can visit him anytime. It’s this kind of reasoning that is derailing this country, matching in long strides back to the barbaric stone age period. Jeez it’s true what they say about an average IQ of Sub Saharan people, being around 30. This LT blog has evidence of this. What a shame!

  10. What will not bring sanity to Zambia is where a President is given land as a ‘gift’ in a foreign land and does not publicly announce but only to see architectural drawings of his proposed mansion through social media

  11. What the heck?? Guys let us face facts. Mswati is running a Kingdom, in short he is allowed to acquire anything including someone’s wife, goat, land, gifts etc. Edgar is running a democratic government and the laws and constitution of the two countries would certainly differ. It is this support of the “wrong ‘ that is derailing development and making majority Zambians remain poor. All this nonsense from an assumed paid chief is a clear sign of guilt by Lungu and his supporters. Lungu remains answerable of his sins against the laws of our loved country. Let us protect our land for the future generation.

Mate you are bang on the money… my thoughts exactly (see my comments above). This country will never develop with this kind of attitude.

  12. The only issue here is jealous. Zambians are jealous. Your excellency just build your holiday home if you have got the money. Zambians like poverty. Muzafa na jealous, muchinje

    • BUILD YOUR HOLIDAY HOME === WITH STOLEN MONEY – MONEY STOLEN FROM ROAD TENDERS !!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @Chitapankwa–You can’t use your office to receive gifts from foreign dignitaries. That’s unethical. See below what happens in The U.S.
Gifts from foreign governments aren’t actually property of the president. A tangible gift of more than minimal value accepted for reasons of protocol or courtesy may not be kept as a personal gift, but is considered accepted on behalf of and property of the United States. A gift for the President or the President’s family is handled by the National Archives and Records Administration. After a gift has been accepted it is stored in the National Archives while they are in-office. Once their term has ended the collection moves to a Presidential Library. Occasionally a president may not want to part with a particular item and they are given the…

  13. This chief looks poor and hungry – not to be taken seriously in matters of integrity! In fact it is because of such poor Chiefs that we end up with a scenario where foreigners own more than 50% of our vast land! Lusaka is 100% Galaun owned. We the locals now have to line up and buy our land through a proxy called Meanwood! Our children will be buying their own land from the Chinese! This is the reason why no single chief should be allowed to dish land any how! In any case, our leaders – whether traditional or political are not to be trusted! As for ECL’s Eswatini land, it has been proved beyond doubt that it was not from the chief but from Inyatsi! Let the chief not allow himself to be used or he loses respect!

    • That Abe Galaun bought land when we didn’t even have a black middle class in the country for a song…in I wonder where he took all his riches apart from his family; if I was that wealthy I would build a library or a scholarship for University students….am sure they are available in the Zambian Jewish community.

  14. Zambia is 44 times bigger than Swaziland. I would be comfortable if ECL gave land to king Mswati. But what the two guys did is something normal thinking Zambians are failing to understand. Moreover ECL kept quiet until the whole saga was leaked. Only an individual like Mushota with her PHD can support this nonsense.

    • You forgot the imposter by the name xxxx princess…who is swift to suck off Lazy Lungu. How dare she uses the Nubian name…without knowing its history I bet you she has fake hair on her empty shell.
      No class..

  15. Our chiefs do not seem to know the difference between a chiefdom and the presidency…! What the chiefs are doing is simply exhibiting their ignorance of a constitutional democracy and putting themselves in line to be publicly criticized!

  16. This is like dressing a baboon to make it look like a human. Chiefs in Zambia routinely give land to whomsoever. What has that got to do with the pending Edgar Lungu / Eswatini property saga?

  17. First things first. Is there law in Zambia which prohibits HE ECL to own things. This land was given to a Zambian in the name of ECL. It’s a plus to Zambia. I cant believe these levels of jealous. What do you eat, which I must avoid?. Is there a jealous fruit of vegetable? Do you expect Nigerians to complain that Dangote has been given land in Zambia?. That land was given to Lungu in his personal capacity. Go and buy your land too. Eh!!. Give me the name of the jealous fruit or vegetable so I can avoid it.

    • Really laughable… you asked a question then answered it yourself but unfortunately you answered wrong but then proceeded to make a conclusion…you are clearly not a critical thinker!!

  18. @ 14, you need to examine your bp & jealous levels and develop and index of your own. Jealous ipaya ngati simudziwa ka. Soon ECL will be a private citizen and if he is given something what is wrong with that. Whoever invented a thermometer should have started with a jealousmeter first for people like you.

  19. We the people of the republic of Zambia welcome the good gesture made by the good people of the kingdom of Eswatini by giving their land to one of us. This is what Ubuntu is all about embracing each other and showing love to one another.

I must report that only a few disgruntled Zambians who are also enemies of progress are against this donation that was made in good faith. Furthermore, they are just a bunch of good for nothing citizens whose efforts to rule Zambia have proved fruitless as they have kissed the ground several times when it comes to elections and will continue exhibiting jealousness for the remaining days of their lives.

Your Excellency ECL, I urge you not to be distracted by these few tribal men. You are doing a great job taking development to all the parts of Zambia…

    • That’s unethical. Why should one use their office to accumulate gifts? This is unheard of in the U.S.
Gifts from foreign governments aren’t actually property of the president. 20. I like Elias Chipimo because he quotes the law when putting up his arguments. Unlike just saying this one is a thief . The ACC act forbids public servants from getting gifts and there is a cabinet circular which says in case you are given you should declare. The question is when one declares does the gift remain theres or the state. In case of the President when people raise concerns over such matters the best thing to do is to let it go. Of the land in question it has another dimension of being linked to a company which has contracts running in Zambia. These are matters that would bring the president’s character in question and we don’t want him to be spending time explaining how he got some property. President Lungu should disband his team of advisors.

    • Caught red-handed, as he has been in this case; and corrupt as we have always known him, how may Edgar Lungu turn around to enforce a law against corruption? He lives in a glass house, therefore, he cannot throw stones.

    • It’s here where Edgar Lungu’s corruption should concern us all. Guarding us is a dog that can neither bark or bite, because it has a bone in its mouth and a chunk of meat in its throat.

  21. @chitapankwa – unfortunately its people with reasoning like yours that surround the President, thereby, unable to provide advise that will benefit the President and the people of Zambia. No my friend we don’t eat any fruit or food that you should avoid, instead we use our brains for thinking and understanding issues while you run your mouth independently from your brain.
Have you heard of a gift and hospitality register for persons in public office, or annual declaration of interest by persons in high public office, probably not. If you had you would not conclude people of Zambia are jealous. You are proper mediocre on this topic so please take a seat on this one.

  22. IT WORRIES ME TO SEE OUR PARENTS AND TRADITIONAL LEADERS WHO SHOULD SHOW DIRECTION TO ITS SUBJECTS EXHIBITING HIGH LEVELS OF DULLNESS IN PUBLIC. NIMAWANU NAIMWE. JST KEEP QUITE. THE ANTI CORRUPTION LAWS THAT WE UPHOLD IN ZAMBIA CANNOT BE USED TO DEBATE A SIMILAR MATTER IN ANOTHER COUNTRY. WHAT WE ARE SAYING IS THAT LUNGU WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO ACCEPT THE LAND NO, HE WAS SUPPOSED TO PUBLICLY DECLARE THE PROPERTY. THTS LAW AND YOU (MUJIMANZOVU) CANT CHANGE IT. PERIOD

  23. THIS IS RIDICULOUS – IT IS RIDICULOUS BECAUSE THEY THINK WE ZAMBIANS ARE STUPID !!!! THE GOVERNMENT IS UNDERMINING OUR INTELLECT !! THIS DEAL IS CORRUPT TO THE CORE – WE HAVE A COMPANY WHO HAS RECEIVED ROAD TENDERS BUILDING A 4 MILLION DOLLAR MANSION FOR ECL IN SWAZILAND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIRE TENDERS, ROAD TENDERS ALL TENDERS NEED TO BE PROBED BY INDEPENDENT FIRM !!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS THE MOST CORRUPT COUNTRY IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

    • How can you be “Jealous” of someone you are paying… I mean how can you be jealous of someone who is breaking the law. Let’s not be lazy in thinking…

  24. And whats the chiefs intention in all this….honestly his trying to cover up for a person that doesn’t have to answer to us but the people of eswatini and unlike where gifts are passed on to a person holding public office this is unprofessional

  25. Rupiah stinks with corruption that big nose for nothing Gwandese! As for Lungu, he will learn a very big lesson that stealing does not pay, he will end up being the first president from Southern Africa to be shot or violently removed and executed like Muammar Gaddafi. The likes of Dora Slit will be well deserving collateral damage. One really cannot imagine what this country ever did to these criminals to expose it to such a massive dibilitating kleptocracy, it hurts so bad.

  26. I think this simple cannot make us to be qualloling nevertheless Zambia is one Edgar is not ruler for life let those thinking beyond to do something else rather hearing to what politicians say…

  27. I think this simple cannot make us to be dull nevertheless Zambia is one Edgar is not ruler for life let those thinking beyond to do something else rather hearing to what politicians say…

  28. King Mswati may or may not have been given land in 2009. If he was, it may have been done as a symbolic gesture. That happens all the time. He has not spent a Kwacha to develop the land he was given. That was the understanding then. It still is. Give him another 100 years, he will never come to develop the land he was given. And yet his country, Eswatini is one of the smallest countries in the world. You would have thought he is desperate for land. No, he is not. Our Edgar Lungu is the very opposite. How about a skunk for nostalgia!

  29. But, is Lungu a King or is simply a Chief Executive Officer of the Zambian Government?

Lungu is not King. He is a servant of the people of Zambia, who are his employers. Anything that accrues to him in the tour of duty of the office of president vests in the people of Zambia! All profits from other sources to the Office of President must be declared and surrendered to the Treasury!

But, Mswati is King. Lungu is not! Let us compare like with like.

  30. @Chitapankwa, Please go and hide your ignorance away. HH is of no interest to us in this case regardless of how much property, Bank accounts or companies he may have in foreign countries. HH is not an employee of the Zambian people. Lungu is!!. The country does not spend any money on HH. Lungu gobbles huge amounts starting from his salary, travels and security, not to mention medical fees. If HH were to become President, first he would be required to close all personal Bank accounts abroad, leave the running of his companies to others and declare his personal property where ever it may be. This is to ensure that he does not use the Presidency to enrich himself and his family. The ignorance of Zambians makes it possible for a person elected as President to abuse state institutions…

  31. Since this president is a thief, which thief can he ever catch? Or does he mean to tell us, he will start with himself?

  32. Mswati is the last reigning monarch in Africa who rules over a monarchy. Whatever he does or says is law there just similar to a dictatorship. Whatever belongs to the kingdom belongs to the king. There are no elections and pipo have no say. The king’ s eldest son will automatically take over from him. This is as opposed to us here where there is democracy and leaders are elected. The presidency is different from the individual. Please do not compare a monarchy to a democratic state.

  33. Why should these chiefs continue defending the president when they dont understand this constituting of the land?but this dangerous to have such crazy chiefs.

  34. Both the chief and the special assistant for cover up must know that if Mswati was given the land in Zambia, maybe his country allows but for us here in Zambia the policy does not allow. Straight forward issue and I am PF

  35. Jealous and lazyness has killed Zambians, the poor does not want others to succeed ,the rich does not want poor one’s to get rich wat a country, lungu is president and a gift I don’t think there is anything wrong even buying wats wrong ,60%of Zambians have become poor because want to feed on politics even wen you’re just kapuchuchu let’s change otherwise we are going no were

    • No wonder Zambia is not moving forward because of people like you. See below the practice in the U.S.:
Gifts from foreign governments aren’t actually property of the president. A tangible gift of more than minimal value accepted for reasons of protocol or courtesy may not be kept as a personal gift, but is considered accepted on behalf of and property of the United States. 36. One can see the Bishop of Corruption ‘Kanitundila Banda’ is the Crook mentoring Jona in the art of Stealing state resources.
SO SHAMEFUL, AS KANITUNDILA & HIS CORRUPT SON SHOULD BE BEHIND BARS AS WE SPEAK!
The “innocent” son fled as soon as Government changed, & this will happen to lots of clowns in this current Corrupt regime.

  37. with due respect to the chief; the gift given to Mswati during RB’s time was made public; Lungu’s has been hidden until a whistle blower revealed it; it is not a gift from Mswati; but from the company which won contracts in Zambia; it is a corrupt gift;

  38. CHIEF WITH ALL DUE RESPECT FIRST AND FOREMOST, I FEEL YOU NEED TO TRY AND LEARN THE LAWS THAT EXIST IN ESWATINI OR SWAZILAND BEFORE YOU CAN BEGIN TO COMPARE BECAUSE YOU WILL END UP COMPARING APPLES WITH WHEELBARROWS WHICH WILL NOT MAKE SENSE. THE FACT IS THAT HERE IN ZAMBIA IT IS AGAINST OUR LAWS TO ACCEPT SUCH GIFTS AND CONVERT THEM TO PERSONAL USE, WE DO NOT KNOW IF THAT APPLIES IN SWAZILAND AS WELL, YOU CAN NOT SAY THIS PERSON ALLOWED HIS WIFE TO SLEEP WITH THE OTHER GUY AND DID NOT PRESS CHARGES SO IF THE OTHER GUY SLEEPS WITH MY WIFE YOU CAN NOT ASK ME NOT TO PRESS CHARGES AS WELL, IS THAT HOW YOU DELIBERATE CASES AMONG YOUR SUBJECTS??.

  39. THESE POLITICIAN A DISGRACE TO THE NATION. IF WE ARE NOT CAREFUL, THESE POLITICIAN WILL SET OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY ON FIRE. PLEASE STOP CHEAP POLITICS. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG FOR SOMEONE TO BE GIVEN LAND AND DEVELOP IT USING HIS MONEY.
