Zambia U17 trials for 2018 COSAFA U17 Cup intensify

The Zambia U17 bench is set to trim the team to 25 ahead of next month’s defence of the 2018 COSAFA U17 Cup in Mauritius.

Forty players are currently on trials in Lusaka and battling to make the final provisional team to be announced next week after MRI tests are completed this weekend.

Zambia will defend their title next month at the tournament Mauritius will host from July 19-29.

Junior Chipolopolo is in Group B where they will play South Africa, Mozambique and Lesotho.

Zambia will kick-off their title defence on July 19 against Mozambique and later play Lesotho on July 22 before closing their Group B campaign against South Africa on July 24.

The tournament will principally act as regional qualifier for the 2019 U17 AFCON that will be hosted by Tanzania.

Winner of the COSAFA Cup will be joined at the Tanzania finals by the other six regional winners plus the 8th team from WAFU Zone A who have a bonus spot where defending U17 AFCON champions Mali are from.
