Nkana beat Zanaco and leap to third place

Share

Nkana went third overnight on Sunday at the top of the FAZ Super Division table after demolishing Zanaco 4-2 away at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

The win was sweet revenge for Nkana who lost 1-0 at home in Kitwe to Zanaco in May.

Nkana displaced their Kitwe foes, Power Dynamos, from the number three spot who are also in Lusaka to play Red Arrows on Sunday up the road at Nkoloma Stadium.

Nkana took a 2-1 halftime lead through goals from Harrison Chisala and Festus Mbewe in the 21 and 40th minutes respectively.

Boyd Musonda scored in-between for Zanaco in the 27th minute.

Zanaco restored parity just after the break through Rodgers Kola but Nkana went back ahead in the 59th minute via a Walter Bwalya goal.

Idris Mbombo put the result beyond doubt with a 79th minute penalty after a handball by Zanaco captain George Chilufya.

Nkana have 45 points, tied with Power who drop to fourth, and are eight points behind second placed Green Buffaloes who hosts Lusaka Dynamos on Sunday.

Zanaco drop from fourth to sixth on 44 points.
