The Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) has recorded a significant improvement in water supply to Kabanana Township following its successful connection to the surface water network system.
The interconnection, completed recently as part of LWSC’s ongoing network optimization programme, has increased water inflows to Kabanana, bringing much-needed relief to households that previously endured long periods without water.
LWSC Managing Director, Jilly Chiyombwe, said the connection has helped stabilize supply in the township to acceptable levels, adding that the company is working closely with the Kabanana Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Committee to further enhance network performance.
“The connection to the Matero Reservoir has brought visible improvement. Areas such as Kabanana Site and Service, which previously had no water at all, are now receiving supply. This is a significant milestone in improving access to clean and safe water for our customers,” Mr Chiyombwe said.
He added that the two operational boreholes in Kabanana have continued to supplement the water system and have shown improved performance following an increase in daily power supply to an average of seven hours, ensuring more consistent water delivery.
Mr Chiyombwe noted that LWSC has energized the network and is focusing on upgrading leaking sections to improve water pressure, reduce losses and ensure reliable supply to all zones.
“To enhance efficiency, the company plans to install two new control valves to better manage flow and pressure,” he said.
The media reports that currently, Kabanana residents are receiving water for an average of six hours per day, supported by the two boreholes, under a rationing schedule designed to ensure fair distribution.
Mr Chiyombwe further encouraged customers to visit the nearest LWSC office to verify and update their account details to ensure accurate billing and improved service delivery.
“We are grateful to the community and the CDF Committee for their cooperation. We remain committed to making further improvements as we work towards sustainable, equitable, and reliable water supply for all our customers,” he said.
He emphasized that LWSC continues to implement measures under its Water Supply Improvement Programme to ensure universal access to safe and reliable water, in line with the Lusaka City Water Supply Improvement Master Plan.
