Nakacinda pleads not guilty to amended espionage charge

Raphael Nakacinda, a senior official from the Patriotic Front (PF) faction, has entered a fresh plea before the Lusaka High Court following amendments to the charge in his ongoing espionage case.

The State revised the particulars of the offence, alleging that Nakacinda, between August 26 and September 29, 2023, jointly with unknown individuals, engaged in activities considered prejudicial to the safety or interests of the Republic.

According to the amended information, the allegations stem from a documentary circulated on YouTube titled “The Grand Regional Scheme: How Foreign Powers and Local Elites are Destroying Africa.”

When the matter came up for plea, Nakacinda denied the charge, pleading not guilty.

The case is expected to proceed to trial, where the State will seek to prove the allegations against the opposition figure.
