The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has commenced the training of 166 District Election Trainers as part of preparations for the August 13, 2026 General Election.
The trainers, drawn from districts across the country, will be responsible for training frontline poll staff who will manage polling stations on election day.
Speaking during the opening of the Lusaka Province workshop, Lusaka Provincial Electoral Officer Charlton Hamulyata described the exercise as a critical step towards conducting credible, transparent and professional elections.
Mr Hamulyata said the quality of the training would have a direct impact on the conduct of the electoral process, noting that even minor errors during training could result in significant challenges on polling day.
He urged participants to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, impartiality and strict adherence to electoral procedures in order to uphold the integrity of the Electoral Commission and the electoral process.
Meanwhile, Lusaka District Electoral Officer Oliver Muuka said the success of the August 13 General Election will largely depend on how well poll staff are trained.
He encouraged the trainers to fully understand the electoral procedures so they can effectively transfer the knowledge and skills to polling officials across the country.
