3

Nine Hundred fifty four (954) girls are benefiting from the keeping girls in school program under the Girl Education and Women Empowerment Livelihood(GEWELL) program in Itezhi Tezhi District in Central Province.

Itezhi Tezhi District Commissioner Hendrix Kaimana disclosed this when National Development and Planning Minister Alexander Chiteme paid a courtesy call on him at his office yesterday.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Kaimana revealed that out of the targeted 1,062 only 944 are currently benefiting from school sponsorship.

The keeping Girls in school program is aimed at helping girls from vulnerable homes to have access to secondary education and the beneficiaries are drawn from households that are benefiting from the social cash transfer program.

With regard to the Supporting Women Livelihood Project, Mr. Kaimana revealed that 464 women have received startup capital amounting to K2, 000 and that the department of community development is in the process of identifying 700 beneficiaries to be included on the project.

Mr Kaimana said that under social cash transfer 1,778 people are benefiting and that 150 boys have been registered under the keeping Boys in school though they are still waiting funding.

Both the Girl Education and Women Empowerment Livelihood ( GEWEL) programmes which are funded by the World Bank are being implemented by the ministries of Gender, Education, Community Development and Social Welfare.

The programme is currently in 16 districts countrywide.

And Minister for National Development and Planning Alexander Chiteme said he was happy that social programs aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people in Itezhi Tezhi were doing fine.

He said told the District commissioner that the implementation of the women empowerment should be completed.

Mr. Chiteme said he was happy that six sub-projects of the Strengthening Climate Resilience in the Kafue Basin (SCRiKA) under the Pilot Program for climate Resilience (PPCR) have been completed.

He, however said that there is need for the 46 projects that have been funded with K829, 910 out of the 102 projects approved to be implemented urgently.

“We need also need to implement the poultry and goat projects under the SCRiKA and not just the solar powered boreholes” Mr. Chiteme said.

Meanwhile the commissioner reported that Itezhi Tezhi district has recorded a sharp decrease in maize yield from 56,143 metric tons to 39,211 metric tons for 2016/17 farming season.

He has ascribed the reduction to poor rainfall and the army worm attack.

He further said that the district has received 50 metric tons of relief maize from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

He said that the maize was used as food for work for vulnerable communities who were affected during the 2016/2017 farming season.

President Edgar Lungu has called upon the private sector to increase investment in agro-processing in order to add value to the country’s agro products.

President Lungu said this will guarantee job creation as the country is poised to become competitive in the region and beyond.

The Republican President said this during the official opening of the 92nd Zambia Agricultural and Commercial show in Lusaka today celebrated under the theme ‘sustainable economic empowerment ‘.

Mr. Lungu said the theme is in line with government’s aspirations espoused in the Second National Agricultural Policy(SNAP) to have an efficient, competitive and sustainable agricultural sector which assures food and nutrition security, increased employment opportunities and incomes.

The need for sustainable economic empowerment for all Zambians through diversified economic activities is the overall objective, he added.

“ Government is focused on achieving economic growth through diversification by investing in growth sectors which will impact positively on the lives of the majority of the people, “ said the President.

He emphasized the need to increase production in agriculture in all sectors to see a wide range of crops, livestock and fish in the spirit of diversification.

The Republican President added that crops, fisheries and livestock sub-sectors are among the strategic areas of focus in the quest to attaining sustainable economic empowerment in line with this year’s agricultural and Commercial show theme.

“ The sub-sectors have the capacity to reduce poverty, enhance food and nutrition security, create employment and wealth for many people, “ he said.

And speaking at the same event, Agricultural and Commercial Show Society of Zambia President Caroline Silwamba noted that the theme is appropriate as it sends a signal that economic empowerment is essential for economies and businesses everywhere if the country is to remain competitive in today’s international economy.

Ms. Silwamba revealed that the show has attracted both local and foreign exhibitors from various sectors of the economy.

The show has recorded over 110 foreign exhibitors representing 20 countries from Africa, Asia,Europe and South America, respectively.

Ms. Silwamba further disclosed that local participation has recorded over 1000 exhibitors marking an increase in the number of exhibitors as compared to last year.

Sinkamba urges Newton Chamisa to be magnanimous and accept defeat

Losing MDC Alliance presidential candidate Newton Chamisa should be magnanimous enough to accept defeat, says Green Party president Peter Sinkamba.

Commenting on the just ended parliamentary and presidential elections in Zimbabwe, Mr. Sinkamba said whilst it is true that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) did not address concerns raised by stakeholders with regards to the design, printing, and dispatch of ballot papers as well as not permitting meaningful observation of the production of ballot papers or testing of indelible ink, including State media and other state resources which were abused throughout the pre-election period to the advantage the ruling party, however, voters did cast their votes freely and enmass.

Mr. Sinkamba said for the first time in many years, election environment on voting day was more peaceful and open than in previous elections including the presence of international observers.

He singled out the signing of the National Peace Pledge and the Code of Conduct by the political parties as having helped reduce tension during the campaign period. He however condemned the MDC Alliance for failing to prevail over their cadres whilst votes verification was underway resulting in widespread chaos and tragic loss of 6 lives.

Mr. Sinkamba said that voters roll had improved from 2013. He however noted that urban registration lagged behind rural registration with 73% of voters in urban areas registering to vote compared to 82% in rural areas.

He said the MDC Alliance lost because less people registered to vote in urban areas where it had strong support whilst ZANU-PF won due to strong support in rural areas where more people registered to vote.

“At 98% of polling stations, all polling agents present were given an official copy of the V11 results forms, and the official results were immediately posted for all interested parties to examine. It was only at 2% of polling stations were official copies of the V11 results forms not provided to all polling agents and the official results not immediately posted. However, aggregation by independent election monitors and observers of all V11 results forms posted confirm the results which were announced by ZEC were correct,” he said.

“Therefore, losing MDC Alliance presidential candidate Chamisa should just be magnanimous enough to accept defeat. It will be more honourable of him if he accepts the invitation extended to him by the president-elect Mnangagwa to work together in the interest of the nation,” he said.

HH’s Lack of Commitment to Peace may one Day land us with a Blood Thirsty Glorified Warlord

There are no words to describe UPND President Hakainde Hichilema’s decision to trash the efforts of on-going harmony seeking engagement between the youth in his party and the ruling Patriotic front.

Less than forty Eight  hours ago,  the nation watched in joyful amazement as a  previously  seemingly impossible meeting of high level  women and youth leaders from the PF and UPND took place at the UPND secretariat. The nation breathed a collective sigh of relief as it witnessed a reconciliatory atmosphere of brotherly and sisterly love.

The PF delegation included Honourable Stephen Kampyongo – the nation’s Minister of home Affairs whose portfolio includes the maintenance of law and order.  Although he attended the meeting as PF Chairperson for Youth and Security, his input Minister of Home Affairs was inevitably critical. So was the commitment of Honourable Jean Kapata – Minister for Lands even as she attended the meeting as PF Chairperson for Women. The UPND delegation equally comprised key decision makers and influencers, including their Deputy Secretary General Hon Patrick Mucheleka.

The entire nation – citizens of different political parties including neutrals were still basking in the afterglow of the peace talks and were looking ahead to the joint and mutual  implementation of the historic meetings resolution… until this morning when the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema threw a wet blanket on peace and good will to all men and women.

Hichilema claimed his youths were duped by PF over the peace pact and that he will not sign a peace accord. He has again issued new instructions for youths to defend themselves violently if provoked by PF.

What kind of man incites “his” youth to renege on their commitment to peace? Not only is he insulting the intelligence of the youth in the UPND, he is casting an affront on the intelligence and reasoning of all the youth in Zambia. After all it is the youth whom blood thirsty people use for their selfish ambitions.

Zambians must be wary of politicians who have serious traits of desperate blood thirsty glorified warlords disguised as well-meaning political leaders. Zambia must reject politicians who yearn for violence. The youth of Zambia must reject selfish politicians who desire to use youths for violence.

Clearly Mr. Hichilema’s pronouncements confirm that the decision by youths from his Party does not serve his political interests best. He is not interested in the wellbeing of our mothers and the youth. We are vindicated when we say that Mr. Hichilema does not mean well for peace and it’s the reason his party’s membership base keeps dwindling. He does not mean well for the UPND either. No wonder he failed to condemn the Mapatizya violence, Namwala violence, and the recent violence against violence in Chilanga against journalists.

We call upon our right thinking brothers and sisters in the United Party of National Development to pursue the path of peace and reject calls for war and bloodshed. Bloodshed has no winner. While you fight, Mr. Hakainde and his children relax in air conditioned surroundings.

Lastly, we also call upon all Zambians to rise up and condemn Mr. Hichilema just as we appeal to the international community in Zambia, the church the women’s movement and civil society to take a note of his morbid affinity to bloodshed. However our earnest appeal is to Hichilema himself to find inner peace. When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others.

Most of the Eurobond most likely used to finance government consumption-World Bank Report

59
The meeting between the Government officials from the Ministry of FInance and the World bank Officials

The World Bank says it is most likely that most of the Eurobond has been used to finance Government’s consumption.

And the World Bank has observed that the third Eurobond of US$1 billion did not have a detailed plan of how it would be spent unlike the first two.

In a report titled How to Borrow without Sorrow, the World Bank noted that where resources from the Eurobond had not been linked to specific investment, it is most likely that they have been used to finance Government’s consumption.

The report released last December shows that the first two Eurobonds were accompanied by a detailed plan of how they would be spent.

The third Eurobond however had no such plan, but that statements were later issued that the funds would be used for infrastructure.

It says most of the resources were earmarked for the transport sector and mainly the road sector.

The World Bank noted that most of the recent trunk road investments since 2011 have been delivered as part of the Link Zambia 8000 (US$5.4 billion for 8,000km of roads, 2012-17) and the Pave Zambia 200 project.

It says other urban road programs, include Lusaka 400 (US$350 million to rehabilitate and upgrade 400km) and the Copperbelt 400 (US$492 million for 406km).

“To fund these ambitious programs, the government utilized lending from China, other traditional and non-traditional development partners, and US$ 28 million earmarked from the Eurobond proceeds,” it states.

“There is not much argument about whether investment in infrastructure is necessary (Zambia’s infrastructure lags that of southern African peers and is important for growth31), but there has been concern about whether the right projects have been selected and whether value for money has been achieved,” the report says.

It observes that the road programs were very ambitious (9,000km of roads in five year) and that they were not well prioritized.

It further notes that a framework was absent to direct resources if less than US$6 billion were made available.

“When the available resources fell short of this figure, the selection of roads became haphazard and was not always motivated by economic and social returns. The cost of the roads has also been high relative to the cost of construction elsewhere in the region,” it read.

“For Zambian roads, the median cost of construction and upgrading of paved roads under 100km was US$457,000 per km per lane, and for roads over 100km the median cost was US$360,000. When compared to the median cost of paving roads in the region, Zambia’s roads stand out as being very expensive (box 8). It is often argued that Zambian roads are more expensive than other countries’ in the region because of the higher cost of inputs such as steel, cement and bitumen.”

The report however states that the difference in the cost of bitumen and cement explains only some of the high cost of Zambia’s roads.

“The reason for the high costs relates more to poor public investment management (especially a lack of competitive tendering) and long delays in payments. The much higher costs of road building increase the avenues for corruption,” it says.

Miles Sampa to clamp down on illegal bars

Mayor of the City of Lusaka Miles Sampa taking Oath before Magistrate David Simusamba during the his Installation as Mayor of the City of Lusaka at Nakatindi Grounds

Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa has vowed to vigorously implement regulations that govern opening and closing times for bars and taverns.

Mr Sampa said there is need to regulate the consumption of alcohol in the capital city.

He said one of his main tasks is to ensure that all bars and taverns adhere to the regulations that governs beer trading.

Mr Sampa said he is concerned that most bars in Lusaka do not follow the guidelines and opening and closing times.

He said he will not hesitate to close down bars and taverns that are not following laid down procedures.

Mr Sampa was speaking in Lusaka on Friday evening during a cocktail party organised by the Lusaka City Council following his installation as Mayor.

“I will start inspecting the opening and closing of bars. Infact, I will start with the Buzz Café which is the place I usually frequent and check when they open and what time they close. Even at Capone, I will go and inspect and if we find that they are operating outside the law, we shall close them down,” Mr Sampa warned.

Katumbi blocked from entering Congo

Congolese opposition leader Moïse Katumbi has crossed no-man’s land between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo with thousands of his supporters who came to meet him.
He is currently at immigration, reports the BBC’s senior Africa correspondent Anne Soy.

Earlier we quoted his supporters as saying he had crossed the border.

On Friday morning, the authorities said he would not be allowed to enter the country. He had requested authorisation to fly back from South Africa, but when this was denied he decided to fly to Zambia and then cross the border into DR Congo by road.

The border town of Kasumbalesa is about 95km (59 miles) to his hometown Lubumbashi.

A wealthy businessman and former governor, Mr Katumbi left DR Congo in 2016.

He was later sentenced in absentia to 36 months in prison on charges he says are politically motivated.

He wants to return before a deadline for people to register their candidacy for the long-delayed presidential elections – now scheduled to take place in December.
Katumbi’s spokesperson Olivier Kamitatu had said “authorisation to fly over and land had been refused by Kinshasa”.

“We will take off in the direction of (Zambian city) Ndola to take the road to Lubumbashi,” Kamitatu tweeted.

At least two police checkpoints were set up to screen access to Lubumbashi’s airport on Friday morning and the main road to Zambia had been blocked by a truck, an AFP journalist said.

“As you can see, we are waiting for the president (Katumbi), but those in power do not want him to be there,” said Katumbi’s brother Abraham Soriano.

The former governor of the mineral-rich southern province of Katanga had once been close to long-serving President Joseph Kabila before the two had a falling out.

If Katumbi does return he faces possible arrest after being handed a three-year jail term in absentia in June 2016 in a case of alleged property fraud, charges he denies.

Another rival of Kabila, former rebel leader Jean-Pierre Bemba, returned to the country and officially launched his bid for the presidency this week.

The DRC has never known a peaceful transition of power since it gained independence in 1960 – and some experts fear that the December 23 elections may trigger a bloody conflict.

Kabila, 47, has been at the helm since 2001, presiding over a vast mineral-rich country with a reputation for corruption, inequality and unrest.

He was scheduled to stand down at the end of 2016 after his second elected term, technically the last permitted under the constitution.

Kabila has refused to spell out whether he will seek a new term in the vote. Candidates must submit their applications by August 8 and physically be in the country to do so.

Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Mwila says Republican President Edgar Lungu is in full support of the ongoing peace talks between the opposition UPND and the ruling party.

And Mr. Mwila has reechoed the ruling party’s commitment to a church led dialogue with the opposition political parties facilitated by the Zambia Centre for Inter-party Dialogue (ZCID).

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwila says the landmark meeting between the two rival parties Chief Executive Officer (himself and UPND’S Stephen Katuka) was a signal that the nation was a step away from witnessing the long awaited meeting between President Lungu and his opposition counterpart Hakainde Hichilema.

He says this would be realised if only the opposition party can be committed to peace and dialogue.

Speaking at the UPND Secretariat in Lusaka today, where he had led a team of senior PF leaders for a courtesy call on UPND Secretary General Katuka, Mr. Mwila reiterated that the gesture made by the ruling party merely indicated the UPND was at liberty to call on him and visit the PF Secretariat to address any issue of concern.

“As PF, we are excited with the ongoing talks between the UPND and ourselves as undertaken by our women and youths… His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu is in full support of those discussions and that is why you are seeing us here for the very first time, “stated Mr. Mwila.

“I always wonder as to why our youths should constantly be fighting when it is not the case with us the elderly. Evidently, those fights are as a result (of ) the instructions given to the youths by those they look up to in leadership and as such , it is the responsibility of us who are senior in the parties to sensitize our youths against violence.

“Getting into the Kasenengwa by-election, the ruling party will take all the necessary steps to ensure a violence free campaigns and as such, we urge you to equally sensitize your youths that Zambia is our nation- all of us and there is nothing we can fail to achieve using peaceful means.”

Meanwhile, UPND Secretary General Katuka expressed his party’s willingness to participate in the church led dialogue, commitment to peace in future elections and called for honesty even as the two parties engage each other.

Mr. Mwila was accompanied by his Deputy Mumbi Phiri, Chairperson for Legal Affairs in the Central Committee Brian Mundubile, Director Administration Nsama Yamba, Antonio Manza, the Deputy Media Director.

The UPND Katuka led team comprised Deputy Secretary General Patrick Mucheleka, Deputy National Youth Chairman Munji Habeenze and Media Director Ruth Dante

And the PF Secretary General revealed that the ruling party will abide by the agreement signed between the PF women and youths and their UPND counterparts.

The two parties agreed that there will be a steering committee mandated to end political violence and the people head the committee will be selected from the two political parties.

Secondly, it was agreed that both political parties will carry out social and political activities aimed at raising an awareness on the resolution to foster peace and unity.

The two parties , thirdly, agreed to depoliticize all the markets in the country in order to allow traders to trade freely and also find a way of recalling those ( traders ) who were chased.

The two parties also agreed to demilitarize their youths as well as ensure that their respective leadership use civilised language.

1. There will be a steering committee with a mandate to end political violence and the people to spearhead the committee will be selected from the two political parties.

2. Both political parties will carry out social and political events aimed at raising an awareness on the resolution to foster peace and unity.

3. There will be depoliticization of all markets in order to allow for all traders to trade freely and also find a way of taking back those who were chased.

4. There will be no deployment of cadres from one place to the other during political events and rallies.

5. There will be demilitarizing of youths from both political parties.

6. Leaders of the two political parties to use civilised language.

From the PF, the meeting was attended by the ruling party’s Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri, Chairperson for Legal Affairs in the Central Committee Brian Mundubile, Director for Administration Mr Nsama Yamba and the Deputy Media Director Antonio Mwanza.

Attendees from the UPND included Deputy Secretary General Hon Patrick Mucheleka, Deputy National Youth Chairman Munji Habeenzu and Media Director Ruth Dante.

Zambia Police Service Inspector General Kakoma Kanganja
Inspector General of Police (IG) Kakoma Kanganja says police officers have a huge responsibility of defending the integrity of the Zambia Police Service besides maintaining law and order in the country.

Inspector General Kanganja says it is gratifying to note that the men and women in uniform had continued exhibiting the needed dedication to duty under difficult circumstances.

He said that in this year 2018 alone , he is impressed that his officers in their various ranks and files had continued to showcase their ability as expected.

Mr. Kanganja described the late Ngangula as a hardworking, selfless, committed to duty who services shall be missed by the institution.

And Woodland Baptist Church Reverend William Chanda is gratified that the late Sergeant Ngangula gave his life to Christ.

Rev. Chanda said the declaration of Zambia a Christian nation calls for concerted efforts from both civilians and military personnel.

The late Sergeant Ngangula, 43 died at Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital on August 1st, 2018 after an illness.

He leaves behind a wife, Esther and two children.

Teachers urged to be ethical in their duties

1

The Teaching Service Commission ( TSC ) has implored teachers in the country to practice the teaching code of ethics in their excursion of duties.

Teaching service commission vice chairperson Irene Angasishe says this is because the values that teachers are enshrined with at various learning institutions are meant to provide a morally upright society.

Speaking at the third graduation ceremony at Solwezi College of Education in association with the University of Zambia, Ms. Angasishe said the teaching service is one noble sectors that needs high discipline.

Meanwhile, University of Zambia vice chancellor Prof. Luke Mumba urged the students to follow the regulations provided by the Teaching Council of Zambia.

Prof. Mumba said the introduction of the council will help to regulate the teaching profession and restore credibility and respect it once had.

He further appealed to the graduates to note that the measures to improve the teaching and learning in schools and other institutions amount to nothing if the teachers are no willing to take necessary positive steps to ensure overall national development.

Speaking at the same event, Ministry of general education permanent secretary of technical services, Henry Tukombe advised the grandaunts to be of high discipline and full of determination to make the country a better place.

Mr. Tukombe in a speech read on his behalf by Kitwe College of Education principal, Dr. Andrew Mutobo urged the grandaunts to refrain from cases of drug abuse, beer drinking among other uncalled for behaviour.

The graduation saw 360 students get their teaching diploma certificates.

Two Kapiri Mposhi men found guilty of Homosexual conduct

The two Kapiri gay men being taken away after making court appearance

Two men that have stood trial for allegedly engaging in homosexuality have been convicted and committed to the High Court in Kapiri Mposhi District in Central Province for sentencing.

This is in the case where Japhet Chataba, 38 a carpenter and resident of Ndeke compound in Kapiri Mposhi and Stephen Sambo , 30, who is a planning officer at Ndola City Council have been appearing before resident magistrate Ackson Mumba.

The duo were charged with having engaged in having had carnal knowledge against the order of nature contrary to Section 155 (a) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia as read with Statutory Instrument number 15 of 2015.

Both Chataba and Sambo pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The state had lined up five witnesses to testify in the matter.

At the close of the prosecution’s case, Chataba and Sambo were found with prima facie case and subsequently put on their defence.

However, the accused persons who were represented by Daniel Libati of Abha Patel and Associates, a Ndola based legal firm elected to remain silent in their defence.

The matter came up for judgement before Petauke based resident magistrate Ackson Mumba sitting in Kapiri Mposhi on yesterday (Friday).

In his ruling Magistrate Mumba observed that four prosecution witnesses that testified in the matter were eye witnesses because they physically saw Chataba having anal sex with Sambo in room 16 at a named lodge, adding that the prosecution witnesses proved the identity of the two men thereby making the evidence collaborative.

Magistrate Mumba stressed that the first witness remained firm in her examination in chief and cross examination, adding that the credibility of her evidence cannot be questioned.

He added that the defence counsel failed to challenge the evidence of the first witness and the arresting officer.

Magistrate Mumba, in his 90 minute judgement delivered yesterday, further observed that despite the medical doctor who examined the two men that had allegedly engaged in homosexuality informed the court that his findings were inconsistent with the allegations, the said doctor was quick to state that that does not exclude the possibility of sodomy, especially that the medical examination was conducted on the duo 10 days after they were found having anal sex.

Magistrate Mumba explained that by the mere fact that the two accused persons opted to remain silent in their defence meant that the court’s duty was to draw reference to the evidence adduced by the prosecution witnesses because the court could not start to speculate what the accused persons wanted to say in their defence.

He stressed that “the law is what it is and not what it ought to be.”

The resident magistrate added that the prosecution team had proved its case beyond any reasonable doubt, saying he was convicting the two men as charged.

For this reason, Magistrate Mumba then committed Chataba and Sambo to the High Court for sentencing as the magistrate’s court has no jurisdiction to pass sentence in an offence where people are alleged to have engaged in homosexuality.

Defence counsel Libati then followed the convicted men to the holding cells where he conferred with them.

Libati had “no comment” on the outcome of the case when approached by members of the press.

On August 25, 2017 Chataba and Sambo were found by members of the public at a named Lodge in Kapiri Mposhi having sexual intercourse against the order of nature.

Republican President Edgar Lungu has congratulated his Zimbabwean counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa on his re-election as President following the July 30th 2018 elections.

In a letter of congratulations yesterday, President Lungu said Mr. Mnangagwa election victory is a true testament of the confidence bestowed in him by the Zimbabwean people to steer the nation on a path of economic, political and social prosperity.

“I wish to convey on behalf of the government and the people of Zambia and indeed on my own behalf, heartfelt congratulations to President Mnangagwa on his election, President Lungu said.

The President says Zambia and Zimbabwe are key members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and are therefore very crucial to the stability of the region.

Meanwhile. President Lungu has urged the Democratic Republic of Congo ( DRC ) authorities to ensure that the on-going electoral process was all-inclusive so that the outcome of the December 23, 2018 lections delivers a credible outcome that must unite the country.

As a friendly neighbor and in-coming Chair of the Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security, Zambia is working with others in the region to help enhance prospects of a peaceful and credible electoral process in the DRC.

According to the same statement, the Republican President met with the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Executive Secretary Dr. Stergomena Tax yesterday who briefed him on the regional security situation and his role as Chair of the SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Security, and Defence which he assures on August 17, 2018.

The Organ Troika oversees among others election observation missions’ among member states.

Dr. Tax is hopeful that authorities in Zimbabwe would pursue civil means to address any disagreements arising out of the just ended elections.

On the DRC, she stated that SADC is monitoring the electoral process and that President Joseph Kabila has given assurances that he will respect the Constitution which does not allow him to run for another term of office.

Chembo’s Buildcon target historic win over Warriors

Buildcon host Kabwe Warriors on Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola seeking their debut league win over the Railwaymen.

The ambitious Ndola side have never beaten Warriors since they made their topflight debut in 2017 after collecting three successive draws.

However, Buildcon came close to breaking that record last April but squandered a 5th minute away lead in Kabwe to finish 1-1 with Warriors.

Buildcon are currently eighth on 37 points but a win will not change their status on the log because they are currently six points behind seventh placed Warriors with thirteen games left to play.

“We have to dig deep. It won’t be easy because Warriors are having a good run and enjoying good form despite their recent losses,” Buildcon coach Tenant Chembo said.

Warriors have struggled in their last four games collecting just two points during coach Tennant Chilumba’s absence when he was overseeing the Zambia U17 teams 2018 COSAFA U17 Cup campaign in Mauritius.

“Their record overall has seen them doing well so it is important we remain focused on the job at hand,” Chembo said.

“We are in the middle of a very competitive period and it is an important game for both sides,” Chembo added.

“It is important in the since that we are playing at home and we have to take the initiative.”

Nkana hope to improve on their poor home record this season when they host struggling Napsa Stars at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

Fourth placed Nkana beat Napsa Stars 2-1 away in Lusaka on April 28 to collect one of seven away league wins in the 2018 season in which time they have recorded just one defeat from thirteen matches on the road.

However, Nkana’s home run has not been that great with six wins, five defeats and two draws.

And Nkana are currently fourth on 45 points ,13 points behind leaders Zesco United with thirteen games left before the contest for the top four continental places are settled.

“Napsa are not a bad side but a good side. We are just looking forward to collecting maximum points. The team is starting to gel. We are not expecting a draw but expecting a win since it will be a home game,” Nkana assistant coach Manfred Chabinga said.

“As you are aware, results at home have not been good, we have been struggling.”

The bright side of things is that Nkana have collected four points at home with a 2-2 draw against National Assembly and a 3-0 thumping of Lumwana Radiants.

Victory this weekend will either keep Nkana fourth if third placed Green Eagles win on the same date at home against Kitwe United.

Nkana have 45 points, two behind Eagles.
