Dr Nguleka, 47, died in Lusaka in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Intensive Care Unit around 16:30 hours after being admitted on Wednesday.

ZNFU President Jervis Zimba confirmed the death of Dr Nguleka in an interview adding that full details of the funeral will be issued as soon as the family agrees on them.

“Yes, I can confirm that Dr Nguleka has died. She died this afternoon at UTH after an illness.

However, further details will be availed once the family has sat to discuss but as you are aware, she just passed,” he said.

UPND is planning big, silence does not mean we have problems -GBM

Running Mate GBM addressing the press conference
The UPND is planning big, UPND vice-president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has revealed.

In an interview at Moba Hotel in Kitwe yesterday, Mr Mwamba said that the UPND’s silence should not make people think that the largest opposition party had problems.

Instead, Mr Mwamba stressed that the party was doing underground work and planning big such that even the media could not know its plans.

He said that the UPND was intact and had not lost any members, alleging that if members had left the party, they could only be two or three.

And the UPND vice-president said that street vendors who were being removed from the streets of major towns on the Copperbelt were paying a price for deciding to vote for the PF despite UPND assuring them that if voted into government, they would not have done so.

He said the UPND had no such plans of removing street vendors from the city corridors of Kitwe.

“During campaigns, we told the streets vendors that if voted into government, we would not remove them from the city
corridors, but they decided to vote for PF. So those who have been removed from the corridors are paying a price for voting for PF. “Just like the illegal miners called Jerabos, they are also paying a price for supporting the PF in the run-up to the August 11 elections. We told them ‘let us work together’, but they refused,” Mr Mwamba said.

And UPND Copperbelt provincial information and publicity secretary Kennedy Kalunga has said UPND would continue to provide checks and balances to the ruling PF despite the harassment they were receiving from the State police.

Mr Kalunga said it was sad that whatever statement the UPND leadership issued, the police regarded it to be seditious and they were made to appear before the courts of law.

He said each time UPND leaders appeared in court, UPND supporters were stopped from attending to follow the court proceedings.

“However we are not going to be intimidated by this behaviour of police officers who have reduced themselves to PF cadres, but we will continue to provide checks and balances to the PF and tell them how they are waffling,” Mr Kalunga said.

The ruling Patriotic Front is against subjecting the review of the amended Republican Constitution to public opinion

PF Deputy Spokesperson Frank Bwalya says taking back to the people the process of cleaning up the Constitution will be costly.

Mr. Bwalya states that the ruling PF believes that the review of the country’s supreme law should be left to Parliament alone.

In an interview with QTV News, Mr. Bwalya says the PF is comfortable with the Parliamentary route considering that Parliament has the powers to review the Constitution.

Mr. Bwalya notes that as far as the ruling party is concerned, the review of the Constitution in this case is only about identifying provisions that need to be harmonized.

He states that these are the provisions the Zambian people have already identified as evidenced during the campaigns for the 2016 general election.

The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) on the proposed construction of the shopping Mall near St. Mary’s High school in Lusaka has been held with the Catholic Bishops reiterating that the revenue from the project will help support the Catholic Church continue offering better education in Zambia.

Speaking on behalf of Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) President Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu, ZCCB Secretary General Fr. Cleophas Lungu said the church wants to move into integral evangelisation.

“The church wants to move quickly, towards an integral evangelisation. It will continue to support education, health programmes and apostolates, continue to its pastoral programs but in order to do all these church needs money,” Fr. Lungu said.

Fr. Lungu said the Church has continued to contribute to the development of the nation through many sectors of which schools run by the Catholic Church continue to record high passing rates.

“The average performance of Catholic schools in the just release grade 12 results in all dioceses was over 75%,” he noted.

Fr. Lungu emphasised that to maintain such good results the Church needs money.

“The missionaries came with money. The help to the church from Europe or America has reduced. 125 years later, the inflow of support in the missionary land like Zambia is very little. We are very grateful for the support we receive, but I am here also to challenge ourselves as Catholics. How much are we supporting our institutions,” the ZCCB Secretary General said.

He said the dwindling resource has prompted the Bishops find alternative sources of income to support education and other projects they are involved in.

“The Church wants to find resources that can be ploughed back into other schools. St. Mary’s is lucky because it is surrounded by people who can afford. The Bishops want to support other Catholic education institutions from the resources that shall be realised from such venture,” he emphasised.

Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) held St. Mary’s High school on 4th February, 2017 attracted parents, civil society organisations and other interested parties.

Parents have expressed reservations to the construction of a Shopping Mall near St. Mary’s Girls High school for fear that it will have a negative social-moral impact on the girl child education.

The public hearing on the Environmental and Social Impact was organised by Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) to get views from the public on the proposed construction of a Shopping Mall on a vacant Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) land near St. Mary’s High School.

The Catholic Bishops of Zambia have proposed to lease land to a developer who plans to build a shopping mall on the said land.

Lusaka Province Minister Japhen Mwakalombe says there was need for households to initiate tree planting activities at household levels.

Mr. Mwakalombe said this is because trees have multiple benefits for respective homes such as offering shades and climate change control, among others.

The minister said this during the launch of the provincial tree planting exercise at Mponda village in Chongwe district today and held under theme: advancing the role of natural regeneration in forest restoration.

The provincial minister revealed that government had provided some mechanisms to alleviate the suffering of the people at household level through the tree planting exercise which is aimed at increasing the forestry cover.

Mr Mwakalombe disclosed that government has collaborated with Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to promote community empowerment through the green jobs project.

He said explained that the green jobs project has resulted in the financing of the planting of 108 trees for three local farmers in Chongwe district.

The lawmaker further said the fruits that the trees will bear will be traded and consumed at household hence increasing the nutrition for the people.

Copperbelt Minister Bowman Lusambo has said that he supports the decision by Mayors of Kitwe and Chingola to remove street vendors.

Speaking on Friday in Kitwe when he featured on a live radio programme on Yar FM’s Social Chatter radio programme, Mr Lusambo said that he wants to be a Minister of a clean province and not a disorganized province.

“I am in support but we should not allow our people stranded. No street vendor who has been removed from the streets should be left stranded. We want to give them decent trading places. Street vending is everywhere including in the UK and the US.”

He vowed that Copperbelt towns will be the cleanest towns in Zambia adding that he is supporting this crusade against vending and urged other Mayors to emulate what Mayors of Kitwe and Chingola have done.

And Mr Lusambo has vowed to change the face of the Copperbelt Province through the implementation of all developmental projects.

Mr Lusambo said the Copperbelt Province will never be the same as the PF administration is committed to fulfilling its campaign promises.

He said as Copperbelt Minister, he has a good team of leaders across all the town districts that will foster development.

He said Ndola city will soon benefit from a billion-dollar water and sanitation improvement project which will see about 18 Kilomentres of the sewer line in Masala township rehabilitated.

Mr Lusambo promised that challenges of water and sanitation will in the next few months be a thing of the past.

He said another US$450 million water project being implemented by Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company will see water blues in Mpongwe, Luanshya, Masaiti and Ndola rectified.

Mr Lusambo also stated that the construction of the $394 million greenfield Copperbelt International Airport is a major infrastructure development project which will create 3,000 jobs.
He said government is also planning to set up an industrial park within the vicinity of the Copperbelt International Airport.

“The appointments show that President Lungu has a heart for Zambia and he is planning for development way beyond his tenure of office. The recent appointment of Mr Elias Kamanga as Permanent Secretary is such good example. We welcome this appointment and I know we will work very well with Mr Kamanga, the Kitwe District Commissioner Beenwell Mpundu, the Kitwe Mayor and all the Mayors across the Province,” Mr Lusambo said.
