B Flow rescinds his Kalindula dream

B-Flow

B FLOW, who recently announced that he was changing from dancehall to kalindula because he wanted to be original, has gone back on his decision saying his fans have been complaining.
This is a complete turn-around for the man who a fortnight ago said the decision to go the kalindula way was final.
In his own words: “I wish to announce to all my fans and followers that I have officially changed my music style from Dancehall to Kalindula because I want to be original. This decision is final. I urge you to carefully listen before you begin criticising. Without wasting your time, here are my two new Kalindula singles – Tekwesha Ft. Chef 187 and Veli Badi (produced by Henrik Berhane for Zedway movements).”
Now, he says fans have been complaining that they still want him to do dancehall, hence his quick turn-around.
“My fans have been complaining and lamenting that they don’t want me to do Kalindula because they want that dancehall fire in me to continue burning,” he says.
“Well, I’m sorry to abort Kalindula prematurely, so I’m officially back on the dancehall tip. Who am I to deny mi fan dem weh dem ask for? Meanwhile, look out for my new dancehall album produced by Magg 44 and Jerry Fingers”.
It was always going to be intriguing if not interesting to see how B’flow, who got recognition from President Obama for using music for social good, was going to make the transition from dancehall to kalindula.
The two genres are quite distinct, but a creative person can always play around with them.
While dancehall is some kind of digitalised version of raggamuffin reggae, influenced by hip-hop, which it combines with, kalindula has its roots in Luapula Province and has to be played with atleast two lead guitars, a bass guitar, percussion and drums.

Father Bwalya teases Nawakwi over claims of her possible arrest

The ruling PF has said that it looks forward to seeing FDD President Edith Nawakwi arrested as she recently claimed that the government is plotting to put her behind bars for helping farmers.

PF Central Committee chairperson for information Frank Bwalya said that if Ms. Nawakwi does not get arrested, she should also be honorable enough to apologize for her claims.

Father Bwalya said that the apology should be made to the Zambian people because her accusation, which has been widely publicized would have proved to be falsehood.

In an interview with Qfm News Father Bwalya said that his party does not think a citizen can be arrested for simply campaigning outside the campaign time in the disguise of helping farmers with farming inputs.

Father Bwalya stated that the ruling PF is thus suspicious that there could something that Ms. Nawakwi is doing illegally in her business of helping farmers which she fears the police might arrest her for.

Father Bwalya said that it was however up to the Police itself to ascertain whether she should arrested or not and not by the instigation of the PF government.

Meanwhile, Zambians have been called upon to pray for the success of President Edgar Lungu’s assenting to the Constitution Bills on Tuesday the 5th of January this week.

People in the Country are being urged to do so keeping in mind how big the event to assent to the Constitution Bills will be in the life of their Country’s multiparty Democracy.

The ruling PF is of the view that President Lungu assenting to the Bills at a ceremony to be held at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka is therefore an event that any Zambian should want to be part of.

PF Central Committee chairperson for Information Frank Bwalya says his party believes that once the amendments to the Constitution come to effect, many things will change in Zambia.

Father Bwalya has referred to governance, politics and the rate at which the country will be developing as some of the things that are expected to change.

He states that his party is thus looking forward to Tuesday this week when the wave change in the country will be initiated.

President Edgar Lungu U-Turns on new Electricity Tariffs

President Edgar Lungu has directed ZESCO and the Energy Regulation Board to adjust downwards its new electricity tariffs following numerous complaints from many domestic users.

The directive marks a complete u-turn on President Lungu who just last month called on Zambians and the business community to embrace the new electricity tariffs.

President Lungu said this when he commissioned the Pensulo-Kasama 330 kilovolts transmission project in Kasama district on December 16 2015 adding that the new tariffs will guarantee meaningful investment and improvements in service delivery in the energy sector.

But through his Spokesman Amos Chanda, President Lungu on Sunday directed ZESCO to cut the new tariffs.

Mr Chanda said President Lungu will examine other ways of encouraging investment in the sector that has suffered stagnated growth due to relatively low tariffs compared to other countries in the region.

“The President wants Zambians to know that he is here to make decisions that will unite Zambia and not breed discontent,” Mr. Chanda said

He said the electricity tariffs reduction is something President Lungu felt had to be done expeditiously until economic alternatives to generate power and encourage investment in the sector are found because Zambians come above economic gains.

Chief Mutondo of the Nkoya people disowns Wynter Kabimba

IT is not true that I directed my subjects to support Rainbow Party leader Wynter Kabimba in the 2016 general elections as reported by some sections of the media, says Chief Mutondo of the Nkoya people.

Chief Mutondo cautioned politicians visiting his chiefdoms not to drag traditional leaders into politics because they (chiefs) welcomed everyone regardless of their political affiliation.

He said as much as his chiefdom supported the Government of the day, that did not give guarantee to all the politicians to take advantage of them.

“At no time did I tell my people here that they should support the Rainbow Party for me to be senior chief, it is sad that politicians want to politicise everything and propagate things that could not be achieved,” he said.

Chief Mutondo was speaking to the Sunday Nation in a telephone interview though his Ngambela Mwanashiheni, Derrick Moyo.

“Politicians visiting the palace should not expect us tell them whether they are supported by the chief, because we welcome everyone who pays a courtesy call, and to say that we are supporting Mr Kabimba is not true and this should be avoided at any cost,” he said.

Chief Mutondo said his establishment was peaceful and preached unity, and that there was no way they could side with any political party when they were obliged to support the Government of the day.

He called for peace and unity, adding trying to drag traditional leaders into active politics was retrogressive to development.
The traditional leader said the policy of the royal establishment was to support the Government of the day in a bid to foster national development.

Chief Mwene Mutondo is alleged to have directed his subjects to support Mr Kabimba in 2016 general elections so that if the party won he could be crowned senior chief. The chief said such a statement should be retracted because it did not represent the Nkoyas but sabotaged the chiefdoms because of political propaganda.

Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda has assured that Zambia is still food secure despite low rainfall being recorded in most parts of the country.

Mr Lubinda observed that the Zambian Government will not allow any Zambian to starve in an event of a drought this rainy season.
He however stated that the northern parts of Zambia have been receiving normal rainfall so far.

Mr Lubinda hoped that the above normal rainfall recorded in places such as Muchinga and Northern and some parts of the Copperbelt could result in sufficient production of food crops to last till the next harvest.

He was speaking in Lusaka on Saturday when he addressed a PF General’s forum on the state of the agriculture sector.

‘The reports we are receiving as a Ministry is that the Northern parts are doing Ok so far with regard to rainfall recorded. I am not personally bothered with the dryness we are seeing in Lusaka because we will have sufficient food,’ Mr Lubinda said.

‘In any case, if we do have a drought, there is nothing that will stop this Government from importing food from neighbouring countries because Zambia has been exporting to most of its neighbours in the recent past, there is nothing shameful about importing food,’ Mr Lubinda said.

Mr Lubinda also lashed out at some civil society organisations accusing them of spreading alarming reports about the country’s food situation.

He said CSO’s should desist from alarming the public about the food situation by issuing what he called unverified reports.

President Lungu is wasteful-FDD

Forum for Democracy and Development spokesperson Antonio Mwanza stresses a point during the meeting to demand for the release of the draft Zambian constitution
File:Forum for Democracy and Development spokesperson Antonio Mwanza stresses a point during the meeting to demand for the release of the draft Zambian constitution

The opposition FDD has condemned President Edgar Lungu’s decision to sign the draft constitution at Heroes Stadium.

FDD Spokesman Antonio Mwanza says the decision to ferry the entire Executive arm of Government and several PF members to Heroes Stadium on Tuesday at a huge public cost to attend the signing ceremony is a sign of wastefulness and fiscal indiscipline.

‘How can a President who is presiding over a falling economy compounded with a ballooning fiscal and account deficit, a depreciating Kwacha and escalating inflation, a widening trade deficit and growing debt burden decide to waste millions of taxpayers’ money just to append a signature to a PF/MMD Constitution?

‘Why should all Executive Government operations come to a stand-still just for Mr Lungu to perform a 30 second stint of signing an Amended Bill? How callous and reckless will Mr Lungu ever be?

Mr Mwanza said it must be put clearly that Government will spend millions paying allowances to Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Ministers, the President and all other Constitution Office Holders who will attend the ceremony.

‘Don’t forget the millions of Kwachas that will be wasted on fuel, security, food and other logistics. Surely we have other urgent priority areas where we can prudently use these colossal sums of money we are wasting on pomp and splendour,’ he said.

The FDD Spokesman said it is clear that President Lungu does not care about saving the meagre state resources.

‘He doesn’t care about prudency. He knows nothing about frugality. Edgar Lungu only cares about his political survival,’ Mr Mwanza charged.

He accused President Lungu of wanting to use the signing of a piecemeal amended Constitution to gain political mileage.

‘The Constitution Bill Edgar Lungu will be signing on Tuesday is not a people driven Constitution but a PF/MMD doctored Constitution. The people’s submissions were raped and adulterated,’ he said.

Mr Mwanza said the fundamental clauses that would have guaranteed development and good governance were removed:

‘The Bill of Rights which would have guaranteed economic, social, political and cultural rights of citizens; The Mixed-Member Proportional Representation which could have enhanced the representation of women and youth in Parliament; Provincial Assemblies which could have ensured Decentralisation and devolution of both economic and political power; Appointment of Cabinet outside Parliament which was meant to ensure Separation of Powers and improved service delivery have all been deleted from the Constitution Bill.’

He said what President Lungu will be assenting to on Tuesday is nothing but a shell and betrayal of the people’s submissions.

‘However, President Lungu and his minions are trying so hard to hoodwink some gullible individuals into believing that Mr Lungu has delivered a people-driven constitution. What a farcade!’

He added, ‘And it’s not only the enormous amounts of money that will be wasted on Tuesday but numerous man-hours.’
‘Instead of Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, the President and all other senior government officials spending time in their offices attending to needs of the masses they will all be out there at Heroes Stadium attending to drama and comedy. What a waste!’

And Secretary to Cabinet Dr Roland Msiska has been sending unsolicited SMSs to Zambians on all the three mobile service providers inviting them to attend the signing ceremony on Tuesday.

‘You are invited to attend the assenting to the constitutional bill ceremony by his Excellency the President at Heroes stadium on Tuesday 5th January, 2016 at 14hrs,’ the message reads.

Zesco disappointed by National Team Manager

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

From: Zesco United Football Club
3rd January, 2016

REF: LUSEKELO KAMWAMBI’S OUTBURST

Zesco United would like to express its disappointment in National Team manager Lusekelo Kamwambi’s outburst on the transfer of striker Winston Kalengo to AC Leopards of Congo Brazzaville as reported in today 03rd January, 2016 editions of the Sunday Mail and Sunday Times of Zambia.

This is not the first time Kamwambi in his capacity is rushing to the media to condemn Zesco United, last May he accused us of refusing to release players even when he knew we had midweek games to play.

As a club, we do not deal with Kamwambi in any correspondence because there are senior and higher offices that we communicate to at the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), in this case the issue of Kalengo’s transfer has been discussed with the General Secretary, George Kasengele and the President Kalusha Bwalya who have the knowledge about the transfer and the efforts the club put in to stop Kalengo from travelling.

The two senior FAZ officials have at no time rushed to the media to condemn neither the player nor the club, so to us Kamwambi’s outbursts are baseless and he seems to be talking about a deal he has no or little knowledge about.

The Club did not want to go in details of the Kalengo transfer but since Kamwambi has gone to the press, we will lay down the facts as follows;

Before Kalengo travelled to Congo, he was granted permission to go and negotiate his transfer by the National Team and Zesco United coach George Lwandamina and immediately the deal was finalized the first person he called was the coach.

The head coach then called ZUFC team manager Mabvuto Banda and requested that Kalengo be removed from the CAF list because he had signed a new contract.

Upon signing the one year contract Kalengo was paid about USD 70,000 as signing fee and was offered a salary of about USD 10, 000, Kalengo then contacted the ZUFC to formalize his transfer since he had already made a decision to leave the club.

Prior to leaving, ZUFC had engaged Kalengo who had only two months left to his contract to revise his contract and add the following conditions;

-To give him a professional contract like foreigners at the club
-To give him permanent employment at Zesco Limited to sustain his future

Unfortunately both offers were turned down by Kalengo who said he wanted to look at other offers (from Saudi-Arabia which was only for four months and AC Leopards which he settled for) before making a decision, we wish to categorically state that no club from the South-African PSL or anywhere else gave Kalengo any offer.

It is quite surprising and disappointing that the National team technical bench led by George Lwandamina can condemn the Kalengo transfer when he travelled with the blessing and permission from the coach, it was in their power not to grant the player permission to travel for negotiations.

We wish to put it on record that as a club we put in our best negotiations with the player but unfortunately AC Leopards beat us to the conditions as the only consolation we had was to offer him permanent employment which he was not ready to take for now.

We hope that these utterances by Kamwambi do not have the blessings of FAZ because they have the capability of bringing the relationship of Zesco United and the Association in disrepute.

Kamwambi should realize that the club has come to the aid of FAZ at short notice because of the cordial relationship, for example Zesco has sacrificed the head coach to be at the National team while paying him his full salary and allowances as per his contract with the club and the use of the team bus and driver to transport visiting teams among other things.

We therefore feel undermined by the National team technical bench through Kamwambi’s utterances who should have just taken few steps to go to the coach’s room to get the full facts of the stated player transfer.

We wish to appeal FAZ to tame Kamwambi’s mouth as he is not the right person to be issuing statements on behalf the Association on matters he doesn’t understand on Zesco United. Kamwambi should learn to consult and get facts before running to the media to be seen as the intelligent one.

It is such people that are dragging the name of FAZ in the mud with their excitement.

We wish to thank the FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya and General secretary George Kasengele for handling the matter professionally and we hope to continue working cordially in the year 2016.

Only dialogue can resolve Barotseland issue- Mumba

Government has been advised against assuming that amendments made to the Country’s constitution will resolve the issue of the Barotseland Agreement of 1964.

Opposition MMD president Nevers Mumba does not believe the issue of the Barotseland Agreement will end by simply assenting to the Constitutional Bills that have been passed by Parliament.

Dr. Mumba is of the view that much as a Constitution is the guiding light of any nation it cannot take the place of dialogue which he says the issue of the Barotseland Agreement currently needs.

He has told Qfm News dialogue is the only solution there is to this issue and therefore must continue and heightened in order to harmonize with the Constitutional position.

And Dr. Mumba has confirmed his party’s attendance of the official assenting of the Constitution Bills by President Edgar Lungu on Tuesday the 5th of January this week.

He says as a political party that begun the constitution making process in the Country the MMD wants to see through the process reaching its conclusive end.

Dr. Mumba says this is despite it being a fact that the whole process of constitution making will not be complete even after the assenting to the Constitution Bills.

He states that the hope of the former ruling party is, however that, other political parties will realize that this process is a non partisan issue.

Kitwe Resident beat up Drunk Police Officer manning Police Station

13

zambiaPolicelogo
Some irate Kitwe residents this morning beat up a police officer suspected to have been drunk, while manning Chimwemwe police post.

This was after one of the residents in Chimwemwe had gone to the police post to report a case, however the police officer could not attend to the matter, as he was allegedly drunk.

Lillian Kalaba reports from Kitwe that an eye-witness told the ZNBC news crew that rushed to the police post, that the armed officer was found sleeping and one of the residents grabbed the fire-arm from the officer and slapped him.

A fight then ensued between the residents and the police officer, who in the process threw a tear-gas canister at the crowd.

Suspects who were detained in the cells were also chocked in the process.

The News crew also found the police post engulfed in tear-gas smoke, as the suspects were being transferred to Mindolo police station, after officers from other stations intervened.

Efforts to get a comment from Mindolo Police Officer-In-Charge, and Copperbelt Police Commissioner, Joyce Kasosa proved futile by broadcast time.

Meanwhile Kitwe District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe has appealed to the Police command on the Copperbelt to arrest the increasing levels of indiscipline among police officers in the district.

Mr. Kabwe said it is unfortunate that a police officer who is supposed to be safe guarding human life at Chimwemwe police could behave in such a manner.

He said the Officer who has since been detained will be discharged from service if it is established that he was drunk while on duty.

Mr. Chanda said Government will not tolerate the levels of indiscipline and called for responsibility from all those charged with the responsibility of saving the public.

The incident comes barely a week after another police officer who is suspected to have been drinking hit into a woman and killing her baby.

The woman is recovering at Kitwe Central Hospital.

Zesco United fire salvo at Kamwambi

2

Zesco United have reacted angrily to Chipolopolo team manager Lusekelo Kamwambi’s questioning the clubs’ timing and decision to sell Zambia striker Winston Kalengo to AC Leopards of Congo-Brazzaville.

Kalengo told Sunday press that Zesco should have delayed Kalengo’s transfer and questioned why the player was sold to a nation Zambia will face this March in a crucial 2017 africa Cup groyp E qualifier doubleheader.

“As a bench, we discussed this and we feel let down because not only were we relying on Winston to help the team win CHAN but also that we are going to play a crucial match in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against a country where he has gone. If for some reason he doesn’t get enough game time, it will be an advantage to Congo,” Kamwambi was quoted in the Sunday press.

In reaction, Zesco spokesperson Katebe Chengo said: “Zesco United would like to express its disappointment in National Team manager Lusekelo Kamwambi’s outburst on the transfer of striker Winston Kalengo to AC Leopards of Congo Brazzaville as reported in today 03rd January,2016 editions of the Sunday Mail and Sunday Times of Zambia.

President Edgar Lungu has called on the church to continue praying for the nation ahead of the 2016 general elections.

President Lungu says the church has a vital role to play in preserving peace, love and harmony.

The President was speaking during Mass at Saint Regina Catholic Church in Chawama Constituency in Lusaka.

President Lungu also encouraged the church to continue engaging government on various governance issues.

The President has however, urged all those aspiring for the country’s leadership to put God first.

And Saint Regina Catholic Church parish priest, Steven Mwape said Christians must promote love and unity.

Father Mwape said forgiveness, love and reconciliation must be practiced this year.

He however, implored government to consider educating Zambians more on the hike in electricity tariffs and constitution making process.

And 12-year-old Dorothy Ngwira who preached during the service called on the nation to seek God’s face for the sake of peace, love and harmony.

Dorothy who stunned the congregants with her preaching said Zambians should be role models if peace and love is to be nurtured and sustained in the country.

Davies Chama calls on Zambians to embrace love, peace and unity in 2016

Davies Chama being welcomed at a PF mobilization event

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Secretary General Davies Chama has called on Zambians to embrace love, peace and unity in 2016.

And Mr Chama says every Zambian should condemn hate speech that seems to have taken root in the political circles.

In an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Chama said it is important for Zambians to remain united and desist from peddling lies.

He said the PF will continue to stand on its principles of transformational leadership and accelerated development.

“Without peace, we cannot achieve and attain the Zambia we want and dream of. But with unity and love, we can go far,” he said.

Mr Chama said peace will only be achieved through individual and collective efforts and that in the New Year, Zambians must embrace the ideals of peace.

“Shun practices that will lead to the disintegration of the family unit, which is the foundation of any country. Family unity is critical because without it, the Church and the country cannot function well,” he said.

“It is a shame that in a country like ours that is endowed with natural resources, our people are still wallowing in poverty. We believe that if we can work together and desist from regionalism and tribal politics this year, we can find possible alternatives on how to improve the lives of our people,” he said.

Mr Chama has advised Zambians not to be misled by selfish politicians with intentions to enrich themselves.

“If our leaders who worked tirelessly to liberate our country against colonialism were preaching politics of hate and tribe, we wouldn’t have attained this freedom we are enjoying. Let’s not put the peace of our country at risk because our children need to grow,” he said.

Mr Chama said hate speech is dangerous because words have power and can influence others to act without making an informed decision.

Hate speech promotes division and intolerance; it harms and marginalises the vulnerable groups, who are usually the victims.

“We are in an election year and as Zambians, we should ensure that what we do or say promotes love and unity and should be opposed to violence,” Mr Chama said.

Ngande Mwanajiti hails President Lungu for Marketeers Loans

19

Human Rights Activist, Ngande Mwanajiti, says President Edgar Lungu’s initiative to come up with financial grants to support marketeers across the country is a move in the right direction.

Mr Mwanajiti says marketeers in the country have been facing a lot of problems in terms of accessing loans for their businesses due to lack of collateral.

He said this in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday adding that the move should be supported by all the marketeers and well-meaning Zambians.

Mr Mwanajiti also urged marketers to put to good use the loans in order to grow their businesses for the benefit of their families.

And Mr Mwanajiti has disclosed that he has no political ambition to contest as Member of Parliament in this year’s elections.

He said the right time will come for him to vie for a political seat because he has every right to do so as a Zambian citizen.

Mr Mwanajiti said as a strong supporter of the Patriotic Front (PF) he will remain committed to campaigning for President Edgar Lungu during this year’s elections so that he could continue developing the nation for the well -being of Zambians.
