Today’s Message: Unhindered Prayers

15

bible

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“…Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.”
(1 Peter 3:7, NLT)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Did you know that the way you treat people has an impact on the effectiveness of your prayers? The Bible says that the prayer of the righteous person is powerful. But if we aren’t treating others with honor, kindness and respect, then we aren’t allowing His righteousness to operate in us.

When we don’t treat others the way we should, it closes the door to God’s power and hinders our prayers.

This is especially true in a marriage relationship. Marriage isn’t just an agreement between two people to live life together. Marriage is a God-ordained institution that helps us understand love and unity. When two people are married, they become one physically, spiritually and emotionally.

This particular passage is directed toward husbands, but it applies to all believers as well. We should all treat others “with understanding,” which means considering the needs of others above our own. We should always aim to treat others with kindness, dignity, and respect and quickly choose forgiveness.

The Bible says that the way we treat others is the way we treat God. So choose love and treat others with respect so that your prayers will not be hindered!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, teach me to live in Your ways. Help me to always treat others with love and respect, which shows that I honor You. Show me how to be a blessing to others so that my prayers will be effective in Jesus’ name. Amen.

10-man Nkana draw at Eagles

3

Ten-man Nkana finished scoreless away to Green Eagles on Saturday.

The beleaguered 12-time champions were reduced to ten men after goalkeeper Scott Ngokane was red carded in the second half.

Ngokande was sent off in the 68th minute after allegedly insulting referee Stanley Hachiwa when he ignored an suspected offside call by Eagles.

However, Ngokane’s dismissal was compounded by the fact that Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi had exhausted all his substitutes forcing him to field winger Shadreck Musonda as goalkeeper.

Nkana drop from 9th to 10th after the draw.

Elsewhere, Zanaco stayed in command of the table after a 4-0 home win over Napsa Stars at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

Ziyo Tembo, Mathews Macha, Henry Banda and Salulani Phiri were on target in the 19th, 32nd, 40 and 52nd minutes respectively.

The result has left Napsa coach Hector Chilombo in the line of fire after losing three successive games, failing to score in each of them and conceding nine goals.

And at Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola, Zesco United are second after a hard-fought-for 3-2 home win over Red Arrows.

Jackson Mwanza scored the opener in the 1st minute before Winston Kalengo made it 2-0 in the 19th minute.

Francis Kombe scored his fourth goal of the season in the 31st minute to put Arrows back in the hunt and Festus Mbewe equalised in the 52nd minute.

However, Humphrey Maseneko rescued Zesco with the winning goal in the 85th minute.

Zesco are now three points behind Zanaco on 11 and 14 points respectively.

Mighty make lucky Power Dynamos work for draw

7

Mighty Mufulira Wanderers made a memorable return to visit old enemy Power Dynamos in Kitwe on Saturday whom they made to work overtime for a fortunate draw at Arthur Davies Stadium.

Mighty were all over Power in the opening ten minutes of the first half at an overflowing Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

They took a deserved lead in the 4th minute when Moses Nyambe pounced on a loose ball after Joel Kanyeba had spilt Lameck Silwaba initial shot.

Power however could not find a route passed Mighty’s goalkeeper Joshua Manjongo who was filling in for Mulife Sitali who has Malaria.

Manjongo denied efforts from Larry Bwalya in the 14th and Lwipa three time during the course of the match.

Relief for Power came in the 72nd minute when Jimmy Ndhlovu hammered in a pass from Richard Kasonde to calm coach Tennant Chilumba’s nerves.

But Power were lucky not to lose the game in the 87th minute when Jacob Ngulube’s effort came off the post then hit the line and then cleared back into play.

The draw came just four days after Power were beaten 1-0 away by leaders Zanaco to end their brief reign at the top of the table and see the latter take charge.

Chief Mbuluma urges government to urgently open mine in Luangwa

9

Senior Chief Mbuluma of the Nsenga Ludzi people of Luangwa district in Lusaka province has called on government to expedite the process of opening up a mine in his Chiefdom.

Senior Chief Mbuluma appealed to Mr. Mwaliteta to lobby from government and ensure that all issues surrounding the opening of the mine in Luangwa are speedily resolved in order to create employment for his subjects.

The Senior Chief said this when Lusaka Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Luangwa district yesterday.

Senior Chief Mbuluma commended government for the various developmental projects that were currently being undertaken adding that the tarring of the 77 km stretch of the Feira road has greatly eased the movement of his subjects from Lusaka to Luangwa district.

“I’m happy that government has tarred the Feira road which was in a deplorable state, this is an indication that your government cares for the people of Luangwa district. My request which you should take to the President is let his government quickly consider opening the mine in my Chiefdom. There is already an investor who wants to open a mine here so that my subjects can get employment, “Senior Chief Mbuluma said.

He further commended government for connecting his Chiefdom to the national power grid saying the move will boast economical activities in Luangwa district as a whole.

“Honourable Minister, I’m so glad and humbled by your visit, your government has always responded to our needs when we our faced with hunger and human-animal conflict. I wish you well as you work in Lusaka province as our minister.” he added

And Mr. Mwaliteta assured the traditional leader that government will involve all relevant stakeholders in dialogue and ensure that a solution concerning the opening of the mine is found in an amicable manner.

He stated that government under the able leadership of President Edgar Lungu was committed to working with all traditional leaders all the time.

Mr Mwaliteta who is on a 14 day tour of Lusaka province was accompanied to Luangwa by senior staff from the Provincial administration.

Kasiya secretarial college urged to include ICT teacher education

3

Southern Province Provincial Education Officer Steven Chishiko has directed Kasiya Secretarial and Business College in Pemba district to include in their short courses curriculum the Information and communication Technology (ICT) teacher education methodology component.

Mr Chishiko said colleges in Zambia including Kasiya were faced with a challenge of satisfying the country’s human resource needs adding that the global demand for efficiency and effectiveness in technology use called for continuous training, retraining and upgrading of human resource.

Speaking yesterday during a farewell graduation ceremony for short intensive program students at Kasiya College, Mr Chishiko said considering the quality of students the college was producing since its inception in 1972, his office was convinced that Kasiya was well positioned for the task of training teachers to face the challenge of ICT head-on especially that this year schools would be writing their first examination in ICT.

He said the Patriotic Front-PF administration had rolled out two career pathways for which included ICT courses to be taught from pre-school to tertiary education in order to prepare and empower youths with much needed skills for employment.

He urged the students to value their hard earned training and have the best work culture in their institutions.

And speaking at the same function, Kasiya College Principal White Chisi assured the delegation that his institution would continue to impart the best skills in its students and maintain the tertiary education standards in order to meet the nation’s human resource needs.

And speaking earlier, Pemba District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Mary Sifuniso said she was proud of Kasiya College being in her district because of its grade one standards as most of the its products were absorbed in both private and public sectors.

Government says it is proud with the performance of Zambian peacekeepers who have worked with the United Nations and the African Union in various missions world over.

Deputy Minister of Defence Christopher Mulenga said owing to their professionalism and good discipline, Zambian peacekeepers have been highly rated.

Mr Mulenga also commended the defence wings for working together in maintaining the peace that the country is currently enjoying without which development could be a farfetched dream.

Mr Mulenga said this in Lusaka today at the send-off parade of the first batch of troops forming part of the Zambian battalion being deployed to the Central African Republic on United Nations stabilisation mission-MINUSCA.

The Deputy Minister of Defence said it was gratifying that as a member of the international community Zambia has once again been called upon to assist towards the attainment of peace and stability in that country.

He cautioned the officers to carry out their mandate impartially and to understand and interpreter the latest development in that in their correct context.

Mr Mulenga urged the officers against getting entangled in the politics of the host country.

Meanwhile, Mr Mulenga has commended the American government through the American Embassy in Zambia in conjunction with United States Army Africa command for their invaluable support to the Zambian troops.

He said the support rendered to the troops as they were preparing for the peacekeeping task in form of training and equipping them demonstrated the importance the American government attached to international peace and security.

And Army Commander Lieutenant General Paul Mihova said he was optimistic that the troops have met the required standard needed for them to operate in the fluid mission in the Central Africa Republic.

Lt. Gen Mihova explained that during the pre-deployment training, special emphasis was placed on the concept of operations and the MINUSCA mandate.

He advised the troops to maintain the highest standard and core military values of good discipline to safeguard and enhance the good image of the country’s defence force and the country at large.

Lusaka Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta has urged civil servants in Rufunsa district to be patriotic and dedicated to their duties.

Mr. Mwaliteta said government was committed to addressing challenges that government workers were faced with in new districts hence the need for them to be dedicated to their work.

Speaking when he held a brief meeting with civil servants at the National assembly office in Rufunsa, Mr. Mwaliteta urged civil servants to be patriotic and offer their services to the people of Rufunsa in a nonpartisan manner.

Mr. Mwaliteta urged the civil servants to persevere for a while as government was working tirelessly to address challenges that government workers in new districts were faced with.

“I know the challenges that civil servants in new districts like Rufunsa are faced with. My coming here to Rufunsa is to give you hope that my government through Lusaka Province administration is working on modalities to address challenges that government workers in the province are faced with,”he explained.

Mr. Mwaliteta added that staff accommodation is one of the major challenge in Rufunsa.

Rufunsa District Education Board Secretary Peter Ndhlovu who spoke on behalf of the civil servants, said despite some challenges they were faced with, government workers in Rufunsa were working very hard because they wanted to leave a legacy.

“We are a motivated civil service because of government’s commitment to address our challenges. We want to leave a legacy as a people who started this district,” Ndhlovu stated.

And Mr. Mwaliteta has called on the Mpanshya Royal establishment of the Soli people of Rufunsa to quickly resolve the land disputes with the local authority because government was in a hurry to develop Rufunsa district.

Mr Mwaliteta said Rufunsa district council and the traditional leadership in the district need to quickly resolve outstanding land disputes in order to pave way for the construction of the district administration block and civic centre in the district.

JANUARY 2015 – APRIL 2015

Today marks 90 days since President Edgar Lungu was inaugurated. With elections due in 2016 President Lungu is already 3 months into a presidency that will be put to the vote in the next 17 months. In these first 90 days we have seen that the PF Government’s priorities continue to be misdirected and that yet more opportunities for Zambia to move forward have been wasted.

Over the past 90 days Zambians have been hearing only of Government trips abroad and delays to infrastructure projects as a result of missing payments and corruption. Prices remain high and jobs remain scarce, the Kwacha has been labelled the worst performing currency in the world, and massive fuel shortages have hurt struggling families and Zambian businesses. Under President Lungu there appears to be a continuation of all the worst aspects of PF Government.

[pullquote]they must stop relying on borrowing large sums of money to fill gaps in financing that have resulted from their bad planning[/pullquote]
While President Lungu and his entourage have seemingly toured the world, travelling to Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Angola, South Africa,Namibia and China, and spent yet more money on holding expensive
by-elections, the wage and employment freezes have been maintained, our own healthcare system is falling apart, and we have university students selling tomatoes on the roadside.

The PF Government has also continued some of its more suspect practices under President Lungu, including abuse of the Public Order Act, intimidation and harassment of UPND supporters and gagging of the media. Meanwhile President Lungu continues to delay on the new constitution that the PF promised in 90 days back in 2011. We in the UPND are still counting the days and we are now at 1,310.

We urge the PF to quickly get back on track and focus their energies on the business of governing in the interests of the Zambian people. They must set out a vision for Zambia and quickly address the economic challenges we face so we can find the revenues to pay for much needed improvements in healthcare and education. The PF must put an end to the policy inconsistency that we have seen with both the retirement age matter and the mining taxation over the past 90 days. Such inconsistency is bad for business, and when businesses close jobs are lost not created.

Finally, they must stop relying on borrowing large sums of money to fill gaps in financing that have resulted from their bad planning.

Clearly, this is not the kind of leadership this nation needs. Together we can do better.

malawi boycott

South African-owned shops in Malawi have remained closed after calls for a boycott from activists angered at recent xenophobic attacks. In the commercial capital Blantyre, armed police guarded several leading South African chain stores.Several hundred Malawians have been evacuated from South Africa after the recent wave of xenophobic violence. At least seven people have been killed and 5,000 left homeless since the attacks started last month.

Consumer activist John Kapito, in the capital Lilongwe, said the aim of the boycott was “to send a symbolic message”.

[pullquote]“South Africans cannot chase us from their countries and expect us to help them grow their economy by patronising their shops and goods,” he said.[/pullquote]

Outlets of the popular South African PEP, Shoprite and Game stores were closed in all major cities across the country, reports the BBC’s Raphael Tenthani from Blantyre.

The Malawian government has faced criticism from activists over its decision to use South African rather than Malawian bus companies to evacuate citizens following the recent violence, our correspondent says.

But Information Minister Kondwani Nankhumwa defended the move:

“Looking at the urgency of the situation it could have taken a lot of time for Malawian buses to reach South Africa. Besides, the South African buses were cheaper,” he said.
Some 390 Malawians have already been repatriated from South Africa, with a further 500 expected to arrive later.

Transport Works Supply and Communications Minister Yamfwa Mukanga says government appreciates the contributions the European Union has done to the development of the road sector in Zambia.

Mr Mukanga said the contribution of the co-operating partner is one thing which Zambians greatly appreciates.

The Transport Works Supply and Communications Minister said this yesterday during the official launch of the capacity building to the road transport sector programme funded under the European Union development fund at Hotel Intercontinental in Lusaka.

Mr Mukanga said the transport sector in Zambia has faced a lot of challenges which need concerted efforts by government and co-operating partners.

He said the road sector in Zambia has experienced a 20 years focus on routine maintenance and rehabilitation of a core road network of 40, 113 km out of 67, 000 km of national road network.

He stated that the road sector demands a lot on money which needs huge contribution from government and other helpful co-operating partners like the European Union.

Mr Mukanga said government’s road programmes includes the Link Zambia 8000, pave Zambia 2000 and Lusaka 400 amongst others have increased the resource demands from the limited road sector resource development.

He said the objectives and aim of government is to increase market accessibility, reduced transit times, reduced transport costs and job creation and poverty alleviation for the Zambian people.

The Transport Works Supply and Communications Minister said government appreciates the number of projects and programmes which the European Union supports Zambia such as the Nacala Corridor development project and Luangwa Bridge to Mwami border.

Mr Mukannga thanked the European Union and urged them to continue with this good gesture which has been appreciated by the Zambian people including the establishment of the national Airline which will be established soon.

He said government is looking for the increased capital investment for Zambia Railways and Tanzania Zambia Railways to revamp their operations.

Mr Mukanka articulated that the role of the transport sector in Zambia is to facilitate social and economic development and growth and synergies with other economic sector.

And European Union Ambassador to Zambia Gilles Hervia said the European Union has so far contributed 36 Million Kwacha to the development of the road sector in Zambia.

Mr Hervia said the transport sector is most important in the development of any given nation, the reason why the European Union values the development of the sector.

He said the European Union so far has worked on the major road in Zambia such as the Monze- Zimba road, Kabwe –Kapiri-mposhi and Zimba- Livingstone roads respectively.

He added the European Union is geared to ensuring that necessary reforms and investment policy is achieved in the development of the road sector in Zambia.

Mr Hervia said the EU has contracted 15 companies to develop the road sector in Zambia which includes capable and reputable Zambian Contractors as well as the private sector contribution.

Parliamentary Committee bemoans inadequate bed spaces at Hospitals

1

THE Parliamentary Committee on Health has bemoaned inadequate bed spaces at Chipata General Hospital and St Francis Mission Hospital in Katete District in Eastern Province.

Committee Chairperson Likando Mufalali said that the two hospitals were overwhelmed with the number of patients due to the absence of district hospitals.

Mr Mufalali, who is also UPND Senanga Member of Parliament said when he visited the Chipata General Hospital on Thursday that the two hospitals were built along time ago for a smaller population.

He said there was need for district hospitals in Chipata and Katete in order to decongest the two health institutions.

“The Chipata General and St Francis Mission Hospitals are overwhelmed due to lack of enough bed spaces for patients. We need district hospitals in the districts,” he said.

Mr Mufalali said that there was need for the country to work extra hard to ensure that Millennium Development Goals(MDGs) number four, five and six were achieved.

Meanwhile Mumbwa MMD MP Dr Brian Chituwo said the executive should improve the health sector by putting a clear distinction between Ministry of Health and Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health.

Dr Chituwo observed that there was confusion between the two ministries in the handling of health matters.

Kaoma MP Carlos Antonio said there was need to put up more infrastructure developments for health in the country.

Chipata General Hospital acting Medical Superintendent Dr Mbinga Mbinga said that the hospital has recorded a high number of maternal deaths due to heavy bleeding by expectant mothers.

He said that in 2014, the hospital recorded an increase in maternal deaths from 0.7 to 0.9 per cent.

Dr Mbinga described the situation, which was also attributed to high blood pressure in pregnant women as worrying.

Meanwhile Dr. Mbinga revealed that the medical facility needs a backup generator and an emergency theatre in the maternity ward.

The parliamentary committee had comprised Kapiri Mposhi MP Eddie Musonda, Mangango MP Rodgers Lingweshi,Chikankata MP Munji Habeenzu and Mbala MP Mwalimu Simfukwe.

ZAM welcome President Lungu’s directive to retail Zambian-grown produce

3

THE Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) has welcomed President Lungu’s directive to supermarkets to retail Zambian-grown agricultural produce and other local products.

ZAM executive director Maybin Nsupila said in an interview yesterday that the directive is timely and will result in job creation for citizens.

Mr Nsupila said there is need to do more to ensure President Lungu’s directive is implemented.

“The investment protection agreement provides for the supermarkets to integrate the local suppliers but this does not usually happen,” Mr Nsupila said.

He also said there is need for the local people to know what is on demand and the quantity needed.

Mr Nsupila said the more foreign stocks are on the market, the more jobs are provided for foreigners thereby depriving the locals.

He challenged the supermarkets to work with local producers so that they can be integrated into the system.

“Some supermarkets demand that a local producer delivers their produce to all their outlets countrywide and this is not viable sometimes because it is too costly,” Mr Nsupila said.

He said local producers are producing good quality products which can sell well.
“I think there is need for all stakeholders to sit down and address all the issues so that this directive is viable,” he said.

On Thursday during the official opening of Mukuba mall in Kitwe, President Lungu directed all retail outlets to stock local products.
