Zambia and Zimbabwe have officially launched KAZA INIVISA at the ongoing ITB Tourism Fair in Berlin in German.

The launch was officiated by Zambia’s Tourism and Arts Minister Jean Kapata and Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Walter Kanhanga.

Speaking during the launch at the Zambian stand, Ms. Kapata said the governments of the two countries recognizes the benefits of having a common visa for facilitating ease movements for tourists from countries that require visas.

Ms. Kapata noted that Southern African countries within SADC had been calling for the creation of a more tourist friendly movement for tourists to travel across the boundaries.

She indicated that the effective visa facilitation which increases visitor presence and earnings for the industry was key to unlocking the growth of the tourism sector.

The Minister further noted that the Southern Africa region was endowed with natural, cultural, historical and adventure tourist products yet tourist arrivals had not been maximized.

Implementation of the KAZA UNIVISA pilot project would be conducted in a phased approach where only four entry points for each country will be issuing the visa.

The Minister of Tourism and Arts has since urged Germans to take advantage of the UNIVESA to visit Zambia and Zimbabwe.

This is contained in a statement issued to ZANIS yesterday by Embassy First Secretary for Press and Public Relations Yvonne Shibemba.

The Alliance for a Better Zambia has announced that it will back the ruling PF in the Chawama, Masaiti and Senga Hill by-elections.

Ms Shula said in a statement to today that the electoral pact which ABZ entered into with the PF has continued.

‘As such, our party will not put up candidates in the forthcoming parliamentary by-elections in Chawama, Masaiti and Senga Hill. Instead we shall rally behind the candidates that our alliance partner Patriotic Front will adopt,’ she said.

Ms Shula said all ABZ members including Party President Frank Bwalya will campaign for the PF candidates in the three constituencies.

She said she is sure that PF will adopt popular candidates who will not only add value to the line up of PF members of parliament but deliver development to their constituencies and strengthen the party.

President Edgar Lungu has called on a visiting Japanese business delegation to consider venturing into partnerships with Zambians who have vast understanding of the country.

And the Japanese government is expected to spend about US$32 billion on developmental projects in Zambia and other sub-Sahara African countries. This will be in additional to improving trade on the continent.

President Lungu said Zambians have a clear understanding of the local environment and cultural norms hence partnerships will give the Japanese investors a better head start.

Mr. Lungu told the Japanese delegation that the country has adequate incentives to attract investors to invest in various sectors.
He was speaking at State House today when he met a Japanese delegation.

The President said his government was open for dialogue whenever investors feel dissatisfied with the incentives.

Mr. Lungu said government wants to create an environment where Zambians will not just be workers but co-owners of businesses.

The President has also urged the delegation to explore other potential areas of investment apart from the traditional mining and agriculture.

He has assured them that Zambia was a good destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) because of the country’s observance of the rule of law and democracy as evidenced in the recently held presidential elections.

And Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Kiyoshi Koinuma told President Lungu that the mission was vital for strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

Mr. Koinuma stated that the mission follows talks between President Lungu and a representative of the Japanese government on the sidelines of the African Union meeting in Ethiopia early this year.

He said the Japanese government will continue with big projects in sub Saharan countries including Zambia in the next five year saying about US$32 billion is expected to be spent.

He said there was need to promote trade between Zambia and Japan besides the development assistance his country is providing.

He said the delegation’s focus was on energy, agriculture and mining which he said looks promising for investment in the country.

Mr. Koinuma has since reiterated his country’s continued support toward Zambia’s economic development.

The meeting was attended by President Lungu’s Advisor for Politics Kaiza Zulu, State House Permanent Secretary (PS) Emmanuel Chilubanama, Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary George Zulu and senior state house staff.

Kabimba was positioning himself for the party Presidency when Mr. Sata became sick – Kambwili

Patriotic Front National Youth Chairman Chishimba Kambwili has accused Rainbow Party President Wynter Kabimba of knowing something about late President Michael Sata’s death.

Mr Kambwili has told a media briefing at Parliament buildings this afternoon that Kabimba sidelined PF founding members and was positioning himself for the party Presidency when Mr. Sata became sick.

He said that Mr. Kabimba must have known something about Mr. Sata’s health because of his alleged sinister movements when he was still PF Secretary General.

Mr Kambwili said that the PF knows a lot of things about the former PF Secretary General and that he should not push the party into disclosing them.

He added that Mr.Kabimba should be the last person to condemn President Edgar Lungu when he appoints people outside the PF because even the late President Michael Sata did the same.

Meanwhile, Sunday Chanda described Rainbow President Wynter Kabimba as finished goods. In a statement released to the media, Mr Chanda Kabimba said that Mr Kabimba had no moral right to talk about matters within the PF because he was the chief architect of the confusion that followed the demise of President Michael Sata.

Zambians recall how Kabimba was unceremoniously fired as Secretary General of the PF and Minister of Justice. Mr Chanda further accused Mr Kabimba of stabbing the late President Sata in the back by forming parallel structures, the highest betrayal of confidence and trust.

“PF has come to terms with the fact that Kabimba is done and dusted, he is damaged goods,” said Mr Chanda.

Mr Chanda said that PF must build new alliances and it is cheap propaganda for anyone to create an impression that appointing Ministers from the Opposition has started with President Lungu.

Mr Chanda further added the following: ” Late Presidents Mwanawasa and Sata did it and only political damaged goods would have issues when President Lungu does the same. It is a fact that former President Rupiah Banda campaigned for President Lungu and PF even after Kabimba and his loyalists within PF remained determined to suffocate PF’s victory on 20th January 2015. Kabimba seems to have issues with President Lungu appointing new comers to positions in Government but Zambians know that he was not a founder member of the PF but was appointed Secretary General. If President Sata meant so much to Kabimba, he would not have shunned paying his last respects to a man he called his political father. Kabimba cannot therefore have the morality to call out the ‘men’ in PF to rebel against President Lungu when it’s a fact that himself is a political male and not a political man. Had he been a man, he would have not betrayed President Sata’s trust, resulting in his unceremonious firing.”

” Under President Lungu’s leadership, PF is re-grouping, re-organizing and re-launching. PF, under President Lungu is dealing with the collateral damage left behind by Kabimba. PF under President Lungu is celebrating the life of Comrade Michael Chilufya Sata who left us last year to join our ancestors after immense contribution to a country he loved so much. PF’s critics must prepare for a rude awakening as the Party becomes a stronger people’s movement and will govern Zambia for many years to come and deliver the poor from poverty.”

The Government of the Republic of Zambia has issued a circular waiving Visas and visa fees for all COMESA nationals on official business. Three other COMESA countries namely: Mauritius, Rwanda and Seychelles have also waived visas to all COMESA citizens.

This has been welcomed as progressive and paves the way for the implementation of the Protocol on Free Movement of Persons, Services, labour and Rights of Establishment and Residence in the region.

So far four countries (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Zimbabwe) out of the nineteen have signed the protocol of free movement of persons. Only Burundi has fully ratified.

“Although, we have not recorded new signatures and ratifications, a number of Member States have showed their strong commitment and promised to speed-up the process of signing and ratifying the protocol. The Government of the Republic of Zambia has sent an official letter which stated that the Protocol will soon be signed,’’ Immigration Officer at COMESA Secretariat Mr Houssein Guedi Absieh revealed in an interview.

Kenya and Rwanda are firm believers in regional integration, as one of the key solutions to attain development. The two countries are already fully complying with the COMESA Protocol on the Gradual Relaxation of visas and are applying most of the provisions of the Protocol on Free Movement of Persons, Services, Labour and Right of Establishment which has not yet entered into force. The two countries have promised to ratify the Protocol.

In 2012, the Fifth Meeting of COMESA Ministers Responsible for immigration took a decision that the Secretariat should play a proactive role in engaging in direct consultations with Member States towards implementation of the Protocol on free movement.

In view of this, the Immigration Unit at COMESA Secretariat obtained funding amounting to USD70,000 from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for a Task Force to conduct direct consultations with eight selected countries (Comoros, Djibouti, Kenya Malawi, Rwanda, Seychelles, Uganda and Swaziland). The Task Force undertook the said consultative mission between October and November 2013 and met with target Authorities with particular emphasis on Parliamentarians, Civil Societies, Ministries of Home Affairs, Immigration Department, Coordinating Ministries and Law Associations of each country.

Apart from raising awareness, the campaign aims at promoting the signing and ratifying the Protocol on Free Movement of Person, Service, Labour and Rights of Establishment and Residence as well as the full implementation of the Protocol on Gradual Relaxation of Visa Requirements.
