Renowned Film Director Maxwell Mwape Urges Local Actors to Maintain High Levels of Professionalism to Survive in the Industry

Renowned film director and script writer Maxwell Mwape has implored local actors to maintain high levels of professionalism if they are to survive in the emerging industry.

Mwape said from thousands of aspiring actors in Zambia only a few will ever make it as actors, and even fewer will perform beyond a low budget movie role or television appearance.

He has tipped actors on learning the craft, punctuality and commitment to work.

“There are thousands of aspiring actors in Zambia alone, each hoping for one big break that will launch their career. Only a few will ever make it as actors, and even fewer will perform beyond a low budget movie role or television appearance. So, what can you do to increase your chances of success? Realize that you have limited control over certain things, such as how you look in real life and how you sound, but there are steps you can take that can increase your chances of getting apart,” Mwape said.

“Learn your craft: Just like any art form, acting is a craft that can be improved continuously. Take acting classes, learn from other actors and mentors, and hone your craft. Many top-tier actors work with acting coaches to learn and refine their techniques. Never be late It might seem obvious, but promptness is crucial. Tardiness is a weakness that no director will tolerate because there are plenty of actors who will arrive hours early. Casting sessions typically last just a few minutes, and they are scheduled at odd times such as 7:25 a.m. or 6:50 a.m. on purpose to determine your reliability. Be early or don’t bother showing up. Patience weighs thin at a casting session, and few actions will hurt your chances more than being late,” Mwape stated.

“Memorize your lines: If you fail to learn your lines, you will not be hired. Spend time preparing your lines and your delivery. If you are well prepared, you will be less nervous and better able to perform. Do not rewrite lines, Just a few days back I sent a script to someone to memorize and recite it for me in front of the camera. Guess what? They changed and added their lines on that script. Never add your own words to what is written in the script. There’s no better way to offend a writer than to ad lib or to come up with your own lines. Your job as an actor is to deliver the written lines convincingly. If you think your own dialogue might be better, then become a writer please. Listen, you must demonstrate that you can take direction. Listen to what you are being told. Sometimes the Casting Director, Writer, or Director will give you some direction prior or during the audition, or during the audition for a particular line. Listen to what you are told and take the time you need to process it. If you are not sure what the director means, repeat the instructions back to the director for confirmation. During an audition, more often than not, a director will be happy to give you a few minutes to incorporate the new direction into the lines,” he continued.

On submitting an accurate headshot, Mwape said:”Your headshot should portray your true appearance. If you have gained weight, cut your hair, or are a few years older, get a new headshot. Your old headshot will not be the one getting the job if your current appearance represents someone other than who the casting committee was expecting. Actors who genuinely commit to reading are fun to watch. They literally transform themselves into the character. By committing fully to the reading, you will dissolve any nervousness and play the part with genuine passion.”

Mwape concluded:”Make no excuses, life happens. Perhaps you couldn’t learn your lines because you lost your power. You were an hour late because you were stuck in traffic, or you had to take your dog to the emergency vet. Attribute these annoyances to some of life’s #inevitabilities and don’t attempt to give excuses. No one cares because there are so many others who are waiting to take your place. Don’t punish yourself, but prepare well in advance of the deadline and have a contingency plan in place to avoid being late. Last but not least, the life of an actor is not as easy as it may seem. There are often long periods of financial insecurity, fierce competition, and rejection that make the overall process that much more difficult. Still, knowing the most basic elements and adhering to simple rules will give you the best chance for success.”

Mwape is an award winning film director under Zikomo Africa awards.

No loss of Zambian lives as a result of Tropical Cyclone Freddy- Kakubo

1

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Stanley Kakubo has announced that no Zambian national in Malawi and Mozambique is reported to have lost their life as a result of Tropical Cyclone Freddy.

In a statement issued to the media, Mr Kakubo however disclosed that some Zambians in Blantyre city of Malawi, have been affected by Cyclone Freddy after their property was damaged following torrential rains.

Mr Kakubo said that the Zambian Missions in Malawi and Mozambique have since continued to check on the known Zambians in affected areas and will continue to closely monitor the situation as it evolves.

The Minister assured that his ministry remains actively seized over the matter and will update the nation especially on the welfare of Zambians as and when new information will be received.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation wishes to update the Nation on the welfare of Zambians following the devastating effects of Tropical Cyclone Freddy in Malawi and Mozambique,” Mr Kakubo stated.

He pointed out the support by the Government to Malawi and Mozambique in the form of disaster relief supplies of food and non-food items, including maize, beans, salt, chlorine, blankets and tents for displaced households.

Mr Kakubo said that the assistance is expected to help mitigate the untold effects of the disasters the two countries are experiencing and also to complement ongoing regional efforts towards humanitarian assistance.

And the Minister conveyed Zambia’s condolences to the two Governments, and the people of Malawi and Mozambique on the tragic loss of lives and sadness following the destruction of property in the wake of the cyclone.

The devastating tropical cyclone, which originated from north-western Australia and traversed the Indian Ocean to mainland Africa, has led to loss of hundreds of lives, injuries and severe damage to public and private property, particularly in Malawi.

WEEKEND SCORECARD: Nkana Toast First Away Win in Lusaka This Season

0

Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi has reflected on the resurgent Kitwe giant’s first away win in Lusaka this season where they beat defending champions Red Arrows on Saturday.

Nkana beat Arrows 1-0 at Nkoloma Stadium through a 69th minute Jacob Ngulube goal.

Green Buffaloes and Zanaco beat Nkana 1-0 and 3-2 respectively while they left Nkwazi with a scoreless draw.

“It’s a good win for us as a team. Arrows is not a pushover team, they played well as well and they had to contain us, especially in the first half,” Chambeshi said.

“Above all, we wanted to collect maximum points away from home.

“As Nkana at least we are pushing slowly and for sure the remaining seven games we will make sure we take each game with a serious approach.

“As I said earlier, the remaining games are cup finals so we don’t have enough time to relax. We have to push on.”

Meanwhile, Nkana is 9th on 38 points, six points behind second placed Buffaloes and further 13 points adrift of Power Dynamos with seven games left to play.

FAZ Rallies Fans To Turn Up at Levy on Thursday

2

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appealed to soccer fans to turn up in numbers to cheer Chipolopolo in this Thursday’s 2023 Africa Cup qualifier against Lesotho at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The Group H match will kick off at 18h00.

FAZ Communications Manager Sydney Mungala said support from fans is key as Zambia seek to qualify for the Africa Cup.

Mungala said FAZ is upbeat that Zambia will triumph over Lesotho.

“We are asking fans to come in huge numbers to watch the Chipolopolo against Lesotho on Thursday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. It has been long since we brought the Senior National Team match to the Copperbelt Province,” Mungala told Radio Icengelo Sports in Ndola.

Ivory Coast lead Group H with four points followed by Zambia and Comoros, who are tied on three points each.

Lesotho are bottom of the group with one point in two matches played.

Medicines crisis convulsing country into intensive care amid cruel Govt denial

4

By Dr Chitalu Chilufya

20 March 2023 — On Sunday morning, yesterday as I drove along Chikwa road, towards the Addis Ababa roundabout, my attention was drawn to the outer lane where a number of cars had parked, with desperate motorists and pedestrians surrounding a convulsing young man.

As a medical doctor compelled by the Hippocratic oath to save lives, l immediately parked by and joined the gallant citizens frantically trying to help the patient.

I was quickly identified as a doctor and given leeway to lead the roadside response.

A few minutes later, the patient stopped fitting and regained consciousness. He then told his story:” l am epileptic; however l haven’t taken medication for five days; l am walking home to John Laing, from levy Mwanawasa hospital where l went this morning, to seek care and medication; however l was just given a prescription to buy medicine; l don’t have any money; so l was walking home.”

I thanked the gallant citizens for the Ubuntu spirit they exhibited to aid a desperate citizen who would have otherwise been bashed while convulsing.
Yes l drove away with the patient a nearest drug store and the rest, as they, is history.

The following questions beg our honest answers as a collective: How many citizens are convulsing, injuring themselves or falling in fires and burning or dying? How many other chronic patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, etc, are suffering quietly or dying prematurely without getting the help from our hospitals.

For how long will the persistent drug shortages be ignored by Government; is life as sacred under this UPND regime which seems obsessed with political point-scoring?

The sanctity of life is inviolable under any circumstances and I therefore urge government to abandon their cruel state of denial and deal with drugs crisis immediately.

Zambia is indeed fitting; it is in a catatonic state and requires urgent remedial measures.

Speaker commissions Malole Constituency Office

Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti has officially commissioned the K1.6 million Malole Constituency Office in Mungwi District.

And Ms Mutti says constituency offices are strategic links between the legislative wing of government which cut beyond the political divide.

She said the facilities are key in enhancing participation in governance issues and also serve as information resource centers.

The Speaker has since paid tribute to the German government through the German Development Bank for funding the construction of Constituency offices in different parts of the country.

She said the development is in line with the mission of taking Parliament closer to the people.

Earlier, German Development Bank Director, Stefan Lutz said community engagements are key in strengthening parliamentary and government operations.

Mr Lutz encouraged the public to make use of Constituency offices to continue engaging political leaders on matters of development.

And Malole Constituency Member of Parliament, Robert Kalimi said the newly built office should not be politicised and is open to all residents of Mungwi.

Ex-miners want private meeting with President Hichilema

2

The ex-miners in Zambia have called for an up-close engagement with President Hakainde Hichilema for them to present their challenges.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Kitwe, National Ex-Miners and Allied Workers Association president, Lucky Zulu, said the meeting which the ex-miners have last week with the Head of State was not conducive for them to present some of their challenges.

“We need to have a one-on-one engagement so that issues could be articulated in details now because we did not have enough time, we could not articulate issues as we would have loved to but it was a good gesture because they thought of us but then we did not have enough time,” Mr. Zulu explained.

He said the association will engage the Copperbelt Province Minister to arrange a meeting with the President.

Mr Zulu said the ex-miners have many challenges which need to be shared with the President in a closed door meeting.

He has since urged his members to remain calm as the association leaders continue to seek for an appropriate audience with Mr Hichilema in a bid to have their challenges attended to.

He said last week’s meeting was an assurance of a possible breakthrough as this was the first time they were presenting their challenges to a Head of State.

Last week, President Hichilema met ex-miners during a stakeholders’ meeting in Mufulira where they requested for various empowerment initiatives.

Some of the requests presented by the ex-miners include providing more land for ex-miners in districts in the Copperbelt Province, linking farm blocks owned by ex-miners to financial support such as loans and market linkages, and the inclusion of a Constituency Development Funds (CDF) component to support ex-miners among others.

Ex-miners feel the issues they presented may not be attended to because of the nature of the meeting which was an open public meeting.

Catholic Church in Zambia raising money for Cyclone Freddy victims in Malawi

0

Mansa Catholic Diocese Bishop, Patrick Chisanga, has called on church members in his diocese to help the victims of cyclone Freddy in Malawi. Bishop Chisanga disclosed that the Catholic Church in Zambia targets to raise US$10, 000 for helping people that were affected by cyclone in Malawi, especially those in Blantyre.

He said the disaster in Malawi has not only killed some people but also left thousands homeless and without food.

He was speaking when he addressed the lay faithful at Mansa Cathedral as part of his pastoral visit.

Bishop Chisanga said whatever is happening in Malawi is of great concern to everyone in Zambia hence the decision by the Catholic Church to join all those providing various humanitarian aid.

“Here in my Diocese, I want to encourage you Christians to be generous in giving any kind of help which will be taken to our brothers and sisters in Malawi. The people of Malawi, especially Blantyre, have been left without homes, food, hence the need to help them,” he said.

He further said Mansa Diocese has pledged an amount totaling US$10,000 to go towards helping the flood victims in Malawi.

Bishop Chisanga disclosed that the Catholic Church in Malawi has communicated to the church in Zambia to help them in prayers and also in other ways possible.

“The Bible encourages us to always be there for our brothers and sisters who are in need and that God himself will be able to reward all those who will be generous, and it is in times like these that we as Christians, need to heed to what we believe in,” Bishop Chisanga said.

He has since urged people to continue praying for the people of Malawi even as they are passing through hard period.

Some parts of Malawi have been hit by cyclone Freddy and over 300 people have died while more are still missing.

JCTR laments the prevailing high cost of living in Zambia

0

The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) has lamented the prevailing high cost of living in the country. According to JCTR, the average cost of living for a family of five across the 16 towns as monitored last month (February) stood at K6, 637.20.

This reflects a K230.75 increase from the K9,047.31 recorded in February, 2023.

The most expensive town’s basket, Lusaka, stood at K9, 278.06, reflecting a K230.75 increase from the K9, 047.31 recorded in January and Kasama was the least expensive town for a family of five to live in – recording K4, 971.85.

JCTR Executive Director Fr. Alex Muyebe said the upward movement in the basket is attributed to increased prices in food items such as rice, kapenta, cassava flour and fruits.

Fr. Muyebe said the JCTR observed that during the month under review, the Energy Regulation Board pump price of petroleum products rose significantly while the local currency continued to depreciate against major currencies such as the dollar.

“Furthermore, the month of January saw an increase in mealie meal prices, which resulted in an increase in the prices of substitutes such as rice and cassava flour in the month of February. It is worth noting that the prices of other fruits, such as mango, apple, orange, and guava (price based on the cheapest fruit in a given season), increased as mangoes went out of season. JCTR remains concerned about the high cost of living. Women and girls continue to bear the brunt of the impact of rising cost of living. This becomes especially important as the JCTR prepares to join the rest of the world in commemorating International Women’s Day. JCTR recognises that women continue to play an important role in economic development. However, despite them comprising more than 50 percent of Zambia’s population, women and girls still lag behind their male counterparts in terms of economic, social and political participation,” Fr. Muyebe stated.

Fr. Muyebe bemoaned the impact of the high cost of living on women and the poverty situation in the country.

“The women continue to face high levels of poverty and several obstacles that limit their development and ability to withstand current crises such as climate change, COVID-19, public debt and, in this case, high living costs. Financial and insurance exclusion are among the most pressing challenges that women face. In Zambia for example, approximately 67.9 percent of women are financially included, in comparison to 71.2 percent of men2 . Statistics from the 2021 Labour Force Survey highlight that there are more 1 Petrol and low sulphur diesel rose by 11.15 and 10.63 percentage points respectively 2 Bank of Zambia. (2020). Finscope 2020 Survey Topline findings. employed males than females at 60.5 percent and 39.5 percent at national level, respectively,” Fr. Muyebe said.

He has since urged the Government to address the cost-of-living head on by increasing the minimum wage and increasing social protection allocations.

“Government must urgently confront the rising cost of fuel as soon as possible by expediting bilateral agreements with cheaper sources. Fuel price increases invariably have a cascading effect on the prices of other essential goods and commodities, affecting people’s lives. While contractionary fiscal policy is critical for containing inflationary pressure, the government must continue to assist (through an enabling environment) the local private sector, particularly small and medium-sized businesses, in ramping up production. Government must implement gender responsive budgeting. This is important in ensuring that fiscal policy responds to the actual needs of women and girls. This can be accomplished by tackling illicit financial flows that continue to limit the government’s ability to implement gender equity and equality programs. By ensuring this, in addition to corporations paying their fair share, more revenue can be salvaged for gender sensitive social sector spending, which is critical for protecting women from economic crises such as a high cost of living. ,” Fr. Muyebe concluded.

Remodeled Indeni Energy Company in the Copperbelt Province will help to lower the cost of fuel

6

Energy Minister Peter Chibwe Kapala has said the revival of Tazama Pipeline and remodeled Indeni Energy Company in the Copperbelt Province will help to lower the cost of fuel in the country.

Eng. Kapala on Monday morning officially opened the valve for the diesel at Tazama Pipelines Limited at Bwana Mkubwa Terminal in Ndola.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, Mr. Kapala commissioned the commencement of the processing of commingled feedstock by Indeni Energy Company in Ndola.

Remodeled Indeni Energy Company has commenced oil refining operations after 18 months of shut down.

“These developments mean that we can successfully use local engineers to put back the plant. Also it will open up to the importation of finished products mainly diesel and we anticipate that the price of diesel will come down. That is what we want. That will result in reducing the cost of doing business in the country,” Mr. Kapala said.

“I am glad to be here today and announce that Indeni and Tazama have received and are storing the whole quantity of commingled feedstock from the pipeline. You may wish to note that Indeni and Tazama tanks both have received about 94,000m3 of commingled feedstock approximately 77,000 metric tonnes and 20,000m3 of kerosene Indeni had by last Saturday completed the maintenance exercise that has been ongoing in preparation to process this commingled crude oil from the pipeline,” Mr. Kapala said.

Exif_JPEG_420

Meanwhile, Mufulira’s Kankoyo Member of Parliament Heartson Mabeta has hailed the resumption of operations at Tazama Pipeline.

Mr. Mabeta said the revival of Tazama will help to create jobs and business opportunities beyond the Copperbelt Province.

“Tazama Pipeline is back in Operations, transporting diesel at $49 per metric tonnes from $171 per metric tonnes using fuel tankers. Zambian owned fuel tankers are already on site in redness of starting to uplifting diesel to different parts of the country. Soon we shall have fuel tankers from Congo chasing diesel from Tazama. The official commissioning of the conversion of Tazama Pipeline from a transporter of crude oil into a finished products Pipeline has taken place on Monday the 20th of March 2023.This is 65 days ahead of schedule as this process was expected to happen first week of June 2023.The conversion of the Tazama pipeline from a crude oil carrier into a finished products pipeline will not only reduce the cost of transportation of fuel by 60% but also with the following benefits among others: Indeni will now be able to blend diesel with ethanol which is produced from local sugar cane, maize and cassava hence not only reducing the price of petrol and diesel but also creating a better price for industrial cassava for our peasant farmers,” Mr. Mabeta said.

“The uplifting of fuel from Ndola will create jobs for Zambian fuel tanker drivers who haven’t been able to load fuel from Tanzania due to the resistance they have been encountering whenever they tried to load fuel from Dar es Salaam. Opportunity to export fuel to Congo as it will be cheaper for fuel importers in Congo to load fuel in Ndola instead of Dar es Salaam. Export of blended fuel with ethanol produced from local cassava by Indeni into Congo which will improve the flow of dollars into our economy. Once our Debt restructuring program is completed next month and the kwacha starts to gain, we shall see a systematic reduction of diesel in Zambia month by month from May onwards. Allow me to thank President Hakainde Hichilema, the Minister of Energy and his team for their methodical approach in handling issues of national Importance which will soon be bearing fruits to the people of Zambia in General and Kankoyo in particular,” he stated.

Indeni Managing Director Evans Mauta said the firm is refining piped feedstock into kerosene, jet fuel, petrol and diesel among other petroleum products.

Besides, oil refinery Indeni will be involved in oil marketing as well.

Makinka salutes Kajoba as Nkwazi fly out of the red zone

0

By BENEDICT TEMBO

NKWAZI stand –in coach Dennis Makinka was full of praises for his employers and the club’s executive as the team moved out of the relegation zone for the first time this season following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nchanga Rangers in an MTN round 27 encounter at Edwin Imboela Stadium.

Nkwazi, who have now moved to 31 points – at par with Rangers but with a superior goal difference, fell behind to Ciel Ebengo’s 10th minute goal.

Despite going a goal down, Nkwazi fought gamely and equalised in the 70th minute through a Justin Shonga strike after being put through by Christopher Zulu.

Zulu, creator of the equaliser turned scorer in the 72nd courtesy of an Elias Kazangarare pass.

In a post-match interview, Makinka, standing in for coach Osward Mutapa who is with the Under-23 national team in Cairo, paid glowing tribute to Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba for motivating the team.

Makinka said the IG has demonstrated personal commitment towards the welfare of the team and is concerned at its poor performance.

Mutapa and Makinka were installed by the IG two months ago and have been in charge for 10 games, winning four, drawing two and have lost four times.

The Nkwazi Theatre Group was on hand to provide moral support to the football team by cheering before, during and after the match.

Nkwazi, who are now fifth from the bottom, have supplanted Rangers.

In Ndola, Zesco United continued showing progress under George Lwandamina by leaving it late to beat Kabwe Warriors 1-0 at a rain-drenched Railway Ground in Ndola.

Green Eagles were held to a goalless draw by Green Buffaloes in Choma so were log leaders Power Dynamos stretched to a barren draw by Zanaco.

Zambia not ready to host Democracy Summit – Mundubile

BRIAN Mundubile has called for cancelation of the Democracy Summit Zambia is expected to co-host with the United States as well as the governments of Costa Rica, the Netherlands and Republic of Korea on grounds that Zambia’s record on human rights under the UPND has been dented by human rights violations.

Mr. Mundubile, the Leader of the Opposition Patriotic Front said while government was preparing to host the Democracy Summit, Zambia was experiencing serious human rights violeation with the arrest of 22 peaceful protesters who were airing their views on a range of national issues.
Mr Mundubile said until and unless the UPND government improved its human rights record and stopped the arbitrary arrests and dentation of citizens for political reasons, Zambia was not ready to host the Democracy Summit
He said a number of journalists had recently been detentions without being charged after they were arrested for performing their duties.

Mr. Mundubile said President Hakainde Hichilema while on the Copperbelt issued derogatory remarks and investctives against his predecessor, former President Edgar Lungu apart from threatening the former head of State with arrest.
Mr Mundubile said President Hichilema was threatening Mr Lungu for only going to church for worshipping, stating that it was undemocratic for the head of State to threaten to curtail the rights and freedoms of his predecessor.

He said the human rights violation in the country were not what the international community was expecting of a Constitutional Democracy such as Zambia.
“We are a Constitutional Democracy. One eminent writer has penned thus; “The greatness of any nation lies in the fidelity to the constitution.” what we are seeing today is a violation of the Constitution in many aspects. Zambians are no longer free to assemble and associate. We had 22 Zambians who were recently arrested for merely attempting to assemble and express themselves over a range of national matters they were aggrieved with. We must not just be preaching democracy, we must indeed be seen to be practising it and our governance should be based on the rule of law and not at the whims of those in leadership,” Mr Mundubile said.

Mr. Mundubile said the country had seen a shrinking media and civic space under UPND and that it was feared that the UPND could turn out to be the most oppressive government ever.

“To host a Democracy Summit at a time like this will be very difficult. It shall be difficult in the sense that you cannot be sitting in a room discussing democracy when you have your citizens being opressed,” he said.
Mr. Mundubile wondered what the UPND administration would present at the Summit given the many examples of violation of Human Rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.

“We want to see what kind of poetry government officials are going to present at the Summit given that they have not acted democratically in many instances,” Mr Mundubile said.

Mweetwa wrong on HH’s use of Ukutumpa says George Mpombo

Former Defence Minister George Mpombo has criticized the United Party for National Development (UPND) spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa for defending President Hakainde Hichilema’s personal attacks on his predecessor, Edgar Lungu. Dr Mpombo has stated that President Hichilema’s assault on the integrity of Mr Lungu was uncalled for and beyond justification politically or morally.

In response to a statement by Mr Mweetwa that opposition political parties had taken the use of the Bemba word “Ukutumpa” out of context, Dr Mpombo argued that despite being provoked, former President Levy Mwanawasa never harboured any hard feelings. He said Mr Mwanawasa never used to hold grudges against his political opponents and that his leadership was praised by the nation when he authorized Mr Sata’s evacuation to South Africa for medical treatment.

Dr Mpombo added that what Mr Mwanawasa purportedly said to Mr Sata faded into insignificance as compared to the words uttered by President Hichilema in Kitwe, considering the Head of State’s body language and tone of his voice. He said the public and the church should have admonished President Mwanawasa if the comments were perceived as a threat on the late Mr Sata.

Dr Mpombo stated that Mr Mweetwa’s assertions in Livingstone were morally and politically bankrupt and had loopholes through which a herd of elephants would be driven through. Mr Mweetwa, who is also Southern Province Minister, has expressed concern over the continued abuse of President Hichilema’s use of the term “Kutumpa Uko” during his recent public address on the Copperbelt Province.

Mr Mweetwa said opposition political parties had taken the statement out of context and that the cliché “Kutumpa” was a common saying, widely used in the Zambian vocabulary when referring to something that is not acceptable. He pointed out that Mr Mwanawasa and Mr Lungu had used that cliché during their reign.

“President Mwanawasa did at one point use the term in reference to the leading opposition party leader then Michael Sata, ‘Nga watumpa; fyala kubipila,’ and also President Edgar Lungu once he took over the reins of leadership of this country did address union leaders who then had indicated that he had failed to provide leadership of this country by saying ‘Kutumpa for the union leaders to say I have failed’,” Mr Mweetwa explained.

President Hichilema’s use of the term “Kutumpa Uko” has generated controversy, with some accusing him of using inappropriate language. However, Mr Mweetwa has defended the President, arguing that the term is widely used and that opposition parties are taking it out of context.
