President Michael Sata has said that the state will defend and protect the Litunga and the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) from any attempts of aggression being created by a clique of misguided individuals.

This is contained in a media statement made available to the media by State House.

The Head of State said that he had credible information that there are certain frustrated and ill-advised persons that are manoeuvring to bring strife to the Litunga and the BRE.

President Sata has warned that the state security wings will not sit idle and watch reckless people sow discord in Western Province.

“This Government is committed to ensuring peace and stability in Western Province and views the Litunga and the BRE as an important part of that process. The Litunga and the BRE symbolises national unity and identity,” President Sata says.

“Therefore, those seeking to undermine the Litunga and the BRE using unlawful means will be dealt with firmly. As responsible elected officers of the people we pledge that urgent and practical measures will be engaged to nip these illegitimate schemes in the bud.”

Foreigners in Jail over travel documents appeal to President Sata

Why do the Zambian authorities torture foreigners like the kabwalala and put them in prisons like CHIMBOKAILA and KAMWALA REMIND PRISON for 5years or 3 years because of travel documents. They stay there with out DEPORTATION.It is not fair because all of us we are AFRICANS.

Why the peoples of Zambia live in peace in our countries, they are not treated like the way Zambia Immigration treat the foreigners from others countries
like Tanzania,Burundi,Rwanda,Uganda,DRC,Kenya etc…..

I can ask for President Sata we was together in the prisons KAMWALA and CHIMBOKAILA in 2006.He knows how is it to put innocent peoples in prison. He was innocent that time like us foreigners.President Sata now is your time to save the foreigners.

In August this year Times of Zambia carried a story that 11 Ethiopians have been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each with hard labour after they pleaded guilty to the offence of Consenting to being smuggled into Zambia.

The Lusaka High Court sentenced the 11 who included a woman after the 11 took plea to the offence which is contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

The 11 had also been sentenced to nine, six and three months for admitting the charge of failing to appear before the nearest Immigration office upon entering Zambia, contrary to the Immigration and Deportation Act.

The convicts who had been in custody would have their sentences run from the day of arrest in December last year.
High Court judge Mungeni Mulenga, however, reserved judgment to the 12th accused person Berenet Abebe because he had been hospitalised to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), and his judgment was set for September 7, this year.
This was in a case in which, Daboba Habibi, Amenule Desale, Tagasse Selamu, Abdulahi Debiso, Biruk Alimue, Hussein Rahima, (only female), Abdi Aliyi Ahmed, Mubarek Ahmed, Abdurah Mante, Muta Kasim and Arab Tajure had been convicted on the said charge.
In count one, the 12 were facing a charge of Consenting to being smuggled Contrary to Section 9 (1) of the Anti-Human Trafficking Act Number 11 of 2008 of the Laws of Zambia.
In count two, the convicts pleaded guilty to failing to appear before the nearest Immigration officer upon entry into Zambia, contrary to Section 12(2) and Section 51(1) as read with Section 56 (1) of the Immigration and Deportation Act Number 18 of 2010 of the Laws of Zambia.
The convicts had earlier appeared before senior resident magistrate Aridah Chulu who could not pass sentence in the first count due to jurisdiction but sentenced them to various months in count one.
She then referred the matter to the High Court for sentencing in the first count where they were now jailed 15 years each with hard labour.
Facts before the court were that a group of Ethiopians left for South Africa where arrangements were made with an agent who was paid an undisclosed amount of money to take them to their desired destination.
The same agent on unknown dates but around December 2011 made the accused persons to cross borders without passing through the Immigration Department offices for their clearance as they were put in a container.
They then found themselves in Lusaka where they were apprehended and handed over to the Immigration and investigations revealed that the convicts had consented to being smuggled from Tanzania to Zambia.

UPND not after official opposition status

UPND vice president Richard Kapita

The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) says it is not in parliament to enjoy the privileges that come with being recognized as the official opposition political party in the house.

UPND vice president Richard Kapita says the party is in parliament to provide the necessary checks and balances to the Patriotic Front so that citizens can be provided with better services.

Mr. Kapita was commenting on MMD’s loss of official opposition status in parliament.

Speaking to QFM News, Mr. Kapita says the requirement to be recognized as an official opposition is merely ceremonial.

He says the UPND is represented in the house so that things in the country go well and not to enjoy privileges that come along.

Mr. Kapita it is time the people of Zambia stood up to fight for what is right and not ignore and pretend that things are going well in the country.

Clive Chirwa spells out plan for ZR, relinquishes his British Citizenship to help Zambia

Prof Clive Chirwa

Newly appointed Zambia Railways Limited Chief Executive Officer Professor Clive Chirwa says an estimated 750 million will be required to fully revamp the operations of the ailing railway firm.

Professor Chirwa said ZRL requires enormous capital injection for it to perform as a modern railway line with a modern fleet.

Professor Chirwa said the USD 120 million allocated in this year’s budget will only be used to improve operations in the first phase of the ZRL development programme.

He said he is fully determined to transform Zambia Railways into a modern railways transport company.

Featuring on Muvi TV’ Assignment programme, Professor Chirwa revealed that he will revamp Zambia Railways in three years.

Professor Chirwa said he will introduce electronic trains that will be using its own power and not relying on state power utility, ZESCO.

“Accepting this appointment has meant I have had to give up a lot in terms of my own personal incomes. It’s at a huge personal sacrifice but this is how much I would like to help develop my country,” he said.

Professor Chirwa revealed that he has decided to relinquish his British Citizenship to come and work in Zambia.

“We will abandon these diesel electric lines and install a whole new fleet that will fully be automated in three years, we will be generating our own power and not depending on ZESCO.”

“What we want is for companies like ZAMEFA to stop export their copper wires but supplying those to ZRL as big scale engineering will be done in Kabwe. We will also be doing assembling of Coaches at places like Choma,” he said.

Professor Chirwa also revealed plans to extend the rail line to Mpulungu and Mongu by building the line to those regions in phase two of his plans for ZRL.

He said some of the strategies he will use include market research, needs analysis, budget preparation and employee motivation.

Professor Chirwa is also targeting to recruit some experts from the diaspora to come and help him revamp the railway firm.

Masumba woes Kabompo east MMD members

Newly appointed North western province minister Stephen Masumba has urged MMD sympathizers in the province not to feel insecure to join the ruling Patriotic Front-PF.

Mr Masumba appealed to the opposition party members to also consider the development agenda of the PF government as a move that should attract them to join the ruling party.

Mr Masumba said there is nothing wrong for people from the opposition parties who are willing to align themselves with the Patriotic Front government to do so because its development agenda is all inclusive and beyond political interests.

The minister was speaking in Kabompo when he addressed MMD and PF district officials at Suwuluka lodge yesterday.

He said the grass root structures of the PF has to grow by increasing the membership and that anyone willing to join should feel free to come on board.

And Kabompo east MMD member of parliament Danny Chinyimbu who accompanied Mr Masumba on his tour to the district said he is still consulting party officials in the constituency before he considers resigning from the former ruling party.

Mr Chinyimbu said he has realized that he cannot deliver his development agenda to the expectations of the people in the area if he remains in the opposition.

He disclosed that the PF in the province has approached him over his intention to cross over to the ruling party but that he is still weighing the sacrifice before accepting the offer.

Meanwhile, senior chief Sikufele of Kabompo district has thanked Mr Chinyimbu for his intention to leave the opposition MMD.

The senior chief said it is no long making sense for the MMD MP to remain in opposition when government has changed.

A Matero resident Opper Hamiyanze says opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema is exhibiting double standards over the allocation of K1.5 billion towards the construction of a retirement house for President Michael Sata.

Mr Hamiyanze wondered why the UPND leader is now against the allocation of funds for the Head of State’s retirement house when during the Rupiah Banda administration the UPND 2010 and 2011 approved K7. 2 billion allocated for the former president’s retirement house.

In an interview with ZANIS yesterday, Mr. Hamiyanze advised Mr. Hichilema to instead concentrate on building his party rather than venting his anger and frustration on the sound economic policies the Patriotic Front government has for the Zambian people.

He urged the opposition UPND leader to be objective and mature if he is to succeed in his political career.

Mr Hamiyanze further noted that the PF government embraces divergent views but that if the views are always marred with unnecessary verbal attacks then such kind of critique will not be welcome.

The Opposition UPND president has been quoted in some sections of the media as having criticised the allocation of funds towards the construction of a retirement house for President Michael Sata.

ZDDM petitions Sata over rising political tension

40
UPND president Hakainde Hichilema with his counterparts from Nevers Mumba from MMD and Edwin Sakala )from Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (left).

The Zambia Direct Democracy Movement this afternoon presented a petition to President Michael Sata at State House urging the Head of State to convene an urgent inter-party dialogue meeting.

ZDDM National Coordinator Edwin Sakala accompanied by his Vice President Charles Kafumbo handed over the petition to State House staff calling on President Sata to urgently meet key opposition leaders for dialogue.

Mr. Sakala told Journalists that the rising political tension in Zambia could only be diffused if politicians started talking to each other.

“We are concerned as ZDDM because tension on the political field is rising fast and we want the President to step in and help harmonise the situation,” Mr. Sakala said.

He explained that politicians should promote dialogue and realize that Zambia is greater than any one of them hence the need to promote national interest.

“The impasse between the PF and the opposition is a source of great concern for us. The issues of the PF poaching opposition MP’s, the President appointing people to ministerial positions that are facing criminal charges in court, these are some of the issues that are brewing tension,” he added.

“The PF should realize that they cannot effectively govern without the opposition as the Bembas say, Umunwe umo tausala inda (one finger cannot pick lice), they should respect the role of the opposition,” he said.

Meanwhile, State House Press Aide George Chellah later told Journalists that the petition will be availed to President Sata because it was presented in a non-confrontational manner.
“We are happy that the opposition is slowly beginning to realize that President Sata was given a mandate to rule this country by the Zambian people and that antagonism will not take them anywhere,” Mr. Chellah said.

“This petition will be responded to, there are no confrontational issues here, we will be responding to the petitioners,” he said.

What were you thinking about?

8

By Mazala Zulu
Can you remember if you were you filling your mind with positive thoughts, or were you filled with negative thoughts, worried about how things might not work out, how you will find excuses for not finishing a task you wanted to fulfil? Are you running to many tasks in your head at one go and failing to concentrate on one issue at a time?

If you can’t remember, you’re not alone.

Most of us don’t pay attention to our thoughts, thoughts shape and create our lives. Your mind works as if it’s a maze when it’s not directed, it can’t really find its way.

What you think about means a lot to your well being. Pay attention to your thoughts. When you speak to yourself, take good care that you don’t use negative comments, doing so makes you in charge of the direction of your thinking. When you master this, you will naturally use positive words, even when you speak to others. It’s contagious.

We spend so much time everyday thinking about why things don’t work out, why things may have gone wrong, what somebody said or did, we focus on the past, worry about the future… but most of these thoughts are really useless they just stress us out.

Your thoughts can be magical, they can create wonderful events, attract terrific people and situations and allow you to improve your life so that you no longer have to worry, stress, or be concerned about the future.

Your thoughts are picked up by your subconscious mind.Thoughts that you focus on regularly, lead to beliefs. These beliefs are planted on your subconscious mind like instructions inserted into a computer. Your subconscious then goes out and attracts the people, situations, opportunities based on those beliefs.[pullquote]Turn your life around.
Achieve all your goals.
Live the life you want[/pullquote]

Your subconscious thinks that you want life to be hard, that you don’t want to be good enough, your subconscious goes out and creates the situations, circumstances and opportunities to help you live the life according to those instructions.

In the above case… your subconscious is creating exactly what you don’t want and it only does this because it’s following your instructions (your thoughts and beliefs).

Change those beliefs (the instructions that do not get you were you want to be).Give your subconscious mind a new set of directions. (Change the old DVD to a new one)Put an end to any misery and create happiness and success instead.

If you want to start achieving your goals and live a happier life…then start tracking your daily thoughts. I use meditation for this process.

Create thoughts that focus on your positive qualities and on the results that you want.If you’re worrying about something, focus or think about finding solutions. If you’re thinking about the past, let it go and think about what you want NOW.What ever it is that’s holding you back, change the thoughts surrounding it.Thoughts repeated regularly lead to beliefs. Beliefs create your reality.

When you have a new and positive belief system you’ll begin to see changes.

Start directing the power of your subconscious to guide you to the happiness you deserve

Remember — you only get one life and one chance.Make the most of it. Stop defeating yourself, stop limiting yourself. Create all the success you want and deserve in life.

Masebo blames opposition for Street vendor’s resistance to get off the streets in Livingstone

GOVERNMENT has warned opposition political parties in Livingstone to desist from frustrating its efforts of clearing street vending from the streets aimed at maintaining sanity in the city ahead of next year’s United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) general assembly.

Tourism and Arts Minister Sylvia Masebo urged the opposition not to use street vendors for their selfish gains, as the Government was determined to maintain cleanliness in the city ahead of the UN tourism global summit.

Ms Masebo said some opposition leaders were telling street vendors to remain in the streets to insinuate that the Government had failed to control the situation yet the Livingstone City Council had provided an alternative land outside the town centre where vendors could be trading from.

She was speaking in Livingstone after she toured the town centre component of Mosi-oa-tunya road which was overcrowded by over 200 street vendors.

She said it was important that Livingstone was kept clean and the corridors were kept clear for tourists and other visitors to freely move around as opposed to the current situation where vendors overcrowded the streets.

[pullquote]We know that opposition leaders are telling vendors that they should not move out of the streets so that Government should be seen to be failing to control the situation. Don’t use vendors for your selfish gains,” Ms Masebo said.[/pullquote]

She said Livingstone was not just an ordinary town but a tourist capital of Zambia hence it was important that the city maintained its status.

“Clearly there is a problem here in Livingstone because the number of street vendors in the town centre is increasing every day. The environment is not conducive and we need to do something urgently to control the situation.

We know that opposition leaders are telling vendors that they should not move out of the streets so that Government should be seen to be failing to control the situation. Don’t use vendors for your selfish gains,” Ms Masebo said.

She said if street vendors in Livingstone did not move out of the streets to an alternative land the Council provided to them, the situation could get out hand especially as the rain season was approaching.

“For those who want to bring politics in matters of street vending, we will deal with them because we are better politicians than them.

“We know how to play politics and how to use the system to ensure that those who want to play politics are dealt with accordingly by the law,” she said.

She urged vendors to listen to the Government which played the role of ensuring that there was order and the environment was conducive to tourists, residents, vendors and other stakeholders.

She noted that even some foreigners from Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Tanzania and other countries were also selling various merchandise in Livingstone which was unfortunate.

She was determined to ensure that Livingstone was clean ahead of the UNWTO general assembly.

Ms Masebo urged vendors and other relevant authorities in Livingstone to ensure toilets and amenities were built at an alternative piece of land so that vendors could move to the new place soon.

Speaking at the same function, United Street Vendors Foundation (USVF) Southern Region Secretary Patrick Mubanga said the vendors would work with the Government to bring sanity in Livingstone.

Mr Mubanga said it was unfortunate that some opposition leaders were trying to politicise street vending, as vendors were ready to move out of the town centre and start trading at the new site.

“We will develop the new trading area and invite the Council to help us allocate stands to vendors so that the process is transparent. We want to graduate from street vendors to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMES,” he said.

Through Faith and Patience

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“…imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”
(Hebrews 6:12, NIV)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

In our culture today, people are used to getting things right away. We’ve been programmed for immediacy. People don’t like to wait. But the scripture says, “It’s through faith and patience that we inherit God’s promises.” Sometimes, it’s easy for people to have faith. We declare, “God, I believe I’m going to accomplish my dreams. God, I believe I’m going to overcome this obstacle.” But, it gets harder when we have to walk in patience. When you pray, can you say, “God, I not only believe for big things, but I trust Your timing. God, I’m not going to get discouraged if it doesn’t happen immediately. I’m not going to give up because it’s taken a week, a month or five years. I know the set time is already in my future, so I’m going to wait with faith and patience because I know that it’s on the way.”

Remember, through faith and patience we inherit His promises. Trust His Word, trust His timing and trust that your answer is on its way!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, today I declare that I trust You. I trust Your faithfulness. I trust Your goodness. I know that You are working things out in my favor and in Your timing. I declare that through faith and patience I will inherit every promise You have for me in Jesus’ name. Amen!
