Irresponsible actions of the Patriotic Front

21

Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I start this press conference by wishing those who were injured during the attack at BIGOCA a speedy recovery. I further wish to assure them that as responsible citizens of this country we will not rest until the day the culprits will be held accountable.

Two weeks ago a senior member of the MMD was roughed up and beaten by the PF cadres in full view of the police. Just two days ago the PF cadres again attacked people that gathered to pray for this country and its leadership. This is slowly but surely becoming the order of the day under the PF administration.

The savagery attack on defenseless clergy, members of civil society, opposition political parties and members of the press in the place of worship must be condemned in the strongest possible manner.

As NAREP we condemn what happened in Matero and find it very disturbing and unbelievable that the PF has continued stepping on the rights of the innocent people. The function that was disrupted was neither a political rally nor political meeting but a special church service for men and women of God who had gathered to pray for the many man-made problems this country is facing.

[pullquote]To the PF government, we implore you to, this time around stand up and own up to the misdeeds of your cadres and apologize to the nation and to the church and to the affected people with all seriousness it deserves.[/pullquote] We condemn the actions by the PF cadres and we wish to remind the republican president that he promised to govern this country based on the ten (10) commandments of the Holy Bible. Let this at least be one promise he makes every effort to keep. What we have witnessed in the recent passed is however the exact opposite to what the bible teaches us. Mr. Sata and the PF government have refused completely to listen to the cries of the many Zambians who are struggling to put a meal on the table. The people of Zambia who gave the PF a mandate to govern this country have rejected this violent, aggressive and non-consultative type of leadership by the PF government and it must now be clear even to the PF that it has failed.

We remind the secretary general of the PF Mr. Wynter Kabimba and the PF administration that Zambia does not belong to the few individuals benefiting and having more money in their pockets but to the many Zambians who are not able to afford a decent meal. The PF must be reminded that no political party comes to stay in government. We had UNIP and MMD that held power; the Zambian people were lied to for the sake of getting votes. Bear in mind that your time will come when you will be made to account for your action.

The PF government should tell us if what we are seeing now is the jobs that the youth were promised in 90 days. We cannot continue using innocent young people to attack harmless men and women of God out of pure selfishness. The PF must be assured that sending thugs to attack innocent people is not going to solve the problems that this country is facing. The PF must stop politicking and attacking people and concentrate on delivering development.

As a party that believes in its core values, we hereby register our disappointment and lack of trust in the Zambia Police that is now being used as a security wing of the Patriotic Front. We call upon the Inspector General of police Stella Libongani and her deputy Dr. Solomon Jere to choose between enforcing the law or to resign on moral grounds as they have completely failed to conduct themselves professionally from the time they were appointed to these positions.

As a woman and no doubt a mother, surely her heart should bleed at the events of last week. We wish to remind the police that you are there to protect the citizens of this country and not the PF cadres who are busy beating innocent people. The people of Zambia will never be safe if the police remain toothless or use their powers to frustrate bus drivers and other ordinary citizens who are merely trying to make a living.

We ask the PF to reflect on and remember the reasons they were ushered into power in 2011 and stop stepping on the rights of innocent people. We further wish to remind them that Zambia was declared a Christian nation and therefore we should respect the church regardless of the situation. The PF should allow citizens to gather and worship without any fear.

We demand that the police launch an investigation on the Matero incident and bring the culprits to book without any delay or political interference. We demand for justice and professionalism from the police service in following up this matter.

NAREP would love Mr. Sata to retire and leave in peace come 2016. We will respect, look after him as former head of state, as we embark on creating a new Zambia.

To the PF government, we implore you to, this time around stand up and own up to the misdeeds of your cadres and apologize to the nation and to the church and to the affected people with all seriousness it deserves.
We call upon all well-meaning Zambians and Christians to condemn what the PF is doing and continue praying to God for his intervention before the situation in our country gets out of hand.
Thank you and God be with you.

Sinazongwe residents pledges to standby Siamunene

Sinazongwe residents have pledged total support towards their expelled area Member of Parliament Richwell Siamunene and have vowed to shame UPND President Hakainde Hichilema by making sure that his party loses the seat once by- elections are held in the constituency.

The residents who on Friday gave Mr Siamunene a thunderous welcome during his visit to the constituency to attend the burial of Mike Siamize, a UPND cadre and Mr Siamunene’s cousin who died last week in a road accident along the Livingstone road have vowed to teach Hichilema a lesson.

Proceedings at the burial site almost came to a standstill when Hon Siamunene’s ministerial vehicle arrived at Sinanjola village where Siamize has been buried much to the delight of the residents that gathered at the site.

Soon after the burial which was attended by Kalomo Member of Parliament Request Muntanga who represented Mr Hichilema, the residents who could not be controlled by the heavy presence of police officers thronged Hon Siamunene encouraging him to stand strong and be rest assured that he has the support of the people in the area.

A resident, Kenny Sibanda was heard telling Mr Siamunene that people in the area are so grateful to the government for initiating various developmental projects and that they will show appreciation by making sure that they voted for him now that UPND has expelled him.

Mr Sibanda added that residents in the area are fade up with the UPND which is expelling its members of parliament that have accepted to work with the government.

Meanwhile, over three thousand Sinazongwe residents in Chief Mweemba’s area over the weekend received free various medical services during the visit to the area by the mobile clinic from the provincial medical office.

Southern Province Mobile health services Coordinator Agness Chibuye disclosed this in an interview at Siatwinda rural health centre where the mobile clinic has been mounted that the response received from people in Mweemba chiefdom is overwhelming.

Mrs Chibuye told Mr Siamunene who visited the clinic to check on the services that the clinic was giving in the area for a total of five days, the clinic offered the residents various services such as laboratory tests, dental, eye and radiology services among others.

She added that the clinic was able to cater for both medical and surgical problems and that treatment was being given on the spot due to the ready availability of drugs.

Headman Simankawa who was at the clinic to receive medical attention thanked government for the opportunity given to the people of Chief Mweemba saying it is the first time that people in the area have been accorded an opportunity to access such treatment.

And speaking after his visit to the mobile hospital, Mr Siamunene said it is services such as those taken to his constituency that leaves him with no option but to work with the government.

He noted that for a long time, people in Chief Mweemba’s area have not had proper medical care due to long distance from the district hospital, a situation that has been denying them a chance to access proper health care and that because the PF government is a listening one, it has taken such services to the people.

POLICE in Lusaka are vigorously searching after the youths who stormed the Bible Gospel Church in Africa (BIGOCA) in Matero on Friday and disrupted a Black Friday meeting organised by some civil society, politicians and some church leaders after they beat up activists and journalists.

Lusaka Province Commissioner Charity Kasosa said police were making progress in the investigations as they were now in possession of a video tape which they would view to ascertain what transpired.

She said in an interview yesterday that necessary steps would be taken after the viewing of the tape that was now in the custody of the police.

Dockets had been opened after two people reported being assaulted on Friday and were issued with police medical forms to enable them seek medication.

She, however, said police were still waiting for the two among them a Zambia News and Information Services staffer who had not returned to the police after seeking medical attention so that the police could record statements from them.

Chief Government spokesperson Kennedy Sakeni has warned that law enforcement agencies would not hesitate to clamp down on trouble-makers.

Mr Sakeni who is Information and Broadcasting Services Minister said in an interview that the allegations by the MMD leader were unfounded.

He advised Dr Mumba to exhibit political maturity and seek other means of airing grievances in line with the law but not to agitate for violence.

[pullquote]Mr Sakeni however said the past had shown that youths were used by opposition to discredit the ruling party and that the violence taking place could have a similar root.[/pullquote]

“Dr Mumba should understand that youths have for a long time been used to fan violence and there is no evidence that PF is behind any of such machinations. He should show political maturity to address such issues and not engage in divisive and violent plans. The law will visit anyone planning to cause violence,” he said.

Mr Sakeni however said the past had shown that youths were used by opposition to discredit the ruling party and that the violence taking place could have a similar root.

He said such a matter required political maturity instead of accusations.

“They should not be naïve about this growing culture of youths harassing people but they should work with other political players including the PF to find a lasting solution to the problem unlike accusing and blaming other parties. Those who attacked the congregants are criminals and cannot be referred to as cadres, they are criminals who should be caged and as PF, we condemn such conduct,” he said.

He said Government was focused on developing the country and would not engage in violence.

Jacob Mulenga joins Zambia camp

18

Jacob Mulenga has joined the Zambia camp in Ndola ahead of Saturday’s 2014 World Cup Group D qualifier against Lesotho at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

The striker from FC Utrecht in Holland arrived just after 19:00 hours and headed straight into camp.

Mulenga becomes the third foreign-based player to join camp in the last 48 hours.

Midfielder Rainford Kalaba of TP Mazembe and striker Fwayo Tembo from Astra Giurgiu in Romania arrived in camp on Saturday afternoon.

James Chamanga and Christopher Katongo are expected to fly into Ndola on Monday from their respective bases in China.

Lesotho lose to Bafana

Lesotho’s preparations for Saturday 2014 World Cup Group D qualifier suffered a setback after losing 2-0 at home in a friendly against Bafana Bafana in Maseru.

The hosts struggled for the opening 35 minutes after initially giving South Africa too much respect.

In the 32nd minute, Bernard Parker fired a free kick off woodwork to see Lesotho survive from conceding the games’ opening goal.

Six minutes later, Lesotho began to find their feet and Thulo Ranchobe’s shot parried by Wayne Sandilands to test Bafana goal for the first time in the game.

Sandilands was back dealing with Ranchobe in the 41st minute when he saved the Lesotho strikers header.

Bafana stunned Lesotho in the 45th minute when Tlou Segolela tapped in the ball from close range to see the visitors take a 1-0 lead into the break.

Segolela sealed Bafana’s victory on the turn inside the box with a fine left foot volley.

Lesotho came close from getting a consolation in the 73rd minute when Katlego Moleko’s shot from outside the box but can off woodwork.

Lesotho, who drew 1-1 with Zambia at the same venue on March 24, are expected to arrive in Ndola on Thursday.

The Boston University African Presidential Centre has sent return air tickets to enable Former Republican President Rupiah Banda to travel to South Africa for the 2013 African Presidential Roundtable which begins on Wednesday, 5th June, 2013.

According to the Deputy Administrative Assistant in Mr Banda’s office, Kennedy Limwanya, the former Head of State’s scheduled trip of Tuesday, 4th June, hinges on the court ruling tomorrow regarding the release of his passport which is in the custody of the Government Joint Investigative Team.

Mr Limwanya said in a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today that the former President and one aide have been booked on South African Airways flight SAA 0063 to depart Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Tuesday and return to Lusaka shortly after the event that will be held at Constitution Hill in the Winnie Mandela Courtyard.

He also indicated that Boston University President –in- Residence attaché William Twayigize has assured Mr Banda of VIP security to be provided to him upon arrival at Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

Mr Limwanya noted that according to Twagiyize, the State protocol will allocate one security officer and one medical doctor to stay with Mr Banda throughout the round table event.

He said that all former heads of state to attend the Presidential Roundtable under the theme “The Cost of Democracy” have been booked at Westcliff Hotel.

Mr Banda has been invited to make a presentation at the 2013 African Presidential Roundtable on what Western countries can do to provide assistance in facilitating the electoral process in Africa and what the current generation of leaders need to do to further stability and democracy on the continent and in their own countries.

NAREP calls on police top brass to relinquish positions

Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani

National Restoration Party (NAREP) Vice President Charles Maboshe has called on the Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani and Deputy Inspector General of Police Solomon Jere to relinquish their positions if they cannot work professionally.

Mr Maboshe said it is sad that violence has taken toll in Zambia amidst police presence and in avoidable situations.

He said the Zambia police are seemingly becoming toothless and alleged that they have failed to perform according to their roles in many instances but have taken political sides.

Speaking at the NREP Party secretariat in Lusaka today, Mr Maboshe said it is unfortunate that the police have concentrated on harassing bus drivers who are making effort to feed their families than curbing violence and crime in the country.

He remained the police that their duty is to uphold law and order as well as to protect life and property of the general citizenry.

Mr Maboshe said NAREP will not rest until they ensure that perpetrators of violence are brought to book especially in the recent event in Matero township where worshipers where beaten at BIGOCA as they gathered to pray against governments decision to remove subsidies on fuel and maize.

He said it is disheartening to note that in a country which is considered as a Christian nation Christians cannot be allowed to pray, a situation he said is the opposite of the bible teachings.

He added that some Zambians who voted for the PF government have categorically denounced the behaviour of the unruly cadres.
He also said the youths of Zambia are saying no to violence and no longer want to be used as objects of violence for selfish gains.

Mr Maboshe has since called on President Sata to come out in the open and condemn the violence which occurred in Matero by alleged PF cadres.

The NAREP Vice President has also reminded those in government and anyone inciting violence that there is no permanent situations as governments come and go.

Traditional ceremonies to be rebranded to promote tourism and trade

Government says it is working closely with traditional leaders in the country to rebrand traditional ceremonies in order to promote tourism, trade and industry.

Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkandu Luo said a properly organized and rebranded traditional event can impact positively on the country’s development agenda.

Prof Luo said the Patriotic Front government is looking at the promotion of tradition and culture for sustainable development.

She said this in an interview with ZANIS yesterday on the sidelines of the Kazanga Kabompo traditional ceremony of the Nkoya people of Kabompo district in North Western province.

Prof Luo said it is government’s hope that in future local people will take the lead in organizing ceremonies so that they can showcase some of the products they can engage in trade and industry.

She said it is regrettable that traditional ceremonies are only synonymous with singing and dancing when they provide a platform for local people to engage in economic ventures that can help them better their lives.

And the Chief and Traditional Affairs Minister said government has no immediate plans to gazette chiefs that were degazetted by the colonialists because of financial constraints.

Professor Luo disclosed that a number of chiefs have approached her ministry to consider gazetting them but that the matter has financial implications.

She said there are currently 288 chiefs who are being paid allowances of about four thousand KR 4, 000 besides providing them with transport and constructing palaces for them.

And Kabompo West area Member of Parliament Abrose Lufuma who officiated at the event appealed to government to look for serious investors who can explore the vast mineral resources that North Western province is endowed with.

Mr Lufuma said the area has a lot of mineral resources such as copper, oil among other minerals but that these minerals have remained unexploited because of lack of investment in the area.

The Kabombo West Parliamentarian also thanked government for the support rendered to the organizing committee in hosting the ceremony.

Mr Lufuma also thanked President Michael Sata for creating Manyinga district and urged the president to create many more districts in North Western province in order to foster development in the area.

He also cautioned people in the area to desist from engaging in social activities that may expose them to the dangers of HIV/AIDS.

Meanwhile, Patron of Kazanga Kabompo traditional ceremony Crispin Shumina disclosed that this year’s ceremony was hosted in honour of American talk show host Oprah Winfrey whose latest DNA test traced her ancestry to the Nkoya people of Kabompo district.

Mr Shumina appealed to Government to facilitate the invitation of Ms Winfrey to Zambia so she can meet her relatives in Kabompo district.

FILE: MMD president Dr Nevers Mumba

MMD President Nevers Mumba has demanded that the PF immediately disbands the youth militia that it has reportedly set up to cause violence.

Addressing a news briefing at his residence in Kabulonga, Dr. Mumba condemned the PF youths for invading BIGOCA Church in Matero during Black Friday prayers.

He said the act of desecrating the House of God by PF youths is the highest form of disrespect that any government can show to God.

Dr. Mumba warned that the MMD and other like-minded organisations will from tomorrow launch a collective and sustained response to the PF violence.

He said other political parties and citizens will start arming themselves if the PF militia continues to pounce on innocent citizens.

“The PF has formed this militia group. We are not safe in our own country. If this continues, we will be forced as opposition to form our own groups to protect us because we can’t just sit and watch as we are being attacked, unless they (PF) come out and denounce this group and disband it,” he said

And Dr. Mumba says the PF has exhibited the highest form of arrogance by sending Ministers countrywide at a huge cost to the tax payer to go and explain subsidies

He said Zambians have refused to hear the PF messages on subsidy removal because it does not make economic sense at all.

Nkana reclaim top spot

18

Nkana returned to the top of the Faz Super Division table after a 1-0 away win over Nkwazi.
However, the win was secured in very unlikely circumstances.

Nkwazi defender Derrick Mwansa’s 70th minute own goal was enough for the 11-time champions to pick up the three points that came just four days after beating Zambia 2-1 in a training game in Kitwe.

Nkana reclaim their two-point lead on 26 points from 11 matches while Zesco United stay a very close second on 24 points.

The league now takes a two week break as the season makes way for 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Nkana will resume action on June 22 at home against Konkola Blades.

Nyambe: Beating Mine Police was not easy

3

Zesco United skipper Nyambe Mulenga has recounted that beating Konkola Mine Police 4-1 in Saturday’s Super League match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola was not easy.

The victory took Zesco to the summit of the table 24 hours before second placed Nkana, who are a point behind the Ndola side; take on Nkwazi away in Lusaka on Sunday.

Mulenga said Mine Police are good side and put up a spirited fight in the Week 11 match despite ending as losers.

“We are happy with is win. This was a nice match although it was not easy; Mine Police is a good team but we prepared adequately for them,” he said.

The Zambia defender said the victory was a motivation to his team.

“It‘s (win) a motivation for us because we have set a standard we have to play 15 games unbeaten,”

Resurgent Zesco have scored 14 goals in their last four matches.

Matero MP Miles Sampa attended a Sunday Church Service at the Bible Gospel Outreach Church in Africa (BIGOCA) in Matero which was the scene of violent attacks during Black Friday prayers.

Mr. Sampa who is also Commerce, Trade and Industry Deputy Minister apologized to BIGOCA Bishop Peter Ndhlovu for the Friday chaos.

“I came here to say am sorry for the fracas on Friday. I could have prevented it if I had prior information but I was totally unaware,” Mr. Sampa said.

He told congregants that the unruly youths had no blessings from the party leadership.

“I wish to distance our party from the violence that happened in this place on Friday. We respect people’s rights to assemble and no one should be allowed to take away that right from anyone.”

Mr. Sampa further said the public is encouraged to debate the issue of the removal of subsidies on fuel and maize.

[pullquote]“I wish to distance our party from the violence that happened in this place on Friday. We respect people’s rights to assemble and no one should be allowed to take away that right from anyone.”[/pullquote]

“Government does not have the monopoly of wisdom. This Government is a listening Government, we shall listen to the views of the people. Feel free to debate this issue without fear,” Mr. Sampa said.

The area MP also donated Kr 20,000 to BIGOCA’s initiative of taking care of the aged in Matero Township.
And BIGOCA Presiding Bishop Peter Ndhlovu said his church will remain nonpartisan but will not refuse to pray for politicians.

“We have always said we are nonpartisan and nothing will change that. We will continue praying for this nation and its leadership. We have already forgiven those youths.”

He added, “They did not physically harass me. When they stormed the Church, I just sat there watching them. I didn’t run away. They approached me and they said aba niba mudala (this is our old man) and I know some of those boys who came here.

National soccer team defender Stoppila Sunzu weds

37

Sunzu-2

NATIONAL soccer team defender Stoppila Sunzu yesterday bade farewell to bachelorhood when he married Gift Katebe at a colourful wedding ceremony in Lusaka.

The towering Chipolopolo defender could not hide his excitement when asked how he felt to walk down the aisle.
Responding to questions from journalists, Sunzu said from the luxurious Chrysler car shortly before departing for a photo session: “I feel good.”

Stoppila said none of his Chipolopolo team mates were present at church because they were in camp preparing for this Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, adding however, that he had extended an invitation to the Football Association of Zambia officials and was hopeful that they were going to be present at the reception at Sandy’s Creations later in the evening.

And Lusaka’s Nyumba Yanga-based Bethel Christian Centre bishop, Andrew Mwenda who based his message on Proverbs 17 verse 17 and John 15, urged the newly-weds not only to become husband and wife, but that they should become best friends as the Bible categorically stated that true friends in marriage sacrificed their lives for each other.

Bishop Mwenda said he was aware that Stoppila and Gift had best friends, but that with effect from yesterday, their respective best friends were “relegated” to third position.

He observed that Stoppila was a football star, but that soccer had an expiry date and thus advised the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations scorer of the winning goal that gave Zambia the country’s first ever Africa Cup title, to start building his life with effect from yesterday.

He urged the couple’s relatives and friends to help him in that area, but also cautioned relatives to the newly-weds not to become a burden to the young couple, saying Stoppila and Gift had become an “Independent Government”.

Zambians involved in creation of Ancient Egypt?

73

ancient egypt

Has an article instantly so profoundly changed your life that you realize you are no longer the same person you were minutes or half an hour before the event? The pivotal moment for me was Friday May 10 from 8:05 to 8:45am. I was supervising my students who were quietly taking their two hour final examinations. I scrolled down my e-mails and saw my friend’s name with whom I rarely communicate. The e-mail said read this attached article which I have just published.
The journal article that Dr. Chisanga Siame had just published was titled: “Katunkumene and Ancient Egypt in Africa” from the Journal of Black Studies of 20 March, 2013. As I was reading it, I realized that it was providing possible definitive proof for the first time that I, my ancestors, we Zambians and Africans were the founders of ancient Egypt. The ancient civilization of Egyptian Kingdoms headed by powerful Pharaohs dominated North Africa and the Middle East for almost two thousand years from c 3100 to 1090 B.C. E.

This was before Assyrians, Persians, the Babylonian Empire, Greeks, and Romans occupied Egypt. This was also before Christ. The Egyptian civilization was the first to create a large empire, establish writing using hieroglyphs, large scale political economy, the bureaucracy and built the sophisticated massive pyramids.

Europeans and their scholars for a long time have denied that any Africans were involved in the Egyptian civilization. Their argument was that if they built the Egyptian civilization, where are those same Africans and their descendants to day?

What excited me the most is that Dr. Siame had cracked the code which was hiding right under our noses. He found out that the Bemba term uku tunkumana about two thousand miles away South of Egypt may have descended from the name Tunka Men the name of the ancient kingdom of Sudan suggesting a connection between the Bemba of Zambia people and ancient Egypt.

Dr. Chisanga Siame also discovered that his clan Namwanga the name of Siame in Zambia may be traced back to the Kings of ancient Egypt named Pharaoh Siamen who ruled in Egypt from 986-967 B. C. E. As I was reading, I was getting more and more excited. I felt like calling all my relatives, my friends, President Sata and President Kaunda of Zambia, or Oprah Winfrey or President Obama, Nelson Mandela or any African who could listen.

Dr Siame found connections between “the mushabati of the Silozi language of Western Zambia and the word umhlabathi found in Sizulu and SiXhosa” in South Africa (p.265). Both could be traced back to the Egyptian Pharaohs burial practices.

He also found out that the use of Nya prefix to denote a woman among my own tribe the Tumbuka, as is NyaBanda or NyaNkhata, may have come from ancient Egypt when our ancestors lived there.

At this time you may be asking so many questions just I did. How did Dr. Siame come up with this knowledge? Why this information didn’t come from important famous big name scholars with big grants from Europe especially Paris and London? May he Harvard? Isn’t this an internet hoax? The answer is simple but also complicated.

Dr. Chisanga Siame graduated with a political science degree from University of Zambia in 1976. He obtained his Ph. D. in Political Philosophy from NorthWestern University. These degrees did not prepare him to do this research. He had to study on his own for many years mastering hieroglyphs, looked at the work of Egyptologists, and especially that he focused deeply on studying philology, and then the morphology, phonology, semantics and syntax of language. There is so much information in his short 20 page published article. He had to work very hard for many years on his own in a very solitary way to make these discoveries. He could not get any grant for his research.
