The two men who recently purported to be Bishops from the Living water church international-Sesheke branch have been sentenced to two and half years in prison with hard labour by Monze magistrate court charged on three counts of obtaining goods by false pretence contrary to section 309 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Appearing before magistrate Davis Chibwili was Lewis Chewe 40 and Clifford Chisha 31, both of plot 1044 Chawama compound house number 10942/320 in Lusaka.

Particulars of the offence in count one are that Lewis Chewe and Clifford Chisha on July 2,2011 in Monze, jointly and whilst acting together with intent to defraud, obtained buiding materials valued at about K6 million from Cecin Munenga of Classic General Dealers by falsely pretending that they will pay for them using a valid cheque when infact not.

In count two,Particulars of the offence are that Lewis Chewe and Clifford Chisha on July 2,2011 jointly and whilst acting together with intent to defraud, obtained 100 X 50kg empty bags altogether valued at K2.4 million from Armed Adam by falsely pretending that they will pay for them using a valid cheque when infact not.

And in count three,Particulars of the offence are that Lewis Chewe and Clifford Chisha on July 9,2011 jointly and whilst acting together with intent to defraud, obtained 100 single blankets and 2 double blankets altogether valued at about K7.6 million from Armin Moomba by falsely pretending that they will pay for them using a valid cheque when infact not.

The two accused persons pleaded guilty when they appeared for plea and admitted to the charges.
In their mitigation, Lewis Chewe told the court that he is on Anti-Retroviro Therapy and both asked for the court’s leniency considering that they are married and bread winners in their families.

However, in his judgement, magistrate Chibwili said being first offenders, the two accused persons are entitled to some leniency but regretted that the offence committed has become prevelent in Monze community where crooks such as the accused are using the name of God in vein and to disadvantage hard working members of the community.

Magistrate Chibwili said the courts will not look kindly on those who wish to behave in the manner that the accused did and sentenced them accordingly.

In count one, both accused persons have been sentenced to two and a half years in prison with hard labour with effect from July 2, 2011.

In count two and three, Clifford Chisha has been sentenced to two and half years with hard labour with effect from July 2, 2011 and his sentences in count 1,2 and 3 will run concurrently.

Meanwhile, the court has discharged Lewis Chewe in counts 2 and 3 after state prosecutor Akamonwa withdrew the charges in terms of section 88a of the CPC.

  1. The 2 years slapped on these criminals is not enough. At least a 5 years would have been better. People need to work hard rather than stealing.

  2. What tribes are these two thieves, Chewe and Chibwili? They are bishops in Sesheke, live in Chawama, Lusaka but went to steal in Monze. Typical crooks.

  3. Just imagine, these are the guys Zambians want to entrust with the responsilbility to run the affairs of the country. Zambians we are safer in the hands of RB

    • They have learnt to be tricksters from the MMD govt. It is so scandal-ridden such that a lot of people in the country are also poisoned.
There is no order and respect for the rule of law by rupiah and his govt.
If the govt was serious about fighting crime, could it have removed the abuse of authority from the ACC Act?
This is one of the many reasons rupiah and his cronies have to be removed from power.

  4. #4, did these culprits already file in their nominations? I did not know about their political ambitions until you said it here!!

  5. @4, please spare us with your foreingner!!! NOT ALL WHO CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD ARE GODS CHILDREN BECAUSE EVEN THE DEVIL KNOWS GOD!!!

  6. How about that lady who was a deputy minister who bounced a cheque but never went to court to face her legal obligations? Why jail these when others are getting away with it?

    • Yes I remember that case. Some MP from Mkushi. All animals are equal,BUT some animals are more equal than others, unfortunately thats how it goes.Shame

  7. #11 Pulamasaka,# 12 Chama Chakomboka (can’t even use a name from your kama tribe) and #15 Mugolegole. Why is that twits like you always demonise the entire Bemba tribe when someone with a Bemba sounding name does something untoward but keep quiet when some low life from your tribes does something similar? Are you telling me everybody in England is a thief because of the recent looting? What shallow thinking is that?

  8. Well done the honour the magistrate of Monze Mr.Davis Chbwili! Justice has been served. # 21 Mutale Chikwanda, I concur with you, what if we decided to demonise all men from eastern province based on the story of the intelligence officer in Mazabuka who shot his wife and himself? #11 and 12, stop showing your narow mindedness on this blog! You are such twits! All lawless human beings, including Rupiah who lies in his affidavits will consequently face the law!

  9. But I will never forgive RB if he allows Sata to win because theft in public officers will be ten times than in chiluba error.

  10. Imwe guys every tribe has criminals. The issue here is not the tribe but the tutemba churches that have mushroomed in the recent past. A story is told about a pastor’s wife who would get some items on credit from a certain businessman and would always tell him to come for his money on monday morning. why monday morning? The answer is simple. The debt was to be paid from the church collections the previous day.

  11. bembas even blind street people are the most found pretending to be asking for bwafwilisho meanwhile they are busy oganising crime.
