Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) president Charles Milupi has urged the police to handle United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema’s case professionally.
Mr Milupi, who was part of the UPND leader’s delegation at the police station during the questioning session, said this is so because seemingly, the case is being engineered from high-ranking officials within Government.

“Let me be very clear that the defence of democracy and constitution is the responsibility of all of us. We are here, we have left what we were doing to come and stand by the president of UPND because we believe what is at stake is just not him but the whole democratic process in this country.

“Listening to the charges that have been read out, in my mind, it’s very clear there is a lot of political pressure. We have seen statements in the press today (yesterday) where threats of being taught a lesson have been made. This is very sad because what can happen to one can happen to all of us,” Mr Milupi said.

But Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela dispelled reports that the police were acting on instructions from the State to arrest Mr Hichilema. She said Police operate professionally as they investigate a case before they can summon and arrest an individual.

And after the interview which took over two hours, Mr Hichilema said that it went on smoothly despite taking long. He said he will wait for the next course of action from the police. Mr Hichilema thanked all who turned up at the police to give solidarity.

“The interview was alright and our position is we should keep our legal rights, our rights, our constitutional rights to do things but I will not say more,” Mr Hichilema said.

And MMD treasurer Mwansa Mbulakulima, who was also present to give Mr Hichilema solidarity, said all Government institutions should operate independently. He said it is his sincere hope and prayer that the police will continue to operate independently.

And slogan-chanting cadres caused traffic congestion on Independence Avenue from the Supreme and High Courts roundabout when Mr Hichilema arrived for interrogation. It was the same when Mr Hichilema and his entourage of UPND members of Parliament and leaders of other political parties left the Service Headquarters after interrogation.

The chanting UPND cadres circled Mr Hchilema’s vehicle resulting in the convoy moving slowly to their party’s secretariat about 2kms away in Rhodes Park.

  1. We must have independent systems in place which will serve you today, tomorrow and forever. Lets be professional.

  2. But again in as far as we all have rights, we must make sure that we do not abuse our freedom. If you look at the Zambian watchdogg website today you will see that UPND is abusing the freedoms given by the constitution. Hatred, lies and manipulative statements are flying around in the name of freedom of the press. We know it is democracy which is the rule of law. If the Police deny you a permitt please confront the police to state why but not sent the already troubled youth as surcrificial lambs in order to gain popularity. HH is using 1964 tactics to gain popularity for 2016 elections. It is seems the rest of Zambia is growing except UPND and HH. What fails me even more in the embracing of william banda who even the MMD have rejected.

  3. Milupi is a leader of a small party with no significance in the wide and breath of our land. The police should cage this little brat (Hh)with an inflated ego about himself. Hh thinks this is somalia where lawlessness is the order of the day as he commandeers his ah shabab terorrists cell.

  4. when making comments avoid being trivial, tribal and shallow minded. The world is one global village and we should condem injustice with the highest level of rebuke it deserves. wrong can never be right. HH has right to speak like a politician. We have seen and heard others using worse langauge compared to what HH has said.
Let peace prevail for the sake of the nation, our children, national development.

  5. Mwansa mbulakulima belonged to a ruthless regime which could have not tolerated the nonsense this boko haram terorrist (hh) is treating zambians to everyday. HH you are lucky SATA is a very, very, very gentleman and democrat. In the last 4 regimes, you would be luck to breathe the next day yapping cowdung you do.

  6. Boma Ni Boma.Uzakambila kusogolo!!!.The character HH first boasted and then blasted Katanga now he wants sympathy over the remarks he made. What professionalism is Milupi talking about?.Grow up HH.Zambian is bigger than any of us.

  7. I was about to poke fun at Mr. Milupi because of the silly headline where he appears to be stating the obvious (treat the case professionally), but then what he says about EVERYONE’S democratic rights being under threat makes a lot of sense. Well done, Sir! Even the PF cadres jumping up and down about CNP need to understand that their rights to freedom of speech and association are also under threat as they could be the ones being harassed next.

Certainly, Mr. Milupi makes a lot more sense than ZP who can only pretend they are not acting on instructions from Government when we all know GBM told them what to do. How pathetic is that?

  8. That is the way, no intimidation. HH & other well meaning opposition, this is the way to go. Tell them & that is when PF will know that Zambians are wide awake. Viva HH. Tell them, indeed chimbwi no plan! Ukwa.

  9. But Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela dispelled reports that the police were acting on instructions from the State to arrest Mr Hichilema. She said Police operate professionally as they investigate a case before they can summon and arrest an individual.

DEFENCE Minister Geoffrey Mwamba has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Stella Libongani, to thoroughly investige allegations by United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema that Government is planning to send youths to Sudan for military training. This is our so-called professional Police.

    • Exactly, and how long did it take ZP to do their “professional investigation”? Less than 24 hours, right?

So I guess they’ve really improved…. last time I reported a crime, they asked me to buy talk time, fuel, and paper for the report!

  10. That was a great move by the opposition.Take care of each since u all have the common cause.(To check the useless government of Micheal Chimbiw No Plan).

  11. If the PF are truly serious about not wanting their leader, Sata, being likened to Chimbwi no Plan, they should devise a plan for him. A workable plan acceptable to the majority of Zambians. I mean, if all he does is shouting “Pamberi e ZANU-PF, Pamberi e Jongwe” at foras attended by other regional presidents or muppets around like the masalamusi he displayed in Zimbabwe leaving Zambians awe striken, provoking jaw-dropping reactions etc, then he ought to be content with being dubbed “Chimbwi Ukwa No Plan”. To me, Chimbwi Ukwa No Plan is actually a serious understatement, Sata is SICK IN THE HEAD, PERIOD!

  12. Police biasness & brutality was not right under MMD but right under PF. I think we are in a jungle where there are no rules & laws. HE MCS has the right to call someone UNDER 5, Cabbage, etc but not vice versa, SHAME, SHAME ON ALL U ZAMBIANS!

  13. # 7 Tony Blair. Your president was embarassed in UK as he met protests against his presence in UK. One of the two with Srilankan president wanted on charges of genocide were humiliated as other leaders read placards dennouncing them for dictatorship and repression of their own people. I was ashamed as a Zambian with our current head of state. We have had 4 former presidents and non of them faced protests while in a foreign country, not even Chiluba the thief. This is your leader referred to as a gentle man. You must have taken leave of your senses. Heard CHIMBWI NO PLAN ?

  14. I don’t GBM gave any instructions to police. For the police to act there must be a complainant. In this case government, through GMB who is the Minister of defence, complained over what HH said because what he said borders on matters of state security. We should not expect the police to fold their hands just because the case involves an opposition politician. Professionalism on the part of police is not only seen to prevail when police are soft with politicians even when they are breaking the law. I have not seen pressure being exerted by government on police by the PF government in the same way it used to happen for instance under MMD. It is the opposition putting unnecessary pressure on police. Let police do their job.

  15. HH is a rich man without money. Wat mmembe said is true coz hh has de habit of claiming companies he doesn’t own,eg, manda hill, grant thorton etc.mambala sihalibe ndilama.mmembe is by far successful and very rich than hh maybe cow dung this mr ibu

  16. God bless you HH. You will sure rule one day. I can see it coming. Soldier on brother. The hatred is very evident

  17. Ba kci… How many people rejected by MMD were embraced by PF whenthey were in opposition? Musazi bwetuka bwetuka chabe!!

  18. Maybe the best advice to the Zambia Police iz to ignore HH and just let him do whatever he wants. All this sumoning to the police and subsequent cautioning of the oppozition leader are unnecessary, but just go on to bring the otherwize diminished party popularity to some lime light. The police are playing to Hakainde’z miscalculated game very well. The Zambian people are watching.

  19. Tony Blair above either you are a fool or was born in January 2012, because if you were around when you Sata was in opposition you coundn’t have written what you have written.Should I remind you how about Sata violet and undemocratic nature when he was in MMD and let alone when in opposition. Sata used to insult the late presdent Mwanawasa day in and day out for no apparent reason at all. But he was not arrested or questioned. He even went too the extent of forging a letter purpoting it was from Levy.

I wish to appeal to the ZP to be professional as opposed to follow instructions from PF on who to arrest.

  20. The Truth hurts there is nothing as painful as being told the truth that you have been trying to hide.it just like calling a prostitute at Hule they rely get pissed.

  21. #2, Ba NAREP leadership HAVE BRAINS. THEY CAN’T INVOLVE THEMSELVES IN THIS. HH SHOULD KNOW WHAT TO SAY IN PUBLIC AS NOT TO PUT THE COUNTRY’S RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER COUNTRIES IN JEOPARDY.

  22. Sata bu Chimbwii no Plan kaale ayamba, alah: 1. Appoints a bankrupt person – Panji Kaunda – to a Ministerial portfolio in clear breach of Zambian Law on the matter.
    2. Appointed 10 MPs instead of 8. Obviously we have a President that either did not know the Constitutional position on the same or does not know the difference between 10 and 8.
    3. Abolishes the office of Secretary to the Treasury also in clear violation of the Law.
    4. Effectively admits that he was involved in supporting Savimbi by accusing the MMD Government of the time (of which he was a senior member) of doing the same.

  23. 5. Demands a public apology from another head of state in clear breach of diplomatic protocol.
    6. Allows an opposition party in Malawi to open a radio station in Zambia in clear breach of SADC and AU principles on interference in another country’s internal affairs.
    7. Demands payment of a US$ 260 million debt from bankrupt Zimbabwe. This is not a bad thing. But, does he really expect to receive this money from a country with no money.
    8. Stops the sale of copper for two weeks while “systems” are put in place to monitor sales and suspends it two days into the programme claiming, probably dishonestly, that systems are already in place to monitor copper sales.

  24. 9. Asks the Chinese Ambassador to open a letter from a fellow Head of State and read it to him in public. Apart from being very bad manners – this is another very serious breach of diplomatic protocol. 10. Starts an inquiry into the sale of Finance Bank and then stops it two days later. Probably realised that a proper investigation would have correctly implicated “friends” of wrongdoing in the affairs of Finance Bank. 11. Still have no Governor of the Bank of Zambia – obviously oversight of the monetary affairs of the country is off little importance to our President. 12. Re-names three airports and two public buildings without a Cabinet Memorandum being sent to Parliament and allowing a Gazetting period to occur.

  25. 13. Contradicts himself when he says he is creating a 10th Province to streamline costs. I mean how does creating another province with all the short and long term bureaucratic costs amount to streamlining ? At the very least, I think he should have asked for a feasibility to be done to see what the cost implications are. But, maybe that is too difficult for him. 14. Announces the move of the capital of Southern Province from Livingstone to Choma again without any assessment of the cost and administrative implications or consultation with the people who live in the Province to see what effect it would have on their lives.

  26. 15. When meeting the Archbishop of Canterbury, effectively slights China by saying that the previous government made a mistake with it’s look East policy. Another SERIOUS breach of diplomatic protocol and common sense. I mean in this day and age, does it make sense to look to the bankrupt West instead of cash flush China…..
    16. Starts an inquiry into the sale of Zamtel and then effectively ends it by declaring it “corrupt and fraudulent”. Commission of Inquiry has not been dissolved. But, I see little point in it continuing since Sata has already delivered a verdict on the matter.
    17. Guy Scott effectively admits that his President is a dictator by saying he breaks laws first and asks Parliament for permission later…

  27. 18. Accuses RB of being involved in the fraudulent sale of gold by the DEC. Subsequent events have proven that everything was done above board and correctly.
    19. Four most senior Cabinet posts – Foreign Affairs, Finance, Defense and Home Affairs – are all headed by Bemba speakers. Whilst it is the prerogative of the President who he appoints to Cabinet positions, in practice most Zambia Presidents have been very culturally sensitive in appointments to these Ministries as a means of ethnically balancing power in the country. This obviously does not matter to Sata. Just the fact that to maintain power he needs to control force of arms and money. As such, for him it makes all the sense in the world to have tribesmen in these positions.

  28. 20. My favourite one of the lot – creates a new amalgamated Ministry of Labour, Sports, Youth and Gender to ostensibly cut costs – which is a good thing. The, needing to curry favour with North Westerners, separates Gender from this portfolio and promises to appoint Sarah Sayifwanda Minister. When it comes to the actual appointment, he only makes her a Deputy Minister. Realising this blunder, Sayifwanda laudably refuses to take up the post. In a fit of rage, Sata then says the Ministry will be headed by a PS – in clear breach of the Law on the creation and operating on Government Ministries. There is the not so small matter of contradicting himself on cutting costs by creating another government ministry.

  29. GOD BLESS HH..let them arrest you or throw you in Jail, but one day you will come out vindicated.

    One Zambia one nation.

    • Vindicated over what? His behaviour now is of a spoilt brat. He is doing wrong things to get attention. If you have noticed even the die hard supporters he had in the party are no longer talking.

  30. pafwaka party and your chimbwi you have seen how painful it is felt when you call others names.you used to cal others nyama soya, garbbage etc. today it is your turn. you’ve bore yourselves children such as summer kambimbi, chimbwii etc. By there way when people call someone cobra, no one seems to get anoyd, but the other one is the one causing sparks. what is the defference.Infact HH didn’t call someone by that name, but he said, someone thinks like chimbwii. so in short here the skane thinks like this beautiful animal mentioned above. Both a cobra and the chimbwii are very beautiful animals. The chimbwii didn’t donate fuel to our neighbours, it is the mubobo which did only that at this time it was thinking like my beautiful animal mr chimbwii,

  31. Now, this was just 30 days of coming into power and you could clearly see all the Chimbwii no Plan hallmarks written all over Ukwa. If you were to extend that list today, is it not China we are talking about in terms of distance here! Sata can fool his fellow ignorant tribesmen saturated to the brim with tribal bigotry, he will not fool anybody else. As far as his record says, he is “Chimbwi Ukwa no Plan”, afuna siafuna! It even is an insult to the calculated prowess of the legendary scavenger-cum-hunter, Chimbwi, to be compared to such a loser.

  32. Calling the two immediate past leaders when they were incumbent president’s was Ukwa’s best trade mark, what is so special about him not to receive the same measure he used on his friends? The wise men from the have a saying for this situtation:”Chawamila mbuzi ku luma galu”!!

  33. The word in Khartoum today is one of hate for Zambia after we were awarded 3 points on the intentional oversight by Sudan national football team for using suspended Sail Ali. And this is the place Kabimba and GBM want to incognito want to send our boys to, to train with Janjaweed! This is treason, especially on the part of that Jaribu Mambwe.

  34. Zambian police are chimbwis with no professionalism. For istance in this case they were commanded by one fat boom boom to harass HH. Professionalism my foot!!!!

  35. Lies must not be shrouded in any political fuzz-up or some explanation of “figure of speech”. It is high time we looked at things the way they are. Most of us have been lied to by politicians for a long time but when a politician starts buying up mileage on allegations he better have a “Chimbwi na plan” to substantiate it! Good luck under age…

  36. Dont do wrong things and expect to be scort free.UPND chaps new that they were wrong and thought they will not be dealt with even if they misbehave. They went to an extent of trying to beat the police>The polce used “MINIMUM force”.Dont ever play around with BOMA.

  37. Milupi please tell hh to be respectful its mmd who its hurting more why is hh insulting the president also has rights but insults have never been a democratic right charles don’t embarrass yourselve please. How do you give moral support to something not moral.Ba president?

  38. Putting it very simply, Icilema should internalize the fact that he and his tribal party UPND are not popular political entities in Zambia. He needs to behave in accordance with the status of this unequivocal fact. Wanting to put on a jacket much too large and long for him can only make him fall down repeatedly. In fact my advice is for him to urgently throw in the towel and surrender UPND leadership to people who may salvage it from the death- throes in which it exists under him.

  39. Some of these presidents of little parties…..Milupi what are you talking about? What do you mean when you say they the police to handle HH professionally?Kondi mu Zambia tuli nama laws yangati? HH ana cimwa cabe the law must take its course,we advised the chap you cling to Sata and at least learn something ukalibe kupya iyayi, iyayi ntota cabe. What type of politics is this chap playing aya cinampofu…poor landing, big politicians hit hard but it becomes difficult for one to technically find an offence now him too shallow even young cops can see his nakedness in politics.

  40. Sata – “Asks the Chinese Ambassador to open a letter from a fellow Head of State and read it to him in public”  LMAO !!!!!!!!!!! @ Ngombala Muhapi wa Mafatsi Please write a short book with a collection of what Sata did and said.Don’t forget to add the accusations of weapons of mass destruction on the farm and a picture of him kneeling down to thank the people. Dramatic SataI’ll buy that book. >>>

  41. Anyway, food for thought for everyone:

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.Albert Einstein

So vote wisely! and lets hope amidst  all the chaos and concerns at the moment, it will bring awareness for change and that we can’t afford to make any mistakes.

  42. Yess it can happen to all of you if you dont respect elders, even in home your home ,can your wife tell you diwe chimbwi and you remain silent?

  43. HH has been losing his tongue to falsehood recently. Firstly, he calls PF which has a manifesto ‘chimbwi no plan’, while his own party failed to publish a manifesto before the September 2011 tripartite elections. Secondly, he accuses the government of sending militia to train in Sudan. This is an alarmist and treasonable statement as could lead to Zambia getting drawn into the war in Sudan! Did this afro keeping president of UP & Down think through this or he just bubbled over? Defence minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba was acting within his duties to complain and ask the police to investigate if HH actually made such a statement. If there is evidence, he actually should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law! Let’s see how many of those cadres will go with him to jail!

  44. Let HH just go to court and prove that it is correct to liken the president of the republic to a hyena! This MUST be very simple for this acclaimed rich and intelligent man! Secondly, I assume he also has evidence to show the number and names of young men being trained as militia in Sudan.

  45. Charles Milupi ‘s still one of the sanest voices in our country. Although he does not command popularity from tribal elements, he still remains an oak tree of political righteousness.

  46. If you want to know what is freedon of speech, see how Botswana does things. His excellency Ian Khama is insulted and accused of lies every day in the papers by the opposition, yet He is never moved ,.In fact He never responds. Why is PF getting flu when HH sneezes? Dr(Pasto) Mumba just accused Sata of Hiring assasins from Zimbabwe,Any response from PF,zeeeee! ala ba Mumba babemba.

  47. Failed Politician Milupi. Waishile ne chimwela pakulembesha ka party kobe. You no longer a factor in Zambian politics. Just join PF young man!

  48. Boko Haram and Banyamulenge commander aka under 5 aka ichilema. Seems the ghosts of all the zambians that he sent to their early graves after he and FTJ store privatisation money, are now haunting him hence this lunatic diarrhoea of the mouth by Boko Haram HH. Under 5 just sell your manifesto, talking about the president wont win you votes.

  49. Freedom has limits everywhere. Don’t dare others in your freedom and rights. All have rights, remember that. Without self check and go on talk anyhow, even insult other people who also have freedoms it does not work well. Respect of authority is important. Everyone respects his parents, poor or not, wise or not foolish or not, we all respect our parents. Why should politics be used as an area where anything goes? There must be morals, political economic, social, cultural, mathematically, historically, etc, morals still must be there. Thats the only way forward. Respect for others if you want others to respect you. If you do not respect them they will use any means to cage you, afterall it will be your faulty reasoning that everything goes. Observe limits in your political dispensations.

  50. Enough of this ka HH Under5 and his feeble minded youths, its taking the national nowhere, we can’t send a whole week talking about a useless political opportunist.

  51. @ 53 (MundiaM): Oh, yeah. The Manifesto, we nearly forgot….. Isn’t that the thing that says something about more jobs for the youth, free quality education, upgrading of all primary schools, providing a bursary scheme for tertiary education (now canceled), a computerized national health data base, crop diversification, massive road rehabilitation, construction of ring roads around major cities, creation of a wildlife and tourism training institute, promotion of good governance, reduction in value added tax, more money, subsidized electricity, new energy sources (including nuclear reactors!), free media, printing ballot papers locally, paying farmers on time, etc. etc.

How’s it going with that? You’ve got a little more than 4 years left and sounds like a pretty long laundry list!

  52. IN MODERN POLITICS, RULING PARTIES DO NOT PERCIEVE OPPOSITION LEADERS AS ENEMIES. I AM SURE MR SATA’S GOVERNMENT WILL BE STRONGER WHEN ZAMBIA HAS A STRONG OPPOSITION. ZAMBIA’S GROWN UP POLITICIANS NEVER USE BAD LANGUGE, THEY SPEAK SENSIBLY.

  53. What are you saying Milupi, tell the Police some thing they do not know, otherwise shut up. Your friend insulted the President how professional was he when he was insulting?.
He lied and almost alarmed the country how professional was he. Whether you like it or not his sins will follow him and he will pay for his sins. He is an *****.

  54. 7 days continusly talking about HH……GUYS LETS ADMIT THIS UNDER 5 ‘s heat is felt by PF..If not checked the under 5 may have even won many voiceless masses.PF need to fulfill its promises.HH,please tone down your language altho ‘chimbwi no plan’ is slogan not really an insult i think.

  55. Ngombal Muhabi Wa Mafatsi write a short sirtirical book about PF Sata’s hulla hoo excitements of power with disasterous madening decisions of PF govt. We pedge to buy the book for more money in your pockets. This is part of Zambian history.

  56. HH is so desperate. I think the money he wasted on fruitless compaigns is haunting him. Dear HH, its time you hanged your cloves, hand over the mantle to a mature person.

  57. HH, It appers to me that you are the one bahaving like a chimbwi. Chimbwi likes to eat game killed by others or by lions, so do vultures. Removing corrupt and no-direction MMD from decades of hold on misrule.was no small feat. Only a strong hunter could manage that. HH sounds envious of the PF spoils. HH if you are a real leader please show us your plan or do we have to wait until , maybe or if you become President??? I had asked HH how he would handle Zambia’s suffocating levels of corruption, at Play House (’08) meeting. It was very clear i had never heard such an un- researched and uninformed answer. Unless we as Zambians fully understand the effects of corruption and unite to fight this cancer no one leader will ever be effective. HH please untongolise UNPND for Zambia’s sake

  58. @ 16 we all know British are racists they think they are a superior race. Just because HE MCS seem to be supporting a person who got back land from their kin and kith they want to embarass him, ukokwine. See what they are doing to President Banda in Malawi about so called gay rights, abasungu kuti bamupange ifipuba, Mugabe balimufilwa like Castro.Today we need the Mugabes, Satas, Chevezs, Morales, Castros GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.
