Eyeing the Zambian Presidency

Dr Nevers Mumba
Dr Nevers Mumba

By Patriotic Zambian

Now that Dr Nevers Mumba is eyeing the Zambian presidency via the MMD structure, it will be very exciting and interesting to see events unfold in the next several months and years aimed at trying his leadership ability and skills

Most Zambians, at least, admire Dr Mumba not necessarily for being a politician, but for his fiery tele-evangelistic gospel messages that once jammed ZNBC television “Zambia shall be saved ” program.

Presently, Dr Mumba seems to be floating on a high of self confidence, demanding and spelling-out what he feels should to be fixed in Zambia.

However, he has not laid out his problem solving “formation”, leaving it to us Zambians, to conclude whether his campaign efforts will be another hit or miss. [pullquote]does he have the answers to Zambia’s problems?[/pullquote]

Does Dr Mumba have what it takes to bring down PF to its knees or will he solicit the strength of other opposition political parties to score his intended victory? This is the question many political commentators are asking.

Is Dr Mumba eyeing plot one, just for the sake of changing government or does he have the answers to Zambia’s problems?

We all have an idea at least, about what Zambia’s problems are. Unemployment, a dilapidated educational system, corruption, a rotten judicial system, poverty, high crime and so on and so forth.

These problems aside, Nevers Mumba’s decision to run for plot one, will be an absolutely uphill battle. Unless God will reperform the David and Goliath story, this will be a total mismatch. Who knows what Dr Mumba knows now? Could it be faith, the things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen?

To those who are looking at things from the secular point of view, suggestions are that, Nevers has just stepped into an ever existing problem in the opposition front. The “lack of unity”.

Other suggestions are that, the greatest problem Dr Mumba will face in his race to plot one is, Nevers Mumba himself.

Some think Dr Mumba is an arch enemy to himself. He lacks diplomacy and sometimes makes the most sensitive comments at wrong forums.

This was exemplified by comments he made against the Democratic Republic Of Congo(DRC) when Mwanawasa was president and against the Zimbabwean government, not too long ago.

When his Lusaka apartment was broken into, he did not wait for a police investigation to be done, he concluded that it was the work of the PF government.

In all these allegations, Dr Mumba always claims to have hard evidence to prove his pointing finger .

If or when Dr Mumba ascends to the Zambian throne, what new thing should the ordinary Zambian expect apart from prepared speeches.

I guess at this point, Dr Mumba pretty much knows, he does not have the answers to Zambians pressing problems. To be fair enough at this point, not even the PF seem to have the answers.

Is Nevers trying to get to plot one as a savior of Zambia or does he just want an opportunity to have a shot at the presidency?

Should we expect a positive game change from Nevers or just take him as another public speaker with no plans in his book?

What are Mumba’s goals right now? What will he change if given the opportunity? Where will he find new investors if he comes on the scene? How will he drastically change the Zambian economy? If he is not promising money in the pocket like the PF promised, will he make it clear during his campaigns that, no money in the pocket?

Zambians are tired of change just for the sake of it, they want change that will bring real economic benefits at household or family level.

Zambians are tired of lies by past and present politicians. This goes for the future politicians too.

Zambians have been victims of campaign promises. Any new promises will be hard to accept.

There will be nothing new Dr Mumba will bring to the table to change the history of Zambian politics. Somebody has already written a chapter to the history he may want to affect.

He will not be the first youngest Zambian president as that was already fulfilled by KK who became the first at age 40 in 1964. Dr Mumba is now 52 years.

He will definitely not be the first born-again president as that was taken by Fredrick Chiluba in 1991.

Will he be the first president with a college or university education? Not at all, Mwanawasa already filled the spot.

He will not be the first either, to come from Chinsali with ambitions to be president. Late Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe and Kenneth Kaunda already hold the record.

If considered as just another religious radicle from Chinsali, this will not win him a spot either, Alice Mulenga Lenshina of the lumpa Church, stole the spot already.

Is Dr Mumba’s zeal , enthusiasm, passion and desire to lead Zambia going to come to pass or it will end in the Zambian statistical data- base as just a trial.

Will his run repeat what we already saw in many vibrant Zambians like, late Boldwin Nkhumbula, late Dean Mungomba, Late Anderson Mazoka, Tilwenji Kaunda, Hikainde Hichilema, Edith Nawakwi and so on and so forth?

These people eyed the presidency, but God did not think it wise to hand it down to them.

So,what really will be new about Nevers Mumba? None of the Zambian pastors or bishops or priests have endorsed him yet. We have not heard any excitement from the clergy, what statement is the silence telling?

Is Dr Mumba, really, in the plan of God to be a Zambian president? let us wait and see. Shalom.

  1. US IN DIASPORA WE WILL FORM OUR OWN POLITICAL PARTY AND FIND OUR OWN PRESIDENT, IT SEEMS THESE ZAMBIANS THINK ZAMBIA IS PERSONAL TO ORDER..HOW MANY TIMES ARE WE GOING TO CRY 4 DUAL CITIZENSHIP???

  2. Dr. Nevers Nonsense

He always starts things that he cant finish. Yes Zambia shall be saved but not by you, fake preacher!

  3. THIS FACK MAN IS NOT A PHD HOLDER PLEASE, THIS MAN IS NOT EVEN A MASTERS HOLDER, NOT EVEN A FIRST DEGREE. MUMBA IS NOT A DOCTOR, PLEASE PEOPLE WHO ADDRESS MR. MUMBA WITH A DOCTOR TITLE ARE VERY WRONG. WHICH UNIVERSITY DID THIS MAN WENT TO? MUMBA HAS NEVER BEEN TO ANY UNIVERSITY, MAYBE A TRADITIONAL OR WIZARDS UNIVERSITY. IS BETTER TO BE ADDRESSING THIS MAN  WITH A TITLE………. Tdr. Mumba (traditional doctor mumba)  or  Wdr. Mumba (wizard doctor mumba). Zambian People we are fools, how can a grade 12 without any university degrees turns a Doctor. Can someone chellenge this point.

    • Relax, don’t show your ignorance and do your research. He has a Bachelors degree in Theology, A masters degree in Political Science and an Honorary PhD from Flint Michigan. He is smart and educated. Let’s not take that away from him.

    • Ba so called Prof Mwansa your English is so bad just for an example look at this statement from your article “WHICH UNIVERSITY DID THIS MAN WENT TO?” If I were you I would write “Which University did this man go to?” Than your rubbish, go back to school and learn to write properly.

    • pastor mumba is better then your so called king cobra satana, not even grade 5,what leader is to leader you kaponyas not peaple with 100%thinking NO.

  4. #4 YOU ARE RIGHT. THIS IS MISLEADING. I CAN’T REMEMBER WHEN THIS GUY STARTED HIS FIRST DEGREE. I PERSONALLY THINK THE ONLY PEOPLE TO GO WITH SUCH PRE-FIX ARE MEDICAL DOCTORS. ONE CANNOT BECOME A MEDICAL DOCTOR WITHOUT GOING THROUGH FORMAL SCHOOL. BECOMING A DOCTOR IN ANYTHING IS NO JOKE-YOU SWEAT. BA MUMBA NIBA DOCTOR BANSHI BUSHE? M,AY WE KNOW, PLEASE?

    • He has an Honourary Doctorate of Theology from one of these USA Theological Colleges but Artisian of Instrumentation by Trade.

    • You lack knowledge too. who told you a doctorate only aplies in medicine? It’s common sense, get a little English dictionary for yourself and remember there are so many highly educated people who read this blog, think before you write.

  5. They are all the same (politicians) “Giving money and power to the government is like giving car keys and whisky to teenage boys.” i do not support any of them politicians

  6. This article is a waste of space. There’s nothing the author is talking about. Its just blah blah blah to nay intelligent mind.

For starters, Never Mumba will be representing the MMD party, so he will not be a one man party or the way PF and Sata were one. Nevers will be championing MMD policies. The MMd is too big and experienced to be a one person party. That’s how mature political parties operate. The NEC and the campaign team will manage the process.

Secondly the author cannot decide whether Nevers Mumba’s resource is only man’s ability or also, like any Christian, can pray for God to grant them wisdom. By this the author has faikled lamentably. God owns the earth and he does speak and answer prayers. So Nevers can draw on God.

  7. Nevers Mumba is a Doctor of Divinity. Many American preachers obtain this qualification from Theological colleges. Most colleges/universities offer these courses via distance learning hence so many of these preachers carry the “Doctor” title

  8. Prof. Mwansa #4 you are right.Mr Mumba has never been to any University all Academic College
at all.He may have attended Theology College iam not sure about that either. All i know is that he is a former Hillcrest Techinical Secondary School student in Livingstone and completed his Form five Cambridge Leaving Exams in 1978 and did not attend full National Service at the time in Ndola Camp[missed Goliath’s wrath and John Kaleza nakucheka, wadya kale]as he had achieved the rank of RSM[REGIMENTAL SURGENT MAJOR] in the cadet force so was either exempt or went straight to PRODUCTION.However anyone can have a title of DR.confered upon them by some universities depending on what they have achieved in life,eg in religion politics ,enviroment, fight for human rights including in Academic research.

    • He has an Honourary Doctorate of Theology from one of these USA Theological Colleges but Artisian of Instrumentation by Trade. I know this because he was my Pastor.

  9. I only hope HH reserved the Title of ‘CHIMBWI NO PLAN’ for this *****. It has been used wrongly, buit Im sure he can find something befitting Nevers

  10. Ba Nevers chipuba… Walilufya abengi iwe Dr. wabufi. We shall not allow you to mislead Zambia. Never! Over our died bodies.

  11. Imwe na mwe. ba Mumba ba Doctor in Theology. Its an Honorary Title. He didn’t even study for it, like Dr FTJ Chiluba

    • Dr. Chiluba’s PhD was also honorary from University of Malawi, Kaunda’s PhD was also Honnorary, so was Dr. Mwanawasa’s PhD. The only person who sat in class for his masters degree is Dr. Nevers Mumba. hahah…strange as it sounds.

    • At least u can see the issue,i was jus wondering wat those 2 guys were saying ….. he has an honory title jus lik FTJ , KK…

  12. The language I know it… I think I know in person the author,,, well spoken Tata. You know how to spell-out some pipo…

  13. The ‘Dr’ title is the in-thing in Zambia, it’s not only Mr Mumba who shamelessly claims to be a ‘Dr’, there are several others including his brother. They must realize that it is an insult to genuine PHD holders and medical doctors to foolishly claim to be a ‘Dr’. These quacks are no different from impostors. Too many pretenders in Zambia including some former presidents.

  14. From the comments above Nevers Mumba is a total none starter! MMD is in for a rude awakening. Anyway, MMD should have known that choosing the loudest trumpet does not lead to taking the presidency.

  15. People watchout for this man. Look back at his political life. How many times has this man been knocked down and he still rises to continue pursuing his political ambitions? An average man may have given up a long time ago. I am being reminded what Gamaliel said about the apostles in Acts 5.’… if what these men are doing is from God then no one will stop them.’
If what Dr. Nevers Mumba is doing is from God then no one will stop him. Noone belived in David before he slew Goliath. Only after Goliath was slain did people start composing songs in hid honour. He may have made mistakes in the past but he has certainly learnt fom them. It may not have been his time but his time will certainly come. Watch this space…

  16. IT Supprt No.2: Form ur own ka stupid political party in the diaspora,it will end up mu chimbusu waufwa mambala. Zambia has constitution if u want bring your foolish idea to be included in the constitution see how you will be disapointed. Continue being a refugee in the diapsora if you want and clean bazungu’s asses atleast us in ZED we are respected pipo call me ba boss, also i can drive a nice second hand car in diaspora wendafye muma bus, subways etc KWATA ORDER FULUNYEMBA

  17. Sorry guys though i ma not a Mumba supporter much i know is that the man studied abroad and for transparence sake can someone with more info share with bloggers please.
He was in the USA studying when you were busy insulting.

  18. He is only a Form 5 completer with some O Levels that were not good enough to take him to UNZA. He has no decent education above Form 5. Zambians must look elsewhere for a real brained leadership away from the current docile subjects in power.

  19. this crook has never been to any university .so stop abusing the title to such people.that doctorate came from university of magoye were the lecturers are doctor Hamaja, doctor Hachikabala, doctor hichinena,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  20. Nervous Nevers the lumpen what will happen if MMD is de-registered?. There is opportunism in you Nervous Nevers. Sata is Sata and is special. He was born a politician and he grew up a politician now you and Ichilema(the lame) you want to be presidents at the same time in 2016. All you know is to contribute negatively to the development of the country by daily condemning and criticizing what 1 Michael does. I salute VJ he is a matured politician not imwe ba kabwa!!!!!

  21. Pointless article. what a waste of space. And to imagine that some FOOLS here are busy insulting a man who has not done them any wrong! Amazing. Those insulting Nevers without cause, just imagine you are insulting your own father. Substitute Nevers’ name for your fathers’ and let’s see how it feels. Stupid fools

  22. He was at Hillcrest, and went to CBU for a diploma, though I don’t the point in this article.

  23. Quite fascinating, but Nevers has had a shot of leading a political party. He formed his own NCC and we all know what happened to it. He cannot do more than excite people with his articulacy and flowery language.
Nevers succeeded as a televangelist but will always be a political pariah having abandoned his flock for a few pieces of silver. It is this grave betrayal that has cost him the support of the Christian church.
Becoming MMD president has not energized the nation at large coz he is not viewed as a beacon of hope

  25. He is another fraud one of the strings of fraudsters we have had since 1991! Only Mazoka would have rescued Zambia, but the cheating MMD screwed up his electoral victory. Now see where we are as a nation. We are the last in citizens’ well-being in terms of opportunities in our own country while foreigners have it easy with government departments formed to ensure that foreigners achieve their dreams in all sectors.
If Mumba can cheat all Zambians that he has a PhD, them God have mercy on Zambia. He is as fake as cheese from chalk!!

  26. Rather interesting, but Nevers has had a shot of leading a political party.
Becoming MMD president has not energized the nation at large coz he is not viewed as a beacon of hope.

  27. Wait for Nervers in 2016.
He is the very reason why I am going to vote for now.
The crop of leaders on the market today do not inspire me, but Mumba does.
Miyanda does have what it takes to rule a nation too, but he does not seem to have the political transport to getting there.
The rest do not inspire me, and many Zedians have now lost confidence in their word.
They promise mountains but deliver the unknown.
That is what they are, TRUTH is far from them unles thruth is not what I know – keeping your word. They dont do that, but are ready only to get people’s votes by FALSE PRETENCE.
If that is Okay in Zambian politics, then Zed politics are bad.
Honesty and truth must return to Zambian politics. Both the top and 2nd were in MMD for 10yrs, yet we thought they were ….

  28. It’s a non- starter for Nevers! When he was leading the Victory Ministries in Kitwe he could not build even a church and the plot he acquired in riverside extention mearnt for the Bible college HQs was abandoned. The man failed to build and up to now his former members are still meeting at the once famous star-lite building. How do you expect him to develop Zambia if he could not plan effectively for the ministry he ran? Moreover, voting for Nevers means bringing back those MMD guys; who wants that? If the PF fails to deliver we shall try somebody else but of course NOT Nevers Mumba and his MMD.

  29. #26 Contd,
Yet we thought they were able to bring hope and better politics to Zambia as we condemned MMD.
Were we wise in our judgement? judge for yourself. I hope your judgement will be wise on this.
Falling prey to politians seems to be a hobby for most Zambians, why?
Maybe because we resign from thinking and let X think for us.
But X is not ready to think for us either, so what happens?
The same politicians grab the opportunity and think for us.
What do we get? dissapointment of course, as they retreat into their corners and lough aloud.
But who will help us? No one of course but ourselves.
Suppose we dont help ourselves, what will happen? Nothing will happen apart from what is already happening – continued dissapointments.
Is there hope? Yes but only if work up…

  30. Just another sanctimonious “has been” faith midget healer and revival preacher who takes pride in the money he squeezes out of the gullible people that follow him.

  31. Ladies and Gentlemen it is not about education it is all about Leadership. Can Nevers Mumba lead? The answer is NO Victory Bible Church or Victory Ministries is a big hopeless failure by Nevers Mumba in Zambia and Namibia.Let other men like Chipimo lead.I rest my case.Talk to all the people who worked with Nevers in the past they are unhappy it was a leadership of mismanagement.

  32. Its unfair to acuse nevers mumba of lacking diploma jst because wat hapened 7years ago. Ukwa has made more mistakes, undiplomatic, uneducated, unpresidential material but people wt phds voted for him. Wat wil then denia Nevers to be president?

  33. #26 Wisdom,we didn’t make any mistake and nobody is regreting anything as you may want to believe. You sound like a UPND sympathiser. Sorry, we can’t go for HH.

  34. It is not education you all fools in this forum. What we need is leadership.Bill Gates,Steve Jobs the list is endless men without useless titles and education who have contributed to humanity and left a mark.

    • Gates graduated from Lakeside School in 1973. He scored 1590 out of 1600 on the SAT and enrolled at Harvard College in the autumn of 1973.Please read Bill Gates Biography he is sharp, smart and intelligent, he dropped out of Havard by choice to pursue his dreams not because he failed .

    •  Following high school graduation in 1972, Jobs enrolled at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Reed was an expensive college which Paul and Clara could ill afford. They were spending much of their life savings on their son’s higher education. Jobs dropped out of college after six months and spent the next 18 months dropping in on creative classes, including a course on calligraphy.

    •  He continued auditing classes at Reed while sleeping on the floor in friends’ dorm rooms, returning Coke bottles for food money, and getting weekly free meals at the local Hare Krishna temple.[43] Jobs later said, “If I had never dropped in on that single calligraphy course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. Steve Jobs never failed in his education he was just not able to afford it at that time.

    • No 45, you are right, how many people out including some of the bloggers hold phds and yet can’t even manage there own personal life. Leadership is a gift, academic qualifications are only a bonus. There are so many companies around the world owned by people without a degree and have even employed of you who are more highly qualified than them.

  35. There is nothing interesting or exciting in MMD bwana patriotic person. MMD is as dead as a dodo, period.

  36. Just because you can criticize someone does not mean you can do the job better. Criticism is easy. We can all do it. So far, something HH and Dr.(?) Mumba have not done is tell us what plans THEY have. What is THEIR economic policy and strategy? What is their method of creating employment? What is their method of tackling crime? And so on? You won’t get my vote by telling me what is wrong with someone else. You will get my vote by telling me what you WILL do. Focus on your manifestos comrades. That is what voters will by, not your criticisms. Or are they also chimbwis with no plan?

  37. God is God, nevers will not rule Zambia he is walking with a devil. He wanted to use the name of God to achieve his ambition. Nevers will never rule Zambia.

  38. Nevers Mumba needs to come clean on how he acquired his Dr. degree honorary or academic. If he is going to run for President of the republic he must be truthful about his educational background. He needs to realise that people are much better educated that ever before. He needs to redeem himself if he has to be taken seriously as a credible national leader.

  39. Was really hoping to learn something from the writing above but met more questions than solutions!!!!
Was the aim just to ridicule N. Mumba? Speculative writing is as dangerous as ignorance! Some points in the writing are clearly WRONG far from actual facts. In places the logic is totally misplaced! :(

  40. i have great respect for Dr Mumba, i think his PR team needs to do a good job in marketng him i think he has  an MPA Masters in Public Administration from Regent Unversty in the USA, and an associate degree in theology from CFAN in the USA. if this is not true i would encourage DR Mumba to study for a degree before 2016, correspondence and also to study some economics.

  41. Presidents need to be intelligent and strategic as much as they have advisers they need to also be above board and evaluate intelligently what their advisers are advising them and also contribute intelligently.

  42. i know a lot of people are downplaying education, Zambians have reached a lot of awareness in politics and Dr Mumba’s supporters should not be upset if people ask all sorts of questions or criticize him they are just making him better by polishing up on areas in his life that need to be polished.

  43. Dr Mumba should be wary of flatters they have brought a lot of leaders down, he needs to develop a thick skin. Leadership is good even without education but leadership with education is even much better. God bless Dr Mumba and God bless Zambia

  44. There is no doubt that if you remove the tribal equation from our politics, HH is a far better prospect for Zambia than Nevers…by a mile! Unfortunately, they are those who believe that only one from their region can rule…what a bloody shame for Zambia!!!

  45. imwe naimwe ba Nevers, just go back and reorganise your victory minisries. politics is for metalbullets not rubber bullets like you.

  46. people of God let us concentrate on the matter at hand. why are diverting from the topic in the article. how about us what have we achieved so far. why condeming all the time. mind you when you are pointng something someone with one finger dont forget that three figure are pointing at you behind. and dont condemn someone based on their past mistakes we all make mistakes and learn from them. when a was a child i used to think like a child. and therefore there is no condemination to those who are in christ jesus. judge not. leadership is not all about university degrees which has failed us

  47. Dr Mumba is the man.He has my 2016 Vote come wht may.The writer of the article should see the work are doing with the ZWD.

  48. If God can use a donkey to send a message across, He can certainly use Nevers. Never say never in Zambian politics !

  49. It’s true, how many people out including some of the bloggers hold phds and yet can’t even manage there own personal life. Leadership is a gift, academic qualifications are only a bonus. There are so many companies around the world owned by people without a degree and have even employed of you who are more highly qualified than them.
