United Party for National Development (UPND) founder Anderson Mazoka’s widow Mutinta Mazoka has defended current UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s stewardship of the opposition party.
Mrs. Mazoka, who is UPND Pemba Member of Parliament, says there is nothing wrong with Mr. Hichilema’s leadership of the party.
UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has been accused in some quarters of destroying the party ever since he took over from late Anderson Mazoka.
Speaking to QFM News, Mrs. Mazoka says people should not expect Mr. Hichilema to run the affairs of the opposition party the same way her late husband used to run it because they are two different people.
She says there mere perceptions that the party is being destroyed under the leadership of Mr. Hichilema stating that the party is still intact.

They rejected him for no other reason than that he was Tonga. So to me they are tribalists. That is the proper definition of the word. HH has never mentioned the word tribe on public media or in any of his campaigns. He has never appointed along tribal lines. Now it is true that people like Sejan were practicing tribalism when they said only a Tonga can run UPND. I admit that. But HH had nothing to do about that and in fact he disciplined Sejan and others for those sentiments. Thats what a good states man does. Sata on the other hand has shown himself to be the most Triabalistic Zambian alive today. He is worse than Mugabe.

Yes you are correct but the reason UPND has lost MP’s is because of the Tribalism tag that Bemba’s have successfully stack to the UPND. Make no mistake about it, HH is a great leader. If you sat down one on one with him, you would come out wondering what is wrong with these Zambians who can’t seem to see a good thing even when it hits them right in the eye.
I have met Mrs. Mazoka and even her late husband before. She is as descent of a human being as you can get. I sympathize with her that her daughter is married to a formidable enemy of the Tonga people, and an enemy of Zambia as a whole. I don’t know how this happened but I blame it all on her daughter who was known to be a loose woman when she was in the Pittsburg area here in these united states of America. But back to the business at hand, I am actually one of those who believe HH is more qualified to run Zambia than Mazoka having a better pedigree. Thats not to belittle Mazoka’s abilities but this is to speak more about HH than Mazoka. He is actually one of VERY FEW Zambians that I can honestly say is better than Even ME. (Believe me that is quite a lofty statemen)

Running a political party is one thing & having qualities of leadership ie President is another. Ukwa is good at organising the grassroots/a political party but does he make a good President. No. William Banda is good at political marshalling; can he make a good President? I doubt. Its shameful to bring a non issue of political strength at the expense of national development. Significant changes in the country have only resulted when the NGOs & citizens came together ie like stopping of third term against Sata & Chiluba. So change in UPND doesnt resolve most national issues. Instead off the citizens should focus on Govt leaders to deliver. They are relaxed thats why they have increased there salaries before meeting basic expectations of there employers : voters
I have not real problem with HH and I think he would make a better president that our current leader. I feel for him now that he has come to the end of period he is allowed to lead as part UPND constitution. While I would have liked him to contest the next election as people who voted for SATA, me included, will have seen what a mistake we made. However if he does not follow the party’s constitution, he will be no different from HE Sata. The lack of respect for constitutions of political parties by their leaders is what makes them think the can flout the Zambian constitution and get away with it. Let UPND find a young leader who they can prepare for 2016 or 2021
The reason many want to put a tribal tag on HH is because they are scared of him. The only arguement the can marshall is tribalism, leave such arguements to street vendors, eagle eagles, kaponya’s and such like. These people are voters but the also need to be led as the have no capacity to even lead each other. Zambia has a multitude of interlectuals who if God was to be given the opportunity to choose this country can be the envy od all. But we give the deceiver to give us a laeder here we are.
The test of the pudding is in the eating. If Hakainde Hichilema were a good leader, the UPND would have made significant gains since he took over the reigns of power from Mazoka. Instead the party has shrunk from being a national party to a regional party. We know that Mutinta Mazoka was instrumental in getting HH succeed her late husband. She is now having to live with the reality of a decision that was largely her brain child. Saying that Mazoka and HH are two different individuals is a good way to rationalize. Not even the craziest person in the whole world would have expected HH to do things the way Mazoka did them. Indeed there is more than one way of skinning a cat. The real question is whether or not HH is able to skin the cat? How good is his record so far?

The decline of UPND started while Mazoka was alive. It has nothing to do with HH’s leadership qualities but the fact that most of the UPND followers switched to Mwanawasa when MMD ditched FTJ. Liato, Tetamashimba, Magande to mention but a few all decided to work with Levy. Bob Sichinga resigned from UPND while Mazoka was alive. Others like Given Lubinda and Henry Mutonga left the party when they realised Sata was gaining momentum in Lusaka since he was identified as Levy’s main challenger. I totally agree with Mrs Mazoka that HH has done a good job by manging to keep the party going under extremely difficult circumstances. HH’s time has come. He is doing a good job so far. Now is the time to prove what he is made of.
You CONVENIENTLY omit UPND zealot behaviour at late Andy’ funeral, WHICH WAS THE MAIN CATALYST FOR PEOPLE FROM OTHER PROVINCES DITCHING UPND – after being TOLD IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS, “ONLY A TONGA COULD LEAD UPND!!”

And in morden times business acumen is one of the key indicators of how smart one is. Mr. Hichilema is the most sucessful businessman in Zambia, and that is why he was top advisor to late Mr.Mazoka.
