THE MMD has said that it has not rescinded its earlier decision to suspend its members of Parliament (MPs) serving as deputy ministers in the Patriotic Front (PF) government.
National secretary Richard Kachingwe said the party stands by its earlier resolution to expel the MPs if they do not resign their positions in Government.
He said the fate of the nine MMD MPs will be known as soon as the adhoc committee constituted to scrutinize the exculpatory letters concludes its business.
Major Kachingwe said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that insinuations by some sections of the public that the party has rescinded its resolution to expel the MPs are false.
He said the party does not have an issue with the MPs serving in Government but questions have arisen on their loyalty to the party.
Major Kachingwe said the party expelled its Mufumbwe MP Steven Masumba for alleged gross misconduct and not because he is serving as deputy minister in the PF Government.
And Major Kachingwe has advised Mr Masumba against dragging his family into politics.
Major Kachingwe said his family members are free to work with any government and affiliate themselves to political parties of their choice.
He said this in reaction to Mr Masumba’s challenge to him to withdraw his son from the foreign service following the party’s resolution to expel MPs serving in the PF government.
But Major Kachingwe said Mr Masumba’s comments are misplaced as his children have nothing to do with his political career.
He said his children are independent and free to work with any government.
“In fact, my two other sons, one in Ukraine studying medicine and the other one in China studying civil engineering, when they complete their studies, they will come back to work for the PF government.
“They have an obligation to contribute to the development of this country regardless of the party in Government. So, Mr Masumba’s sentiments are misplaced,” he said.
Major Kachingwe said he does not practise politics of hate and advised Mr Masumba to accept the party’s resolution to expel him.

Masumba is dull and not fit to be a Minister any where in the World. He should be ashamed to make foolish statements in the press when all of us are doubting his intergrity after the fake Diploma he obtained from NIPA. Politics emraces everything, including embeciles!!

Come on Major our own Mwanawasa set a very good precedence by appointing MP’s from opposition parties and so lets not waste tax payers money by causing unnecessary bye-elections which you won’t even win anyway. Swallow your pride major and dialogue with your MP’s period.
I think MMD were asking for dialogue over the appointment of their MP’s which Sata ignored. So perhaps your advice is misdirected and should be forwarded to Sata.

The majority of leaders in MMD have no principles start from the current president. The current president accepted a post in government when he was in opposition. The former President Banda accepted a position in Government and later became a president. MMD want to be wasting the tax payers money. MMD party is suppose to be looking at ways and suggesting to the ruling government how poverty can be reduced in Zambia. MMD stop wasting Zambian resources and let those MP who want to serve in government serve the people of Zambia. If I was one of those MPs I would not resign. MMD woke up and help Zambia to reduce high poverty levels you caused. Stop talking about small things insteady of building your party.

Zambian politics crap.Nevers Mumba also ditched his party-National Christian Coalition-to take up position of Vice President.Today we are told Kachingwe’s son is serving in diplomatic service(not wrong but raises questions).The 9 MPs are also wrong for taking up deputy ministerial positions when PF has enough MPs in parliament who can take up the positions.

babylon 1: please check your facts right. Mumba did not ditch his party NCC. Mumba nad NCC joined MMD and he was given the VP position to serve. It is just fine that he has now come to lead the party he joined. Why do you want to twist the facts.

Please PF this revelation, that Kachingwe’s son is serving in the foreign service has just come at the right time. let us mop up the foreign service, it’s full of MMD’s children. Kachingwe’s son should be recalled immediately and be replaced. Zambia is not short of man power, why are you keeping these *****s in the foreign service. It is now clear that the MMD MPs serving as Deputy Minister to be located along the corridors or varanders of Cabinent Ministers, are economic mercenaries who have been hired for pieces of silver. The MMD must expel them from the Party to restore sanity on Zambian political landscapes. We pray that the South African Commissioner to Zambia will appreciate the plight of this nation.
MMD died the moment Kachingwe was elected SG for the party. Thi s man may have been a soldier but he has no stratergy nor mobilsation skills. Visionless and can not be entrusted with the work of running the paty. Get rid of him and find someone capable of running the party.
