Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba has asked the Patriotic Front government to repent and apologise to Zambians for allegedly failing to fulfill their campaign promises.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka this morning, Dr. Mumba says it is unfortunate that the PF raised false hopes in many Zambians with their 90 days political scheme, a situation he says poses a great danger to the country’s future.

Dr. Mumba has stated that if the civil society and the population at large do not demand accountability from government, it will be a blank cheque to all political parties to lie and cheat their way into government.
The MMD leader adds that President Michael Sata should come out clean on the 90 days pronouncement, adding that the state of the nation is critical and shows no sign of healing.

He has therefore demanded for an explanation from President Sata on how he plans to mitigate his alleged political blunders since assuming the Presidency.

And Dr. Mumba has accused President Sata of having no respect for the Evangelical Movement by referring to its Pastors and Bishops as self ordained.

Dr. Mumba says President Sata’s attitude towards the church clearly shows the lack of respect and interest to work with the church.

He has further stated that the President has turned against the Catholic Church whose support the PF solicited greatly before last year’s election.

Dr. Mumba has since called on the President to show respect for the church in the country.

I think only a fool can vote on the premise that Sata would develop Zambia in 90 days. If your personal projects are not fulfiled in 90 days what more country development? We waiting for the 5 years to finish and at the end of the 5 years Zambians shall guage PF whether it has delivered or not. Not this useless 90 days talk.

    • Colleagues, I think all of you are blindly misguided over this issue. In as much as the opposition can offer alternative solutions, it is incumbent on the Govt to outline its policies and roadmap on implementation of the same so they can be measured in terms of success. The opposition can CHOOSE to offer alternatives ways of development and delivery of service or simply just make noise against Govt…at their own peril of course or indeed lie to the electorate as the case was in the PF situation. However, in the final year of term, all serious political parties will need to have manifestos upon which they will base their campaigns. The Govt can call cross party dialogue on certain issues in which case the opposition should respond responsibly. I know most of you can do better than the abov

  9. Dr. Nevers Mumba, just finish your repentance and asking for forgiveness as MMD and please try to separate the State and the Church!!! Your press statement does not to seem to flow logically, what issues were you addressing, simply haranguing the PF Government???? It will take better strategies than that to propel yourself into State House. I had expected you to comment on state of affairs in your Party, especially in Western Province to assure your members or something!!!! In addition, you could have assured the nation that you have now started clearing your debts with Registrar of societies etc, work on your image and dont just attack Government!!!!

    in the areas of education, health services, social justice and good
    governance.
    In order to enhance the role of the Church and its relationship with the
    State the PF government shall:
    • Work hand in hand with the Church to enhance the social and
    economical development of the country;
    • Ensure that the Church provides spiritual guidance in State affairs;
    • Harmonize the relationship between the Church and the State;
    • Harmonize the relationship amongst and between various Church
    organizations;Promote social justice and good governance in collaboration with
    the Church;
    • Support the church in providing social services.

  18. Mr. Mumba, we will gladly listen to your plan but we need you to tell us what it is. We have been told over and over that chimbwi has no plan. What we want to hear now is, what is your plan? To continue pointing at chimbwi without outlining your own strategies and policies? You won’t win my vote that way. Give me an agenda, a plan, a roadmap, something to work with, something that will convince me that besides noting that chimbwi has no plan you infact do have a better plan.     Why doesn’t the MMD apologies to the registra of society for wasting his time? Why doesn’t the MMD apologies for the corruption under the Ala Bee’s government and most recently during the elections campaigns?

    • In fact part of MMD’s rebranding exercise should be ‘to offer constructive criticism and not just antagonizing the ruling party at every given opportunity’ as well as ‘telling the Zambian people what the MMD can do better if re-elected in 2016’.

Ba Mumba we are still awaiting your apology for the repentance you sought without articulating what you sought forgiveness for then you shall be at liberty to ask the PF to act likewise after you! In the mean time explain to us how shall infuse yourself to encrypt your MMD Manifest to your ideology, give us your Road Map for Zambia on how you intend to execute your stay in Plot 1.
    In the mean time your litmus test needing your indulgence and explaining how:
    – You intend to create Employment in the short to long term, forecast and your strategies.
    – Education in its entirety
    – Your Governance System and Fiscal Policies, which will boost the government, Treasury through Taxes from these so called Mining Investors and Forex Market strategies to stabilize the Kwacha .

    • – You will curb in the short term to long term plan the Power Generation in Zambia to mitigate the short falls in the sense of load shading and how you intend to curb the mismanagement and lack of planning at Zesco.
      – You intend to bring discipline in the Civil Service and general order in the appointment of Boards in the Parastatals to make them viable and remove party the ruling party carder appoints.
      – Food Security by way of Peasant Farmers Input support programs through to Marketing and Sale, to avert what transpired with the Cotton Farmers and this Maize Buying System mugged by inefficiency and lack of planning.
      – Credible Investment, what are your strategies than these bogus investors paying us peanuts and evading the much needed tax.

    Opposition political party leaders are failing to gauge the mood of the people in Zambia. We want an opposition that is ready to work for the people of Zambia by offering constructive criticism. The 90 days pronouncement will not be used to measure the PFs’ five years rule. If as one blogger has stated roads are built, constructionof new housing units for civil servants continue, medicines are supplied in hospitals, fertiliser in-put support programme is well managed and reasonable employment is created, Sata will not even need to dish out lolli pops! We are looking at opposition parties telling us how they will reduce poverty levels in Zambia and not the hullabaloo!

I was indeed impresed when the UPND youths searched the PF police before allowing them to enter UPND premises, that is the way to go.   59. @ One Love, whether pf has been only in power for one year or less as Zambians can confidently declare that Pf is heading the country for doom & terribly disatster if they dont change their aproach to governance.
