MMD concedes defeat and congratulates PF in Mufumbwe-bye election

Steven Masumba for Patriotic Front (PF) lifted by PF cadres on his way to file for nomination

The ruling Patriotic Front candidate in the Mufumbwe by-election Stephen Masumba has retained the seat after a landslide victory in yesterday’s bye election. Masumba defeated MMD’s Stafford Mulusa after polling 8072 votes against Mulusa’s 5422 while UNIP candidate managed 168.

Celebrations have since broken out in Mufumbwe boma with PF cadres dancing and singing with other hooting.

MMD Elections Chairman Gabriel Namulambe conceded defeat and congratulated the PF for the victory.

Meanwhile, the UPND congratulated Mr Masumba for retaining the Mufumbwe seat.

“We would like to also congratulate Mr Stephen Mulusa for having given Mr Masumba the best fight he could afford. It is a sweet victory for Hon Masumba because as they say, the harder the battle, the sweeter the victory,” a statement from the UPND said.

“We would like to urge all candidates to now bury their ideological differences and ensure that the people of Mufumbwe are adequately and properly represented. Congratulations once more to the PF and Mr Masumba for a well deserved victory.”

  9. The writing is on the wall, MMD and UPND are going into oblivion. Politics of bitterness has no place in Zambia. The people of this great country want development and improved standards of living not selfishness, tribalism and baseless criticism by clan leaders and pastors with no focus. If the bitter opposition is still in doubt the PF will be in power for the next 100 years watch the space.

    • Its just that the camers picked ba Hon Masumba pa critial moment but he was with another minister from the MMD Richard Taima and Nevers did not reprimand him in public. This selective justice will not help us. The two were very engaged in a chikokoshi with a dancing queen. Nevers only had Masumba in mind to punish but is willing to accept Taima.

E.G. the DOG reported that PF cadres were killing each other in Rufunsa and never attributed the death to political violence. What was the so-called donation by the HH boy of beasts in Mufumbwe for?   87. Mufumbwe is a rural outpost & is not a decisive indicator of the political sentiment in the country. Without sounding disrespectful, rural folks are easily susceptible to manipulation by the ruling party’s promises of development. Before dismissing another MP, the MMD should carefully weigh their prospects to retain a seat. Had MMD been magnanimous enough to allow UPND to contest the seat, the opposition could have been celebrating victory now.

  95. So the combined support membership for UPND and MMD as less than 6000, I wonder why the 2 leaders of the opposition were claiming that they were more popular than PF. If UPND had contested the elections, the margins would have shrunk further. Nevers should show some leadership and stop the witch hunt in his party before the numbers in parliament shrinks further. The problem with MMD and UPND caders is that even if u tell them that the sky is blue, they’ll refuse and can even kill u. Zambian politics is nolonger about making noise anyhow. Change yo style of politics coz u’re dealing with a very experienced politician.

AND NOW I AM SURE THESE OPPOSITIONS ARE THINKING IF THEY SHOULD EXPEL THEIR MP`S WORKING WITH PF OR JUST IGNOR THEM. IT IS A BIG LESSON, BUT HH WALITUMPA PAKUPELA AMASHILU AYATEKELE IMYAKA 20 ICIPUNA CENU. I FEEL FOR YOU. DON`T YOU AGREE WITH ME THAT THAT SEAT BELONGED TO YOU? HOW DO YOU EXPECT MMD TO WINN? YOU THINK PEOPLE IN THAT PLACE HAVE NOT FEILT THE IMPACT OF MMD`S STUPIDITY?

  104. IN NORTH WESTERN PROVINCE THOSE WHO WANT TO BE IN PARLIAMENT IN 2016 SHOULD CONSIDER JOINING THE RULING PARTY .
    PEOPLE LIKE TAIMA CAN RESIGN FROM OPPOSITION TO PF SO THAT WE HAVE ANOTHER RULING MP IN THE PROVINCE ,THE OTHERS ARE DULL THEY CANT SEE THE WIND OF CHANGE.
