Dean at Rusangu University arrested for using forged documents to gain employment

Share

Police in Monze have arrested the Dean for the school of Science and Technology at Rusangu University for allegedly using forged documents to obtain employment at the institution.

Police sources disclosed to ZANIS in Monze today that 47 year old Donald Siame was arrested on Monday after a tip from informers that he had forged qualification documents which he purported were obtained from London.

Mr Siame purported to have a bachelor’s degree and a masters in agriculture sciences and was employed by Rusangu University as dean of science and technology.

When questioned by the police, Mr Siame admitted having not obtained the documents from the University of Zambia (UNZA) and a docket of forgery has since been opened against him for further investigations.

Police sources told ZANIS in an interview that information reached when students of Rusangu University in the department of agriculture sciences complained that he was not lecturing properly and suspected he was not qualified to handle the department.

Mr Siame is currently detained in police custody at Moomba Police station in Monze pending establishment of sources of the documents so that those involved may also face the wrath of the law.

Mr Siame joined Rusangu University in 2010 to date and has been getting a salary and other entitlements using forged qualification documents.

Meanwhile, one person has died in a road accident while others sustained injuries after a Toyota Hiace Minibus registration number ALC 2973 they were travelling in overturned near Munangandu farms.

The accident happened about four 4 kilo meters away from Monze on Monday around 17:00 hours due to over speeding by the driver of the bus which was heading to Mazabuka.

The deceased has been named as Mwaka Pela aged 31 a teacher at Kayuni east primary school in Monze district who sustained a deep cut in the head and suffered internal injuries.

The body of the deceased is lying in Monze mission hospital mortuary while other passengers sustained minor injuries and were discharged immediately after being treated.

The driver of the minibus Live Siangandu aged 38 years of Mazabuka was discharged from hospital yesterday and has since been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving and will appear in court soon.

  1. Mr. Dean Siame, another Bemba, again in trouble. We are just reading the stories of Patricia Chisanga and her West African Boy friend caught in a big scam of medical Aid in the USA. Any way this is earthly, ba Siame you cannot defraud the University belonging to the SDA, the University created by God. Never, Never there is a good God of justice who has revealed your wickedness. Mind you, Angels are watching what ever you doing. Just go back to school at the same Rusangu University of the SDA.

  2. All those taught by this man and have graduated are a half baked graduates.Be wary of these universities you go to, you will end up not being employed as a result of such scandals
    Ndeloleshafye……………….

  3. Iwe Zambiana, Siame is not a Bemba name…he’s either Namwanga or Mambwe but it doesn’t matter a thief is a thief whether Tonga or Lozi.

    • Who did Liato steal from? The prosecution never proved that he stole from anyone. He was dubiously convicted on the charge of having property i.e.”believed” to have been stolen. Essentially what you have here is a miscarriage of justice. Accused people should always be convicted on the basis of facts or proof beyond reasonable doubt that they indeed have factually committed a crime. “Belief” is not enough to convict a person. “Belief” belongs to the realm of religion NOT a court of law.

  4. #6, IT’S FOOLISH TO COMMENT ON A FOOLISH COMMENT FROM A FOOLISH BLOGGER. YOU WILL ALSO BE SEEN AS A FOOL. SIAME IS A ZAMBIAN THAT’S ALL. WHETHER HE’S LOZI OR TONGA THAT DOESN’T MATTER. HE’S A ZAMBIAN- PURE AND SIMPLE.

    • I think Nubian Princess has a point, if a Zambian MP/ Cabinet minister and university dean can be caught with fake professional papers it means the scourge is widespread and employers need to be vigilant.

    • You are soo right! There are just so many forged certificates since ZEC came into being. When I was recruiting I came across a man who had a Grade 3 in Geography but didnt know where Windhoek was. I checked the certificate with ZEC and was told the man never went through the secondary school he was claiming to have been in.

    • yah..yah.. you are a critical thinker. offering solutions is what is needed. but shame mr siame, I held you in high esteem.

  5. #16 you must be choking with envy as you admire Mushota’s endless list of qualifications. Learn to be inspired by the success of others. Instead of drinking Chibuku at montrosse and other dirty places, why not re-write your grade 7 and progress with your education? it might take long, but one day you will also have degrees like Nick’s Fiancee.

    • Thanks Blessings no doubt you could not read through a simple joke…says much about you…and yes i will take you up on your wisdom, i just have to first rewrite my grade seven examinations…when i finish my MBA thesis in may next year!

  6. What kind of a university is Rusangu that can not even verify qualifications of the people it employs. You verify a person’s qualifications by directly getting transcripts from colleges or universities they claim they attended…

  7. No hard feelings dojo #16. by the way are MBA’s still relevant in modern society?? Only if you push them as far as Mushota’s PHD. WE LIVE IN MODERN TIMES DUDE. TIMES WHERE SOCIAL MEDIA ACHIEVES MORE THAN TU MA SILLY MBA’S

  8. This trend is surging, we need to put un end to it. The question is how? The culprits must be imprisoned no less than 5 years with had labor. This will send a wave of shock in the community to deter all from involving themselves in such vices. The people who put their brains to work to obtain degrees are not stupi.d . And that has to be emphasized by bringing to book the wrong doers. And whistle blowers must be encouraged to let the law know who is in public service and yet use fake documents. Probably thats why standards are failing due to people occupying wrong positions.

  10. Sata did not use his fake degree to obtain employment! There is no crime in printing a fake degree from the internet as long as you do not use it to obtain employment!! Print one and frame it and display it in the living room for your children to admire!!!

  11. Sad state of affairs if the lecturer is a cheat and a dullard what of the students who are graduating from this institution. This is the reason why we have too many dull masters certificate holders in Zambia; some chaps can’t make a simple presentation.
Isn’t is the university was formerly known as Zambia Adventist University based in Monze owned by those Seventh-day Adventist chaps.

  12. Just some writing tips, LT. You have a story on forgery and then you say MEANWHILE and write about an accident-totally unrelated stories! Learn to use the term ‘meanwhile’ properly.

  13. Forgery can happen anywhere, including ivory tower Universities. Some people have even practiced (with forged licenses) as physicians in such developed countries as the US. I think it has more to do with the individual’s integrity than the institution. Granted, the graduates will be affected but this is no occasion for us to talk down on our home country institutions. Our schools may not be as good as Harvard but I am proud of all of them because at least they try. Home sweet home! Go Zambia Go!:):)
