Health workers at Mutondo Rural Health Centre in Kaoma district in Western province are reported to be subjecting expectant mothers to buying gloves, plastics, razor blades and other requirements during labour.

Chief Mutondo’s Prime Minister (Mwanashihemi) Jackson Mahepo disclosed the development when Western Province Minister Josephine Limata who is on the familiarization tour of chiefs palaces in the province called on him at his Kalimbata royal palace of the Nkoya speaking people in Kaoma district.

Mr Mahepo complained that many expectant mothers were subjected to look for materials that were supposed to be handled by the health authorities in the district.

The Mwanashihemi also said Mutondo rural health centre has one male nurse, two Environmental Health Technologists.

Mr Mahepo has since appealed to government through the Ministry of Health to send a female nurse at the institution in order to service expectant mothers effectively.

And Ms Limata who was accompanied by Deputy Permanent Secretary Namukolo Kamona and Provincial heads of government departments from Health Albert Sitali, Education Muyangwa Kamutumwa, Community Development Mother and Child Health Mwiya Wamundila and Agriculture and Livestock Garry Syatwinda said that the PF government is a pro-poor government that wants to uplift the living standards of all the people in the country.

And speaking earlier, Provincial Medical officer, Albert Sitali said he will investigate the matter and that punitive measures would be meted out at any health officer who is subjecting mothers to such harsh conditions.

Dr Sitali has promised Chief Mutondo’s Prime Minister Jackson Mahepo and other Indunas at the palace that the materials and other requirements for expectant mothers at the health centre will be delivered as soon as possible.

Ms Limata said the two years of PF in government has seen a lot of development in the province and that President Sata has pledged to work with chiefs hence the creation of a ministry that will look into their plights.

The minister has since promised to do her best to see to it that chiefs as representatives of the people in the province are protected and supported.

Ms Limata also took time to inspect government projects such as the stalled Mangango World Bank funded power line, school and health infrastructure among other projects in her continued tour of duty.

And Chief Mutondo has appealed to law enforcement agencies to thwart down those who are agitating for the infamous Linyungandambo in Western province.

Chief Mutondo said that he does not support the Linyungandambo activists as the move will sway away the much needed development in the province.

He said that there is no profit for agitating for the secession of western province adding that his palace in Kaoma wants peace and stability to prevail as conflicts will bring disharmony in the country.

Chief Mutondo has since requested the provincial minister to unite all the tribes in the province in order to foster development which people of western province are yearning for and not secession.

On Saturday, police officers arrested 45 of the infamous Linyungandambo secessionists while their master minders Mombotwa Akafumba and a Mr Masiye a teacher at Sioma Secondary school are still on the run and government through the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has requested for all the dockets of the 45 Linyungandambo activists.

  5. It is good that the Minister for Western Province has paid a courtesy call on HRH Mwene Mutondo of the Nkoya people to familiarize her office with the developmental needs of that area.

We would like to call on the Litunga to join HRH Mwene Mutondo in calling for peace and unity in the province for the benefit of the entire country.

Zambia is one country that should never be divided to please a particular set of people.

Those calling for secession are enemies of progress in the province because they are stalling development that every body needs in the province and the entire Zambia.
