FIRST Lady Dr Christine Kaseba has expressed concern that parents have continued to stop their children from receiving the HPV vaccine despite being sensitised about it.

Dr Kaseba has since called for concerted efforts and increased awareness in supporting the HPV vaccine which was introduced in Zambia in 2013 to fight cervical cancer.

She said plans were underway to roll out the HPV vaccine countrywide by 2015.

“Women are the cornerstone of every society on this earth. It is for this reason that we are gathered here today for such a noble cause, to fight for women’s health. We need to introduce the HPV vaccine to save lives,” she said.

Dr Kaseba said this at the HPV dissemination meeting held at Pamodzi yesterday.

She said Zambia was fortunate to have the HPV vaccine and called for an integrated approach that encompassed family planning, cervical cancer screening and HIV prevention efforts.

Zambia was targeting to vaccinate 50,000 girls by 2015 to save them from cervical cancer.

Dr Kaseba said it was sad that Zambia had continued to have the second highest rate of cervical cancer in the world, yet the disease was preventable.

She was, however, happy that treatment of cervical cancer had greatly improved in Zambia with the opening of the cancer diseases hospital and for the first time, radiotherapy had been made available to the community.

Dr Kaseba further called for more knowledge dissemination on issues of the HPV vaccine for the benefit of the citizenry.

She said the dissemination of information on HPV would foster more partnerships in curbing cervical cancer.

She said it was important to curb cervical cancer as it contributed to the deaths of women in their productive years.

She called for increased political will and mobilisation and pledged to continue to assist all projects aimed at improving the lives of women and children.

Earlier, Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health Permanent Secretary, Elywn Chomba called for the re-introduction of routine immunisations for all children in Zambia.

  1. It is good for young girls also to learn to restrict entry into the garden until they are older. My garden was sacred until I got married, no HPV!

    • Dr Kaseba how much are the pharmaceutical companies paying you for promoting this vaccine in Zambia? I will not vaccinate my daughter. Why don’t you also highlight the side effects and the reason some countries have banned this vaccine. My great grandmother was not vaccinated,my grandmother was not vaccinated,my mother was not vaccinated ,I was not vaccinated and therefore my daughter will not be vaccinated.

    • ignorance is bliss! Cervical cancer and HPV whilst associated with early onset of sexual encounters and HIV, can also come from “your partner” having had many partners – sleeping with someone who has played the field is as good as playing the field yourself!

Its a strength to teach abstinence and purity, but not JUST TO WOMEN it has to be to us men as well.

    • People need to wake up.
Imwe Bantu please ukani, especially women, baza kulasani mantenda you don’t even know. Kapo pule tion pa zed kasila nama nkwala ya boza, benve bamipoka doti.
Don’t you ever wonder that our women used to live on to over 100 years , but now?
Wake up before all our beautiful women alasiwa sidah. Iyi yenve ni zo ona.
Protect your mothers and sisters, just a reminder navi yellow milissi.

    • Madam kaseba, go and vaccinate yourself and let it end there. How many times are we going to tell you that these vaccines are not good for our beautiful Zambian ladies. we love our Zambian women and we don’t want them destroyed by these pharmaceutical vaccines only aimed at making profits. In more than 90 percent of HPV infections, HPV infection is cleared within two years on its own, so keeping your immune system strong is far more important than getting vaccinated.

  2. at nubian princess,
who was cleaning your garden before you got married i mean weeding? yalisapa sana.

    mama kaseba mwaleta challenger yabuteko?

  3. Journalism 101: You should mention the location of the news event in the first paragraph. LT, you only mentioned that “HPV dissemination meeting held at Pamodzi” in the 5th paragraph. Mmmh!

  4. “Many women are not aware that the HPV vaccine Gardasil might actually increase your risk of cervical cancer. Initially, that information came straight from Merck and was presented to the FDA prior to approval6. According to Merck’s own research, if you have been exposed to HPV strains 16 or 18 prior to receipt of Gardasil vaccine, you could increase your risk of precancerous lesions, or worse, by 44.6 percent.”

  5. I cannot stress enough how critical it is to get involved and stand up for your human right to exercise informed consent to vaccination and protect your legal right to obtain medical and non-medical vaccine exemptions. This does not mean you have to opt out of all vaccinations if you decide that you want to give one or more vaccines to your child. The point is, EVERYONE should have the right to evaluate the potential benefits and real risks of any pharmaceutical product, including vaccines, and opt out of any vaccine they decide is unnecessary or not in the best interest of their child’s health. Every child is different and has a unique personal and family medical history, which may include severe allergies or autoimmune and neurological disorders, that could increase the risks of vaccinat

  6. Where was she saying this? And show us the picture of her daughter being vaccinated! If she leads we will consider following

  7. Have you even bothered to find out why this vaccine was being pushed on minorities in USA? Texas had even gone as far as making mandatory to all young girls in school! Drug companies have not done enough study on this vaccine, hence we the stupid and ignorant nations are busy rolling out. Lord have mercy.

  8. For God’s sake do not let your daugthers get this vaccine. Guess it is one the mandatory vaccines that every young immigrant woman has to get when applying for a green card in the USA. Why did they have to make mandatory on immigrants…..? Because the majority of the people in USA are aware of dangers, hence they opted not to have their children vaccinated. Please do not take your daugthers for this vaccine. Do your own research and you will have a change of heart.

  9. On March 20, Judicial Watch announced it had received the FOIA documents from the DDHS, which revealed that the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program has awarded $5,877,710 to 49 victims for harm resulting from the HPV vaccine. According to the press release10:
Only 49 of the 200 claims filed have been compensated for injury or death caused from the (HPV) vaccine. Of the 49 compensated claims, 47 were for injury caused from the (HPV) vaccine. The additional 2 claims were for death caused due to the vaccine.
Question : this is in the USA….who is going to compensate your families if harm happened to your girl child?

  10. Welcome to Zambia mama.Your words are as good as your beautiful face.Keep it up. Better than the ugliest woman in Zambia Chi Nkandu Luo who always talk Kabovic like Sata her uncle.
