UPND Vice President for Administration Richard Kapita has come out in the open to strongly deny reports that he has been sidelined after he failed to account for K2 million Kwacha campaign funds.
In a statement, Mr Kapita said he has not been sidelined by party President Hakainde Hichilema adding that his subdued public appearances at party functions is due to the fact that he has relocated to his farm in North Western province.
He said as party Vice President, he is still a committed member of the party and that there is no way he could have abused campaign funds because he does not have access to any cash belonging to UPND.
‘Known people, whose motive and agenda is unclear to me have been peddling lies to the effect that I have failed to account for K 2 million campaign funds which they claim was donated to our party for the January 2015 presidential by election,’ he said.
‘They further allege that as a result, President Hakainde Hichilema is very upset with me and has since sidelined me from party activities and that consequently, i have gone into hiding hence my none appearance at public events including press briefings.’
He added, ‘I joined the UPND at its inception and have served as its deputy treasurer general (elected), member of parliament for Mwinilunga West and now vice president (again elected). In the 13 years i have been a member of this great party, i have dedicated my life totally to the UPND and our presidents; starting with our founding leader Anderson Kambela Mazoka (MHSRIP) and now President Hakainde Hichilema.’
‘I have been loyal to this party even in the face of numerous temptations to jump ship to the ruling party,’ Mr Kapita said.
‘Let me set the record straight and put this matter to bed once and for all. Firstly, during campaigns for the last presidential by election, i never received k2m from any donor .in my role as Vice President don’t handle any cash as this is the job of the party Accountant.’
He emphasised that he has never failed to account for any party resource that has come into his hands as Vice President.
Mr Kapita said there is no animosity between Mr Hichilema and himself that he has not sidelined me at all.
‘My deliberate disappearance from public eye is simply because i have relocated to my small farm in north western province with the aim of helping mobilize the party in readiness for 2016 general elections,’ he said.
‘It is therefore, not possible or practical for me to be present at all public events in Lusaka. Why have i taken this long to respond to these malicious and unfounded lies? i didn’t want to generate negative debates in the media at the time that our gallant men and women were busy campaigning for our candidates in the just ended parliamentary and ward by elections .’
First line of defence, accepted. Next a high ranking party official must vouch for this statement and then the matter will go to bed as he desires. QED
After developing the farm , buying cattle and goats, acquired fertiliser and built a house on the farm from the K2million, it is right time to go settle on it.
We know the farm was a shell before the campaigns began. Now it is developed and you can settle and herd your cattle.

Could it be the reason why HH was parading GBM, Maureen, Masebo with him during the campaigns, instead of going out there marketing his team to the people of zambia.

What the heck is all this noise for? If he pocketed K2million so what! Its not public money or government money. So you PF minions concentrate on finding the money which your PF officials stole and caused work stoppage at KK airport rather than voicing your concerns on a non issue.
At least the allegations are not coming from the UPND party but from PF lies mongers who think that they can destabilise UPND in NW by character assassinating UPND officials.
At least he did not steal government money like most PF politicians have done and still doing to extent of bankrupting the country ‘s coffers. Now Lungu is forced to borrow to close the financial gap created by PF thieves in government. KK airport and many other projects have been shelved because the PF officials stole $25million.

PF officials are stealing billions of Kwacha in broad day light and no PF minions has balls of steal to voice that concern. How preposterous is that?
All the so called infrastructural projects have ground to a halt because the likes of Chikwanda, Mulenga Sata, and the whole of Sata’s family forest have privatised the money meant for government projects. What a shame on PF and its supporters.
Zambia under PF has gone backwards many decades. Even those stealing millions of government money think that they live in South Africa with their money are cheating them selves, because once the South African thugs know how stole that money, they will lynch them to death and take over their properties.

Why only defend yourself now? And what party mobilization can you hold in north western province while sitting at your small farm when we all know the province is already a strong hold for UPND. There is no smoke without fire Mr. Kapita. How can someone just wake up and say, you havent account for K2 million, without any shroud of evidence??? All is said, but the answer does not seem to come out as clearly as it s supposed to. Kapita should tell us whether he was at some point entrusted with this amount which he later may be forwarded to the rightful person, the party Accountant, because that is where the whole issue is. As long as he denies that he was headed this amount of money and yet he was, then it becomes very trick to believe him. Zambians of all shades are very trickery this we should accept. These parties you see have been re-cycled and recycled such that there are no more pure people apart from people like HH who has only known UPND and no other party.

If political parties were funded from the government treasury they were going to be more democratic in as far as leadership is concerned but as it is, people with financial muscle will always lead these parties because a poor person no matter how brilliant that person can be, won’t manage to organize money for the party. This trend was even there in PF when Sata started the party and please we shouldn’t argue that Sata was a poor person because he was NOT! If HH ceases to be president of UPND that will be the end of UPND and that’s just the truth!

We are a very backwards society indeed! When called upon to vote we tend not to in the person with good ideas, vision and a good economic plan. We vote out the person we don’t like due to petty jealousy and a generally dislike of certain people. we would rather have a useless man in office than the man with great ideas but whom we don’t like! This Kapita issue has generated more unwarranted concerns than initially intended. Polarising one’s opposing party has taken a great toll in the whole subject.
