The Zambia Civic Education Association Executive Director Judith Mulenga has described as ridiculous the proposal by PF Secretary General Davies Chama that he would be happy to see Zambia transform into a one party state.

Mrs Mulenga said the proposal should be rejected with the contempt it deserves because Zambians are not interested in a one party State.

She has since advised Mr Chama to keep his views to himself because Zambians appreciate multi-party democracy.

‘I think that is the most ridiculous statement from a public figure. He says it is his own opinion but some opinions are best kept to yourself and not brought up in the public domain,’ Mrs Mulenga said.

She added, ‘Everywhere in Africa, people are moving towards enshrining democratic and not only democracy by name but democratic principles by strengthening institutions, respecting the rule of law and reverting the power back to the people so that those that are voted into power become accountable to the people.’

Mrs Mulenga continued, ‘And then you have the party Secretary General of governing party coming up with this useless proposal that he wants a one party state. This is the problem we have with the current leadership, they are very myopic. They just look issues only for the immediate.’

She observed that the PF could be suggesting the idea of a one party state because of its dwindling popularity.

‘We know how successive governments they have operated when they become repressive. They get into power through a multi party system by popular mandate and when this popularity wanes, they become repressive and they start using all sort of machinations which are well known to us.’

Mrs Mulenga said the PF is using Mr Chama’s statement to taste the waters and gauge how Zambians would react to such a statement.

‘We know these machinations very well. By making such a statement, the PF was using Mr Chama to taste the waters to see how the public would react and from there, they would be able to know if the avenue is there for them to push such an agenda and you can see from the way they are annihilating other political parties by buying off strong opposition members.’

  1. This is a free world. So let Davies Chama dream on. We moved on from the era in 1991. It can only come back by decree not via defections to the PF. When the PF came into power in 2011 they had an agenda to obliterate MMD within 90 days but ended up just wasting money through sponsored defections. If God does not want a one-party state in Zambia, it will never happen.

    • I did mention in January that the name Chama sounded suspicious in politics. Soccer, Yes but SG, a big No.I don’t know how old Mr. Chama is but we can remind him that 27 years of one-party rule in Zambia brought us Zero development while a few years cf multi-party democracy brought us some progress under MMD which Mr. Chama and PF are trying hard to destroy. Mr. Chama is an SG of a party today because of multi-party democracy. Why he wants to destroy democracy is anybody’s guess. Mr. Chama, many Zambians would like to one day become SGs of a political party of their choice just like you. You have no right to deny them this privilege.

    • Chama is following in the footsteps of his evil mentor, Sata, who was the hatchet man for Chiluba’s Third Term. PF is truly the Party of Ideeots.

    • Independence and freedom are are sacred tenets of our nationhood for which many have made sacrifices. These must guarded jealously by all, and should not be subjected to frivolity and flippancy. It is frightening that a serving minister and head of ruling party can even consider backtracking to a discredited and undemocratic system. I hope that is not one of the no contentious issues to be sneaked into the constitution. Don’t even think about it.

  2. Davies Chama. Did I in the beginning state that that was the most irritating looking politician ever? Him Kambwili and the other Sata cronies need to vacate our government. FDD, please mobilize and become a real opposition. It is clear the MMD and UPND have no mettle.

    Viva president Nawakwi.

  3. Its a government of F.OOLs and Monkeys.

I wonder if this Chama has even got a grade 12 certificate.

Thats the problem with PF. full of Kamwala Call Boys. They think with their hands.

  4. But Nzelu also you must get matured & be relevant in your blogging-So in your critical & rational analysis your FDD is more thriving & proactive than UPND! Please, dear bloggers let’s be level headed with helicoptic views in our blogging! In any case, the registrar of society should deregister opposition political parties without MPs for they are premised mainly on selfish vested interests! Your Nawakwi & Chipimo were sharing red cents recently! Let’s support progressive & proactive sustained opposition political parties on merit & based on their stance on good governance & democracy!

    • My Nawakwi and Chipimo are very articulated presidents. Nawakwi President and young Chipimo as Minister of Justice. We have two MPs. Plus there is no way we can deregister a great party like The FDD. Even the Green Party is a wonderful party. Confused but needed. UPND is only useless because the do not challenge HH. If they were to elevated a new leader, then my president Nawakwi can absorb them and make them next leading party and presidents ministers.

Am upset at wanting to deregister FDD. Am I the only one that has attended Nawakwis meetings in person. She is intelligent and the right leader we need.

  5. When all is said and done, Davies Chama can’t believe his luck so to keep that position he starts talking about One party politics. In this day and age he is talking about Zambia going backwards. This country will never progress with leaders like Chama at its helm. Multi party politics are too much of a hustle for him. He wants to give directives. They are backward looking! Those sentiments should be kept to himself.

  6. Ba Judith Mulenga – this story is now stale. Zambia is a multiparty democracy – enshrined in our constitution. Mr. Chama’s statements are just personal and it is up to Zambians to determine the course of our democracy. This is a non issue – talk about things that will help our people.
