Mazabuka Town Clerk Wisdom Bwalya has urged members of the United Party for National Development (UPND) and the Patriotic Front (PF) in the district to learn to co-exist amongst each other.

On Tuesday some UPND and PF members in Mazabuka clashed which resulted in some vehicles that were packed at the Civic centre being damaged and two cadres being hospitalised after they were shot at by some of the cadres who were armed.

Mr Bwalya described Tuesday’s incident as unfortunate and called on political parties to preach peace.
“What happened in Mazabuka was unimaginable and resulted in some cadres breaking vehicles and others being injured,” Mr.Bwalya said.

He said the incident happened after the conclusion of the Conflict management meeting between PF and UPND and to their surprise, there was some violence outside.

Mr Bwalya who is also the District Electoral officer said they would call for another meeting where they would also appeal to the warring parties on the need to conduct peaceful campaigns.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Godwin Phiri confirmed the incident that transpired in Mazabuka.

Mr Phiri said fighting amongst each other was unnecessary and parties should just learn to campaign peacefully than being involved in violent clashes.

He said political party candidates should be in the fore front to preach peace to their cadres which would also deter them from attacking others.

“I think some candidates are not doing enough, this violence is unnecessary and cadres should be refrained from doing this,” he said.

    • So PF cadres have been given guns by Lungu to be shoting people at will? And whats this idea by Lungu of importing people from Northern and Eartern to be Police commissioners and District education officers in Southern, surely are there noo educated people in this region who can take up those positions? I say this because you wont find a Mweemba or Moonga in such position in the Northern or Eartern provinces. Am a Northerner but am very worried of here this country is heading too, its like a triebe is more powerful than qualifications now. Lungu is indeed the worst president we have had, is a cunning man full of pretence!!

    • Its because you Tongas are very sheepish. The only Tonga that had realised this is HH and thats why he has ‘imported’ sharp Bemba brains like Miles Sampa, Bob Sichinga, Mulenga Sata etc and most importantly, GBM to help you think and get into State House. On your own you are just a bunch of brainless cattle herders.

    • @zezemba. You are very wrong man. Firstly, you are not Bemba but a tribal Tonga.
Secondly, Tongas are every where in Zambia in both Higher and lower positions in the civil service. They are the majority in the civil service due to their tribal inclination as they favour their tribe. This is true in the civil service almost in all Ministries. This is true my man. Go to the Northern region you will find Tongas in higher positions in the civil service. Please don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house.

  1. I dont believe that these cadres are being told to act unruly by their leaders. What i saw on the main news was amazing were partiy cadres in Livingstone have all resolved to co-exist. I feel it is just a number of people that are taking advantage of the period we are in.
I have heard time and again the president condeming the violence but its failing on deaf ears.

  2. And LT why put that picture – where are upnd cadres there were fighting with. Such may act as fuel to the issue at hand. Be sesisitve.

  3. Who shot who? Why is this information being concealed? More importantly, have the gun-wielding cardres been apprehended? Lawlessness is like a cancer, before you know it even those who think they are safe will be engulfed.

  4. Can the Police tell us who shot the gun because if it was UPND it was going to be in NEWS.Who gave these cadres guns?
This violence is done with the support of goverment. Can we stop this country men and women.
The Police command will be answerable to this.

  5. The only problem we have in Zambia is that People trying to quench political violence lack skill and knowledge. Those who have done especially UK courses such as ACCA,CIMA etc will tell how it is done.(CONFLICT MANAGEMENT)
    1) SENSITIZATION IN EACH CAMP BEFORE YOU CALL CADRES,LET THEM UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WANT THEM TO BEHAVE IN A GOODWAY TOWARDS ONE ANOTHER.
    2)No Alcohol
3)Seriuosness from yourselves-Pantual,not drunk, show partiality to both camps.

  6. We shall deploy Armcor, they could do a better job and teach you a few tricks. Honestly I am disgusted with this police, they are crying like babies everyday.
