The Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) in Eastern province has refuted media reports that there are wrangles in the party.
The former ruling party has also refuted reports that members are seeking for the exit of its President Felix Mutati from the party.
In a press statement released to ZANIS today, by Provincial Secretary Jacob Mwanza and also signed by Provincial Secretary Julius Phiri, the party is disturbed with false news which appeared in some tabloids, entitled “MMD wrangles mushroom as members call for
Mutati’s exit as President.”
The duo stated that there were no consultations to that effect made by any Provincial Chairperson saying the stance of the party remains in favour of its Presidency, Mr Mutati.
They further stated that the province distances itself from the story describing it a wishful
thinking from mentally derailed and politically bankrupting individuals.
“We are extremely happy and content with the Presidency of Mr. Mutati, by the same token we wish to express our gratitude to republican President Edgar Lungu for appointing him Finance Minister,” the statement read in part.
The duo further stated that Mr Mutati was a citizen who has a duty to provide services to his country which was bigger than any political party.
They said there is an alliance with the Patriotic Front and the MMD saying this does not divorce memberS from working together.
Mr Mwanza and Mr Phiri said there is no MMD constitution clause which bars any member
from serving in another party therefore attempts to destabilize efforts that Mr Mutati is rendering to the nation were null and void.
