First Lady Esther Lungu has called on government to create new recreation parks in the country in order to encourage physical activities among residents.

ZANIS reports that Mrs Lungu said local authorities should provide residents with recreational parks where they could exercise through various games and sports.

She observed that people have not been undertaking exercises partly due to lack of physical training infrastructure such as parks and bicycle paths.

Mrs Lungu was speaking today during the 2017 Copperbelt inaugural intercompany relay (ICR) at Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola.

The First Lady who participated in a 7 kilometer walk , said regular physical exercises reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.

And speaking earlier Copperbelt Provincial Minister Bowman Lusambo noted that the diversification programme which the Province is undertaking from mining to agriculture needs healthy people for it to succeed.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) Managing Director Fighton Sichone pledged his company’s continued sponsorship to future ICR events.

And ICR Chairman Elias Mpondela thanked the First Lady for advocating for the rotation of the ICR from one province to another.

More than 11 teams and over 300 walkers participated in the 2017 intercompany relay which was held under the theme “We are one – by acting together we can win.”

  1. Behind every successful man is a woman, behind a failed man is a legion of harlots! This a soulmate to Chakolwa who is his chief advisor. Maybe Chakolwa won’t take advise.

  2. The parks are they except they were ‘sold’ for people to build children foundations, housing blocks on golf courses, flower gardens for resale, housing units or simply grabbed and left to rot
