High malnutrition levels due to excessive beer

Share

Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN), office in Mbala district has attributed high levels of malnourished children to excessive beer drinking among parents and guardians.

Speaking during the District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC), meeting in Mbala, SUN coordinator Krysterbel Nankamba complained that the number of malnourished children in zambia compound is worrying.

Ms. Nankamba lamented that it is sad that residents of zambia compound do not even attend nutrition meetings but prefer to go and drink beer.

She said this is making it difficult to address the problem despite her office making strides in efforts to alleviate malnutrition.

Ms. Nankamba however called on the church to come in as soon as possible if the malnutrition levels are to be reduced in the compound.

  1. Really laughable one dingbat in the name of Dora makes silly announcement about alcoholic abuse in women and the rest follow ….who is SUN?

    • Why “excessive beer” if not due to lack of direction? And why lack of direction if not due to lack of leadership?

    • Imute wa Kalilo – Its a red herring to keep the masses from talking about Lazy Lungu’s dirty scandals..

    • Now even the high debt levels we find ourselves in is due to excessive drinking ……..come to think of it this may not be far fetched if you consider the top dawgs in political Leadership right now

  2. “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging, whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise..” Proverbs 20

    • Proverbs 23:31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly!

  3. Before we get overtaken by text-tennis, let’s just consider ways to make nutritious foods affordable, put in place policies that will encourage drinking places to run food kitchens as well, and enforce laws that are already there with regards to age limitations on entry to adult places, opening hours to pubs and bars, and when and where bottle stores can operate. Why do we always bring in the religious dimension as if we are stocking up to go eat well after death! Awe mwe!

  4. Who said obesity was a big problem in Zambia? I think what was meant was that obesity was a big problem in the cabinet! In the rest of the country malnutrition is the problem.

  5. KK threatened to resign if we didn’t reduce on drinking. …we dared him to go ahead. Here we’re today with the situation getting out of hand. One will fail to buy a K65 x 25kg bag of mealie meal but will easily spend k100 on beer in one night. Personally I don’t need someone to tell me that beer drinking is bad for both your health and your pocket. Common sense prevails here. Blaming government will not solve the problem because government has put regulations in place such as operating time etc but you’ll find people locked inside bars as early as 6.00hrs. The bar will be “closed ” but people will actually be drinking inside. Why can’t you wait until evening and after work?

  6. Gentlemen, drinking beer is your choice. Do not blame it on the Government.Even if your HH was to rule this country, God forbid.people will continue wasting money on beer.Beer brings Poverty, people get killed,More Road accidents ,they get diseases such as HIV/AIDS,Manutrition gets high not because people don’t have enough disposable income. I head one Minister encouraging to increase the price of beer thinking like people will get discouraged. That will just increase poverty and Manutrition to go up.People won’t stop buying beer but will stop buying food for their families.A Zambian will have K200 in his pocket. He will spend K160 on beer and K40 on food at home. How can the Government make decisions on your behalf in such a case.
