President Edgar Lungu

President Lungu has called on all Zambians to get tested for HIV and know their status so that in the event they are found positive, they can immediately start Anti retro viral treatment ART in order for them to lead normal, healthy and happy lives.

The President stated that though Zambia has recorded a reduction in New HIV infections by 41 percent translating from 77,500 in 2010 to 46,000 in 2016, more needs to be done as an estimated 300,000 People Living with HIV still needed to be on ART.

He stated that so far, 915,000 people where on ART which is a huge leap from the 3500 that was recorded in 2003.

The President said that this was due to the various initiatives implemented by government and its various partners such as the Universal Routine HIV testing concealing and treatment and the Surge campaign which he had flagged off last year. He also sited community interventions such as door to door testing as well as self testing which had proved to be effective.

And President Lungu said that the theme “Run the last mile, leaving no one behind” is very appropriate and that to run the last mile, there is need to employ pioneer ways of doing things as well as scaling up of innovative interventions that have a proven track record of having worked.

“To run the last mile, we need to enforce and sustain coordination mechanisms to ensure an effective functioning of multi sect oral, harmonized access and scaled up quality prevention services to the targeted populations such as adolescents and young women. My government values community engagement in the achievement of results which answers to the theme for this world AIDS day and the vision of Zambia of leaving no one behind, “he said.

” I call upon every Zambian to know their status and especially men who are among groups with low HIV testing and treatment coverage. In order for Zambia to seize the opportunity of this unprecedented moment, each person should make the decision to know their status and start treatment immediately. Ignoring your status will not change your status. It will only make you and your loved ones vulnerable to the virus, he said.

And the President spoke strongly against discrimination of people living with HIV stating that it would not safeguard the community against the disease but would only work to make people hide in the shadows and shan accessing services that would benefit the overall health of the community.

He urged the Ministry of Health to establish more youth friendly health services in all corners of the country to address HIV among the youth.

He called upon all line Ministries, the private sector, the civil society leadership at all levels and the Media as well as the public, to ensure that every single citizen and migrant was able to access HIV services.

The President took time to thank the cooperating partners and stakeholders for their generous material, technical and financial support towards the HIV response in Zambia.

“Together, we can end AIDS by 2030 by running the last mile, leaving no one behind, “he said.

The President said this in a speech read on his behalf by Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, the Minister of Health at the commemoration of World AIDS day in Livingstone this morning.

  1. Nonsense. This fraud has to end. The HIV data in Zambia is corruptly inflated to keep the aids industry going.

Here is the solution: have an honest survey like the DHS, and do not pad the data with pregnant women from the PMTCT programs.

If that is done, the so-called HIV epidemic in Zambia is going to disappear, the way it disappeared in the Congo DRC in 2007.

    • People who have it and they don’t know their status are going to be agaist this call. Lets know them now ….1 ..2…3…

    • @Mr.K, good comment.But
Last year you asked all men to be circumcised, maybe you were using same scissors. Now you want to test them of HIV?
When did we last lose a PF mcc from AIDS? I understand most PF were paying a lot to get a negative result to show on there nominations day?
There is no AIDS or Zika in Zambia.

    • @MrK, long time!
You and I debated about decentralization shortly after the birth of the internet.
I wanted to revisit that discussion but did not know how to get hold of you.

      Howj do I contact you?

    • “President said this in a speech read on his behalf by Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, the Minister of Health”

Where is the Lazy moron….who wrote this article.

  2. even though ART for all infected is a welcome move, I would urge the government to speed up the tests on sondadhi SF 2000, if it works we will indeed be an aids free nation. think outside the box, think sondashi

    message approved

    • Sondashi is a fraud like any ng’anga or pastor who tells you thry can cure aids!
Can Sondashi honestly tell us the results of the test that were conducted when president mwanawasa was president and chituwo minister of health?
Why can’t he subject his so called medicine to who standards the way his PhD was at Warwick?
Yes let’s think outside the box but there is no box here we are just outside with a lot of lies!
For your information his own son died! You think he loves you better than his own children?

  3. ‘HIV’ and ‘GOD’ are articles of blind faith invented by terrified superstitious people and control freaks. Fear of
both ‘HIV’ and ‘GOD’ are used to control the masses and make millions for unscrupulous people. ‘HIV’ and ‘GOD’ have never been visualised and have never been seen which ironically increases our irrational desire for blind belief in these icons.

  4. I need to know more about myself first before l talk about my neba. How is my HIV status thereafter how is the status of my neba. The defensive mechanism might never work for me maybe it worked for my neba. Keep your head up .lf you eat and do not expect to visit the toilet amounts to dishonest of the highest level

    • Exactly! Poverty fuels HIV which in turn fuels more poverty – vicious cycle!
So ka economy ba yanganepo! Bwesheniko kamutengo ka fuel and reduce or get rid of some taxes to stimulate the economy by reducing the cost of doing business!
What’s the point of knowing your status if you can’t afford to eat well? ARVs alone are not enough! You can’t take them on an empty stomach!
Take a break from Chinese money and see how dry your citizens have become!

  5. Test Sharon and we will know if PF executive is negative since she is your resident hu!e with her forever open open pit

  6. Diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis are bigger killers than Aids. Yet focusing on Aids allows western governments and NGOs to lecture Africans about their morality and personal behaviour. It also adds a new gloss to the misanthropic population-control arguments of western charities, which now present their promotion of condoms in “overly fecund” Africa as a means of preventing the spread of disease.

  7. This HIV thing is modern slavery. These white devised a method of ripping resources from Africa by inventing HIV.Western world has run out of resources hence the best method of stealing from Africa is by creating HIV.They have done it in such a way that they have introduced ARV which just suppresses the viral load minus flushing it out in a human body. This has increased life span for Africans which will correspond with the pilferage of resources from Africa.Initially, they came with guns and salt in exchange for human beings. Now they have introduced ARVs in exchange for resources in Africa. They have just hidden the cure for the virus because it has economical effects attached to it.It is high time Africa started devised her own methods of combating the disease.

  8. The president went to test for malaria last yr while he invited others to test for HIV. Lead by example sir no need to fear. Take Kampyongo and Davies Mwila as well.

  9. Just out of curiousity has president Lungi himself been tested and if so can we the people of Zambia know his status?

  10. Medical exams ought to be an annual ceremony for all adults BUT do we have the resources to offer the service? Diabetes is also a big killer. Can they test for HIV & diabetes in Luano valley?

  11. Also fill their pockets with money you promised them in their pockets when you campaigned so that the buy food as they take the ARVS
