SADC to meet candidates in DRC ahead of Sunday Elections

The Southern African Development Community is due to meet opposition candidates in the Democratic Republic to discuss their concerns before Sunday’s Presidential elections.

Leader of the delegation Joseph Malanji who is also Zambia’s Foreign Affairs Minister told the BBC he was unable to judge whether the election will be free and fair.

Earlier, President Joseph Kabila said the long-delayed polls will happen on Sunday even as uncertainty remains over how prepared the vast country is to hold the vote.

President Kabila insisted the exclusion of three regions from the elections will not prevent the results from being declared.

He told the BBC there wouldn’t be any major issues with the more than 1 million voters whose participation will be delayed until later.

President Edgar Lungu in his capacity as chairperson of the SADC organ on Politics, Defence and Security Corporation was on Wednesday in the Congo-Brazzaville where he was attending the Heads of State summit.

The Heads of States Summit in Congo Brazzaville was under the banner of Southern Africa Development Community -SADC and International Conference of Great Lakes Region-ICGLR.

The summit bordered was convened to find a solution to the challenges in the DRC ahead of the General Elections in that country.

  1. Congo is a failed state. Why even waste time and people’s efforts, Just let them kill each other. Life goes on. They will eventually get tired!
