Government has called on the church to preach political tolerance and coexistence ahead of the August 13 General Elections.
Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary, Beauty Undi-Phiri, says there is need for the clergy to promote peace and unity in the country especially in the election period.
Ms Undi-Phiri has condemned reported acts of political violence that led to the killing of one person in Kaputa District saying there should be no room for violence in the province and county as whole.
She said this when she graced the birthday celebration for Prophet Kerrison and Prophetess Beverly Chanda of Prophetic Ministries of Christ Church in Kasama District.
“We are looking up to you as men of God to help us preach peace and unity, even as we go to vote, we should vote as One Zambia, One Nation,” Ms Undi-Phiri said.
Ms Undi-Phiri further noted that the government recognises the church as indispensable partners in national development.
She hailed the church for playing a pivotal role in ensuring social cohesion and strengthening good morals.
And speaking on behalf of Prophetic Ministries of Christ Church, Fidelis Mutolo, pledged the church’s continued commitment to working with the government in the development of the country.
“As a church we are happy to see that people in the country live well, because some of these people are members in this church, as such we will continue working with the government in its effort to improve the lives of people,” he said.
Pastor Mutolo has thanked the church for the spiritual guidance of its founder and leader, Prophet Chanda.
“We thank the members of the church for the spiritual guidance to the founder of the church, we are grateful,” he said.
Pastor Mutolo further called on Christians to continue upholding Christian values.
