The United Party for National Development, UPND, has said that the Patriotic Front is a bad and unfaithful partner.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with QFM, Party Deputy Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, said the cracks being experienced in the pact are as a result of lack of faithfulness from the PF side.
Mr. Mweetwa said the PF has been treating the UPND as a junior and inexperienced party in the pact, a situation which he said the UPND will not accept.
He said there are high chances of the pact likely to fail as long as the PF continues seeing itself a senior party in the pact.
He said the differences which erupted at the time the two parties were fielding in candidates for the Kaoma and Chadiza Local government by-elections could have been avoided if the Patriotic Front had avoided coming up with a candidate for Kaoma, after the UPND had already done so.
He said the fielding in of candidates should be seen from the perspective of each party’s merit in a particular area, and not from the party being senior or junior.

He said the differences going on in the pact are a good recipe for binding the pact together because by the time they are overcome, the two parties in the pact will have known the right way to avoid such hiccups in the future.
The PF/UPND pact has been going through hardships and misunderstandings for over two weeks now following differences in the fielding in of candidates for both Kaoma and Chadiza Local government by-elections slated for August five.

The ruling movement for multi party democracy MMD has charged that it will graciously take advantage of the situation if the opposition UPND/PF PACT hiccups persist
And MMD elections chairman , Mike Mulongoti disclosed to QFM in an interview that what is happening within the pact does provide the ruling party a great chance of shedding off some competition.
Mr. Mulongoti said that the cracks in the pact are not new and were expected.
He said that this is because both parties in the pact are mere offshoots of the ruling MMD and are bound to differ on grounds of principle.
He said that the two pact leaders are both fighting tireless for the same position and cannot allow one to lead the other.

The pact leaders must just agree on one thing. If HH or MC becomes president the other one who becomes VEEP must be like a running mate. He should be guaranteed of not being fired by the president through out the 5yrs. And that should be put in writing and breaking of that arrangement by who ever will be president specified in writing. Issues of immunity by the president should not arise in this matter.

#30 I do not believe that what HH said at the airport on his arrival from US would cause all this misunderstanding today, Zambians let us be serious, because if it was an issue why was it not responded to at that time. Since the pact had not chosen a presidential candidate by then and from their promises they said they will choose at their own time, both Sata and HH have the right to sell themselves. HH was asked by journalists at the airport and the question was what makes you think you can lead the pact, and he answered according to how he felt, and it is a fact that he is still young. As stated by Bob Sichinga to say there will be change of GRZ next year but it will bring misery and people will realise that they made a mistake and later the real change will happen. Free advice to HH and SATA. Should the pact fail as many prophets of doom have predicted on this blog and many other places, both your political careers will die at the same time. You will have rendered yourselves irrelevant to Zambian politics for ever. In the pact you have an opportunity to be heroes and not Zeros. If i am to look at age, HH you have more to lose than SATA. If i were you i would humble myself and say ”old man 2011 is your chance i will stand in the next election 2016.” Just by doing that HH would have gained alot of respect and support from all well meaning Zambians. Ps 133- Country men and women.. reading many of your views on this forum, one gets a real feel for the Zambian attitude. A passionate people, creative, intelligent in native affairs as well as across the disciplines.. To be brief, at the core of the Zambian mindset, we all know how our country must be run; we know the direction this country must take in the coming years. Our country according to its position needs to be a trade powerhouse. Zambia lacks unity, the same tenet upon which the nation was founded.
To make any meaningful progress we need to adopt a selfless attitude across the nation. We have a big job on our hands of getting this country on-track with the rest of the globe; we have no time for petty differences amongst ourselves. As Zambians we need to resist from always flying along with the wind without properly examining the waters, the PACT needs to be examined properly before it may be endorsed for leadership
The leadership of our country must be positively instructive, must be uniting and humorous. President Banda has time and again demonstrated the latter, he is humorous in many situations and this has the effect of creating a light hearted mode in the nation, conducive for the sustenance of peace that we enjoy examining the waters, the PACT needs to be examined properly before it may be endorsed for leadership.

There is no wisdom in the PF-UPND pact. Both leaders are selfish.

hey guys no need for crying foul. we have to forge ahead. HH has indicated willingness to be a running mate. so it is up to Sata to take up HH offer. However, i expected people to take the substantive issues in the article seriously. At this point in time, we should not allow Sata to hijack the pact. Sata should learn to be sincere because if he lost the 2011 election, the chap will be thrown into the trash can count my word. we all know Sata as arrogant but i feel his arrogance is not welcome to the pact because the PACT is the people`s idea and not a group of people from luapula or northern provinces. The PACT represents the aspiration of the zambians and we will NOT allow SATA to break all that has been done for his selfish end. No. HH may decide not to contest but preparare for 2016
