Birthday reflections: Nevers Mumba

20

We are all products of other people’s sacrifices and good will. The ultimate goal of every parent is to protect his offspring and create opportunities for that offspring to excel and do better than the parent himself.

Today, I have the privilege of celebrating my 59th birthday. With God’s help, I shall turn 60 in twelve months from now. God has been good to me through the darkest hours of my life. I owe Him my all. He has blessed me with a wonderful wife, Florence and five amazing children, Shumo-El, Tehillah, Ye-hoshua, Mica-El, Natasha and three grandchildren. But He has also blessed me with multiplied thousands of spiritual sons and daughters both in Zambia and around the world.

I choose to celebrate my birthday and transition to my 60th birthday by lending a hand to the next generation of leaders both in the church and politics. Those who have the dream and the passion to lead but cannot see the ‘bridge’ to take them there. My role shall be to help someone realize their dream by opening doors they may never be able to open on their own.
My mission is to create opportunities for the gifted and passionate young people in the two fields of Church and Politics.

Peter in the scriptures said, “Silver and Gold have I none but such as I have, I give unto you.” Give opportunities for others to succeed.

In 1981, my Pastor Gary Skinner asked me to serve as Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke’s interpreter in the Kitwe Crusade. During one of the services as I interpreted, Reinhard interrupted himself and looked at me and said, “You are made out of the same stuff that I am made out of.” From that day, he took me as his project. He decided to act as a bridge to my future. He decided to give me a leg up. He spoke to Mrs Gordon Lindsay, President of Christ For the Nations in Dallas, Texas and recommended that I be enrolled as a Bible student. This singular move changed my life forever.

Our young people need someone to speak for them to someone or to help them cross a hazardous river. I implore all fathers in every field to look for opportunities to push the younger generation ahead of us. They represent our faith and our aspirations. They are the letters we write to generations we shall never see. They are our arrows into the future. Their failure would be our failure and that of Zambia and Africa as a whole.

I asked the Lord how I should celebrate my 59th birthday. I believe the Lord wants me to actively help create opportunities for the next generation of leaders, both in Church and Politics.

To celebrate this birthday, I have organized three Special scholarships at Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas. I am happy that these three young people who have already been offered shall join the more than fifty of my sons and daughters in the Lord who have already gone through this great college.

I wish to thank the Lord for his love and mercy. I further wish to thank my dear wife, family, friends and the Victory Ministries family who continue to stand with me through the fiery furnace of the struggle for a better Zambia and Africa.

A special mention to my indomitable Movement for Multiparty Democracy Party leaders and membership who have made this journey memorable. I salute all Zambians who have created the environment for my service to my God and my Nation. Thank you.

(We shall soon place a link on our Facebook for the young people to get in touch with us).

Zambia Police cancel NDC Rally because Kambwili is not the Party President

42

Zambia Police in Eastern province have blocked National Democratic Congress(NDC) President Chishimba Kambwili from addressing a public rally in Chipata district, despite having earlier issued a permit to NDC sanctioning the rally.

The permit was issued a week ago.

The scheduled meeting was scheduled to be addressed by Mr. Kambwili and members of his central committee.

According to Mr. Kambwili, Zambia police in Eastern Province had received instructions from higher authorities to cancel the rally, adding that the rally can only take place once he left Chipata district.

According to Zambia Police in Eastern Province they decided cancel the rally on grounds that official records shows that Chishimba Kambwili is not the party leader.

The Police further encouraged the NDC to resolve its leadership wrangles so that a permit could be re-issued to the right entity

Earlier the Police had granted permission for the rally for the opposition party with a permit saying they did not know at the time of issuance that purported leader, Chishimba Kambwili would be one of the speakers.

Chipata deputy commanding officer, only identified as Chilekwa, told the NDC leadership that went to prepare Mpezeni Park that the rally had been cancelled as Kambwili is not the official leader.

The officer said the police were not informed that Kambwili would be one of the speakers at the rally when they authorised it.

The Police encouraged the NDC to sort out its national leadership before such speakers could be allowed to hold meetings.

And later, the NDC leadership led by Menyani Zulu and Lombani Musichili went to seek clarity from Eastern Province police commissioner Luckson Sakala who confirmed that the police command had cancelled the rally.

The commissioner said the rally could only go ahead if the Provincial or local leadership addressed the meeting and further if assurances were granted that Kambwili was not among speakers.

Dozens of police officers in riot gear have sealed off Mpezeni Park to ensure that the rally to secure the area.

Over 3,000 vulnerable girls benefit from AGAPE programme

The Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ) has spent over US$1.6 million since 2016 in promoting access to tertiary education and provision of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and HIV prevention skills and services to vulnerable adolescents in the country.

ZANIS reports that CHAZ Board Chairperson Justin Matepa says 3, 150 vulnerable girls and boys have benefited from the Adolescent Girls Accessing Prevention and Education (AGAPE) project being implemented in six districts in Eastern, Luapula and Muchinga provinces.

Father Matepa was speaking when he opened a forum on the AGAPE project in Lusaka yesterday which has drawn participation from District Education Board Secretaries, teachers, health personnel, traditional leaders and female pupils.

He said the project which originally started supporting vulnerable girls in 2016 with 1, 749 beneficiaries, has extended support to boys under the 2018-2020 grant.

Fr. Matepa stressed that a comprehensive HIV/AIDS policy and programme is essential to halt the rising cases of infections among adolescents in the country.

He said concerted efforts are needed to address socio-economic factors that are resulting in adolescents especially girls to engage in unprotected sex and getting pregnant thereby dropping out of school.

The AGAPE project is currently being implemented in Chienge, Isoka, Mafinga, Chasefu, Lumezi and Lundazi districts, to empower disadvantaged adolescent girls in extremely poor households.

And Ministry of General Education Assistant Direct for Standards Prisca Simukonda, said government is committed to strengthening the implementation and delivery of comprehensive sexuality education in schools across the country.

Mrs Simukonda said the revised curriculum is intended to provide skills, values and information to young people in the country in order for them to make informed decisions.

She said educating girls gives them an opportunity to lead healthier lives and gives them a chance to improve their livelihoods and welfare.

Mrs Simukonda commended CHAZ for complimenting government in providing access to education and reproductive health services to vulnerable children across the country.

And National AIDS Council Representative Helen Mubanga said the AGAPE project is a great opportunity for Zambia to reduce the rising numbers of new HIV/AIDS infections among adolescents, which currently stands at 43,000 annually.

Mrs Mubanga said AIDS is a huge challenge for the country and there is need to strengthen existing programmes to support girls and end child marriages and prevent HIV/AIDS infections.

And CHAZ Executive Director Karen Sichinga said her organization was compelled to start the AGAPE project in response to the Ministry of Education report in 2016 that stated that over 16, 000 girls dropped out of school due to early pregnancies and marriages.

CHAZ has since earmarked to expand the AGAPE project to Northern, Western and Southern provinces.

ZACCI calls for consistent policy implementation

3

The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) has called on government to be consistent in the implementation of policies in order to ensure a predictable business environment as well as to allow for better planning.

ZACCI President Michael Nyirenda says government should consider timely payment to suppliers for goods and services in order to avoid shocking the businesses.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr Nyirenda revealed that the Business Confidence Index (BCI) for the first quarter of 2019 has substantially decreased by 137.8 points to 23.6 points from 161.4 points recorded in the last quarter of 2018.

He explains that the recorded BCI of 23.6 points which is lower than 100 points signifies negative sentiments about the business climate in the first quarter of 2019.

Mr Nyirenda has since attributed the decrease in the depreciation of the kwacha, to low sales due to reduced demand, and delayed payments by government, poor liquidity and increase competition from foreign goods.

He states that other factors that contributed to the decrease include policy inconsistency, lost contracts to supply the mines, particularly on the Copperbelt Province and poor rainfall especially in Southern Province.

Government and the European Investment Bank sign a 5 million euros Loan for water and sanitation

Government and the European Investment Bank have signed a water and sanitation agreement worth 5 million euros for the Zambia Water and Sanitation Project.

The grant is from the European Union programme called EU Water Facility Pooling Mechanism and is part of the 75-million-euro concessionary loan provided in 2013 to Zambia for the benefit of the Copperbelt province.

Minister of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe says Government is grateful that the European Investment Bank shares the common desire to better the lives of people in Zambia.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe said this is evidenced by the support rendered in the infrastructure, energy and water and sanitation sectors.

She has explained that the agreement will focus on upgrading new treatment facilities to ensure quality and reliable water supply in line with standards.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe said the project will also include water and wastewater components targeted specifically to the poor.

She further says the main investments will go towards the low-income areas on the Copperbelt province with the aim of providing new and improved water sanitation infrastructure in Chingola, Mufulira, Chililabombwe, Konkola and Kasumbalesa.

And representative of the Head of Delegation to the European Investment Bank, Marc Leistner said most of the existing infrastructure for Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company, who are implementers of the Project, is over 50 years old and is struggling to meet growing demand.

Mr. Leister said in addition to the 5 million loan, the financing package includes also a 6 million-euro technical assistance grant to support project implementation.

He said the entire project is expected to benefit 3 hundred and 50 thousand people in total mostly in form of Gaining access to clean water for the first time.

Meanwhile a representative of the EU Adam Grodzicki said the project tackles the Sustainable Development Goal number 6 Access to Clean water and Improved sanitation.

Is Asking $300 Million out of $5 Billion Business Unreasonable?

92

By Sunday Chilufya Chanda_

We join the multitudes of citizens across the country and the Copperbelt in particular, in rejoicing over President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s leadership on KCM.

The Patriotic Front government, under the people-centred leadership of President Lungu, is a listening government with the interestsIs asking $300 million out of $5 billion business unreasonable? of Zambians at heart because after all, the minerals belong to the people.

Moreover, because the mineral resources belong to the people, only the people can dictate when one can stop mining them.

The PF Government has created an enabling environment by even providing VAT refunds that were abused by some players in the mining sector.

In February Zambia recorded a trade surplus. The Country exported more than it imported. However, shockingly, Zambians were that told some mines are not producing. Yet the nation is aware of certain people scheming with politicians to paint a picture that the PF government is not reasonable.

Is asking $300 million out of $5 billion business unreasonable?

Zambians have asked how it is that PF can be said to be unreasonable when all it is asking from a 5bn dollar industry by way of the tax regime is only $300m, yet certain insincere elements, especially in the Opposition, want to paint a picture that PF and Zambians are not pro-business!

The costs of labour and electricity which are primarily local inputs in the mining sector have significantly reduced because of Kwacha depreciation, but these same people want to lie to Zambians that the cost of production in the mining sector is going up.

PF in Government has invested heavily in road infrastructure to ensure that mining companies and other investors easily export goods, especially minerals. We continue to subsidise electricity to the Mines, and we support their fuel. However, alas, what does Zambia get in return? Threats of job losses, care and maintenance, among others!

Zambians have been taken for a ride; Zambians are tired of being taken for granted by these some of these unscrupulous elements.

There’s hope

There is hope! President Lungu has listened to the cries of the mine workers and their unions; he has heard the calls of contractors and suppliers; the President has responded to the pain of our mothers. Enough is enough! It’s time for tough decisions. Zambia is ready for worthy and credible investors.

As the PF Government fixes the KCM mess, Zambians will never forget how we found ourselves in this mess. Our people carry the painful memory of who caused this mess in the first place; and who created the desperation that caused the current the KCM “investors” to come on board in the first place.

How we got here

Zambians remember that Anglo American Corporation was the previous owner of KCM.

What did Anglo do after UPND lost in 2001?

Memories are still fresh regarding how UPND founding President the Late Anderson Kambela Mazoka worked as Chief Executive Officer for Anglo American in Zambia before he retired and joined active politics to form UPND. It has not been forgotten how Anglo American Corporation was said to support Mazoka and UPND and how the UPND founder and his promoters were so confident of Mazoka’s victory in the 2001 Presidential elections.

It is still a fresh and painful memory in many a Zambian miners mind how when Mazoka lost to Mwanawasa in 2001, Anglo American Corporation suddenly pulled out of Zambia without warning, leaving thousands of miners to a life of misery.

Levy Mwanawasa’s back against the wall

Left with the burden of jobless mine workers and the prospect of ghost towns on the Copperbelt, late President Mwanawasa’s back was against the wall and he was pressured to sell KCM for a paltry USD25 million to its current owners that have made life miserable for the Zambia miners, contractors, suppliers and all our people on the Copperbelt.

Zambians painfully recall a video of Anil Agarwal speaking in March 2014 revealing how he bought KCM for just $25 million.

Agarwal claimed KCM was giving him $500 million every year in profit, plus an extra $1 billion. Meanwhile, Vedanta had continued to claim that they were making a loss or a minimal gain at KCM.

In the same video, Agarwal mocked Mwanawasa for selling KCM to him for a song. The mess has its origins in UPND’s collusion with the previous investor who abandoned the mine workers.

I’ll bring back Anglo, says Hichilema

Campaigning in Chingola on 25th August 2016, Hichilema promised the people of Chingola that he would bring back Anglo American to replace KCM if voted into power by 2016 general elections.

It is not surprising that more recently, Mazoka’s successor Hakainde Hichilema declared that his UPND government would “hand over” some mines to Anglo American Corporation (the same people who suddenly abandoned Zambian mine workers).

Zambians also recall Hakainde boasting that some mining giants cannot wait for him to occupy State House.

The sad history of KCM speaks for itself; it shows Hichilema’s UPND is culpable. It demonstrates Hichilema’s vulnerability when he vows to bring back Anglo. Isn’t this is the same “HH” who rejoiced over looming 21000 mining job losses?

Hichilema’s remarks on the economy confirm his insincerity. Is the economic sabotage triggered by his constant flow of propaganda and false claims circulated by his sleazy online media outfits and his party (which is aimed at hurting the country for Hichilema’s benefit) the work of opposition with Zambia’s interests at heart?

Conclusion

The mess that was initially caused by the greed of UPND is now being fixed by the caring Patriotic Front Government of President Lungu.

The people of Zambia through the majority driven Patriotic Front Government will not succumb to the whims of a rogue investor; nor will we tolerate the malicious manoeuvrings of wayward and selfish politicians who do not have the interests of Zambians at heart.

Yes, there will be aftershocks after this that may sting, but specific measures ought to be taken.

Enough is enough!

Green Eagles dreaming of Super Saturday in Choma

Chiyangi’s side leads Pool B on 32 points, three more than Buildcon who host Nkana on Sunday in Ndola.

“It won’t be an easy game because we know that Lumwana are fighting relegation; meaning that they will come here to push very hard for something,” Eagles coach Aggrey Chiyangi said.

“But they must understand that we are also on a mission and the Lumwana game is the most important game for us on this mission.

“We know that once we beat Lumwana, we would have achieved our mission.

“We are not going to be pushovers but fight to get a better result.”

Eagles beat third from bottom Lowman 1-0 away in the first leg.

Winners from Pool A and B will meet in the 2019 league title playoffs at the month end and both represent Zambia in next season’s CAF Champions League.

Clause for the to allow formation of coalition government defended

36
NDF spokesperson Isaac Mwanza
Isaac Mwanza

Spokesperson of the recently dissolved National Dialogue Forum Isaac Mwanza has defended the adopted principle for formation of coalition government where the candidates fail to reach the 50% plus one threshold that it will help the nation in saving resources.

Mr. Mwanza said this principle will apply provided the parties to a coalition government manage to galvanize the total of 50 percent plus one.

Speaking when he featured on United Voice Radio’s Add Your Voice Programme, Mr. Mwanza, who is also Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Governance Advisor, said the candidate that will lead the elections but fails to attain 50% plus one votes can choose from other candidates either number two, three or four and add their percentage to reach 50% plus one of the total votes.

“Let me give an example, if the UPND gets 48 percent of the total votes, then the PF gets 45 percent, then the UPND can choose to enter into a coalition government with either the PF, or the party that is on third or even on fourth position for as long as when they add the percentage it will be 50% plus one votes,” he clarified.

Mr, Mwanza stated that the delegates at the forum thought this is one way of avoiding reruns that may be costly to the treasury.

He said this will not be the first time a coalition government will be formed in Zambia saying even the first government by the UNIP Government was a coalition one with the ANC.

Mr. Mwanza stated that in Zambia, there are political alliances and that this coalition government can still work in an event that no presidential candidate attains the required 50% plus one of the total votes cast.

He also said the decision by the UPND leadership to stay away from the NDF did not have any impact on the process.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwanza said the pronouncement by UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma that their Members of Parliament will derail the bill in parliament is retrogressive.

He said it is unfortunate that they have failed to appreciate some of the provisions such as the provision for entry of women and marginalized groups in Parliament and Councils through the mixed member electoral system.

He said these are the issues that all stakeholders including the UPND should be embracing as they are aimed at having an inclusive governance system.

Mr. Mwanza further stated that the UPND can resolve to frustrate the process in parliament but that they should put the country first.

The Spokesperson of the recently dissolved NDF has also refuted claims that the government was paying delegates at the forum in terms of allowances.

“As for me, since I was representing YALI, I was being paid K100 per day and the allowance was coming from my organization and not from the government. Other organizations were paying well. Like UPPZ President Charles Chanda who claimed that he was paid K9, 000, he came to the forum under the ZCID so probably he was paid by the center the same amount.

The allowances were determined by the organizations that sent their representative to the forum,” he said.

He since called on all MPs to put political interests aside and support the bill when it is tabled before parliament.

Zambia/Ethiopia strengthens business linkages

Zambia’s High Commissioner to Ethiopia, Mr Emmanuel Mwamba

The Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia has partnered with the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations to accelerate the work of the Zambia-Ethiopia Business Forum in fostering trade and business between the two countries.

Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Emmanuel Mwamba said government has shifted focus from political to economic diplomacy in line with the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP), in order to ensure that Zambia maximizes benefits from countries of accreditation in Foreign Missions.

Ambassador Mwamba who is also Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), said the Embassy has since embarked on an aggressive campaign to maximize economic benefits that Zambia could realise from Ethiopia and other countries of extra accreditation which included Sudan and Djibouti.

This is according to a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today by First Secretary for Press & Tourism at the Zambian Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Inutu Mwanza.

Ambassador Mwamba pointed out that trade between the two states averaged about 200 million United States dollars, which could be scaled up through increased exports of sugar from Zambia which Ethiopia needs urgently.

The Zambian envoy said this when he paid a courtesy call on Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce Secretary General, Getachew Regassa.

And Mr Regassa welcomed the proposed formation of the Zambia Ethiopia Business Forum, stating that it will help in fast tracking trade and investment between the private sector players of both countries.

He emphasized that the Business Forum would create a platform for the private sector to engage and discuss trade and investment opportunities existing in both countries.

Mr Getachew said it is through platforms like the business forum that business delegation visits can be facilitated between the two countries to promote trade.

The Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce Secretary General requested Mr Mwamba to help implement the Memorandum of Understanding that the Chamber signed with the Zambia Chamber of Commerce in 2017.

He said he was happy that Ambassador Mwamba has expressed commitment to revive the MoU and go a step further to propose the establishment of the Zambia-Ethiopia Business Forum between the two countries.

Mr Getachew said it was important that the MoU signed between the two Chambers of Commerce is actualized to cement trade and business ties between the two nations.

Ambassador Mwamba stressed that there’s need for the private sector players from both countries to develop strategies that would ensure that they maximize benefits from the larger free market once the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is made operational in July, 2019.

LCC concerned about the rising number of street light poles being damaged by some motorists.

The Lusaka City Council says it is unsettled by the rising number of street light poles being damaged by some motorists.

Council Public Relations Manager George Sichimba says the local authority is losing an average of five street light poles per month due to motorists hitting into them.

Mr. Sichimba said most of the road traffic accidents involving damage of street light installations happen on weekends and are not reported.

He said motorists who happen to hit into a street light poles due to some reason must take responsibility and report to Police or Council so that arrangements to replace the pole could be made.

“When a pole is hit into and left laying down other people are taking advantage of the situation to remove fittings. Replacement of damaged poles and fittings is a costly undertaking as one pole and fittings costs not less than K15, 000”, Mr. Sichimba has said.

He said government is doing everything possible to light up the city and these efforts should be supported by all well-meaning residents.

Mr. Sichimba said the face of Lusaka has improved so much due to infrastructure development taking place in the city and no one should be allowed to frustrate the efforts of government.

He has since appealed to motorists to be responsible enough by observing speed limits on the roads to avoid mishaps leading to damage of street light poles.

Mr. Sichimba said if the circumstances leading to the damaging of the pole and indeed other public installations are beyond the motorist control, the damage should still be reported to the Council or the nearest police station.

He explained that the LCC has an arrangement with Police that all road traffic accidents resulting in damage of street light poles reported to them should be communicated to Council as well.

NGOCC appeals to women to desist from taking and sharing pictures that expose their privacy

NGOCC Executive Director Engwase Mwale
NGOCC Executive Director Engwase Mwale

The Non-governmental Gender Organisations Coordinating Council has condemned the exposure of nude pictures on social media which have the potential to erode and compromise morals in society.

NGOCC Executive Director Engwase Mwale says her Organisation has been alerted to some disturbing nude pictures and videos of a named Kabwe woman, which have since gone viral and circulating of a video of a naked woman suspected to be a witch in Chililabombwe, Copperbelt Province.

Mrs. Mwale said the NGOCC is aware that the Zambia Police has a record of this case and knows the culprits who committed this hideous crime and expect that these people will be brought to book.

She said the NGOCC is disheartened and remains deeply concerned at such wanton trends in abrogating women’s rights and dignity which goes further to defeat national values and principles which all must resolve to uphold.

Mrs. Mwale has since appealed to everyone, especially women to desist from taking and sharing pictures that dehumanize and expose their privacy.

She said it is important that as a people, women and men, girls and boys, become cautious of their self-image and self-respect by safeguarding the kind of materials they share on social media and other spaces.

Mrs. Mwale has since appealed to the Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs, to heighten national sensitisation and broad-based consultations regarding fundamental principles on human and women’s rights.

She said there is urgent need to take the approach of engaging citizens on mind-set change around upholding Zambia’s national values and principles.

RTSA suspends Scorpion Bus services

Chibombo Bus Truck Accident
Chibombo Bus Truck Accident

The Road Transport and Safety Agency has suspended the Road Service Licence for Beta Build Hardware and Electronics trading as Scorpion Bus Services for violating the terms and conditions upon which the operator’s licence was granted.

This comes in a wake of a road traffic crash on 17th April, 2019 around 19 20 hours on the Chingola Solwezi Road involving a Scorpion bus registration number BCA 8977ZM were 14 people died and 16 others injured.

Accident investigations conducted by the RTSA revealed that the driver of the bus, Eddie Katoyo, was over speeding as evidenced by the fact that he overtook several vehicles and subsequently hit into a stationary truck in the opposite lane.

RTSA records indicate that on 11th April, 2019, the same bus driver was reported to have been driving at excessive speed around Chisamba area on Great North Road after which he was summoned through his employers, but the operator failed to avail him to answer to the charge.

Further, investigations into the accident indicate that the driver, Mr. Katoyo was not licenced to drive a Public Service Vehicle and it was also established that the driver gave false information to officers when he presented fake documentation stating that he was a holder of a PSV licence when in fact not.

In a letter dated 15th May, 2019 addressed to the Director of Beta Build Hardware and Electronics, whose buses are branded as Scorpion Bus services, the RTSA expressed concern that the operator allowed or employed an unlicensed and inexperienced driver to drive a Public Service Vehicle, undoubtedly putting lives of passengers at risk further resulting injuries and loss of lives.

The operator’s action was described as tantamount to violating the conditions upon which the operator’s licence was granted thus posing serious danger to the travelling public.

RTSA has therefore, evoked Section 108(16) of the Road Traffic Act number 11 of 2002 that empowers the Agency to revoke, suspend or vary the terms of a RSL if the conditions subject to which it was granted are not being complied with.

In a statement issued by RTSA Head of Public Relations Fredrick Mubanga, the Agency has forthwith given Scorpion bus services 48 hours from 16th May 2019, to cease operations and thereafter none of the operator’s buses shall be expected to be on the road.

Mr. Mubanga said the Road Service Licence will only be restored subject to the operator meeting the conditions that the Agency has set to address the findings from the accident investigations which include, the company availing all its vehicles to the Agency for road worthiness inspection, avail all its drivers to the Agency for retest, and Installing of Global Positioning System on the buses using the RTSA recommended installation firm.

He said furthermore, the firm will be expected to implement the workplace Road Safety Policy which is underpinned by Driver management, Vehicle management, Journey management, Health and safety at the workplace, Organization management and Monitoring and Evaluation.

Mr. Mubanga said RTSA will fully facilitate the re-testing and re-inspection of the drivers, buses and monitor the operator in a bid to uplift their road safety profile.

President Edgar Lungu says he will not allow Zambia to be black mailed or arm twisted by mining investors as the country is still ripe for investment.

Speaking upon arrival on the Copperbelt at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Airport, President Lungu said his sole purpose to the Copperbelt was to address the cry of the people in the region who wish to divorce parties with the two mining Conglomerates, Konkola Copper Mines and Mopani Copper Mines.

“I came for one reason, the people of Copperbelt want a divorce between themselves and the Copper Mining companies, KCM and Mopani and I have heard their cries, I decided to come here myself and listen to the people, the unions, the workers. I saw people crying on what is happening through KCM, mothers crying so I said if it is the will of the Zambian people that we divorce with these mines then we will do so”, the President said.

President Lungu revealed that he will engage the expert representatives who include the Chamber of Mines, various unions and the workers as well as consult with the legal brains in the country and the specialized field.

“I want to consult my chamber of mines, I will be meeting them, the various mine workers union to find out what they think. My position is that enough is enough Zambians have been taken for a ride for too long,” a fearless President Lungu spoke before stating that that he was not scared.

President Lungu said he will not allow mining companies exploiting workers in to stay in the country by paying low wages or treat Zambians like slaves.

He observed that his position was not to instill fear in investors but maintained that he will not allow Zambia to be black mailed before revealing that other potential investors linger.

President Lungu re-emphasized the zero tolerance to investor exploitation and tossed away perpetual claims from the mining giants noting that for so many years they have claimed to be working at a loss but yet continue to operate in Zambia.

He emphasized that government will not do away with the introduction of sales tax saying that it is here to stay.

President Lungu said Zambia is a sovereign state and when government decide to make laws they will not be black mailed by the investor and those who cannot stay can walk away.
