Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Davies Mwila has said government will not leave out Southern province from the ruling party’s development despite being a strong hold for the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND).
Mr. Mwila, who was on the tour of all the districts in Southern province, said in Siavonga that the township roads in Livingstone have been completed.
He said government will now move in to complete the township roads in Choma and Monze.
He disclosed that government has constructed a hospital and a secondary in Gwembe district to uplift the lives of the valley people.
Mr. Mwila said the Road Development Agency (RDA) will be on the ground to work on the township roads in Siavonga adding that government will also look at the possibility of constructing a district hospital in Siavonga.
He also told the members to start preparing for 2021 general elections and ensure that all structures on the ground are working.
He further said the party has been failing to gain enough support in Southern province because of having weak structures on the ground.
Mr. Mwila also urged members to be committed to the party and be united for them to have a solid base as they approach 2021.
“This year we have to start preparing for 2021 election. Let us get the UPND members and have them join us and all the structures have to be put in place because without them we cannot go anywhere,” Mr. Mwila said.
He has meanwhile warned the PF leadership in Siavonga district to desist from bickering as they risked being dissolved.
He said the PF will not allow incompetent people to hold leadership positions noting that the party wants people that can work to strengthen grass root structures.
The ruling party SG told the PF leadership that it will be helped for them to ensure that the party is strong at the grassroots.
And Southern province PF chairperson Evans Lawrence also urged the Siavonga party leadership to be united so that they can help to rebuild the party.
Mr. Evans noted that it is difficult to attract new members to the party when the leadership is fighting among one another and it can make the party fail to grow in the district.
The Secretary General and his team, which included members of the central committee and the PF Southern province leadership, was on a tour of the province to gauge the strength of the party and how it can be mobilized in the region.
Southern Province police commissioner Bonny Kapeso
Meanwhile, Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso has refuted social media reports that Patriotic Front Secretary General,Davies Mwila was denied police escort.
Kapeso stated that the Police in the province has given Security to many people if the threat was imminent or suspected.
He said it’s normal police duty to protect lives and property.
He said people are aware of the tense relationship between the ruling Patriotic Front supporters and the opposition UPND especially in Southern Province.

We are living in interesting times. We are witnessing moral erosion in governments. But no-one anticipated that Evangelical leaders would steep so low as to justify infidelity in the guise of political policy or material acquisition. I will lay parity to three issues: Rising moral turpitude in the Age of Trump; Evangelical secularism; and Corruption unrestrained.
RISING MORAL TURPITUDE IN THE AGE OF TRUMP
In any epoch, where great privilege is given, great responsibility is demanded. In the old ages, Babylon, Greece, Rome, British and now American empires, those who conquered the world also had a great responsibility to influence behavior. But even at its vilest echelon, leaders of empires and mighty nations knew that their example was necessary to the sanity, stability and vitality of their nations.
Powerful leaders, such as presidents of the United States, do not just say, do or react to things. Whatever they say, do or decide has, directly or indirectly, impact on their people and the world at large. In the past, America has prided in electing men who, admittedly have been weak, but who were expected (in fact) to display great moral stamina in the governance of their people’s affairs. They were expected to stand on principles, respect the Rule of Law and lead their people with unquestionable integrity. Trump is eroding all these, slowly and surely. The American president has failed to stand on principles, is brutalizing press freedom, cannot admit to his own moral foibles, has uttered degrading and racist statements against minority groups, women and immigrants, and has taken advantage of a materialistic evangelical church in America. For sure, this may fulfill some political point, but in the end, the world is at risk of demagoguism and lost moral vivacity.
EVANGELICAL SECULARISM
Jesus said that the love of money, not money itself, is the root of all evil. Wasn’t he right? Generally, the Evangelical church is becoming more secular and devoid of moral gravitas than in any age. The working mantra in many an Evangelical church is hypocrisy. It is deficient in strong leaders who cannot be tossed to and from by the wild winds of enticements. All these leaders are preoccupied with is “money”: money for this, money for the kingdom, money for material “blessings.” They are willing to support politicians who promise them free money or who will “align their policy according to the Bible.” This last issue is very deceptive. A politician ought only to recite “The Lord’s Prayer” or declare he is anti-abortion or anti-same-sex marriage, and these leaders will be bought. The result is that they will shut their eyes to the moral short-comings of the politician and accept all of his incendiary and tribal politics as truth. They will justify his election as the will of God (but they will not accept all those previous presidents and politicians before him as God’s choices, too).
CORRUPTION UNRESTRAINED
The marriage of the first two points will only strengthen corruption, especially in economically struggling and politically undemocratic nations. Why, because America (in its own weaknesses) is generally seen as a moral leader in the world. With its being weak on morality under Trump, authoritarians all over the world will justify their own behaviors. They will abuse the law, discard principles, undermine justice, erode morality and engage in corrupt practices. They will not fear reprisal, because the United States are themselves under siege. Why again, because the Christian voice which has sanitized morality and provided fidelity to politics is wanting. Church leaders are more interested in “making money” than in Christ-like leadership. Church leaders are lukewarm, complicity, unforgiving (unless the forgiveness will create them opportunities with political echelons), and in the name of God, are stealing their congregants’ wealth and savings!
I posit that the worst culprit of this moral erosion and corruption will be Africa. The West, and to some extent, South-East Asia, may be able to weather this moral tsunami. The West will manage Trumpism, because they have strong institutions and growing free voice, but Africa may not.
Patriotic Front National Chairperson for women Jean Kapata has challenged former Ministers accusing government of being corrupt to leave the PF.
Ms. Kapata has wondered why former Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba and former Minister of Information Chishimba Kambwili are still holding on to the party yet are busy accusing its leaders of being corrupt.
Addressing women officials in Nchelenge District in Luapula Province, Ms. Kapata said women in the district should rise and defend the PF.
She has warned those leaving the party to refrain from issuing corruption allegations without evidence, saying the party is bigger than them.
Ms. Kapata has commended former Matero MP, Miles Sampa who recently rejoined the party for being man enough to accept his wrongs and advising others not to leave the PF because politics in the opposition is hard.
And Ms. Kapata said President Edgar Lungu is the sole candidate for the 2021 elections because he is easy to market.
She says a PF presidential candidate for 2026 will be chosen by President LUNGU from among his Ministers or party without any talk because he has the right to choose whoever he wants.
Meanwhile Ms. Kapata says no province should be requesting for the presidency, stating that selection is entirely for the president.
She has called on women in the PF to continue supporting party decisions and the Head of State.
And Ms. Kapata has reiterated the party’s commitment to empower women with various businesses.
And PF Deputy National Chairperson Susan Kawandami urged women in the party to support each other.
Ms. Kawandami has also called on women to ensure they defend the PF in Nchelenge.
It has come to our attention that NDC leader Hon Chishimba Kambwili lied to the nation that the hacked victim following the violence that took place after he was summoned to the Police over his forgery cases had died. It has since been established that these claims were but fake news and we do not understand what his motivation for posting such lies to his Facebook page was. It’s immoral to seek political mileage over a misfortune especially if one had a role in placing lives of members of the public.
We are also aware that Hon Kambwili never made any effort to visit the victims of the unfortunate violence in hospital, but hes quick to use their misfortune for his political agenda.
Hon Kambwili deliberately avoided mentioning the name of the victim because he knew it was not true.
The Zambia Police Spokesperson Mrs Esther Mwata Katongo has since issued the following statement:
“We would like to dismiss reports circulating on social media that one of the victims hacked during the fracas at Lusaka Division has died.
We confirmed with UTH management as well as parents of the 22 years old Sibeso Kufekisa, a security guard that the victim of John Leing is alive and was discharged from UTH on Wednesday.
We wish to advise members of the public and politicians to be truthful and avoid issuing misleading statements.”
We therefore demand that Hon Kambwili withdraws his statement by apologizing to the family of the victim and the Zambian general public at large.
Lastly, the Patriotic Front continues to condemn all forms of political violence. Further, PF will cooperate with the Zambia Police to bring any perpetrators hiding behind the ruling Party’s name and associated to any such violence to book.
PF believes in co-existence and tolerance among our people and political parties. Inflammatory political language and insults must be condemned as they result in unnecessary discord and avoidable political violence.
The much publicized 2017/2018 FISP e-voucher system has not worked very well in Mpulungu District. According to the farmers butten, as at this week, only 5,000 e-voucher cards out of 9, 500 have been received in Mpulungu, but even these have not been activated.
The Ministry of Agriculture through the Ass. DMDO Mrs. Beauty Mukonka was able to confirm to ZNFU that these cards will be used in the coming season as the distribution is almost coming to a close.
Farmers have resorted to accessing inputs through alternative systems put in place by the banks and the Ministry of Agriculture, working in collaboration with input suppliers.
Only three Agro dealers (Neria Investment, Mumocha and Better Changes) have participated out of eight (8) approved Agro Dealers.
About 7,125 packs have been distributed translating into 75% out of 9,500 packs of total allocation to the district, the distribution of these inputs is still an ongoing, the cumulative total number of pack issued will be known after the program comes to a halt, however the K400 pack deposits by farmers have since come to a close.
The other Agro dealers have failed to participate due to cited challenges of where to source for inputs on credit. The Ministry of Agriculture through the PACO Northern Province had written a letter (Dec 2017) requesting all Agro Dealers to start giving out inputs to farmers on credit, were as the Agro dealer is given a list of names of farmers from the DACO’s office and the farmer provides an identity card and signs against their names on the list.
Then the Agro Dealer gives out the inputs and waits for his payment from govt to be given to them after six weeks, this discouraged most Agro dealers who lacked enough capacity other agro dealers opted in withdrawing their inputs and man power they had brought to the district, ZNFU had an opportunity to interact with a number of Agro Dealers who availed this information to them.
The National Aids Council (NAC) in North western province has welcomed the introduction of comprehensive sexually education (CSE) lesson on sexual reproductive health in schools across the country.
NAC Provincial AIDS Coordination Advisor, Hilary Sakala said in an interview in Solwezi that the CSE will help pupils learn about the dangers of engaging in sex.
CSE can only bear fruit if it acts as a platform where pupils will learn about how they can prevent themselves from engaging in sex which has led some adolescents to be HIV positive, Mr Sakala said .
‘’it is important that adolescents and young people have the correct HIV and sexual health information and skills and are able to access HIV and sexual and reproductive health services,’’ he said.
The Zambia Population-Based HIV Impact Assessment (ZAMPHIA) study conduct in 2015-2016 has revealed that adolescent girls aged 15-19 in Zambia have already stared child baring and some are married.
The HIV prevalence among the adolescents in the country are high with females recording 8.6 percent and males recording 2.1 percent.
Mr. Sakala however said the introduction of CSE in schools as a lesson will help reduce the prevalence of HIV/AIDS among pupils as they will learn the basics of HIV prevention.
He has therefore, called on the pupils to take CSE lessons seriously as it is a foundation for one to live a better life in future.
Mr. Sakala has further urged teachers to be more proactive as well and be open to the pupils if the lesson is to bear fruit.
Meanwhile Dickson Kamalata, a pupil at Solwezi day secondary school, said that the introduction of the CES lessons will go a long way in helping pupils conduct themselves responsibly sexually.
He stated that many parents find it difficult to talk about sex with their children which has led to many adolescents to try out which has resulted into unplanned pregnancies.
Dickson has called on his fellow pupils to embrace the lesson as it will be taught in schools.
Ministry of Education permanent secretary Henry Tukombe
Ministry of General Education has called on the school Authorities and parents at St. Mary’s Secondary School to devise flexible payment terms for Project Fund.
Permanent Secretary Henry Tukombe explained that his Ministry is aware of the school project Fund that will go towards the construction of the double storey classroom block at the school.
Mr. Tukombe who spoke through the Ministry Spokesperson Nondo Chilonga during the press briefing, stressed that Parents and School Authorities ought to agree on how the categories of K6, 000 and k10, 000 project fund will be paid out.
And Parents Teachers Committee (PTC) Chairperson Mabvuso Sinda clarified that the school needs over K4 million to complete the project.
Mr. Sinda said it was agreed during the PTA meeting that each grade eight pupil should pay k10, 000 as project fund just for this year, stating that the returning students will pay k6, 000 each.
He further stated that the building will help eradicate the shortage on classrooms at the school and enhance the quality of education.
And the PTC Chairperson highlighted that the school fees have been static at K3, 900 per year for the past 10 years.
He further called on the general public not to take seriously the stories on social media about the project fund at the school for they lack merit and details.
From (right) Central province Minister Sydney Mushanga, Kabwe DC Dominic Mulenga and Kabwe mayor Prince Chileshe flagging of this year’s independence celebrations in Kabwe
Kabwe Mayor Prince Chileshe has called on the councillors in the municipality to actively participate in the ‘Keep Zambia Clean’ campaign which he said was a sure way of fighting cholera.
Mr. Chileshe said since the outbreak of cholera in Kabwe, all the cases were successfully treated except for one patient who died from the disease.
He said the district has achieved this through draconian measures put in place to combat cholera.
He said these measures include the removal of street vendors from the central business district (CBD).
ZANIS reports that the Mayor said this when he handed over 36 bicycles to the Ward Development Committees (WDCs) in Kabwe Central and Bwacha constituencies yesterday.
He told councillors and WDC representatives from 27 wards that although the interventions were draconian in nature, they were taken to save life.
He said the authorities in Kabwe had to get rid of street vending to combat cholera.
Mr. Chileshe observed that time has come when the ‘Keep Kabwe Clean and Healthy’ campaign should be decentralised to the ward and zone levels.
He said there was need for WDCs and the councillors to work together and organise the people to embrace cleanliness.
Mr. Chileshe said the decentralised efforts for fighting cholera should be extended to HIV and AIDS to protect the future generation.
“For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”
(Psalm 84:11, NIV)
He Withholds No Good Thing
What do you need from the Lord today? Do you need peace, provision, guidance? The Word of God promises that no good thing will He withhold from those who walk blamelessly before Him. Now you may be thinking, “Joel, I’m not perfect. How can I have a blameless walk?” The Good News is, when you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you automatically have a new walk. The past is erased in God’s eyes. And sure, you may make mistakes, but 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” When you repent of your sins and receive God’s forgiveness, you are cleansed, and your walk is blameless. You have to understand that God wants to pour His favor and honor on you. If you feel like there is anything in your life that you need to be cleansed from, go to the Father today and confess it to Him. Let Him make you new so that you can receive the good things He has in store for you! Let Him pour His blessing on you so that you can walk in victory all the days of your life!
A Prayer for Today
“Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me and choosing to pour out Your favor and blessing on me today. Thank You for giving me a new beginning and making me blameless in Your eyes. Search my heart today and show me if there is anything that would keep me from You today in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
Some of disappointed learners of Chongwe’s Mukamambo Girls Boarding School pupils waiting for transport back home after the school was abruptly shutGovernment Health Inspectors across the country swung into action and shut down a number of schools across the country after just one week after schools officially open last week.
In Chongwe, learners at Mukamambo Girls High School were ordered to leave the school within 24 Hours after health inspectors declared the institution unfit for human habitation.
The school has 531 girls in boarding and over 3,000 day scholars.
Inspectors from the Ministry of Health on Friday ordered the school management to inform parents and guardians of the boarders that learning cannot be allowed to continue as the poor state of infrastructure poses a danger to the health of the learners.
In December, one of the dormitories had its roof blown off after a heavy downpour and government through Lusaka Province Minister Japhen Mwakalombe promised to rehabilitate the damaged dormitory before schools reopen.
But when the school reopened on Sunday, January 21st 2018, the dormitory had not been rehabilitated forcing school authorities to put the girls in the four remaining dormitories thereby causing overcrowding.
When the inspectors toured the institution on Friday, they declared that the institution is unfit to house the learners further ordering that the school could be a fertile ground for Cholera.
The school management immediately informed the pupils and later phoned parents and guardians that they have to vacate the school premises by end of Saturday.
A check on Saturday afternoon found that the school’s kitchen and dining hall had been closed and the learners in boarding were only offered meals for Breakfast and no lunch was provided.
A number of girls were found stranded in and around the school premises while some visibly disappointed parents and guardians came to pick up their girls.
Some parents interviewed said it is shocking that government could fail to rehabilitate a dormitory when they knew very well that schools were to reopen in January.
“This is so unfair to our girls. These guys (administration) knew that the dorm needed rehabilitation and they had enough time to do it especially after the holidays were extended due to Cholera but they still failed to do a simple job and now we are getting affected. Why did they get the money we paid for the fees when they knew that the school was not ready?” queries a concerned parent.
But School Headmistress a Mrs Hara who refused to be interviewed referred all queries to the Ministry of Education.
“I am just a civil servant so I don’t know what is going on. All we have been told is that we are not reopening any time soon because all these roofs have to be replaced. The place is not safe for the girls. I was told that the Ministry is awaiting for Parliament to reopen so that that they could ratify the reopening of the school,” she said.
She who also advised some parents and guardians to consider transferring the girls to other schools revealed that the administration is also exploring possibilities of sending some of the learners to Silverest High School as a stop gap measure who will only return after the rehabilitation works are done.

On Wednesday, David Kaunda Technical Secondary School was closed due to lack of water while Rufunsa Boarding School was also shut down on Friday after inspectors declared the school unfit for learning activity.
In Kawambwa, Kawambwa Boys Technical School in Luapula Province was shut down due to poor hygiene and sanitary conditions at the learning institute. A team of senior government officials arrived at this decision after it visited the school to verify health concerns raised by health Inspectors from the Council and Ministry of Health.
Both Acting District Administrative Officer, Steven Musonda and Council Chairperson, Kalumba Chifumbe confirmed the closure of the learning institution .
Mr. Musonda said that a team of Public Health Inspectors that inspected the sanitary condition at the school have advised not to reopen the school until the set benchmarks are met by the school authorities.
And Kawambwa town Council Chairperson Kalumba Chifumbe has described the poor hygiene and sanitation conditions at the School as unacceptable.
He said that the poor sanitation situation at the learning institution has been an outstanding problem as far back as 2016 and wondered why the school authority has done nothing to address it.
The dormitory whose roof was blown off in December has remained unattended to forcing the girls to sleep in over crowded remaining dormitories
In Mwansabombwe, a Team of Mwansabombwe District Health inspectors declared that four schools in the area will remain closed due to the unhygienic conditions they were found in.
The Health Inspectors who went round the district to check on schools found the four schools lacked sanitation, among other health concerns.
Mwansabombwe District Health Inspector Brian Chanda said in an interview that the affected schools have been ordered to remain closed to ensure that there is no cholera outbreak as the schools lack proper sanitation.
The affected schools area Kapale Boarding Secondary and Chinyanta Secondary Schools while others are Kabumbu Primary and Seesa Primary Schools, respectively.
The Inspectors have given the schools administration a two weeks grace period to address the their sanitation problems or risk being closed indefinitely.
Mukamambo Girls Boarding School was closed on Friday after health inspectors declared it unfit for human habitation
In Mwinilunga, Kanyihampa Day Secondary School in Mwinilunga district of Northwestern Province has been closed down by Public Health Inspectors due to poor sanitary conditions.
District Education Board Secretary Michael Masumba says the learning institution which runs from early childhood to grade 11 shares the same infrastructure following the upgrading of the school by government last year.
Mr Masumba said in an interview that the Health Inspectors closed the school which is located within the central Business district citing poor sanitary conditions not conducive for the learners adding that the school only has 5 water borne toilets and 5 pit latrines to cater for over 2 500 pupils.
The situation resulted into filthy school surroundings as a result of open defecation by the pupils due to inadequate toilets and lack of hand washing facilities outside the latrines are some of the other reasons why the learning institution has been shut down.
Mr Masumba has since appealed to all the Head Teachers in the district to ensure that their schools provide a clean and safe learning environment by meeting the required standards of hygiene to avoid the outbreak of any water borne diseases.
One of the dormitories at Mukamambo Girls High School declared unfit for habitation
In Kaputa district, Health Inspectors in closed Kaputa Primary School due to poor sanitary conditions. The health inspectors who visited the school have cited inadequate latrines as the reason for closing the school as the institution only has 13 pit latrines to cater for over 2 000 pupils out of which only 6 were in a good condition.
Kaputa Primary is the main school in Kaputa district accommodating children from the Boma and the surrounding villages.
In Solwezi, District Commissioner Rosemary Kamalonga has disclosed that 9 schools in the area have discontinued classes due to poor sanitation.
This was after a combined team of inspectors from the office of the District Education Board Secretary, District Health and the Solwezi Municipal Council went round to check on the sanitation levels at the schools.
Ms Kamalonga said some of the schools have no running water while others the ablutions blocks were poorly managed.
The DC said following the outbreak of Cholera in the country no school with poor sanitary condition will be allowed to conduct lessons as it poses a risk to both the pupils and the teachers.
Ms Kamalonga stated that the schools will only be allowed to resume classes after sanitation standards are improved.
She added that the inspection exercise will be extended to all schools in the district.
Zambia’s 2018 CHAN dream turned into a nightmare on Saturday night when Sudan eliminated them from the tournament in Morocco.
Sudan beat Zambia 1-0 in Marrakech to send Chipolopolo out at the quarterfinal stage for a second successive outing.
Guinea did the same at Rwanda 2016 in Zambia’s second CHAN tournament appearance.
Meanwhile, the spotlight on lethargic Zambia fell on Nkana central defender John Mwengani.
Mwengani was making his tournament debut as coach Wedson Nyirenda shuffled his backline after right back Simon Silwimba missed the match to serve a one match suspension following two cards he accrued in the group stages.
Mwengani partnered Ziyo Tembo while the latter’s regular partner Adrian Chama was shifted into Silwimba’s position.
However, Mwengani who had enjoyed an outstanding 2017 season at Nkana after joining from Forest Rangers instead endured a Zambia debut he will never forget.
It was through him that Sudan scored the game’s lone goal in the 32nd minute when he was turned in-side-out by Maki Saifeldin before leaving the defender in his wake.
Mwengani’s day almost turned from bad to worse in the 49th minute when he nearly conceded an own-goal.
Fortunately the football gods spared him another embarrassment and decided to guide the ball out for a corner- and two minutes later- he was replaced by Jack Chirwa.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s best chance of the game came in the 54th minute through Lazarus Kambole.
But Kambole hesitated to deal with a fine layoff from Ernest Mbewe in front of an inviting goal as Zambia stuttered to the finish line in disjointed fashion to bow out of CHAN.
Zambia striker Justin Shonga on Saturday finally broke his South African PSL goal drought for his club Orlando Pirates.
Shonga scored the opening goal in Pirates 2-0 away win over bottom placed Platinum Stars.
He could have left with a brace effort just before the break but his shot came off the post.
The goal ended Shonga’s five month drought from eight matches he has played for Pirates since he joined them from Nkwazi in August on a three-year deal.
Finance Minister Felix Mutati has said that government will this year slow down on borrowing to allow for the private public partnership model to address various economic challenges in the country.
Speaking on behalf of the council of ministers on the committee of the public private partnerships after touring the US$1.4 billion Kingsland ZAF project, Mr. Mutati said that government is working on strengthening the public private partnership model to encourage more investment in the country.
Mr. Mutati stated that government will ensure that the focus on enhancing other innovations for economic development through other financial models other than debt.
He has since encouraged Zambians to show interest in purchasing some of the houses and infrastructure that will be put up by at Kingsland.
The Kingsland 1.4 billion United States dollars mixed use project is being undertaken by the Zambian Air Force and Sun Share Group under a PPP model in Lusaka’s twin palm area covering 1,100 hectares.
The project will comprise a five star hotel, 3, 000 high class villas or residential apartments , a shopping mall, private school, police station, hospital, children’s play ground, glass bridge for tourism purposes and a rose street for wedding photos and occasional photos.
Speaking earlier Zambia Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Eric Chimense disclosed that the project has so far employed 400 workers and is expected to be completed in the next two to three years.
Lieutenant General Chimense said that the project will help ZAF officers and other members of the public to own affordable houses and will also help enhancing the tourism sector and further strengthen PPPs in the country.
