Shibuyunji Acting District Commissioner,Joseph Kamana confers with Assistant Director Information and Communication,Coreen Mvula(M) during the tour of Shibuyunji District to check on Improved infrastructure
District Commissioner,Joseph Kamana
Kafue District Commissioner Joseph Kamana has refuted media reports suggesting that he has banned churches from congregating at Shikoswe combined school.

Mr. Kamana said churches congregating at the said school have only been asked to observe cholera preventive measures and not banned from assembling there.

He said the church plays an important role in society hence there was no reason to stop congregants from carrying out their worship services.

He has since urged the church to continue supporting government’s efforts towards enhancing development in the country.

Mr. Kamana was reacting to reports in some sections of the media that he has stopped churches from congregating at the school,

And Shikoswe Combined School Headmaster Kolase Mvula said about 15 different churches congregate at the said institution on Sunday.

Mrs. Mvula has meanwhile confirmed that no church grouping has been banned from congregating at the school.

She said churches have only been asked to maintain high standards of hygiene while conducting their services at the school because of the outbreak of cholera.

Singuluma’s CHAN record broken

8

The nine year old CHAN record held by ex-Zambia striker Given Singuluma has been broken.

Morocco striker Ayoud el Kaabi’s six goals, at the ongoing tournament his country is hosting, broke Singuluma’s all-time top scorer feat that has stood since 2009.

Singuluma scored five goals at the inaugural tournament held in Cote d’Ivoire where Zambia finished third.

El Kaabi, of Moroccan club RS Berkane, broke Singuluma’s record last Saturday in Morocco’s 2-0 win over Namibia.

Meanwhile, the 2018 CHAN semifinal line-ups are complete.

Nigeria will face Sudan while Morocco play 2014 CHAN champions Libya on January 31.

Underfire Mwengani consoled by Zambia bench

16

Defender John Mwengani has received some consolation from the Zambia bench after enduring a forgettable international debut in Saturday’s 2018 CHAN quarterfinals.

A defensive blunder by the Nkana defender handed Sudan the winning goal in the 32nd minute that was scored by Maki Saifeldin that saw Zambia eliminated 1-0 from the tournament.

All this happened, as back home, Mwengani was on the same night handed the Nkana Fans Player of the Year and Most Improved Player award’s in absentia following an outstanding 2017 season that saw him earn his debut Zambia call-up.

“We had so much confidence in the player that is why we brought him in but unfortunately, he did not perform well,” deputy Zambia coach Aggrey Chiyangi said.

“But we cannot punish him, he is a player and it was his debut and he had never played at international level.

“It happens. Yes, because of the mistake he made we lost the game but it happens in football.”

Mwengani made his first start as the Zambia bench shuffled the defence following the suspension of right-back Simon Silwimba who missed the match after accruing two yellow cards in the group stages.

The power of a good suit on a President

29

Please don’t wear the attire below

President Edgar Chagwa Lungu
President Edgar Chagwa Lungu

If I were his personal assistant, I would be brave and polite enough to provide him with advice including on the wardrobe. Presidents don’t wear black trousers and checked jacket of another color on their bodies. They don’t wear two different things. As President, what you were often carries messages. That is why you can’t just wake up one morning and wear just what you want. Presidency is more than simply the human being occupying the post. A President wearing anything other than a suit on the body is normally carrying some message of what he would like to say but does so through his clothing. And often, this is not a powerful message. Wearing a jacket on top of a different color of the trousers is simply not good enough for the President. It does not show dignity or strong leadership. We all want to be unique but that should not be at the expense of good looking. Presidents chair many important meetings. They also meet many foreign leaders visiting our country or our own meeting with others abroad. Dressing that is not flamboyant and admirable can easily spoil a deal in international negotiations because other heads of state may make judgement, unfair as it may be. The world is in a hurry where business opportunities occur only once and, out of so many criteria, people are limited to a few. Impressions are made and they help investors to make a decision.

Says Aveta Business Institute, “The main reason why dressing in proper business attire is important for every business professional is because it gives the message that you are dedicated to your position.” Even hardworking employees must worry about how they look in front of their bosses and colleagues because these days, it is not only about hardworking. The way the employee looks matters too. In foreign countries, it is easy to be mistaken for someone else when Presidents don’t dress in a suit, what seems to be the traditionally and formally accepted code of dress. On red carpet, looking like this, come on, not good for you and for our country. We all have the right to seek identify, and position ourselves differently. Even Presidents have that right. But, you don’t position yourself like the image below. It certainly fails to impress. If I were judge of the wardrobe of Heads of State, I would give this image 1%. It is unique but the uniqueness is on the wrong side. Come on first lady, how come your attire is trying but you allow the big man to wear this? No, please tell him to change. It doesn’t help him or the country. I am only trying to help. I don’t mean to condescend or belittle our President. How else can we, as poor citizens who will never be privileged to be near him like Mr Chanda advise? We can only express our opinions in newspapers like this. We so this because we are concerned and objectively would like him to change. Even I as a common person refuse to dress like this.

Please don’t wear this below either

President Edgar Lungu Shake hands with Estern Province PS Chanda Kasolo at the fundraising dinner Protea Hotel in Chipata
President Edgar Lungu Shake hands with Estern Province PS Chanda Kasolo at the fundraising dinner Protea Hotel in Chipata

Please wear this below which looks very presidential.

The image below looks much better than the first one above. It is not simply about what you, as President wants to wear. It is also about what matters representatively to the people. After all, Presidents represent people. They are not in it so much for themselves. The President of any country is the chief negotiator of trade, investment, technology and other deals. Every business man, both inside and outside the country want to do business only with, or through the President. Of course, there are institutions with their own heads but like the President, they too must look professionally representative of the country. One way this is done is through good dress that portrays strong but humble leadership. Countries are routinely competing for few resources in the world. To do that, Presidents must interact routinely with potential business people hence need to always look professional. All over the world, except in a few countries where they were robes, Presidents typically wear suits like the one with our President below, not even safari suits. Safari suits must be worn during weekends or when the President is not working officially. When he looks good, the impression and judgement formed about the President and his country and his people is likely to be good too. The dress code of a President should be constantly professional. There is nothing wrong in wearing a suit all the time during business days, even weekends if there is anticipated business coming up.

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan used to wear a hat on his head. I think that is because it is a culture in Nigeria. But we don’t have that culture of wearing hats as Presidents when on official duty. I personally don’t think it looks humble and business-like. It simply gives an impression of identity-seeking. You are smart, admirably smart dressed like you are below.

Yes, in the above suit, our President certainly looks no different from former President Obama below. One day, our President will come and tell me, “Thanks, you were right.”

Meet the ‘Lyrical Master’, Tha Jedi

“Obi one with the rap game / they call me lyrical master / you should probably get my last name / yeah boy im your father “The last Jedi

24 year old rapper Kunkeyani Phiri , commonly known as Tha Jedi is rapidly gaining momentum as one of the top upcoming hiphop artistes in Zambia.

Asked how he got the moniker ‘Lyrical master‘ he had this to say; “ I had gotten to a point where I felt that I was a genius with words and I would mention it every now and then on songs and eventually it became a thing.”

Jedi has been into Hiphop from a young age. His influences range from Kenny Roc, Chef 187, Duncan Sodala ,on the local side to Kanye West, Dizzy Wright, Maleek Berry and Lil Wayne internationally. As to what made him take up music as a career he said he realised it was something he was really good at and that it was a platform he could use to inspire other people.

Tha Jedi explained that his style of music is versatile, in view of the fact that he can fit into any genre. “Currently we are experimenting with a genre called Trapindula. It is a fusion of trap music and kalindula.”

Jedi released a 9 track E.P entitled “The Lyrical Master”. He described the E.P as his introduction to the music industry. Top songs on the E.P are ‘Mama told me‘ , ‘Like I made it’ and  ‘Teti

Recently the ‘lyrical master’ released his latest single “The last Jedi” to positive reviews. “The last Jedi was a song requested by a fan as a way to celebrate the release of the latest star wars movie ‘The last Jedi’. It was created the next day after the request was made, I guess it was just good timing. “

At the moment Hip-hop is the most prominent music genre in Zambia. Jedi explained that in his view if Hip Hop artists could work together towards pushing the music outside the country we’d have a greater chance of expanding our coverage.

As we get further into 2018, Jedi stated that his fans can expect more music, more videos because, he intends to take his brand across boarders.

In his spare time, the last born of five siblings, loves to read motivational and spiritual books, hang out with friends and of course make music. “I am currently exploring acting and involving myself more in the business side of music.” he sated when asked what he is involved in apart from music.

“I’d like to say thank you to my supporters and also if you would like to buy my music you can find it on Itunes, spotify and all other major online stores. Find me on twitter @itsthajedi, Instagram @itstha_jedi and ‘its tha jedi’ on Facebook.”

HH accuses President Lungu of wanting to get rich through privatization

Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has accused President Edgar Lungu of focusing on privatizing all key state assets in order to amass personal wealth.

Mr Hichilema claimed that President Lungu has now started the process of privatizing parts of Luangwa and Kafue National Parks.

He said the move comes after the PF government sold off Chimbokaila Prison in Lusaka.

Mr Hichilema was speaking in Lusaka on Sunday afternoon during a news conference with opposition alliance patients.

The UPND leader called for unity of purpose in the fight against the PF corruption and several other misdeeds in the country.

“Today, they have gone to sell prisons where I was Chimbokaila has been sold. They have sold NRDC your own college,” Mr Hichilema said.

He added, “Today ba Koswe are negotiating to sell part of the National Parks. They started with Luangwa National Park but they have now added Kafue National Park because they feel they don’t have enough time to conclude the sale so they are doing it all at once”

Mr Hichilema said Zambians must protect the country from corrupt PF individuals who are now ready to auction it for 30 pieces of silver as they have done to NRDC and many other government properties.

“Today, Lungu has failed to go to the AU summit because the topic or theme is “anti-corruption” and because he is too corrupt he cannot go there”.Mr Hichilema claimed.

“Where will you run to? The police, the door is closed, ECZ, the door is closed, the judiciary, the door is closed, where will you run to? We need to protect everybody when they are being oppressed,” he said.

“Violence by the PF does not affect the UPND,ADD and People’s Party alone but everybody in the country, including marketeers and street vendors is affected, Mr Hichilema stated.

He added, “The PF is using the money stolen from Mukula trees. ZAFFICO is simply a smoke screen, check the bank account of ZAFFICO where are those millions? ‘Bakoswe Mumpoto’.” Mr Hichilema asked.

“As a country we must, without fail, join hands and stop the PF violence which is being heavily funded through corruption, funds such as those plundered through the immoral and corrupt manner of purchasing 42 fire engines at a cost of 42 million US dollars among others.”

“They are using money stolen from Ambulances, and Fire tenders to fund thugs and today you are seeing violence.” Today, Pilato is in exile, PF was refusing that there was no one in exile,Pilato has run away for his life. Why should a musician raising corruption concerns run away from his country?”.

“Today they have now gone for Chishimba Kambwili ,you have seen the abuse of human rights “.

He said, “our clarion call to the nation is that we must all rise above self interest, above political divide, and above tribe to stop the PF’s continued corruption and human rights abuses.”

Mr Hichilema called on more PF members to come and be part of the big family of the UPND.

And People’s Party President Mike Mulongoti has challenged President Edgar Lungu to tell the nation his true nationality.

Mr. Mulongoti wondered why Edgar Lungu is quiet about the question of his wealth and his true nationality.

He said President Lungu claim that he is a Zambian raises a lot of questions because he has never told us which village he comes from.

“Edgar claims he was born in Ndola at Ndola General Hospital, but in the 1950s, that hospital was only for whites, so how possible is that? Amos Chanda also said he was born in Kitwe, we dont know whether Edgar is a Zambian or not…and it is important that he clarifies,” Mr Mulongoti said.

Speaking at the same press conference, ADD President Charles Milupi says President Lungu and his government have killed the nation through excessive borrowing and reckless spending.

He says institutions that are supposed to protect the country have collapsed and there is nothing to talk about.

“Citizens cannot enjoy their rights as they are attacked for simply belonging to a political party. Why are we allowing the minority to attack us, to injure us….?” Mr Milupi asked.

“Either we respond in a way that they understand or we get out of politics….We go for elections, elections are mismanaged by ECZ and they are stolen. “If institutions are not ready to protect us , we need to find a way of protecting ourselves…if ECZ has failed, we have to find a way of doing things,” he said.

Zambia tables cholera resolution at global heath indaba

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Jabbin Mulwanda cuts
the ribbon to officially launch the 2016-2020 Strategic Plan, This was
during the official launch of the General Nursing Council Strategic
Plan yesterday at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lusaka.
Zambia has called for increased global attention to combat and eliminate the problem of cholera in the world.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in charge of health services Jabbin Mulwanda said the resolution is needed in order to address the drivers of the disease and accelerate the elimination of cholera.

Dr. Mulwanda said the resolution made under the strategic priority on public health preparedness and response should be considered on the agenda at the 71st World Health Assembly to be held in May this year in Geneva, Switzerland.

This is according to a press statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka by Ministry of Health Head of Communications and External Relations Stanslous Ngosa.

The Permanent Secretary proposed the resolution at the on-going World Health Organisation (WHO) Executive Board 142 session in Geneva, Switzerland adding that cholera still affects at least 47 countries across the globe, with an estimated 2.9 million cases reported and 95,000 deaths recorded worldwide every year.

He said there was an urgent need for a renewed focus on tackling cholera, which has become a growing public health threat that can be worsened by climate change if not effectively addressed

Dr. Mulwanda further said cholera is a disease of unfairness as it indiscriminately affects the poorest and most vulnerable populations.

The Permanent Secretary said 2017 has seen some of the worst outbreaks of cholera in recent history.

“For instance, in Zambia, we are in the midst of a devastating outbreak, where almost 4,000 cases and 77 deaths have been reported. Unfortunately, our situation is not unique. Some of our neighbouring countries have faced similar challenges,” Dr. Mulwanda said

He pointed out that lack of progress on cholera prevention signifies a lack of progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He said the recent launch of the ‘Ending Cholera: A Global Roadmap to 2030’ by the Global Taskforce on Cholera Control, sets out a new strategy to reduce mortality from cholera by 90 percent by the year 2030 in line with the SDGs.

Dr. Mulwanda said this will eliminate the disease in up to 20 countries, through enhancing the response to outbreaks and strengthening prevention and preparedness through a multi-sectoral approach.

The Permanent Secretary told the Geneva meeting that the ambitious objectives require high level political commitment and strategic leadership from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and member states to strengthen long term prevention and control, through improvements in water, sanitation and hygiene.

The proposed resolution, which received support from WHO member states, has since been granted by the Executive Board and will be included on the agenda items for the 71st World Health Assembly later this year.

A leading Canadian train manufacturer called Bombardier has urged the Zambian government to speed up the revival of the Zambia Railways.

Bombardier Head of Rail for Africa Christian Bengtsson told Zambia’s Ambassador to Germany Anthony Mukwita that a viable railway line will play a pivotal role in the transportation of goods and services in order to enhance economic growth.

According to press statement issued by First Secretary for Press at the Zambian Embassy in Germany Kellys Kaunda, Mr. Bengtsson said reviving Zambia Railways will complement the planned return of Zambia Airways.

“Government must invest in the revival of Zambia Railways for Zambia Airways to fully make a positive business mark as the country seeks to become Southern Africa’s trade hub,” he said.

Mr. Bengtsson expressed concern that despite signing a Memorandum of Understanding in 2016 to revitalize Zambia Railways, the deal has not progressed.

However, Zambia’s Ambassador to Germany Anthony Mukwita assured Bombardier that government through the Ministry of Finance is working round the clock to address the matter.

Ambassador Mukwita said Finance Minister Felix Mutati is seeking a diversified financing package for the revival of Zambia Railways that will give confidence to the Zambian economy and investors.

Mr. Mukwita noted that Zambia’s central location in Southern Africa positions the country to tap in the vast business opportunities to pay back monies for the bombardier revitalization.

Bombardier company, whose transportation headquarters is in Germany, has carried out feasibility studies on Zambia Railway’s 900 kilometre network of which half needs to be refurbished.

Once the railway is replaced and wagons are purchased, the company is expected to create 5,000 jobs and up its cargo transportation from the current 700,000 tonnes to about five million tonnes annually and eventually eight million tonnes.

AU summit opens, focuses on corruption fight

20

The 30th ordinary session of the assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) summit has opened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with special attention to fighting corruption in order to uphold Africa’s vision in achieving development.

Vice President Inonge Wina, who is representing Zambia, is among the more than 20 African Heads of States in attendance.

Mrs. Wina described corruption as a cancer that destroys the fabric of society.

The Vice President took recognition of the African Union member states’ commitment to fight corruption despite challenges surrounding the scourge.

Outgoing AU chairperson Alpha Conde, who is also President of Guinea, thanked the member states for their unwavering support during his tenure from January to December 2017.

New African Union chairperson Paul Kagame, who is also President of Rwanda, told the member states that despite the challenges facing the continent, it was important to infuse the economies with technology for advanced development.

“Africa is important and the free movement of the people is achievable in 2018,” he emphasized.

He appealed to the elders in Africa to enjoy their task of providing guidance to the young people.

And United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the United Nations remains committed to affirming its strong partnership to the membership and the people of Africa.

Mr. Guterres said migration is a positive globe phenomenon which powers economic growth and reduces inequalities.

Meanwhile, the member states welcomed three new leaders who include Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, Angola’s Joao Lourenco and George Weah of Liberia.

Mr. Mnangagwa assured the member states that former President of Robert Mugabe‘s legacy is secure while Mr. Weah sought for the union’s support and guidance for him to deliver according to the promises he made during election campaigns last year.

The assembly may also table the subject of conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a situation which has seen thousands of refugees seek asylum in Zambia.

In Zambia, the number of refugees has gone up to more than 13, 000, creating an overwhelming pressure on government.

Stakeholders such as the United Nation agencies and Red Cross among others, have come on board to supplement the Zambian government’s efforts in providing for the required services to the affected persons.

The assembly may also table the issue of self -financing for the continent’s economic projects.

During the official opening of this year’s 32nd session of African Union Executive Council, the African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat stressed the need for African leaders to strengthen their financial independence in order to avoid dependency syndrome from the developed world.

Mr. Mahamat has declared the year 2018 as an African anti-corruption year.

He said the fight against corruption demands putting in place stronger institutions that will bring about prosperity in order to consider the importance and urgency when addressing such a vice.

“Corruption hampers efforts of promoting democratic governance, socio-economic transformation and peace and security,” he said.

270,000 TPIN applicants get certificates

13

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) issued a total of 270,000 Tax Payers Identification Number (TPIN) certificates to applicants in 2017.

ZRA Cooperate Communications Manager Topsy Sikalinda said the authority received over 270, 000 applications from the members of the public but could not issue all of them with TPIN certificates because of some incorrect data on their application forms.

Mr. Sikalinda told ZANIS in an exclusive interview today that this number of 270,000 TPIN certificates that were issued was far beyond the target of 87,000 which ZRA had aimed to achieved in 2017.

He said ZRA receives an average of 1,500 TPIN applications per day.

Mr. Sikalinda added that ZRA was receiving support from banks since having a TPIN is mandatory for every bank account holder.

He has since advised those who have not yet applied for a TPIN to do so before the March 30th 2018 deadline.

In 2016, ZRA issued only 16,000 TPIN certificates.

Vice President Inonge Wina has urged African governments to appoint women in decision making positions to enable them contribute fully to their countries’ economic development.

Mrs. Wina, who is Zambia’s First Female Vice President, said there is need for the African Union (AU) to find ways of incorporating gender equality in the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in order for governments to adhere to commitments made during conferences.

Speaking during a high level breakfast meeting for the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia today, the Vice President said it was important that commitments made by African governments on gender equality are effected and binding on all.

“I can guarantee that if more women were in decision making positions, Africa would be a better place to live in,” said Mrs. Wina.

According to a press statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today by First Secretary for Press and Tourism at the Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia, Inutu Mwanza, the Vice President also called for inclusion of women in the arbitration committee in order to enable them take part in efforts to end conflicts in Africa.

Mrs. Wina further urged African governments to entrench affirmative action in their policies to allow for more representation of women in politics.

She expressed concern at the alleged marginalization of women in politics due to social norms that discourage the participation of the womenfolk in politics stressing that it is difficult for females to be retained in politics in many African states.

The Vice President is in Ethiopia to attend the 30th African Union heads of state and government summit being held under the theme ‘winning the fight against corruption; a sustainable path to Africa’s transformation’.

Speaking earlier, South African President Jacob Zuma acknowledged the need for African governments to appoint more women in decision making positions.

Mr. Zuma said his government was focused on ensuring that women also participate fully in national development.

And Ghanaian President Akufo Addo, who is also African Union (AU) champion on gender, said it was time that African countries affirmed their commitment in ensuring that women are given adequate opportunities to participate in their countries’ socio-economic development.

Meanwhile, United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guteres called for political will among African countries to reduce the gap between women and men in decision making positions.

Mr. Guteres said Africa is not short of competent women to fill decision making positions.

All is set for the Launch of the National Airline-Transport Minister

The Zambian government is confident that the long awaited national airline will be launched on October 24th this year.

Addressing journalists at the Patriotic Front Interactive Forum, Transport and Communication Minister Brain Mushimba said all measures, including the necessary assessment to give the required assurance that Zambia is on course to launch the national airline have been done.

According to Mushimba, Cabinet has also given an assurance that government will sign an agreement between Zambia and Ethiopia. This of course will be made after the Attorneys General has completed studying the paper work.

He added that the aviation sector is another aspect the government is working on for the purpose making Zambia open to the outside world.

“When the projects are completed, Zambia will be an attractive destination and this will create an opportunity for the people to open either direct or indirect business.”

And Mushimba indicated that the national airline policy is also being worked on. “When the industry was closed sectors suffered damage. The expectation now is that giving it life will bring hope to the economy.

He made an assurance that the government has put in place measures that the airline will not drain from the national treasury.

“Zambia is set to be a powerhouse of the industry in the region.
The political stability and peaceful transition of power makes an added advantage to the business being ploughed in Zambia.” He said.

He further disclosed that the railway sector has the capacity to help in business to support the economic growth in Zambia.

He explained that government is working on the Tazara to bring it to the original intention.

The agreements have been made and will be shared with the Tanzanian counterparts for consent.” He said.

He further indicated that the government is also interested in green field rail way project and will focus in places where there was no railway in place.

“The government is working on creating water transport surrounding water bodies and about 150 water vessels have been acquired.” he added.

Furthermore Mushimba disclosed that the government is on the verge of introducing time buses that seek to decongest the city of Lusaka.

The ministry is also working on revising the road service act. The age for obtaining a PSV driving license will be lowered from 25 to 20.

He however regretted that the road profile in Zambia is bad .

” Many people have died via road accidents. The government worked on measures to prevent accidents and this is working out for better. Last year there was a reduction in the number of people that died.” The Minister said.

Sudan reveal how they beat Zambia

26

Sudan coach Zdravko Logarusic has disclosed that his side managed to beat Zambia after he noticed that Chipolopolo would eventually lose momentum after playing three tough games.

Sudan ended Zambia’s2018 CHAN hopes after beating a lethargic Chipolopolo 1-0 in a quarterfinal match in Marrakech on Saturday evening.

Zambia came into their last eight contest after grinding out results in Group B after beating Uganda 3-1 and Cote d’Ivoire 2-0 before labouring to a 1-1 draw with Namibia who also made a quarterfinal exit.

“I had a small feeling that after Zambia had played three good games and they keep upping the tempo, fatigue may have hit them but we got one chance and scored,”Logarusic said.

“Against Morocco we did not have a lot of possession but against Zambia we played football on the floor. “
Maki Saifeldin punished John Mwengani for some poor defending in the 32nd minute to score the game’s lone goal.

“We knew they were a bit slow at the back and we waited for that luck punch and it came. That is we did with long balls and kept looking,” Logarusic said.

“If they had scored a goal, they could have won or it could have been a draw for 120 minutes.”

Presidential Affairs Minister orders Ndola council urged to stop demolishing shops

Presidential Affairs Minister Freedom Sikazwe has ordered Ndola City Council (NCC) to stop demolishing people’s shops provided they have legal documentation.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Sikazwe, who was in Ndola, described the demolition of shops in some markets in Ndola by the local authority as inhuman.

He wondered why the same council that issued people with building permits could change its position and start demolishing buildings which it approved earlier.

He further stated that people were supposed to be notified before sending bull-dozers to raze their buildings.

Mr. Sikazwe has also ordered the Ndola City Council to find alternative trading places for street vendors who were evicted from the streets.

The minister has supported Ndola Central Member of Parliament Emmanuel Mulenga’s proposal of constructing a trading shelter near Chisokone market sing Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

And Mr. Mulenga has thanked President Edgar Lungu for allowing him to go ahead and put up a shelter that will accommodate about 400 hundred traders.

The Ndola Central parliamentarian has however described the demolition of shops at Twapia market as unfortunate.
