Faz today, Saturday sent a low level representative to the National Sports Council of Zambia annual general meeting in Lusaka.

Football House was represented by its head of administration and fixtures Julio Chiluba.

NCSZ AGMs requires an association sends an association sends an executive committee member or its general secretary.

Faz communications officer Erick Mwanza said Chiluba was representing Faz as acting general secretary.

He said Faz general secretary George Kasengele could not make it because he was unwell.

Meanwhile, sports minister Fackson Shamenda said he was not pleased with the overall organization of the NSCZ AGM due to the late arrival of official and delegates from affiliated associations.

This is after it took over one hour 50 minutes before the meeting that was scheduled to start at 09:00 began at which only 25 out of 40 affiliated sports associations attended.

“I was getting a little bit upset but I don’t normally get upset,”Shamenda said.

“I will give you a benefit of doubt. Next time such a thing happens I will stop attending your meetings.

“No wonder we have problems in the sporting world.

You are totally disorganized, you should lead by example.”

Shamenda also had a go at the NSCZ for holding the AGM in the squash section hall at National Sports Development Centre.

“We are not here to watch squash, this is a board meeting for National Sports Council of Zambia, the supreme in the organization of sports,” he said.

“We depend on you to succeed if you mess up, we are messed up too and for you to be meeting in a place like this is not acceptable.

“Next time lets meet in an environment that is conducive.”

All Zambians should be given K2 million by Thursday(90th day) – William Banda

William Banda

William Banda has challenged President Michael Sata and PF to ensure that all Zambians get K2 million on Thursday, the day that marks the ruling party’s 90 days in power.

In an interview with LusakaTimes on Saturday evening, Banda said it will not be acceptable for the PF to fail to fulfill the “more money in your pockets in 90 days” promise.

“We don’t want the PF to start saying they want more time. In exactly 90 days (Thursday) we want everyone to have K2 million that they promised,” he said.

William Banda also castigated President Michael Sata for giving street vendors a go ahead to trade in the streets.

“When we were in power, he (Sata) used to condemn us for those trading in the streets,” Banda said. “He used to say, we failed to control people on the streets, in the bus stops and at markets. But why has he changed now?”

Two days ago, President Sata directed local authorities to leave street vendors alone adding that the ruling party would lose popularity if the traders were asked to leave the streets.

100 families left homeless

Over one hundred families in Lusaka’s Kaunda Square Stage One spent last night in the open because their houses were submerged following torrential rains.

A heavy down pour which started at about 17:00 hours left several houses largely submerged.

A ZNBC News Crew that went to the area around 23: 00 hours, found several families watching their homes as water surged in.

They watched helplessly as their goods were soaked and destroyed in the process.

Some of the houses collapsed, and residents talked to said the situation was aggravated by the poor drainage system.

They wondered why authorities like the Lusaka City Council were failing to move in and correct the situation that has become an annual nightmare.

Justin Malanzi said he lost all his house hold goods, which include electrical appliances and furniture.

Getrude Mumba appealed to the Patriotic Front Government to urgently work on the drainage system in the area.

President Sata cautions Lukulo Katombora

President Michael Sata

President Sata has advised Hon. Lukulo Katombora to immediately vacate office and surrender government property and cooperate with law enforcement agencies investigating him.

“It is unfortunate that Mr. Katombora whose appointment as Southern Province Minister was terminated yesterday is exhibiting some strange levels of arrogance. However, his arrogance will not help because he has been disappointed just like he was appointed,” President Sata said.

This is contained in a press statement availed to Lusakatimes by George Chellah,Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations.

“We would not want to publicly discuss the reasons for his removal as law enforcement agencies are currently investigating him for alleged impropriety. Therefore, our advice to Mr Katombora is that he must complete all the necessary exit formalities and allow for a smooth handover.”

On Friday, President Sata transferred Hon. Miles Sampa from Lusaka to Southern Province to take over from Hon. Katombora.

The President appointed Kanyama PF Member of Parliament Hon. Gerry Chanda as Lusaka Province Minister, Mwansabombwe PF Member of Parliament Hon. Rogers Mwewa as the new minister for the Copperbelt Province to replace Hon. John Kufuna who the Head of State says will be allocated a new ministry in a little while.

The President also appointed three opposition MMD members of Parliament as deputy ministers.

Those appointed are: Mr. Elijah Muchima (Mwinilunga West), Mr. Stephen Masumba (Mufumbwe) and Mr. Isaac Banda (Lumezi).

In Uganda if you commit a sexual offence, just know that you are dead – Museveni

President Michael Sata congratulates his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni after assuming the chairmanship of the Greatlakes Region during the official opening at at Speke Resort Hotel in Kampala Uganda

“In the army in Uganda, if you kill someone, rape a woman or defile a child, we shoot you,” said Uganda President and new chairman of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) Yoweri Museveni.

This was at the 4th ordinary summit of the ICGLR at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort.

The controversial leader said this after receiving the chairmanship of the ICGLR from President Sata, whose own message was less threatening to the audience: “As chairperson of the ICGLR, Zambia has continued to spearhead programmes and activities as it contributes to fostering peace in the Great Lakes Region.”

Mr Museveni, on the other hand, was in his usual element: “We should go by the biblical Old Testament principle of an eye for an eye.”

The Uganda leader was speaking against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) to which women of the region are trying to draw greater attention.

Mr Museveni added: “The punishment is clear under the court marshals in the army (Ugandan) and things move pretty fast. If you commit a sexual offence, just know that you are dead.”

Mr Museveni said it was important to instil discipline in the army and the police.

“For civilians, it’s different but I wish they could borrow something from the court marshals which don’t waste time,” Mr Museveni said.

Mr Museveni said all countries in the GLR should legislate against SGBV to curb the vice.

And handing over the chairmanship, Mr Sata said he was confident Mr Museveni would take the ICGLR to greater heights.
He said the ICGLR has made remarkable progress in peace building.

He said Zambia was proud to be associated with promoting peace in the Great Lakes Region, which has been plagued by conflict.

Delegates included Pierre Nkurunzinza (Burundi), Jakaya Kikwete (Tanzania), and Mwai Kibaki (Kenya).

ICGLR heads of State who could not make it to the summit sent representatives at a high level.

Others in attendance were United Nations Deputy Secretary General Asha Rose Migiro and Chairperson of the African Union Commission Jean Ping.

Mr Sata said it was possible for the region to create peace “Together, we can continue to make positive contributions to the region. So far, we have made significant political and social development,” he said.

He also said the establishment of the ICGLR Levy Mwanawasa Centre for Democracy and Good Governance in Lusaka is a sign that Zambia is committed to contributing to the growth of the peace process in the ICGLR.

The Zambian delegation includes Minister of Defence Geoffrey Mwamba, Minister of Foreign Affairs Chishimba Kambwili, Minister of Home Affairs Kennedy Sakeni, Minister of Mines Wylbur Simuusa and Deputy Minister of Gender Emerine Kabanshi.

Outgoing Executive Secretary of the ICGLR Liberata Mulamula said she was proud to exit the organisation at a point where the region is at its best in terms of peace.

Elisha Musoma promises to create a million Zambian millionaires(US dollars)

Fellow sons and daughters of Zambia.

Firstly, allow me please to give you all my heart-felt gratitude for your tremendous support, encouragement and indeed the confidence that you have in me as President. I thank you most sincerely. You people are great! Sons and daughters of Zambia, without blowing my own trumpet, those of you who know or have heard me speak before, are very much alive to the fact that I can make good speeches. Nonetheless, I am not going to bore you or take much of your precious time, but just go right to the points.

Today we have come to announce to you that the forbearers of this great party of ours have passed the torch to a progressive Zambian generation with progressive ideas. Zambia Republic Party ZRP is back and I, ELISHA KING MUSOMA, am the new President.

Fellow citizens, it is not a secret that our overall aim as the REPUBLICANS is to form government one day soon and help to radically change mother Zambia and her place in the world. So the question should never be whether MUSOMA and the REPUBLICANS will form government, but rather WHEN will the REPUBLICANS form government?

Please let all our people in all the corners of Zambia know that ZRP,under my leadership, will never retreat an iota from our overall aim and vision to form government, and turn Zambia into an ECONOMIC GIANT as well as the BREAD BASKET of Africa. I have a dream for Zambia! I will repeat this: I HAVE A DREAM FOR ZAMBIA

For almost 50 years of Zambia’s independence this country has been ravaged by mainly the 4 devils;

1. The devil of poverty

2. The devil of disease

3. The devil of illiteracy and

4. The devil of corruption

My government is going to wage a ruthless war against the 4 specific devils that have continued to ravage mother Zambia and our wonderful people. When Zambia Republic Party ZRP is in power, we will

  • turn mother Zambia into an economic giant as well as the bread basket of Africa by creating manufacturing industry,
  •  beginning an agriculture revolution,
  • empower indigenous Zambians instead of foreigners, offer 3 years tax exemptions & incentives to newly formed businesses owned by indigenous Zambians,
  • we shall give financial assistance, land and machinery in form of loans to serious indigenous Zambian businesses,
  • offer quality education and build universities in every province,
  • offer quality health care and facilities to all & when needed,
  • we shall bring back decentralization,
  •  lower taxes,
  •  lower the cost of doing business in Zambia
  •  make all foreign investors that enter the country to partner with Zambians and encourage value added exports among other things.

Why should our people continue to wallow in abject poverty in the land of plenty? How can you have a country without billionaires after almost 50 years of independence? My government will change that and for the first time in the history of our nation, we are going to have billionaires in US dollars and more than one million Zambian millionaires in US dollars.

So our immediate task is to begin a massive and extensive marketing of ZRP and recruitment so that ZRP and ELISHA KING MUSOMA become a household name in Zambia. Never again will ZRP die! ZRP from hence forth shall stand the test of time and live as long as Zambia lives.

To our Current Republican President, Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata and your government, I have this message for you sir. The REPUBLICANS are a progressive people hence, quite different from all other opposition political parties. So we are not going to shy away or hesitate to salute you for anything that you will ever do in the interest of the nation and our people.

At the same time I would like you and your government to know that anything that you do that is not in the interest of our people, we will greatly oppose you. Please make no mistake about this.

So in the same vein, I would like you to know Sir that, as the Zambia Republic Party (ZRP), we are in total support of your government’s move to divide Northern Province into two provinces and the turning of Choma town or indeed any other town into the provincial headquarters of Southern province, leaving Livingstone as the tourist capital: Sir that is a move in the right direction.

We are also in full support of the renaming of Lusaka International Airport, Ndola airport and Livingstone airport after our forbearers:Kenneth Kaunda, the late Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe and the late Harry Mwanga Nkumbula respectively, though you didn’t follow the right procedure.

We are also in agreement with you for calling the newly constructed Ndola stadium after the late President, Dr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, but of course not the naming of the Lusaka Hospital after him as well,as that just amounts to political appeasement because he is not the only one who needs to be appreciated.

We will also strongly advise that the new stadium in Lusaka under construction be named after our late president Dr. Fredrick Chiluba who’s immense and selfless contribution to the well-being of mother Zambia cannot be questioned or ignored by any normal Zambian.

As ZRP, we are against the extension of retirement age in Zambia because the lifespan of our people in Zambia has reduced drastically over the years to about 52 years.

I must also say that as ZRP we have been appalled at some of your appointments and dismissals, to which I would strongly advise Mr.President that before you cut, please make sure you measure twice.

Mr. President Sir, we are also against the awarding of the Public Guest House in Northern Province to the Catholic Church. If you want to bless any particular church or member of the clergy, by all means you should do that as long as you don’t use government resources.
That’s not right!

Coming to the issue of the sale of Zamtel, if there’s enough evidence that such a huge public asset was fraudulently sold for a song by the previous government, please do not hesitate to reverse and make the culprit account for it and face the law.

Lastly, as ZRP we also strongly oppose the move to appoint Mr. Mutembo Nchito as DPP. Sir, the fact that Mr. Nchito’s company, for which he was chief executive officer, failed to service the huge debts it owed different financial institutions including the government one, is enough ground for him not to be appointed as DPP while there are thousands of qualified Zambians in good standing who can fill the same position in our country.

Once again the torch has been passed to a generation of progressive Zambians with fresh ideas, so let the word go forth to all our people in all corners of Zambia that the party is reborn, the politician is born and the President is born. The REPUBLICANS are back! Let every well-meaning Zambian and non-Zambian alike join and support the Zambia Republic Party ZRP now, for a better Zambia tomorrow.

We are back!

God bless Zambia!

An opposition member of parliament has charged that the PF government has failed to tackle unemployment.

UPND’s Jack Mwimbu also said in Parliament that the PF’s promise of tackling many issues within 90 days have not born fruit.

He said with only six days before the 90 days of delivery comes to an end, many Zambians remain unemployed and the promises made in the campaign have not been met.

Mr Mwimbu said many people are unable to access the CEEC fund especially those in rural areas making it even more difficult for them to empower themselves.

Japan to assist Zambia in digital migration

11

THE government of Japan says it is ready to consider possible assistance for the Zambian government in the migration of digital Television (TV) broadcasting from analog.

Currently various evaluation and discussions are being made on the European system (DVB-T, DVB-T2) and the Japanese-Brazilian system (ISDB-T) as a possible future digital TV broadcasting system.

Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Akio Egawa is hopeful that the Japanese-Brazilian system if adopted in Zambia will accrue massive benefits for the country.

“I hope that this system will be adopted in Zambia and look forward to a day when people will drive out on picnic to any place and enjoy watching TV everywhere from their cars to houses at night with families and friends,” he said.

Mr Egawa said this in a letter made available to the Daily Mail in Lusaka yesterday.

He said in Zambia, almost all the car navigation TVs are compatible with the Japanese-Brazilian system.

Among the many advantages ISDB-T has against DVB-T and DVB-T2, is the capacity for one transmitter to send signals to both fixed TV sets and mobile TV (cellphone, portable TV or car navigation).

Mr Egawa said the ISDB-T has wider coverage than DVB-T under the same conditions.

He said the two advantages meant that the number of transmitters necessary for introducing ISDB-T is less than 50 percent compared to that required for DVB-T/DVB-T2, thereby significantly reducing the cost of investment and making migration to the new broadcasting system achieved at minimal cost.
ISDB-T digital broadcasting started in Japan in 2003 and since then, people receive high quality images on their TV sets wherever they may be including mobile phones.

“In this regard, the stability of the system for the Southern African Development Community region is guaranteed by its record in Japan. Outside Japan, the ISDB-T system has been introduced specially in the Latin American countries, which succeeded in switching region,” he said.

Mr Egawa said in the southern African region preparations are underway to migrate to the ISDB-T system in at least one country.

Kalusha Takes a Dig at Dario

26

Kalusha Bwalya has said Dario Bonetti failed to match the legacy he inherited from Herve Renard.

Kalusha told Soccer Africa programme on SuperSport that Bonetti did not respect Faz and instead only took orders from State House from ex-president Rupiah Banda.

“I don’t think we had the coach that would take us to another level,” Kalusha said.

“I think that most of the other people had their own doubts about the qualifications of Bonetti and his technical know-how. I think that he faulted in key areas for Zambia.

“He was inheriting a team that had been well trained and a lot of people were sad to see Herve Renard leave for greener pastures but his contract was coming to an end and also maybe I would say he had person reasons.”

Kalusha added that Faz was right to fire Bonetti despite qualifying the team to the Africa Cup finals to be Co Hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

“And It was not the Football Association of Zambia that recruited Bonetti, so he was just handed to us as the coach and in many ways did not respond to our command,”Kalusha said.

“You know he respected command from a higher source which I don’t think is a good working relationship.”

Power Dynamos executive committee has been dissolved.

Copperbelt Energy Corporation have not given reasons for the executive committtee’s dissolution or named a new management team.

“This serves to inform you that the current Power Dynamos football Club Executive committee has been dissolved forthwith,” the letter signed by Copperbelt Energy Corporation executive chairman Hanson Sindowe read.

Sindowe thanked the outgoing executive for the service rendered to Power during their tenure of office.

The changes come as Power begins to prepare for their Caf Champions League campaign in February.

Power are making their first return to Caf club cup action since 2003.

Power Capt Dodges Prospective TP Clash

7

Power Dynamos Skipper Joseph Sitali has refused to be drawn into discussing the prospect of his side facing DR Congo giants TP Mazembe in the first round of next year’s African Champions League.

The winners of the two-legged preliminary round between Power and Madagascar’s Japan Actual will face Mazembe in the first round of next season’s Champions League.

Japan Actual will host Power on 18 February, 2011, before the two teams clash in the second leg at Kitwe’s Arthur Davies Stadium two weeks later.

Sitali said currently the Super League Champions are focusing on their preliminary matches against the Madagascan side.

The midfielder said the Kitwe based outfit are looking forward to eliminating Japan Actual from the continental competition.

“As at now we are just looking forward to the game against the Madagascan team then the issue of playing Mazembe will come after we do away with Japan Actual,” said Sitali.

He described the preliminary round draw as fair and promised that Power will prepare adequately their opponents.

“We don’t know how much Madagascan football has changed but the draw is fair,” the former Kitwe United player added.

The Minister for Information has asked for reports from the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation, Police and the organisers of the Born and Bred Music awards by the end of today.

Given Lubinda’s request follows complaints from Members of the public of the immorality that characterized the televised event and is demanding that steps be taken.

Mr. Lubinda who is also minister for tourism is particularly concerned with scenes of alcohol consumption and footage of people wearing clothes that were too revealing.

The live programme on the national broadcaster, was on air for over five hours.

As he addressed journalist in Lusaka on Friday, the minister seriously warned the media against abuse of the freedom which the patriotic front government has given them to operate independently.

He says the ministry will not tolerate the public media to broadcast obscene pictures that may corrupt public morals.

The minister says the conduct of patrons and organizers and the general organization of the programme fell far below public expectations.

Now DEC arrests Chikoti

23
Police cordon off the entrance to the Drug Enforcement Commission

Things have turned sour for Bennedict Chikoti who went public to deny that his daughter Angela Busanga Chikoti had been arrested in Pakistan for drug trafficking.

Mr. Chikoti 68, of Ndola has now been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission for giving false information to public officers concerning his daughter.

When his daughter was arrested, Mr. Chikoti told Zambia Daily Mail Newspaper reporters that the person who was arrested in Pakistan was not his daughter but someone who might have stolen her passport.

DEC Acting Public Relations Officer, Samuel Silomba says on November, 6 2011, Chikoti gave information which he knew or believed to be false to journalists.

At the time of the interview Mr. Chikoti claimed he had spoken to his daughter who was safe and happily married in South Africa.

But further investigations by the Commission, proved that the women under arrest in Pakistan was Angela Busanga Chikoti.

Mr. Silomba says the arrest of Mr. Chikoti must serves as a warning to all the people that are bent on misleading public officers by providing false information.

Leave PF out of it, Lubinda tells Pande

Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Tourism Given Lubinda is interviewed by journalists after the announcement of members of the new cabinet at State House in Lusaka.
Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Tourism Given Lubinda

THE Government has advised MMD presidential aspirant Kabinga Pande to concentrate on his campaign instead of dragging the Patriotic Front (PF) in his ill-conceived rhetoric.

Information, Broadcasting and Tourism minister Given Lubinda said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that Mr Pande had diverted his energies from rebuilding his party to attacking the PF Government.

He said Mr Pande who is Kasempa Member of Parliament should stop cheap publicity meant to propel his desperate desire to ascend to the MMD presidency.

The minister was reacting to accusations by Mr Pande at a media briefing in Lusaka on Wednesday that the PF government was tribal and had embarked on ‘trial and error.’

But Mr Lubinda said it was clear that Mr Pande wanted to spark debate with the Government in order to boost his chances of taking over the MMD leadership.

The minister said Mr Pande should concentrate his campaigns on issues within the MMD and explain to the people what he intended to do
instead of misdirecting his efforts.

PF has opportunity to be the best government

Chikondi Foundation President Bishop John Mambo
President Bishop John Mambo

Bishop John Mambo said the Patriotic Front Government has an opportunity to be best government ever in Zambia if only they learn from the mistakes of the previous government.

Bishop Mambo told QFM that the PF should avoid being rigid in the running of the affairs of the country.

He said the mistakes that the MMD made should be a learning guide to the Michael Sata led government.

Bishop Mambo said the MMD’s downfall can partly be attributed to the sudden stubbornness of the former ruling party.

He explained that the then president Rupiah Banda allowed himself to be surrounded by wrong people who were mere job seekers.

The clergy added that it is the same people who ensured that corruption in the MMD became a way of life.

Bishop Mambo explained to QFM that the MMD stopped listening to the people labeling those who opposed certain pronouncements as opposition sympathizers.
