ZAMBIA Congress of Trade Unions secretary general Roy Mwaba

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has called on presidential candidates in the September 20 polls to be prepared to concede defeat.

ZCTU General Secretary Roy Mwaba says the republican constitution provides that there can only be one head of state at a time.

Mr. Mwaba says workers in the country want calm and peace to prevail before, during and after the general elections.

And Mr Mwaba has advised workers across the country against voting for politicians who have a tendency of making empty promises.

He says workers should not use their emotions when voting, but exercise sobriety and elect leaders who are practical.

Mr. Mwaba was speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka this morning.

He also says workers want whoever will win the polls to strengthened labour laws, broaden the tax base and enhance social dialogue.

Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has said that her party will accept and respect the outcome of next Tuesday’s election results as the will of the people.

Ms. Nawakwi said that the results will determine who the people want because they are the ones with a final say on who they want to lead them.

And Veteran Politician Vernon Mwaanga has challenged all political parties taking part in the September 20 general elections to openly declare that they will peacefully accept the results as announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

Mr Mwaanga said that all politicians must accept the certified results by ECZ because there can only be one winner after the elections.

He said that all Zambians should embrace a democratic culture where winners embrace losers with magnanimity for the sake of peace and unity in the country.

Mr Mwaanga was speaking during a campaign rally in Chivuna in Pemba Constituency in Southern Province.

Mr Mwaanga and the MMD campaign team have held similar meetings in Kalomo central, Mapatizya, Mbabala, Bweengwa , Magoye, Mazabuka Central and Sinazongwe among others.

And Mr Mwaanga says there are positive signs that the people of Southern province are beginning to want to work and be part of the ruling MMD.

Patriotic Front Secretary General Wynter Kabimba

The Patriotic Front (PF) is confident of winning next week’s tripartite elections.

PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba says the party’s confidence comes from the overwhelming support which it is receiving from all the nine provinces in the country.

Mr. Kabimba told Journalists at a media briefing in Lusaka on Friday that the PF has grown in all the nine provinces.

He also says the PF will continue to engage the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in its administration of the elections in the country.

Mr. Kabimba also disclosed that the PF has trained 27 000 polling agents to monitor the elections countrywide.

And PF Vice president Guy Scott says his party has national character because of its popularity.

And Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi says her party will implement the decentralization policy if voted into office in next Tuesday’s elections for faster and efficient development to take place across the country.

Ms. Nawakwi says some districts have lagged behind in terms of development because decisions are made centrally without considering what the needs of the people in the districts are.

[pullquote]Mr. Kabimba also disclosed that the PF has trained 27 000 polling agents to monitor the elections countrywide.[/pullquote]

She says once in power she will ensure that all areas across the country equally benefit from the national cake.

Ms. Nawakwi says efficient development can only come if the local people are included in the mainstream of the economy.

The FDD leader was speaking on a live phone-in program on Solwezi radio.

Step Mother took my inheritance

39

Dear Bloggers,

I am 19 years old and my dad died when I was 12 years. My dad had 11 children from 5 women. The only children who benefited from his property when he died were the children of our step mother who was married to him at the time of his death. We all used to live with dad until he died.

Is there any hope that anyone can help us claim our share? Dad died just after getting his pension and left a 5 bedroomed house in Avondale Lusaka and a 3 bedroom in the same area. Me (19yrs) and my sister(17yrs) from the same mother,my brother (25) from another mother and my sister( 23yrs) and brother (20yrs) from another mother did not benefit.

How can we claim our inheritance from our step mother.

Please help.

Yours,

ULTIMATE WORKOUT PLAN – BACK

6

BACK

Many people dont exercise their backs , you cant see your back in the mirror ,so you think “whats the point” . However strenthening ones back is very important. A strong back will;

  • improve your physique
  • correct your posture
  • prevent injury when doing other workouts

BEST BACK WORKOUTS

DEAD LIFT

How it is done;

  1. Stand in front of a loaded barbell.
  2. While keeping the back as straight as possible, bend your knees, bend forward and grasp the bar using a medium (shoulder width) overhand grip. This will be the starting position of the exercise.
  3. While holding the bar, start the lift by pushing with your legs while simultaneously getting your torso to the upright position as you breathe out. In the upright position, stick your chest out and contract the back by bringing the shoulder blades back.
  4. Go back to the starting position by bending at the knees while simultaneously leaning the torso forward at the waist while keeping the back straight. When the weights on the bar touch the floor you are back at the starting position and ready to perform another repetition

Precaution:

  • This is not an exercise to be taken lightly. If you have back issues, substitute it for a rowing motion instead.
  • If you have a healthy back, ensure perfect form and never round the back as this can cause back injury. Be cautious as well with the weight used; in case of doubt, use less weight rather than more.

Variations: Dumbbells can be used instead of barbell.

PULL UPS

  1. Grab the pull-up bar with the palms facing forward
  2. As you have both arms extended in front of you holding the bar at the chosen grip width, bring your torso back around 30 degrees or so while creating a curvature on your lower back and sticking your chest out. This is your starting position.
  3. Pull your torso up until the bar touches your upper chest by drawing the shoulders and the upper arms down and back. Exhale as you perform this portion of the movement.
  4. After a second on the contracted position, start to inhale and slowly lower your torso back to the starting position when your arms are fully extended and the lats are fully stretched.
  5. Repeat this motion for the prescribed amount of repetitions.

Precaution:  Concentrate on squeezing the back muscles once you reach the full contracted position. The upper torso should remain stationary as it moves through space and only the arms should move. The forearms should do no other work other than hold the bar.

Have someone to help you if it is too hard for you

BENT OVER BARBELL ROW

How it is done;

  • Holding a barbell with the palms facing down, bend your knees slightly and bring your torso forward, by bending at the waist, while keeping the back straight until it is almost parallel to the floor.
  • Make sure that you keep the head up. The barbell should hang directly in front of you as your arms hang perpendicular to the floor and your torso. This is your starting position.

  1. Now, while keeping the torso stationary, breathe out and lift the barbell to you. Keep the elbows close to the body and only use the forearms to hold the weight. At the top contracted position, squeeze the back muscles and hold for a brief pause.
  2. Then inhale and slowly lower the barbell back to the starting position.
  3. Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions.

Precaution: This exercise is not recommended for people with back problems.

City of Lusaka Football Club turns down request by PF to host a final rally at Woodlands Stadium

Woodlands stadium in Lusaka

Football Association of Zambia Division One (South) City of Lusaka club has rejected the request by Patriotic Front (PF) to host their final political rally at Woodlands stadium because the party never settled the amount owed to the club the last time they held a similar event at the stadium.

In a response to a PF request dated June 7, 2011 asking for the use of Woodlands Stadium, club secretary Silva Daka said that Woodlands Stadium and its surrounding areas will not be available for use on hire for political party rallies until after September 20 presidential and general elections.

PF owes City of Lusaka K5 million over the use of Woodlands Stadium for a political rally.

“The executive committee wishes to inform you that we are unable to grant you your request due to the reason that the last time you used our grounds, you did not pay us. City is a community club which relies on the community and the hire of its facilities to survive. However, if the bill of K5,000,000 is settled, we may consider your request,” Daka’s letter addressed to PF vice-secretary for the finance committee reads in part.

On political parties not using Woodlands Stadium for rallies, Daka said: “This serves to inform all political parties and members of the public that with immediate effect, Woodlands Stadium and its surrounding premises will not be available for use on hire basis for political party rallies until after the 20th September, 2011 presidential and general elections.”

Lake Itezhi-Tezhi in Itezhi Tezhi district

Government has re-classified four districts and has awarded all civil servants in the districts the long awaited rural hardship and remote allowances.

Itezhi Tezhi District Commissioner Mary Mukwiza disclosed in an interview , yesterday, during a meeting for all heads of government departments and Union leaders at her office.

She disclosed that her office is in receipt of Cabinet circular No. B7 OF 2011 signed by Public Service Management Division (PSMD) Permanent Secretary Gorge Kawatu.

She said according to the circular which was sent from Southern Province Provincial administration, government has re-classified the district following a verification exercise undertaken by the government and Public service Union officials for the purposes of payment of rural hardship and remote allowances.

“It has been decided to re-classify Zambezi, Isoka, Chinsali and Itezhi Tezhi Districts from category ‘C’ as specified in 2010 Public Service Management Division circular on Review of salaries and conditions of service for employees in the civil service to category ‘D’, “ she said.

The re-classification of the district is with effect from 1st September, 2011 and shall be implemented on government payroll in September, 2011.

And The Itezhi Tezhi District Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) Chairperson Chrissy Ng’andu has commended government for re-classifying Itezhi Tezhi district into category ‘D’ for rural hardship allowance.

A message to PF followers

By Musonda Bwalya:

Dear brothers and sisters of the Patriotic Front It is with great sadness that I have to sit in my room wondering what pain and anguish you must be going through considering how your leadership has over the past year taken your feelings, emotions and health for granted.

How long will you let them lie to you and treat you like you are simple machines whose purpose of existence is to merely satisfy…their hunger for power by giving them the support and votes they need to be ushered into office?

Time after time they have lied to you, raised your emotions and tampered with your blood pressure just for their selfish desire and amusement. Some of the incidences in which they have taken you for mere puppets are as follows:

1. PF/UPND Pact

Some time ago a union between your party and the United Party For National Development was formed on account that neither of them could defeat the ruling Movement for Multi-party Democracy alone. While this was true, the UPND were looking at a more bigger picture of giving Zambians meaningful change by providing a leadership with a national face (UPND’s major strongholds are PF’s weakest areas and vice versa) and harmonizing social-economic policies considering that the two parties were different ideologically i.e the PF being socialist and the UPND with a propensity towards capitalism, the PF’s main preoccupation was that of sharing leadership positions; kind of saying lets take care of our selfish interests first and then the wishes of Zambians will come later. When the UPND did not agree to this they were called all sorts of names including UNDER 5’s and that they were so shallow that they THINK WITH THEIR TRIBES.It is these insults and other irreconcilable differences that led to the demise of the Pact. Its almost easy to blame the PF for they have shown on other occasions that they cannot work with other parties and are intolerant of divergent views. In 2006 their pact with the United Liberal Progressive party collapsed because they ULP wasn’t consulted and did not agree on the stance taken by the PF to promise to liberate FTJ (mhsrip) without a fair trial because he was innocent and that as a way to gain votes in areas were the late was popular.

2. APRIL FOOLS DAY CIRCUS

After the collapse of the pact, the PF went on a solo campaign and lied to you by telling you that the elections would be held on 01st April, 2011. They again psychologically prepared you to cast you votes on a day reserved for FOOLS! More fictitious dates were announced by your leaders and you still believed.

3. TEA-PARTY GET TOGETHER CONVENTION

In a bid to create a picture that they were a democratic party, your leaders hosted a convention were 3500 delegates were in attendance. To everyone’s shock and dismay, not a single ballot was cast yet proving to you that democracy and divergent views were alien to the PF. Sadly however such tenets are enshrined in their constitution which they have promised to deliver within 90 days of assuming office.

ARTICLE 57: ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF CENTRAL COMMITTEE

(1) The election of twenty (20) Members of the Central Committee shall be held at the General Conference of the Party.
(2) Candidates shall indicate to the President of the Party not less than one day before the day of the Conference their intention to stand for the office of the Member of
the Central Committee.
(3) (a) The President of the Party shall submit his list of candidates together with the names of other candidates for the office of the Member of Central Committee to the
National Council for consideration and approval.

The question is why should the constitution demand that someone aspiring for higher level needs seek first the approval of the president? Is the president a god?

4. MASS DEFECTIONS

Your leaders promised you defections to you party in large numbers from the ruling MMD. The yet again prepared you psychologically to receive people you called liers, corrupt, selfish and incompetent and whose failure and betrayal prompted you to seek change of government.

They demanded that you accept these “rejects” as your leaders because politics was not about SERVICE but about NUMBERS. THEY TOLD YOU TO REJECT AND ABANDON MEMBERS WHO FOR 10 YEARS HAD BEEN LOYAL TO THE PARTY AND ITS CAUSE AND INSTEAD OPT FOR JOB SEEKING POLITICAL OPPORTUNISTS.

5. DESPERATE MEASURES

Seeing that they were ill prepared for the polls after the election date had been announced, your party had gone into panic mode.First was when they filed an injunction restraining the candidate of the ruling party from standing on flimsy charges of parentage. When this failed they demanded the halting of the election date on other false and baseless claims including those to do with the printing company contracted to print ballot papers, and the source of funding for campaign materials.

As if this wasn’t enough they together with their public relations wing newspaper published a false opinion poll suggesting that your leader would win the elections by 55%. SADLY HOWEVER THE UNIVERSITY THEY CLAIM HAD CONDUCTED THE POLL ISN’T EVEN IN EXISTENCE.

They then brainwashed some of you to the point of having voices inside your heads telling stories that not even three year olds cannot believe. I CANT HELP BUT ASK: HAVE YOU BEEN BEWITCHED? HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO ZOMBIES? These questions silly as they may sound remind me of a story I read early this concerning fears among some of your members that that some leaders had become so desperate that they had resorted to witchcraft.

6. PARANOIA

It seems in the end that your party is trying to use lies, rumour and gossip to create in you a sense of insecurity, hatred, and paranoia that these elections will not be free and fair through constantly attacking the ECZ, the police and the judiciary thereby creating a false impression that you cannot trust the above institutions and as such the only to acquire justice is through unrest and violence.

But remember WE ARE ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION AND THIS COUNTRY IS BIGGER THAN ANYONE OR ALL OF OUR LEADERS. LET US NOT BE FOOLED INTO BELIEVING THAT INSTABILITY IS THEY KEY TO SUCCESS AND THAT PEACE IS STUPIDITY! THIS IS THE OCCULT VIEW OF PROGRESS AS WAS WRITTEN BY A MASTER MASON IN THE 1940’s

7. DONCHI KUBEBA

Finally I leave you with the real meaning of donchi kubeba. That which your leaders wont tell you about the selfish dictatorial manner in which they will run this country. Have you noticed that non of you never reports on anything progressive or developmental that your leader said except the” crowd was big and ni donchi kubeba” ? Thats because they never engage you in issue based debates but just vilify other people. Tell me how will talking about Rupiah, Dora or HH put any food on your table and send your children to school? How will rumours improve your lives?

So this is how your party intends to govern you. I urge to analyse these methods objectively and see if this is the way to govern a country for democracy, development and tolerance for divergent views. Please vote wisely.

ARTICLE 3: PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS

The Party shall ensure that all the public institutions, State-owned enterprises and popular mass and similar organizations are led by persons who are members of the Party and who are uncompromisingly committed to achievements of the Party.

ARTICLE 4: STRUGGLE AGAINST EXPLOITATION

The Party shall wage a relentless struggle against all domestic and international forces of reaction. It shall fight for the eradication of Capitalism, with its offshoots; poverty, with its offshoots of Hunger, Ignorance, Disease, Crime, Corruption and the exploitation of man by man.

ARTICLE 15: OBLIGATIONS OF A MEMBER

1) It is the obligation of a member of the Party:

(d) To support and implement all Socialist oriented decisions and projects proposed or Adopted by the Party;

DISCIPLINARY  ORGANS

(a) The Appointments and Disciplinary Committee of the Central Committee shall be responsible for the discipline of the following leaders irrespective of the locality where the offence is committed;

(i) Members of the Central Committee, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Provincial Political Secretaries, and Heads of Zambian Missions abroad;
(ii) all officers of and above the rank of Assistant Secretary in the Party and Government;
(iii) all officers of and above the rank of High Court Judge including Director of Public Prosecutions;
(iv) all officers of and above the rank of General Manager of a parastatal organizations

Ps: It is my hope and prayer that your leadership had nothing to do with the tricking of KK into signing a statement concerning the elections

FISP increament unrealistic-CSPR

3

Civil Society for Poverty Reduction-CSPR in Southern Province has received recent announcement by government stance to increase the number of beneficiaries under the Farmer Input Support Program-FISP for 2011/2012 farming season from 891,500 to 914,690 beneficiaries with serious exceptions.

Southern Province CSPR Chairperson Bright Jalila told Lusakatimes reporter in an interview yesterday saying government should have considered concerns raised by stakeholders before embarking on the increase.

“Whereas the government of the Republic of Zambia under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has made considerable efforts to come up with poverty reduction programs such as the Fertilizer Input Support Program to enable farmers have access to fertilizer and seed. The program has proved ineffective”,Jalila said.

“CSPR took a study designed to generate information and offer analysis of the implementation and recommendation for improving the impact of the program on food security and poverty reduction among others but we regret that our government has continued to give a deaf ear and we wonder what sought of government we have that which cannot listern to the concerns that affect our farmers”, he added.

“The research revealed that belonging to a cooperative was the overriding requirement for farmers to access the inputs;however some vulnerable farmers had challenges in raising the upfront required by the cooperatives.Respondents raised alot of major concerns on late delivery of the inputs and inadequacy of the quantities supplied. The study noted that no farmer had graduated from the FISP in all the cooperatives of both Monze and Mazabuka districts”, said Jalila.

And after the research, Civil Society for Poverty Reduction-CSP made some recommendations to the government including the call on the government to put in place mechanisms to ensure that inputs are delivered on time.

“There is need for the FISP to include the aspect of vulnerable but viable farmers as one of eligibility criteria for beneficiaries because at the moment those with capacity to buy inputs at market price are benefiting. There should be more sensitization on graduation from FISP and a clear cut strategy on weaning off farmers from the program”,said Jalila.

TP Mazembe Target Thomas Nyirenda

4

TP Mazembe of DR Congo are said to be chasing Zambia and Konkola Blades utility midfielder Thomas Nyirenda’s signature.

Blades secretary Michael Nsefu said in an interview that TP is one of three foreign clubs that has expressed interest in Nyirenda.

“It is true. Mazembe, a Chinese club and a South African club are interested in Nyirenda,” Nsefu said.

Nyirenda is one of dozen regular home-based players in the Zambia national team.

He played in Zambia’s 2-1 away win over Comoros on September 5 in a 2012 Africa Cup group C qualifier.

2011 All Africa Games: Netball Wins Bronze

3

The Zambia netball team made history today in Mozambique after winning its first ever medal at the All Africa Games.

Zambia netballs win was also the country’s first medal so far at the games in Maputo that come to close this Sunday.

Zambia secured bronze after beating Ghana 106-16 in their final round-robin game played on Thursday.

However, Zambia was denied silver on a technicality which went to Tanzania despite overhauling the latter’s superior goal difference in the game against Ghana.
Uganda took the gold.

Tanzania secured silver thanks to a 43-25 win over Botswana in the later kickoff on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Zambia netball teams’ win puts a shine on a disastrous All Africa Games outing especially in boxing.

Swimming, karate, badminton, tennis and table tennis all failed to yield any medals.

Judo and chess are still in contention with action coming up on Friday although a gold or silver should be in the offing in the individual chess category.

Mr. Mukuka said this in a statement released to ZANIS in Kitwe on Wednesday.

Mr. Mukuka further appealed to the miners to ensure that next week’s elections are held in a peaceful, free and fair atmosphere.

He urged miners to vote for parliamentary and presidential candidates that are going to spur the country to greater development, peace and stability.
