Tuesday Zambian Football Update

15

Zambia entered day two of camping training on a quiet grey and cold day in Lusaka.

Assistant coach George Lwandamina took the 18-man squad through its paces at Bank of Zambia sports complex in Lusaka after training from Independence Stadium on Monday.

“We have yet to line-up any training games against any club,” Lwandamina said.

“We have played too much of the same (Lusaka) clubs and we feel that playing against them we cannot get what we want to see.”

Lwandamina also praised defenders Elijah Tana and Clive Hachilensa progress so far in training adding they had proved their fitness in light training without a hitch.

Hachilensa who is currently training with Zesco United and Tana of Nchanga Rangers both joined the team in camp on Sunday

Meanwhile, Lwandamina is expecting Lusaka Dynamos goalkeeper William Chibale to join the team tomorrow.

Chibale, one of four debutantes in the team, is currently en route back to Zambia from Mauritius with the Under-20 team where the side beat their Island hosts 2-0 in an Africa Youth Championship qualifier on Sunday.

Katele Using Levy’s Illness to Further his Agenda-Teta

274

Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) National Secretary Katele Kalumba is being accused of using President Mwanwasa’s illness to further his presidential ambitions.

The accusation is from MMD Chairperson for Information and Publicity Ben Tetamashimba.

Mr. Tetamashimba said Dr. Kalumba is twisting issues to gain political mileage using Dr. Mwanawasa’s illness.

He challenged Dr. Kalumba to state his position over his ambitions for the presidency.

Efforts to get Dr. Kalumba failed.

Mr. Tetamashimba also accused at a press conference he held, sections of the ruling party of trying to overwork Dr. Mwanawasa.

Mr. Tetamashimba said his succession remarks have been twisted by some people within the MMD to suit their political ambitions.

He maintained that he stands by his pronouncement aimed at preventing a situation where President Mwanawasa is overworked.

Mr. Tetamashimba said he would not allow people with a hidden agenda to twist his succession remarks and criticize him.

Mr. Tetamashimba advised the First Family to be weary of some sympathizers as their sympathy is not genuine.

The MMD spokesperson evoked mixed feelings and reactions after he was quoted to have said that the MMD should discuss the issue of succession when President Mwanawasa returns home from France where he is receiving medical attention.

Meanwhile, cabinet has been asked to show leadership in responding to questions being raised on what would happen if the President is unable to resume work.

Former Vice President, Nervous Mumba however urged cabinet to follow the constitution should such a thing happen.

He said the current illness of President MWANAWASA should not divide the nation and called on all sectors of the nation to unite.

Dr. Mumba also said the current ailment of the President should not be used as a tool for some people to advance their political ambitions.

He told a media briefing in Lusaka, that the current differences that have arisen in the MMD because of the illness of the President should not be entertained any further.

And the Bank of Zambia (BOZ) says President Mwanwasa’s illness will not affect the economy.

Bank Governor, Caleb Fundanga said the country has over $1 billion in reserves.

He said this is enough to cover any foreign exchange withdrawals by investors, who may be uncertain with President Mwanawasa’s illness.

Dr. Fundanga said this at the Banks quarterly media briefing.

He admitted that the Kwacha suffered some depreciation when the President was taken ill but was quick to note that it also appreciated last week.

Dr. Fundanga said there is no need to panic and urged citizens to work harder to sustain the current economic growth.

President Mwanawasa suffered a stroke late last month and is currently admitted to Percy Military Hospital in France.

Rupiah Banda said the president’s condition has not worsened from the time he was admitted to Percy Military Hospital in, Paris – France.

He assured the nation that the updates being given are a true reflection of the progress made so far.

Mr. Banda said government has reported everything the nation wants to know about the President’s health and will continue giving reports to the nation.

NCC Endorses 50+1 Clause

85

THE National Constitutional Conference (NCC) democratic governance committee yesterday endorsed a clause of the draft Republican Constitution, which recommends that a winning presidential candidate must have not less than 50 per cent plus one vote.

The committee, chaired by Foundation for Democratic Process executive director, Stanley Mhango, recommended that clause 95 (1) be retained to enhance legitimacy, curb regionalism and integrate Zambians through a popularly elected leader.

Contributing to the debate, University of Zambia dean in the school of social sciences and humanities, Professor Bizeck Phiri, said the clause would help integrate the people in the country.

“This clause does not pose any serious problem. It will bring legitimacy to the people who aspire to be leaders in the country,” he said.

Article 95 (1) states that elections to the office of president shall be conducted on the basis of a majoritarian system, where the winning candidate receives not less than 50 per cent plus one of the valid votes cast and in accordance with article 125.

Mapatizya MP, Akson Sejani, said it would be morally wrong to strike out the article as the majority of the petitioners had recommended that the president should get not less than 50 per cent plus one vote.

Mr Sejani said the clause was one of the benchmarks on which the Constitution making exercise would be judged, as the people overwhelmingly petitioned that the clause be added in the new Constitution.

Press Association of Zambia president, Andrew Sakala, said there was need to add the clause in the new Constitution, arguing that it would enable political parties field credible candidates so that they could compete at national level.

Mr Sakala said the issue of re-runs should not be the reason for shunning the system, saying democracy was not a cheap exercise.
Bwalya Chiti and Chief Kashiba also supported the 50 per cent plus one vote.

Health Deputy Minister, Lwipa Puma, however, opposed the idea of enshrining the clause arguing that the exercise was costly.

Dr Puma said the money to be spent on the exercise could instead be channeled to other needy areas such as education and health sectors.

Dr Puma’s sentiments were also echoed by Luapula Province Minister, Crispin Musosha, who said there was no need to experiment ideas, which were costly.

Who is Responsible?

85

Dear Jelita,

I hope you are fine. As you know I travelled to Zambia two weeks ago. It was so nice to be at home. I took a flight from New York to Johannesberg, then connected to Ndola. The first thing that hit me was how dirty the place looked. It pained me that up to now our Government can’t improve the way the country looks. However, as I went to buy fruit at Shoprite I quickly felt at home among our friendly people. It was even nice seeing the Kaponyas as they rushed to get my shopping bags from me-ofcourse at a fee!

I then travelled to Chingola. Thats when my heart really sank. The Kitwe-Chingola road is so congested with trucks. We were travelling at 20km/hr and guess what, we were travelling behind a huge truck carrying explosives for the mines! It didn’t even have an escort car to warn motorists. It was almost impossible to overtake, for one, the road is narrow and there were other trucks, buses, cars heading in the opposite direction. I’ve never been so terrified. I quickly noticed a new driving pattern. People were just overtaking anyhow and it was up to the on coming car to slow down. It took us over an hour to crawl to Chingola.

Honestly can’t the authorities do something about that road! The mines are making so much money. I mean copper is over $8000/ton. Can’t they build roads for their trucks instead of endangering the public? That Kitwe -Chingola road needs to be a dual carriage way at the least. Foolishly enough I saw some factory being built near the road along the Kitwe/Chingola road. If in future someone wants to expand the road what are they going to do about these plants that are built so close to the road? If the local government has no money they should at least close the road to trucks say from morning to evening which is the time the general public mostly travels. Or they could set up toll roads as a way of collecting revenue.
I’m so cross with the government, they were so quick to sell our mines and didn’t take our peoples needs into consideration.

Is it the Chingola council responsible or do we point a finger at the President?
If you have the address of the idiot responsible for this please forward his/her address to me.
Well sorry for being so political but I was really pissed. More next time.

love Womba

He said France has contributed greatly to the well being of Zambians in social and economic development.

Mr. Magande said there was need for the French government to continue assisting Zambia to fully recover from its economic depression in order to improve the living standards of her people.

He said the French government should contribute to the well-being of Zambians in areas of the socio-economic development that include the health and education sectors.

Mr. Magande also thanked the French government for the crucial role it has continued to play in providing Zambia with the much needed professional human resource.

He said the French government’s sending of more human resource to Zambia was a clear testimony that country’s commitments to assist the country to meet its targeted human resource.

Mrs. Le Bihan said her country would continue supporting Zambia in many areas of economic development.

CPA Praise Lumwana Mine for employing locals

9

The Commonwealth Parliamentarian Association (CPA) has commended Lumwana Mining Company in Solwezi for involving local people in the construction of the mine.

CPA Africa Regional Chairperson, Mninwa Mahlangu, said he was very impressed that the mining company was involving local people in the development of mine.

Mr. Mahlangu, who is also South African Member of Parliament and National Council of Provinces Chairperson, said the mining company’s initiative was very good.

He pointed out that most big companies’ had a habit of engaging expatriates at the expense of local people.

He was further impressed that the biggest copper mining company in Zambia has also taken companies from various African countries on board in its operations.

Mr. Mahlangu said that the Lumwana’s initiative to include other African countries in its operations would promote unity among Africans in fighting poverty, unemployment and diseases in the continent.

He said this after CPA parliamentarians toured Lumwana and Kansanshi mines in Solwezi district in North western province today.

He commended the Zambian government for cooperating with mining companies, adding that this would help stabilise the country’s economy.

Lumwana Mining Company has since sponsored 54 Zambians to the University of Zambia’s School of Mines to study various mining disciplines, among them mining engineering, geology, metallurgy, chemical, mechanical and electrical engineering.

The biggest single copper mine in Africa is scheduled to be commissioned and commence full scale mining later this year.

Grandstand: Stretched on Resources

10

Zambia’s senior and junior national team set-ups are looking very stretched in the striking department as both sides both struggle to find a dependable and consistent finisher.

Both have recently found themselves having to share their attacking resources in the midst of a striker’s shortage currently prevailing across the entire league.

Kabwe Warriors striker Emmanuel Mayuka ‘s addition to the Under-20 teams 2009 Africa Youth Cup qualifying campaign that saw him score the first goal on Sunday in a 2-0 win over Mauritius is a clear point in question.

Mayuka including his fellow senior and junior attacking partner from Zanaco Roger Kola, who withdrew from the Under-20 trip to Mauritius due to a trial commitment in Europe, are this season’s most prolific young guns on 9 and 8 competitive goals respectively.
However, Zambia coach Herve Renard has aired his misgivings about having players, especially Mayuka and Kola, rotating between the senior and junior teams.

Sadly there seems nothing the Frenchman can do to stop the trend for the time being in a league lacking any excesses of decisive and electrifying flare in attack.

But if anyone thinks that is serious enough, the striking malaise is set to get worse on the homefront come November when Zambia faces Angola in November in a 2009 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) 3rd round final qualifying stage.

And thanks to this years Fifa summer international transfer window, Zambia faces the prospect of having two of its prized homebased prolific strikers lose their eligibility for the CHAN qualifiers.

Kola is set for a 6-month deal with Russian side Spartak Moscow while Mayuka could probably be on his way to Europe with a promising deal shimmering over the horizon at FC Porto in Portugal.

That will leave Renard threadbare on local strikers in the inaugural continental football tournament exclusively for home-based players.

And with that, Renard will be banking on a good Cosafa Cup outing from Power Dynamos striker Francis Kombe- now almost attaining peerless status in the local league.

Kombe has continued to be one of the local leagues most consistent forwards over the years and has this season recorded 8 league goals this season- a tally he averages every year since making his top-flight debut with Nchanga Rangers in 2002.

However, while Kombe has been electrifying at club level, he has failed to ignite at senior level despite a good run at junior level with both the Under-20 and Under-23 teams.
Kombe and the local strikers available on July 27 when Zambia face Zimbabwe in rural Mpumalanga at Secunda in the Cosafa Cup quarterfinals should give us a sneak-preview of the best or worst to come for Chipolopolo as we roll down to Christmas.

Fred M’membe Takes Dan Pule to Court

372

Post Newspapers Proprietor Fred M’membe and his wife Mutinta have sued Dunamis fire Impact ministries clergyman, Pastor Dan Pule for defamation.

The couple’s lawsuit filed in the Lusaka High Court Monday morning, relate to comments by Pastor Pule at a press briefing he convened on June 24 this year to defend his controversial new marriage to third wife Tamara.

At the briefing Pastor Pule is alleged to have referred to Mr. M’membe’s recent marriage to Mutinta as a bigamy.

And in a separate lawsuit, the couple has also sued The New Nations newspapers and its editor Mcdonald Chipenzi for defamation over an article entitled “Post Editor’s Wife’s ex Husband to speak out” published in its June 16 edition of 2008.

Mr. M’membe and Mutinta are aggrieved by Pastor Pule’s remarks as well as the article published in the New Nation tabloid, which they claim has brought them into scandal and disrepute.

Mr. and Mrs. M’membe say the remarks by Pastor Pule and the Article in the New Nation portrayed them as having loose morals and that they are engaged in an adulterous union.

They complain that their reputation has been injured as Mr. M’membe is deemed to have married a legally married woman, and that he is not only a home wrecker but is generally in the habit of breaking the law by marrying a legally married woman therefore liable to be questioned and tried for bigamy.

He further complains that the words by Mr. Pule mean that his morals and behaviour are similar to that of Pastor Pule whose behaviour and morals have recently been publicly questioned.

And the third lawsuit relating to the same matter is against three Zambia National students Union members Sage Samuwika, Kenneth Mukosa and Chimuka Milambo.

The trio is alleged to have issued a press statement to the Post Managing Editor Amos Malupenga and the Post News Papers Marketing Department that referred to Mr. M’membe’s recent marriage as adulterous.

It further said Mr. M’membe was involved in a dangerous road accident that he never reported to the police.

He is claiming for damages and seek an injunction restraining the students from causing to be published any more articles he deems as injuring his reputation.

Teta still under fire

118

The Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD)in Luapula Province has added its voice in slamming party National Spokesperson Benny Tetamashimba for suggesting that the ruling party should find a leader to replace President Levy Mwanawasa when he returns.

And the MMD in Luapula Province has called on Zambians not to relent in praying for the full recovery of President Mwanawasa adding that there is nothing impossible with God.

Luapula Province MMD executive through its Provincial Party Chairman Major Chibwe Nsakasha said the MMD in Luapula was saddened by the suggestions to replace President Mwanawasa when he was still in hospital.

Major Nsakasha said that instead of contemplating leadership succession for President Mwanawasa it was only prudent for Mr Tetamashimba to pray for the full recovery of the President.

In an interiew today with ZANIS, Major Nsakasha termed Mr Tetamashimba’s action as inhuman and against the Zambian culture saying this needed to be strongly condemned.

He said that the Party in Luapula was strongly opposed to Mr Tetamashimba’s suggestions and that his remarks were aimed at disorienting the party in the absence of President Mwanawasa.

The Provincial Chairman said that remarks by Mr Tetamashimba would however, not have have any negative effects on the party’s unity in Luapula Province.

He said that the MMD membership in the Province remained united.

“We would like to disassociate ourselves from the recent media reports about our spoksperson Mr. Tetamashimba that president Mwanawasa should be replaced when he comes back from France we condemn the statement and Mr. Tetamashimba and urged the entire country to rally against it,” Mr. Nsakasha said.

Mr. Nsakasha was reacting to Tetamashimba’s remarks recently urging the MMD to consider President Mwanawasa’s successor when he returns from Percy Military Hospital in France where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Zambians have continued to pray for the recovery of President Levy Mwanawasa who is hospitalised at Percy Military Hospital in France.

Scores of Mumbwa residents in Central Province joined the rest of the nation in observing prayers for the recovery of President Mwanawasa during an inter-denominational service over the weekend.

The prayer service, held at United Church of Zambia(UCZ) attracted an over capacity crowd from various denominations within the District, who included Government officials,MMD as well as opposition Party officials.

Leading Mumbwa’s Clergymen, Pastor’s Fellowship Chairperson Ephraim Lungu, assured residents that the power of collective prayer could bring about intervention from God for the President’s healing.

Pastor Lungu, from Heritage of Faith Church, said that it was evident that Mumbwa residents were petitioning to God for the recovery of President Mwanawasa, and that this prayer needed to be accompanied by unquestionable faith in the power of God.

He disclosed that the Pastors of Mumbwa had gone as far as declaring ‘Mumbwa for Jesus’ because they had unanimously resolved that a unified voice of prayer would lead to prompt recovery of the President.

Another Preacher, Reverend Peter Simwanza of UCZ said that he was sure that the President health was under the auspice of God because he had not yet completed his spiritual mission for Zambia.

Reverend Simwanza said that he had prophesied long ago that President Mwanawasa was chosen by God to mold Zambia into a Christian Nation, and to steer it into greater heights of development.

He appealed to Mumbwa residents to be calm and optimistic, adding that prayers for the President’s recovery had already been granted.

Reverend Simwanza also urged Preachers from other Church bodies to ensure that inter-denominational prayer services be held frequently, in which people could pray for peace, progress and investment prospects of Mumbwa district.

The inter-denominational prayer gathering at UCZ became the second prayer service in Mumbwa to be devoted to the President’s recovery, in which multitudes of residents filled UCZ central church, with the crowds spilling over onto the hospital round-about road.

Early last week, Mumbwa’s Zambia Police Officer Commanding, Douglas Chamonda kick started the first prayer service devoted to the President’s recovery.

I Dont Need to Ask for Forgiveness-Sinyangwe

47

National Constitution Conference (NCC) 2nd Vice-Chairperson and Matero Member of Parliament Faustina Sinyangwe says Patriotic Front Members of Parliament (PF MPs) who are participating in the NCC have not committed any crime to seek for forgiveness from Party President Micheal Sata.

Speaking when she featured on the community radio station, Zambezi FM Radio station in Livingstone today, Mrs Sinyangwe said the MPs have not gotten themselves in conflict with anybody to seek for forgiveness.

Mrs Sinayangwe said the MPS have not formed a political party but have decided to take part in the constitution making process because they felt it was an important process that could not be boycotted.

She said though she was part of the NCC, she still had support from the people of Matero.

And Mrs Sinyangwe admitted that the constitution making process was not a cheap exercise.

”The constitution making process is not a cheap one. Even President Levy Mwanawasa said it but he bowed down because the opposition demanded for it,” she said.

Recently, Patriotic Front President Micheal Sata said he was ready to forgive MPs currently taking part in the NCC if they went back to him to ask for forgiveness.

Govt to Open Farming Blocks in all Provinces

47

Government has announced that out-grower farming schemes in farming blocks would be opened in all the nine provinces in the country in order to boost agriculture activities and enhance food security .

Agriculture and Co-operatives Deputy Minister Daniel Kalenga said government has since embarked on an exercise to put up infrastructure in the farming blocks such as good roads, electricity, water for irrigation which small scale, medium and large scale farmers can utilize to enhance crop production.

Mr. Kalenga said the agricultural sector which will further be promoted through crop diversification in the farming blocks has the ability to contribute to poverty reduction in the country.

The Deputy Minister announced this in Kanakatapa area in Chongwe district yesterday when he officiated at the 32nd Lusaka Provincial and Agricultural Show whose theme is Growth and Diversity through Credit and Finance.

He reiterated government’s committed to supplying subsidized agro inputs to ensuring that vulnerable but viable farmers are supported as they are key players in promoting food security at household, community and national levels.

Mr. Kalenga also disclosed that government has commenced a country-wide construction and rehabilitation of fish ponds .

He added government in collaboration with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has approved a K664 million for the transformation of Kaunga Rural Development Project based in Luangwa district into a Farmer Training Centre .

And speaking earlier, Lusaka Provincial and Agricultural Show Chairperson, Bernadette Simbwalanga appealed to government to revive the Lima and Co-operative banks where farmers could access soft loans through credit facilities.

Mrs. Simbwalanga further commended government for engaging the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in the purchase of agriculture produce.

She has however urged farmers in the country to strive to add value to their crops if they are to compete favourably on the international market.

Meanwhile, chief Mumena of the Kaonde people in Solwezi district has implored government to promote mechanized methods of farming among small scale farmers in Zambian in order to increase food production.

Chief Mumena observed that the current farming methods among many small scale and peasant farmers were not effective enough to address food shortages in the country.

The Chief said Zambian farmers needed to increase food production so as to cushion the negative impact of the looming hike in food prices.

He told ZANIS in an interview that government should therefore partner with traditional leaders in finding means of averting the looming food shortages in the world.

The traditional leader has since urged other chiefs to partner with government in rolling out modern means of food production.

He further called upon his subjects to keep enough food for their domestic consumption.

RSZ earmarks $US11million for investment

10

The Railways Systems of Zambia (RSZ) has this year earmarked US$ 11 million for investment in improving railway infrastructure in the country.

RSZ Deputy General Manger for corporate affairs, David Phiri said the money will be invested in the rehabilitation of old machinery, freight wagons, locomotives, purchasing of vehicles and replacement of concentrate rail slippers among others.

Mr. Phiri added that another US$ 1 million will be invested on Information communication technology) ICT) in a bid to improve the tracking system.

He said this in Kabwe today when Communication and Transport Minister, Dora Siliya toured RSZ and the Zambia Railways Limited (ZR).

Mr. Phiri said RSZ is working on modalities with its shareholders on how the institution can continue investing in railway infrastructure without being affected by the raising oil prices on the international market.

He however called on government to consider reducing duty on rail way equipment adding that the current duty had a negative impact on the company’s operations.

Meanwhile Ms Siliya has implored the managements’ of RSZ and ZR to develop a relationship and create an atmosphere of understanding between the two companies in order for them to effectively operate the railways system in the country.

Ms Siliya said she has learnt with great concern on how the two companies have continued to cause unnecessary tension on its operations and among the workers.

She said the two companies need to fully understand the concession and contract agreements and support each other in running and maintaining railway infrastructure which she described as deteriorating.

Ms Siliya stated that there was no need for railway infrastructure to continue been in a bad state when there are necessary authorities that can rehabilitate them.

She said most Zambians still prefer railway transport as the best mode of transport .

The Minister has since urged the two companies to strive to work hard and re-invest in infrastructure in order to bring back the glory of the railway systems in the country.

And Ms Siliya implored ZR to expeditiously deal with the scrap metal lying idle at its premises.
She said officials from her ministry and management of ZR must quickly come up with a decision whether to sell or auction the scrap metal before it is completely vandalized.

Earlier ZR Director of Finance, Regina Mwale asked government to consider allocating part of the concession fees from RSZ for re-investment in rail infrastructure.

Ms Mwale said since 2004, ZR has not received money from the concession fees which RSZ remits, which goes direct to the ministry of Finance.

She explained that the company which has a working staff of 26 , survives on revenue derived from the assets and properties which have been leased.

Don’t Listen to Politics of Division – Katele

170

Movement for Multi party Democracy (MMD) National secretary Dr Katele Kalumba has called on party members not listen to politics of division.

Dr. Katele said the country at this moments needs to concentrate on praying for President Levy Mwanawana’s quickly recovery so that he can come back and lead the nation and the party.

Dr. Kaumba stated that this was not the right time to talk about the succession when the party president is bed ridden in Percy’s Military Hospital in France.

Speaking when he addressed women that gathered at the secretariat this morning to pray for Dr. Mwanawasa, Dr Kalumba said the party spokesperson Ben Tetamashimba did not consult with the National Executive Committee (NEC) over his statement.

The National secretary remarks follows utterances attributed to the party spokesperson that the party should choose a successor to levy When the president comes back from France.

Dr Kalumba has further urged urged all Zambians to continue praying for the president’s quick recovery.

Meanwhile, Government has said it was slow in stating its position on Party Spokesperson Ben Tetamashimba so as to give him a chance to reflect on his statement.

Chief Government Spokesperson Mike Mulongoti said it was regrettable that Mr. Tetamamshimba wants to be seen as championing succession when the all whole nation has united in offering prayers for the quick recovery of the President.

He reminded Tetamashimba that he was on record of having said President Mwanawasa should continue heading the Party until 2011 but wondered why he is now championing the succession issue.

Mr. Mulongoti who is also Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services was speaking at the Press briefing held at his Kabulonga residence in Lusaka today.

Mr. Mulongoti, who was flanked by his Deputy David Phiri, advised Mr. Tetamashimba not to be arrogant but instead show Leadership and humility towards the illness of the President rather causing anguish to the first family over his statement.

Mr. Mulongoti further said Tetamashimba being a NEC member and a junior minister failed to consult his colleagues in NEC before issuing the statement which he describe as embarrassing to the government.

‘it was further surprising that he wants to be seen speaking authoritatively on the Party presidency when in fact it was his opinion and doesn’t reflect the Party position,’ he added..

The MMD constitution clearly stipulate on how and when elections from the lower organs of the party are held that eventually culminate into a Party convention.

He added that as much as government respects freedom of expression, it will be wrong for anyone to say anything on the condition of the President rather than that of the medical team in France that is treating him.

The Minister said that has advised the general public to ignore MMD spokesperson Benny Tetamashimba’s statement over the succession of President Levy Mwanawasa.

And responding to questions from the Press on the statement in the foreign media attributed to Zimbabwean President Mugabe that he doesn’t like Dr. Mwanawasa, Mr. Mulongoti said he has asked the Minister of Foreign Minister to issue an appropriate statement.

Mr. Mulongoti has also assured investors not to panic over their investment in the country as there is political stability.

Mr. Tetamashimba has been roundly condemned following the statement he made for the party to start considering a successor to President Mwanawasa, when he returns home.
