Zambia’s Ambassador to China, Lupando Mwape has asked Chinese investors to establish manufacturing firms in Zambia and help alleviate unemployment.
Mr. Mwape said Chinese business people can do well to form manufacturing plants in order to add value to business transaction between the two countries.
Mr. Mwape was speaking at a luncheon hosted for him and his delegation by Shanghai Web Off-Set Printing Company, which deals in making newspaper printing machines.
This was after the Zambian delegation, which included Information and Broadcasting Permanent Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Nyirenda, was taken on a conducted tour of the assembly line.
Mr. Mwape said Zambia was endowed with abundant raw material for use in manufacturing various products.
“It is for this reason that I call upon Chinese business houses to establish manufacturing plants in Zambia which is strategically located and conducive for exports to neighbouring countries,” he said.
The Zambian team also included Zambia News and Information Services Acting Director, Augustine Phiri, Times of Zambia Managing Editor, Mr Arnold Kapelembi and counterpart at the Zambia Daily Mail, Mr Leonard Kantumoya.
The team is in China to look at the various machines for newspaper printing and attended an exhibition of printing machines in Shanghai, China’s second largest city with a population of about 18 million people.
The Times of Zambia and the Zambia Daily mail currently use old machines acquired before independence in 1964, which not only break down constantly, but also inhibits printing of newspapers in multi colours.
