WEEKEND SCORECARD: Kamanga address Nigeria offside appeal

54

New Football Association of Zambia president Andrew Kamanga
New Football Association of Zambia president Andrew Kamanga
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has stated that they have thoroughly studied all avenues of appeal over the disallowed goal against Nigeria.

Augustine Mulenga had his first half goal disallowed by Botswana referee Joshua Bondo before Alex Iwobi struck in the 73rd minute to hand Nigeria a 1-0 win and extinguished Zambia’s2018 World Cup dreams.

Kamanaga said his executive has consulted extensively but Article 15.6 of the FIFA rules clearly states that the referees’ decision is final.

“But the rules being what they are you cannot overturn the decision of the referee,” Kamanga said.

“The only basis is when there was external influence.

“So the referee maybe carpeted for making a wrong decision but the decision still stands and unfortunately that is where we stand.”

Kamanga said FAZ hopes CAF and FIFA will accelerate the implementation of the Video Assistant Referee that was used to relative success at the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup in South Korea.

President Edgar Lungu greets Vice President Inonge Wina shortly before departure to Botswana whilst Zambia Army Commander Paul Mihova (2nr) Deputy Zambia Air Force commander David Muma (r) at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport

President Edgar Lungu is tomorrow expected in Lundazi District, Eastern Province, where he will commission the first ever commercial wheat harvest project by the Zambia National Service (ZNS).

Eastern Province permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says President Lungu will commission the harvest from a 240 acre irrigation farm at Ng’onga ZNS camp in Lumezi constituency.

ZANIS reports that Mr Kasolo said this in an interview at his office today that the irrigation farm is expected to record a total harvest of 240 metric tonnes of wheat.

The defense wing is the first to grow wheat on a commercial basis in the province.

The wheat will be grinded by the ZNS grinders that will be station in all the ten provinces to produce flour locally.

Mr Kasolo said the Head of State is scheduled to arrive at Mfuwe international airport before proceeding to Lumezi where he will inspect the wheat farm and eventually commission the harvest.

He stated that president Lungu will later meet traditional leaders at Tigone motel before meeting party officials.

On Wednesday, President Lungu will also visit Lundazi market and fly to Mambwe district where he will commission the newly constructed maternity annex at Kamoto Mission Hospital.

The Head of State is expected to return to Lusaka from Mfuwe international airport on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.

Veep commends Chief Chikanta’s efforts in reducing child marriages in his chiefdom

Vice- President Inonge  Wina is received by nine year old girl Tionenji  Mbewe (r) at Kabompo airstrip before she commissioned the North-Western province to the national electricity grid in Kabompo recently
VICE President Inonge Wina says government is pleased with Chief Chikanta’s efforts in reducing child marriages in his chiefdom.

Ms Wina says the efforts by Chief Chikanta in curbing child marriages and gender based violence (GBV) in the area will further consolidate government’s efforts in various social-economic programs aimed at reducing poverty in the country.

“Ending child marriages reduces exposure of girls to violence and abuse, health risks such as death during child birth, keeps girls in school and allows them to be active members of society thereby breaking the cycle of poverty.” she said.

The vice president said this in a speech read for her by southern Province minister Dr. Edify Hamukale at the Chuungu traditional ceremony of the Tonga people of Chikanta chiefdom in Kalomo yesterday.

She further commended the Zambia Centre for Communication Programs (ZCCP/KWATU) for partnering with traditional leaders to end child marriages.

Meanwhile ZCCP/KWATU Chief of party, Helen Lungu said the organization has trained and supported chiefs to create Gender Based Violence (GBV) secretariats in their chiefdoms.

Ms Lungu said the secretariats which have been equipped with computers to help chiefs document data will serve as reference points for G.B.V victims.

She further called for continued partnership with government in supporting the chiefs with resources to enable them fight G.B.V and child marriages. “It is our hope that government will continue to hear the plight of our chiefs as they ask for resources to end child marriages and G.B.V.” Ms Lungu said.

And chief Madzimawe of the Ngoni people in Chipata said the fight against G.B.V, child marriages, H.I.V/AIDS and poverty can only be won if the economic well-being of people is improved.

“Our coming here is to learn how our brother (Chief Chikanta) is working with the private sector to develop his chiefdom instead of depending on government alone, “ said Chief Madzimawe during the event..

Government responds to HH’s IBA allegations

MINISTER of Information and Broadcasting Services Kampamba Mulenga
MINISTER of Information and Broadcasting Services Kampamba Mulenga

Republic of Zambia
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services

STATEMENT BY HON. KAMPAMBA MULENGA, MP MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING SERVICES AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON ON ALLEGATIONS OF INTIMIDATION OF THE MEDIA BY UPND LEADER HAKAINDE HICHILEMA

Government finds misplaced sentiments by UPND leader Mr. Hakainde Hichilema that it is using the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) to perpetuate intimidation and corruption.

Government is further alarmed that a person seeking to be a Republican President could publicly make insidious comments on a letter that is not addressed to him but leaked to him.

Mr. Hichilema ought to be reminded that the IBA was created by the Zambian people through an Act of Parliament with specific objectives, one of which is to ensure that the electronic media adheres to their licence rules.

If Prime TV have been asked to appear before the regulatory body, an action that is not illegal, why should politicians start meddling in the matter even before the outcome of the meeting is known.

It is unfortunate that Mr. Hichilema is interfering in the work of an independent body created by the people of Zambia. It is hypocritical that Mr Hichilema is accusing Government of muzzling the media when, to the contrary, he is the one clearly interfering in the work of the IBA.

It is also important that Mr Hichilema takes time to read the IBA Act so that he acquaints himself with the regulatory body’s mandate.

All players in the broadcasting sector, including Prime Television, know the rules and regulations that guide their operations and they are expected to abide by them.

Government expects the IBA to continue doing its job professionally as always and not to be intimidated by unjustified sentiments.

The scheduled radio appearance by UPND President Hakainde Hichilema on Radio Christian Voice on Monday morning failed to take off after the radio station cancelled the programme at the eleventh hour.

Police in manhunt for attackers on Ng’onga’s mothers home

10

Police have confirmed launching investigations into the matter where the family home belonging to Chipolopolo and Power Dynamos striker Alex Ng’onga was attacked by thugs on Saturday night.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said a case of malicious damage to property was reported to Chimwemwe Police Post by Ng’onga’s mother Charity Sakanya on Saturday night.

Katanga said unknown people in a white Toyota land cruiser threw stones at the house and insulted her because her son failed to score as Zambia lost 1-0 to Nigeria on Saturday.

“A case of malicious damage to property was reported to Chimwemwe Police Post by Madam Charity Sakanya mother to Mr Alex Ngonga a national team player where unknown people in a white Toyota land cruiser threw stones at her house and insulted her because her son failed to score for the national team,” Katanga said.

“The incident was reported at around 19:45 hours. The value of the two damaged roofing sheets is yet to be established but investigations have been launched and no arrests have been made so far,” she said.

And Ng’onga’s mother Charity has told journalists that she is living in fear after the incident.

She said she feared for her life when she heard that another person was threatening to destroy the house completely.
