He commended KCM for showing strong commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and understanding the mood of the nation.

“His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has on several occasions demonstrated that through sport, our nation can be reunited and this again is evidenced by the manner in which the performance of the Under 20 national team has reenergised the nation,” Hon. Lusambo said.

He added, “It is very encouraging to see companies operating in this country responding to our call and KCM has wasted no time in donating the 20,000 tickets.”

Hon. Lusambo revealed that other corporate institutions such as Zambezi Portland Cement and several others have also responded by donating tickets for the matches.

“We still want more companies to come through and be part of the history. They can contact the Provincial Administration and make their donations. Football is our country’s number one sport and brings so much joy. Our target remains to have very good seats in the stadium taken up,” Hon. Lusambo said.

The open wing tickets will be distributed through specially mounted booths near the entrance on a first come-first serve basis.

It’s A Shame Black Footballers Still Cry When Racially Abused!

Shortly before the end, the match was briefly interrupted when Rad supporters also waved a banner with an insulting message against the Brazilian. / AFP / STR (Photo credit should read STR/AFP/Getty Images)

Racism in football may tarry a few more years, so let’s not kid ourselves we can do much right now to arrest it.
Deep questions like “Why are there a few black club managers?” and “Why do we have a scanty number of black/African goalkeepers thriving in Europe?” are often asked, but I’m really not privileged with answers.

Racism travels far across Europe. Countries like Italy, Spain and a few others within South America have been major culprits.
Football in England, also isn’t as squeaky-clean as it appears to be. Although it’s stale news at this time, how a former England manager Graham Taylor was reportedly asked by the English FA to reduce the number of black players in the English national team, but that remains a huge racial indictment of English football!

Black players have grown remarkably, into pretty objects of mockery on the pitch, as obsessed racist fans can’t seem to have enough of them. These racist fans imitate monkey sounds or throw banana peels into the pitch, often when a black footballer of an opposing side handles the ball. I really can imagine how that drives a black player nuts!
But regardless, instances of black players crying off the pitch or feeling extremely dejected during moments of racial abuse, quickens a large amount of discomfort in me!

Most recently, Everton Ruiz a black Brazilian footballer, wept uncontrollably in the possibly tender arms of his goalkeeper, after racial noises were directed at him. While I sincerely sympathize with Ruiz for suffering such insane humiliation, I strongly criticize his reaction!

Soaking your jersey in tears, or reacting in such a way that portrays you as emotionally broken or dejected, makes you reek of inferiority, low self-esteem, discontentment with your skin color and a desperate appeal to be accepted. You simply empower those racists with leverage to hurt black players some more!

Famous black footballer Mario Balotelli, had a torrid time during his stint at AC Milan. Part of which were the humiliating monkey chants he endured from the racist fans of his former side Inter Milan, during a game involving both soccer clubs. Given the wild emotional nature of Mario (which many believe, smeared his rise to lofty heights), one would expect him to quit the game, or protest in tears like most black footballers would.

Mario

But he kept his composure fully drenched in confidence and pride in his skin color, before placing a commandeering finger on his lips to signal the racist fans to keep quiet!
That seemed pretty much to me, a better way of handling racial provocations (until better ways are discovered!).

Sometime in 2014, former Barcelona player Dani Alves was targeted by Villarreal fans, who threw a banana at him. Alves picked up the banana, peeled it, took a bite and continued his game! That sure sent a strong message to the racial offenders, projecting his unique confidence and mature mental strength!

Black footballers have got to outgrow their cravings for sympathy and accord their skin color a lot more value and respect, especially in the face of racial abuse! Your skin color is black and you owe no apology for that. If some immature racists cannot comprehend that, and choose to throw scornful remarks at you, ignore the losers and carry on with your game.

Consistent ignoring of racial stunts from ‘loser-racists’, will kill whatever excitement they derive from racial abuse and eventually make the evil practice boring!

I PLEDGE to contribute K10, 000 monthly for a year to Zambia Institution of Special Education (ZAMISE) for its operational costs, First Lady Esther Lungu has said.

Mrs Lungu, however, said culturally there were a lot of myths surrounding the differently-abled that excluded them from participating in developmental issues.

She said parents often faced stigmatisation by society and were ashamed to allow their children to go to school which had caused children with disabilities to be completely excluded from enjoying social amenities that the able-bodied children enjoyed.

The First Lady said at Zambia Institute of Special Education (ZAMISE) in Lusaka yesterday when she flagged off the International Women’s week for the commemoration which falls on 8th March.

“The differently-abled children are, therefore, denied opportunity to fulfil their aspiration and potential. I have been informed that this is the only college in the country dealing with specialised education.

“I am aware that the college faces a number of challenges in its operations. I have since pledged to be contributing K10, 000 every month until next year,” said Mrs Lungu.

Mrs Lungu said the situation was disheartening as the children who were differently-abled needed to continue receiving education from teacher who were well qualified.

She said this would go a long way in helping the parents and communities to bring out the children whom they were hiding knowing that there were facilities to enable them achieve their dreams in life.

“I was happy when I heard that the children being used for teaching practice are those from vulnerable homes around Lusaka. This will show communities that all those negative myths they have heard about the disabled children are not true,” she said.

And ZAMISE Principal Fredrick Chishimba said the college had permanent teachers but that paying them their monthly salaries was a great challenge due to financial constraints.

Kamanga cries out to CAF, wants Kalu bars from watching Under 20 AFCON

FAZ President, Andrew Kamanga has officially written to CAF over Kalusha Bwalya’s presence at the U20 tournament.

Kamanga says Bwalya’s presence at the tournament has led to non football behavior by his cadres whom he says have teamed up to impeach him on zero grounds.

In a letter to CAF President, Issa Hayatou, Kamanga says it must be noted that him and Bwalya have a frosty relationship which is detrimental to the running of football in Zambia.

He has however urged Bwalya to remind himself and his supporters that he is in charge FAZ and his mandate ends in 2020.

Prior to the official opening of the junior national football tournament, Kamanga warned Dr. Hayatou and CAF to remove Bwalya from his delegation.

Bwalya is an executive member of the African football governing body.

Government ‘s intention to gazette 1700 schools hailed

The labour movement in Northern Province has applauded government for its intention to embark on the process of gazetting 1700 schools countrywide.

Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) Regional Director in Charge of administration Musonda Mushikanimbo made the commendation in an interview with ZANIS in Kasama today.

The step taken by government to gazette the schools across the country will mean that more payroll vacancies and positions will be created for teachers who are in need of promotions and placement, Mr. Mushikanimbo said.

He said a number of teachers in Northern Province have upgraded their professional qualifications but have not been promoted because they are serving in schools which are not gazetted.

In addition to the existing schools Northern Province has , government will gazette a total of 116 schools which have been upgraded to secondary level.

He said the move will be a motivation to teachers and will increase their morale to even work harder to sustain the good performance the province has recorded in the past examinations.

The BETUZ regional director has also commended government for announcing to recruit 2,600 more teachers this year.

Mr. Mushikanimbo said the move will increase staffing and reduce the daunting pupil/teacher ratio in various schools.

He said although the demand is still quite high, the planned recruitment this year by government will go a long way in alleviating the problem of understaffing.

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has said that the decisions of the associations are made collectively by the Council of LAZ on behalf of the Association and not by the LAZ President in her personal capacity.

In a statement released to the media, the council said that it was deeply saddened by the protests against LAZ at the LAZ Secretariat by unknown cadres this afternoon.

Below is the full statement

LAZ PRESS STATEMENT DATED 3RD MARCH 2017 ON THE ATTACK ON THE LAW ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA AND THE INDEPENDENCE OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) is deeply saddened by the protests against LAZ at the LAZ Secretariat by unknown cadres this afternoon. The attack appears to be an attempt to intimidate LAZ from performing its statutory mandate. Fortunately, no property was damaged and no one was injured and we applaud the Zambia Police for their quick intervention to secure the safety of our members of staff.

Whilst LAZ would like to thank the police for swiftly coming to our aid, we hope that the matter will be thoroughly investigated to determine whether this was a legal demonstration. Whilst LAZ celebrates the right to freedom of expression and association and the right to peaceful demonstrations by all Zambians, that right should not infringe upon the right by LAZ to exercise its mandate freely in line with the tenets of democracy.

LAZ has noted that personal attacks have been made against the LAZ President during the protests. It must be noted that decisions of the Association are made collectively by the Council of LAZ on behalf of the Association and not by the LAZ President in her personal capacity. LAZ hopes that all well-meaning Zambians will stand in solidarity with LAZ as we seek to uphold the rule of law, constitutionalism, good governance and social justice in the country as mandated by section four of the Law Association of Zambia Act. LAZ would like to reiterate that it will continue to stand firm in executing its statutory mandate in an independent manner without fear or favour.
