President Edgar Lungu has castigated news outlets for allegedly attacking him warning that they risk losing readership.
In an apparent attack on the Post Newspapers, President Lungu said it is unprofessional for some newspapers to continue attacking him every day for the last three months.
He warned that such newspapers will further lose readership which he said has dwindled in the recent past.
President who spoke mostly in Nyanja was addressing a mammoth rally at Chawama grounds to drum up support for PF Chawama constituency by election candidate Lawrence Sichalwe.
‘Mwaibwelamo fimo, otherwise balimisula akale, balamisulillako, mwalapwafye nama sales yalachita drop (You should restrain yourselves sometimes otherwise you will be discredited, you are already discredited but you will be more discredited and your sales will drop,’ President Lungu said.
He added, ‘You will have no readership, what kind of a newspaper talks about one person for three months? ukomailapofye, three months Edgar Lungu, Chagwa Chagwa, Chagwa, Chawa, lekani nimuuze uyumutu ngasanzela, one day nizaka kugwila! You keep stressing the same thing for three months, Edgar Lungu, Chagwa Chagwa Chagwa, let me warm this person if he doesn’t listen, one day i will arrest you!’
At the same rally, President Lungu directed the Road Development Agency to award some contracts under the L400 to local contractors.
He said the pace at which the L400 road project is progressing is slow and worrying hence the need to speed up works.
President Lungu said the L400 road project is one which late President Michael Sata wanted executed diligently.
He said the PF government is committed to completing 400 kilometres of township roads which was launched in Chawama in 2013.
President Lungu urged all contractors working on the project to speed up the works so that people can see the project come to completion.
He said local participation in road projects is important as a way of empowering local contractors.
At the same rally, UPND member of the National Management Committee Paul Moonga rejoined the PF declaring that President Lungu is a better candidate that Hakainde Hichilema
He said he comes from the same village as Mr Hichilema but that after reflection and introspection, he has come to see that President Lungu has humility and a sense of unity for Zambia.

The Zambia Under-23 on Sunday missed out on qualifying for this year’s All-Africa Games after succumbing to a 2-1 home loss at the hands of Nigeria in the return leg of the final round played at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Nigeria have since qualified to the All Africa Games men’s under-23 football competition.
Fighton Simukonda’s side allowed a goal in each half to lose 2-1 which was also the aggregate score-line as the first leg match in Abuja finished goalless on 22 March.
Nigeria took a 1-0 lead into the half time break when forward Taiwo Awoniyi beating keeper Toaster Nsabata from close range following a mix up in the Zambia defence.
Taiwo completed a his brace in the 86th minute after beating a poorly erected offside trap just ten minutes after Zambia had equalised through Friday Samu.
Earlier in the game, the Junior Chipolopolo had missed several chances through star striker Ronald Kampamba in both halves.
Kampamba had difficulties in converting clear cut chances Zambia created especially in the second half.
At half time the Zambian side was booed by fans who were seemingly not happy with the team’s uninspiring display in the first 45 minutes.
Commercial Sex Workers working with THASINTA in Mkushi and Luano Districts are shunning skills related jobs in preference to the sex industry.
The sex workers are said to be showing no desire to abandon their sex trade saying it gives them quick money to sustain their welfare as opposed to skills such as tailoring which take long for them to earn money.
THASINTA Coordinator for Mkushi and Luano Districts Agness Ng’andu disclosed the development to ZANIS in an interview in Mkushi District.
Mrs Nkandu said her organisation has in the last 12 months encountered setbacks in its efforts to facilitate and provide alternative livelihood to Sex Workers.
She charged that the development if left unchecked and resolved will affect the reform programme and jeopardise efforts made in combating HIV and AIDS.
Mrs Ng’andu explained that her organisation had invested heavily in procuring several sewing machines which are presently not being utilised.
THASINTA has been working with a group of 38 sex workers in the two districts to reform them and engage them in alternative decent sources of income generation.
Mrs Ng’andu said the sex workers justified their return to their trade claiming that the industry is lucrative and a money spinner.
She however, expressed optimism that the sex workers will return to the programme and help add impetus to combating HIV and AIDS.
Mrs Ng’andu has since called for concerted and extensive efforts of sensitizing sex workers to abandon the industry and reduce the threat and spread of HIV and AIDS in communities.

Vice president Inonge Wina says society needs to appreciate the indispensable role that women play.
Ms Wina said there is no mystery in women seeking equal opportunities and wanting to be part of the decision making process at all levels of human endeavour.
The Vice president said this last night in a speech read for her by Lands deputy minister Susan Kawandami at the Zambian Women of the year Awards aimed at awarding exemplary and unsung heroines.
Ms Wina observed that almost all women in Zambia are multi-tasking and as such their efforts should be recognised and appreciated.
She said events like the women awards should aim at taking a different view in a woman’s life and begin to focus on women’s positives and achievements and not negatives.
‘A woman who wakes up at 3am every morning and walks 15km to buy vegetables to sell so that her children can have an education and food on the table should be appreciated’ said Ms Wina.
The Vice President stressed that government has since placed gender equality high on its development agenda.
And Director for Gender Rights Protection at Ministry of Gender and Child Development Pumulo Mutale noted that gender inequalities are still very high in Zambia.
Ms Pumulo added that government is aware of the disparities and recognises the significance of the need for equal participation of both men and women in the development process of the country.
And Zambian Women Awards of the year organising committee Chairperson Chilufya Phiri said women should be celebrated every day.

Government has completed renovating the Kenneth Kaunda (KK) detention house in Kabompo District in North-western province at a cost of K70, 000.
Acting Kabompo District Commissioner Hendrix Solochi said the funds were released by government through the National Heritage and Conservation Commission (NHCC).
Mr Solochi said only water and electricity are yet to be connected to the house adding that applications to relevant utilities to have power and water connected have already been made.
And North-Western Province minister Dawson Kafwaya who inspected the house expressed happiness with the quality of works on the renovated KK house.
Mr Kafwaya said the house is an important historical site because it is where Zambia’s first President was detained by the colonial administration.
He said the site has potential to attract tourists if well marketed and appealed to the media to help publicize the KK detention house in Kabompo to the outside world.
Dr Kenneth Kaunda was detained in the Kabompo house by the colonial government from March to July 1959 during the liberation struggle.

President Edgar Lungu says he is disappointed that campaigns for the Masaiti parliamentary by election have become tribal.
President Lungu said it is disappointing that some people are de campaigning PF candidate Michael Katambo on grounds that he is not originally from Masaiti.
Speaking at Masaiti Boma during a public rally to drum up support for Katambo, Mr Lungu said tribal campaigns should not be entertained.
ZANIS reports that the Head of State said there is need to foster unity in the country by promoting the spirit of “One Zambia One Nation.”
President Lungu said the country should unite because no single tribe can elect a government into power because Zambia is bigger that any single tribe.
He said he knows the people behind the tribal campaigns but would not mention them because everyone knew who they were.
President Lungu has since asked the people of Masaiti to vote for Katamba because he is the right person who can work with government to develop Masaiti.
He pointed out that voting for the PF candidate will contribute to the development of the country because PF stands for development.
And during the rally former MMD Copperbelt Task Force chairman Joe Malanji defected to the PF.

The Nordic countries have pledged to lobby their businesses so that they can increase investments into Africa. The undertaking was made at the closure of the 14th Africa-Nordic Foreign Ministers meeting on Friday. The meeting ran from 9 – 10th April, 2015.
This is according to a statement released by Nicky Shabolyo, press secretary at the Zambian High Commission in South Africa.

Ms. Wallstrom, however, observed that it should be realised that economic cooperation has to be based on values that were respected by both regions. She pointed out that there were companies from Nordic countries that have had investments in Africa for a long time and still wanted to stay for as long as good governance was upheld.

(Galatians 6:7, NLT)
TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria
Have you ever looked at a large, old tree and wondered how long it has been there? It’s amazing to think that at one point that gigantic tree was merely a tiny
In the same way, our words and actions are seeds. Our words may be small, but they grow when they are planted. We will always reap a harvest on what we sow!
Think about the types of seeds you have been sowing. Are you sowing encouragement, hope, blessing, love? Then that’s what you’ll reap in the future.
But if you’ve been sowing criticism, judgment and anger, you’re probably already reaping a bad harvest. It’s time to start changing your seed.
Today, I encourage you to pray and ask God to help you uproot any negative seeds you may have planted in the past and begin sowing good seeds for your future.
As you stay obedient to the Word of God, you’ll see those seeds grow. You’ll rise up higher and enjoy the harvest of blessing God has promised you.
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, search my heart today. Show me any bad seeds that need to be uprooted. Help me, by Your Spirit, to plant good seeds for my future. Use me for Your glory in Jesus’ name. Amen. — Joel & Victoria Osteen
